Variel Nightstorm |
Drawing his cutlass to provide light in the area Variel slashes at the shark. Dhaavan, block the path! We can't let them get away.
Cutlass attack 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 9 - 2 = 22 for 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 4 damage I believe after water penalties?
Move action draw weapon to illuminate the area
Standard to attack shark
Free speech to Dhaavan
Rain Taneththir |
Rain stilled her swimming and tread water and commanded her magical pike to extend to its full 20 feet length to attack the shark before Jiro. (Rain was swimming 10 feet behind Variel and Jiro)
Through their message spell connection, Rain declared to all, //"Attack the shark and put it down fast!"// (Freebooter's Bane)
Attack with +1 Boarding Pike of Repelling with FB: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 8 + 1 = 21
Damage with FB, if hits: 1d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 1 = 12
Swim check to tread water under the surface?: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14 (Don't know if this is necessary but tossing it up, just in case.)
Move action: Activated Freebooter's Bane (+1 to hit and damage on shark)
Swift Action: Command pike to full 20 ft length
Standard Action: Normal (One-handed) Attack on shark with pike
Horatio Flynn |
//"Attack the shark and put it down fast!"//
Horatio sees her weapon jump forward and his eyes flash in enthusiasm as he sees her weapon thrust into its belly.
"Kick ass!"
DM Immortal |
no need for swim check unless you are moving Rain. Nice shot btw!
Variel slices at the shark and catches it with a glancing blow, the strike much less powerful than it would normally be. Rain, follows up with a vicious jab, spearing the fish and laying it open. It begins to twitch as it sinks towards the bottom.
Shark Fin Soup tonight! Jk that is a horrible horrible practice...
Horatio Flynn |
It begins to twitch as it sinks towards the bottom.
Horatio glances at the shark and nudges Rain on the arm.
"Nice move," he says to her softly and grins, then juts his chin at the other enemies in front of them.
"You ready to do more killing?"
Horatio Flynn |
"I'd say you proved handy enough, Flynn,"
Horatio turns to the priest and nods; a light in his eyes after the killing.
"My thanks, padre," he says, tipping the barrel of his pistol against his forelock like a crude salute.
He turns his gaze to the Sahungian ahead.
"Well, it looks like it's game to you," he says to the priest as he prepares himself for the enemy ahead.
Rain Taneththir |
Relieved that the shark was ended quickly, Rain looked across to Flynn, //"Thank you. Good work to you and Variel, as well."//, she said through their message connection.
//"I hope that blood does not draw other sharks. And aye, let us be done with these Sahuagin."//
She then focused her gaze upon the Sahuagin who had not moved, to attack, yet. What are they waiting for? she wondered to herself, her pike ready to pierce their flesh.
Dhaavan |
The world slowed down as the shark attacked, taking them by surprise, then Rain carved the beast open. Mere moments that felt like hours passed as the sahaguin readied to attack. Dhaavan flickes light at them and smiles as instants tick by... Hope your four are comfortable over there
With a flick of his wrist, Dhaavan burbles a command word and and webbing explodes into being around the Sahaguin bottom left corner of the very bottom sahaguin. It catches all of the fish-men and blocks the southern exit pretty thoroughly.
Horatio Flynn |
//"I hope that blood does not draw other sharks. And aye, let us be done with these Sahuagin."//
He watches the blood ooze from the corpse. .
"Well-spoken, Pilot-Major; but I reckon that sharks can smell a drop of blood in the water over a mile away... "
"But the way I see it: if it bleeds, we can kill it!"
Horatio Flynn |
"I could call lightning down on the, but the storm don't always work well with the waves."
Horatio turns to Adular.
"Never mind the lightening, padre... I reckon it's time to call down the thunder," he says, nodding to the enemy in front of them, eager to see what the priest shall do to these scum.
Horatio Flynn |
Pardon, are the enemies at least partially above the water? Call Lightning doesn't work under water so that might be a factor.
Because sadly, most of Adular's offensive spells are spent from the earlier fight
Actually, I don't know if they are specifically - I figure they must be for us to hear them and for Web to work. But even if they're totally submerged - no matter what you do, there's nothing like a little "Thundersmack" ;)
DM Immortal |
The whole complex is totally underwater. Ok now bed for real lol. Assume their stuck in web for now.
Rain Taneththir |
Rain watched as Dhaavan used the wand of web on the four Sahuagin. The strong, sticky strands had trapped them at present but she did not know for how long. Least it gave them some time to swim closer.
Through the message spell connection, Rain sent word to Dhaavan, //"You got them before they could swim away. Well done. Now let us swim forward, quickly."//
Horatio Flynn |
GM: I'm happy to swim forward as Rain suggests; but aren't we still formally waiting for Adular and Jiro to act this round? I don't know if there's much they can do;, but if they're planning on moving forward and stabbing these guys or something while their webbed, that's a possibility, or whatever they plan to do.
I'm only asking because I'm not sure if I can act at this time, yet. Also, while I'm thinking about it, where is the dimensions of the web on the map so we don't accidentally swim up and bump into it?
Horatio nods at Rain, but for now he's uncertain - curious to know what the priest and the kitsune shall do next.
DM Immortal |
Try and keep discussions to a sentence or two at most per round all. You wouldn't have that much talking time irl. I need ACTION!!! ;-) Also any time you move, i need a swim check (dc 10 but you can't take 10 in combat like this but for normal movement you can forgo it out of combat) and whether you are moving quarter speed as a move action, or half speed as a full round action.
Rain Taneththir |
Rain has +13 Swim so she auto succeeds, thus why I didn't roll. Sorry.
This new round, Rain moved half speed for a full round action. I thought the plan was to move quickly to the trapped Sahuagin before they had time to try and escape the webs?
Seijiro |
Seijiro tries charm person on one of the Sahaugin... I know it's not the best action possible, but I don't want to get in the webs to attack
will save dc 13 and I believe they get +5 to their saves because there has been an aggressive action taken
DM Immortal |

Sahuagin Save vs charm: 1d20 ⇒ 2
So two of them are completely entangled in the webbing and one of the ones that was not tangled is now feeling much more friendly towards Seijiro and is smiling a very disturbingly fishy smile at him.
The last one escapes the web and heads quickly north through the tunnel out of sight screaming in terror.

Okay - not sure if I can Auto Succeed on swimming, but I assume I do as I have a +10 to swim. Also, I don't know if I can formally "Run" (via the question on the discussion thread) so for now I'm holstering one of the pistols and move 15 forward as indicated on the map. If I can move further, please let me know.
Finally - GM: will you allow the use of Unchained Errata to Skills? If so, here is the information on what it can do for "Swim". Please let me know - thanks!
Swim Unchained - Source PFU
About This Section Optionally, a character who reaches 5, 10, 15, or 20 ranks in a skill unlocks various bonuses and abilities