"You speak of fighting for your ally? All I have seen you do is strut across this walkway, utter your pretty words and make your veiled threats! And they call me a tyrant! I know what I am, what I stand for, and what I am willing to do to survive!"

Pointing towards the bleeding Hollander, "I have no power over life, I can tend not to his wounds, only ensure that I continue on. As such is duty of the strong!"

Btw.. Cirnos's last post was more towards an open audience than just Gaza

Male Oread Ranger 2 HP 9/23 AC: 16 F: +4 R: +5 W: +2 Per: +7 Init:+4

Quain moves back to the safety of the stones to J-11. ”Come on Menas, you can make it."

These people to act:
Emilian
Varos
Menas
Haterivet

Male Azlant Wizard (Universalist) 20

Varos will move forward to get on the stones with Haterivet. Once there, he will take a look at people who are still standing and moves forward my intentions so far

Varos and Haterivet, I need to know your path of squares you take, as Cirnos is kind of in the way and he has a weapon in his hands so you could draw an AoO from him if you move through his threatened squares.

Menas stoops and takes the cestus from Orthriks arm, he then turns and moves towards the stones, his rage dissapating. Upon reaching the stones he collapses in fatigue. "I need some healing...", looking up slightly, "Thanks, all of you."

pick up the cestus, move 30ft to M,-9. 3 rounds of rage left, HP0/15, fatigued for 6 rounds.

re-editted for correct movement. the circle effect is a bit confusing, i was kinda guessing where the edge was myself.

Can't reach safety if you reach for the cestus, Menas. L-4 is difficult terrain.

AC 20, touch 11, flat-footed 19; Fort +5, Ref +1, Will +2; Max HP: 14, Current HP: 14

"Of course," Emilian replies. He retrieves the sling and stones, keeping a wary eye out for any who would press their advantage.

I had him move towards the dirt in round 2, waiting for Quain's response. If this is Round 3, he should have no problem picking up the sling and stones this round from his spot in I-9.

Kor moves forward to read the plaque.

Menas Kriger wrote:
i don't mind moving there slower DM, but i thought spell area effects were squared off though so some of the squares are not covered?

You are correct, thanks. First time I am using the circle spell area effects and they do cover more area than the spell templates. You reach safety with your cestus, fatigued, and 0 hps.

Kwin will continue to double move until he's around the corner, heading north.

Per: +4 Init:+8 HP -4/11 AC: 14/14/10 F: +3 R: +6 W: +0

I'll go ahead and roll the stabilization checks (not that it matters) for the subsequent rounds:
1d20 - 4 ⇒ (3) - 4 = -1 DC 10
1d20 - 5 ⇒ (7) - 5 = 2 DC 10
1d20 - 6 ⇒ (1) - 6 = -5 DC 10
1d20 - 7 ⇒ (16) - 7 = 9 DC 10
1d20 - 8 ⇒ (18) - 8 = 10 DC 10
1d20 - 9 ⇒ (18) - 9 = 9 DC 10
1d20 - 10 ⇒ (3) - 10 = -7 DC 10

Woohoo! In 5 rounds I get to stabilize at -9, looks like.

Varos and Haterivet, Cirnos graciously lets you pass and everyone reaches safe ground eventually. We will go out of initiative but will note the various head starts that the players out in front have over the rest of you.

As you continue forth, you hear a voice address the crowd, "Well, ladies and gentlemen, 13/16 prisoners have made it to safe ground and are making their way to the First Trial. A second of silence for Hollander, Salu, and Orthrik, criminals who gave their lives valiantly for your pleasure. Now, how do we see the odds going forth? I see Quain is a popular pick for the bettors after his one-shot brutal take down of the cannibalistic human forest dweller! Menas has shown true grit defying the odds, but without healing, the bettors are jumping off his sinking ship. Will the Stormlord's waste of an Entangle spell that had no real effect come back to haunt him? With whom will Gaza side: Justified or Cirnos? Will she leave Team Goblin? Will the loners, Catelyn and Kor, survive without alliances? All this is left to be seen and more! Place your bets!"

Loud cheers erupt from the crowd and the voice fades away!

Female Tiefling Rogue (Sniper)

Catelyn follows closely behind Kor, moving toward the plaque.

"Let's see what this is all about, then." Glancing about as the voices thunder overhead, she bows her head and places her face in her palm. "Bloody idiots."

Kazmuk moves up to the plaque, although he will wait for Cirnos if it looks like the antipaladin has the same idea.

None of us has any, save Gaza if she wills. Let's move towards the first trial, she'll catch up and help if she wants.

Moving towards the corner and the first trial as quickly as possible.

Male Human(Ulfen) Barbarian/2 Per:+6 Init:+3 HP19/26(30/30) AC: 20/12/18 F:+7(+9) R:+4(+6) W:+2(+4)

I'll continue to hold out hope that Gaza will toss me a heal but in the mean time i'll stagger onwards stubbornly

Hearing the voice taunting him to action Menas with brute determination pushes himself from the floor and staggers to his feet, "Sinking ship?!" he shouts, then wheezing "Ouch, I should not have done that. Your right Quain, lets move."

He begins to shuffle slowly in the direction of the others. only single moves taking no actions to strain his already fragile state, it will take him a while to get round the corner and due to his wounds he will be quiet while he limps around.

The corridor ends at the Plaque. Kor moves up and reads it:

TRIAL #1
"In honor of Sarenith, the sixth month of the year, I give you the Test of Fire!"

Catelyn, who is following behind, then sees Kor disappear.

Female Tiefling Rogue (Sniper)

Catelyn grits her teeth as she moves up to the plaque, and reads it to herself, saying meanwhile, "Best hope this portal does not lead into some sort of lava pit. That'd be just unfortunate."

If/when Cirnos approaches, Kazmuk whispers:

Cirnos:
"Down to the two of us. Think ye we should ally with anybody else? I could heal that wounded one called Menas. He fought fiercely, might be useful. Looks like he might bring another with him." Kazmuk nods at Quain.

Stealth check to conceal the conversation from any eavesdroppers: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18

Male Azlant Wizard (Universalist) 20

Varos looks at the people as they disappear behind the corner and decide to move forward and see what is up ahead

Catelyn and Kor both appear in a 15' corridor, heading west and are overwhelmed by the heat that washes over you. Three flame jets shoot magically from the wall in the room ahead burning everything from the floor to the ceiling in their narrow path. You also notice that there is 5' wide area that the flames do not touch and appear safe (rows 3 and 6). Finally, you note that sometimes all 3 jets shoot out, sometimes 2, sometimes 1, all in random order. If you are agile enough, you may be able to avoid the jets...maybe. Be careful, they are hot! Remember all saves are in your hands.

Map of Room

This is your trial. Good luck. You may post questions here or PM me. Up to you. Right now, Kor and Catelyn have a 1 round head start on Bug, a 2 round head start on everyone except Menas, on whom they have a 6 round head start.

Female Tiefling Rogue (Sniper)

"Though this is unfortunate too I suppose" Catelyn looks at the spears of dancing flame, trying to analyze the pattern. So it is completely random, right? "There is no pattern, damnit! The only way through is to dodge the flames. Best make sure before we plunge forth into the firey hellstorm there aren't any hidden surprises."

You should speak to this Menas and try your hand, give not freely; you can not squander what power you have. If it turns dour...Mayhaps the priestess will join our number, with her companions we could form a FEARSOME FIVE!"

Catelyn:
"So, loners they call us. Perhaps it would be best not to walk alone. Would you care to join paths, fellow loner, that we may better travel?"

Kor walks up to the square just before the flames as he speaks.

Female Tiefling Rogue (Sniper)

Kor:
"They call me a loner for a reason, half-orc, but I'll take your offer, if only to survive these bloody flame cannons and the group of murderers and fiends at our backs."

Catelyn walks up behind Kor, staring intently at the flames.

When he arrives in the room, Quain uses his knowledge of traps or his perception enhanced by his night vision to try to puzzle another solution than running through the flames.

Hobbling along at the back Menas spends some time muttering to himself as he slowly makes his way to the corner.

I've sent you a PM DM

Before heading to the plaque, Kazmuk walks to Menas.

Menas:

"Looking fer some healin'? Yer a fierce fighter, no doubt. I could help ye, if ye make it worth me while. Ye seem to be friendly with that Quain fellow. Perhaps ye two would like ta join me and the big guy with the lance? Got anybody else ye could bring in? No more than five total, ye know, or we'd end up at each other's throats."

As you look at the jets, they shoot for 1-2 seconds, then pause 1-2 seconds, then again. During that 1-2 second window is where you could try to run through if you dared (i.e. save). There is no mechanical apparatus, they appear to be magically created. Nobody has noticed anything strange about the room.

Quain:
It does not appear to be an illusion and there is no signal when the jets will fire.

By now, most of the prisoners have read the plaque and are in the room, except for Menas, Kazmuk, and Varos and Haterivet and perhaps Gaza. But no one has dared cross yet.

Male Human(Ulfen) Barbarian/2 Per:+6 Init:+3 HP19/26(30/30) AC: 20/12/18 F:+7(+9) R:+4(+6) W:+2(+4)

As Kazmuk approaches Menas appears to be finishing a conversation with himself, "..well, onwards i march."

Kazmuk:
"Healing is exactly what I am looking for right now, and if you want to help me I would be in your debt. However i cannot speak for Quain, our pact is defense not friendship." Menas groans from so much activity, "I will join the two of you in return for healing, you have my word, but I will not act against any of the three fighters who supported me in there. They have earned my respect if not my complete trust, we can approach the survivors after the first few trials to see if they will join with us. Then there may be less than five of us all together."

you caught me answering a pm, now i am off to bed!

Male Azlant Wizard (Universalist) 20

Off to sleep

As he reaches plaque and others disappear from his sight, Varos takes a deep breath and go forward.

Upon seeing his first Trial he carefully looks at the flames and their patterns, unable to determine anything out of normal.

Female Tiefling Rogue (Sniper)

"Only a fool waits to die." As she says that, Catelyn counts the seconds in her mind, waiting for the first flame to stop erupting. As it extinguishes itself Catelyn throws herself forward with all the guile she can muster.

GM:
I suppose that'll be a reflex save? I'll just do all 3 to be sure. I get a +2 because of Tiefling racial traits. Reflex: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 5 + 2 = 26 Will: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 + 2 = 12 Fortitude: 1d20 + 0 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 0 + 2 = 13

You safely pass the first jet of flame. It's Reflex and I need 2 more.

I must me a fool fer doing this, but I saw them fight. I cannot stand against them without some help. Kazmuk sighs and casts his only healing spell on Menas.

Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

After healing the hulking human, Kazmuk hurries to the plaque, eager to not fall too far behind.

Female Tiefling Rogue (Sniper)

Waiting for the second and third fires to die out in turn, she leaps through them both.

Reflex: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 2 = 12

Reflex: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 5 + 2 = 14

Upon entering the room, Kazmuk groans at the sight of the fire jets. Och, what have I gotten myself into? Noting the others ahead of him, he moves as far away from the origin of the fire jets and darts forward, hoping to get past the first flame.

Reflex save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

Catelyn mistimes the second jump and screams in agony, as she catches the blast of fire to her shoulder, burning her badly. Then as best as you can see between the flame jets with her back turned to you, she then seemingly pulls something out of her waistline and then turns to mist right before your very eyes and safely passes to the other side, turning back to flesh!

The announcer voice comes on: "Amazing, we have one criminal who has completed the First Trial." More crowd cheers, though some boos can be heard.

Female Tiefling Rogue (Sniper)

"Boo all you want you slimy imbeciles." Catelyn glances over her shoulder at the rest of the criminals grouped at the other side, making especial notice of Kor.

She cups her hands and yells over the din of the roaring fire, "You coming?"

"Well, nothing for it, I guess," Emilian mutters, then preps himself and dives through the flames.

if a jet hits me and does more damage than half of my health I am going to stop, not run through to my death

Emilian dodges the first flame but cannot the second and his shoulder and chest take the brunt. Despite the intolerable pain, he musters the courage and passes on through, avoiding the last jet.

Kor perfectly times the first one and again the second, but the third jet scalds his arms but he fights through the pain to the other side.

Giving him a moment to ready himself, Cirnos pulls Kazmuk aside and whispers:

Following lead of Varos, Haterivet double-checks the plaque, before reading it. He touches it, feels it, turn it around (if possible) to see if anything else is written there. Remembering what dandy baron told them, he tries a different approach.

He tries to find any telltale signs of a secret door, or some hidden slits in the wall, which could be used as improvised ladders and such.

Turning to Varos he adds: "Maybe you could try dispelling those flames, even if is for just a brief period of time?"

Varos, is your spell granting saves and such still "on"?
Perception check 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 (+5 if spell from Varnos us still active)
edit: pardon for this, my original roll was 14 +4 (or +5), but did not format it properly

Cirnos steps up and amazingly runs through all three jets like a madman, getting burned by each one, as he goes and yet, he manages to still stand as he reaches the other side! The crowd cheers his incredible luck and tenacity!

Voice: "Ladies and gentlemen, the first time anyone has ever survived being burned by all three jets! Amazing....he must be unholy blessed by his dark god!"

Spoiler:
I swore you were dead! And to show there is no favoritism and this is all legit, see the rolls for yourselves! Damage: 6d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 2, 1, 2, 2) = 14
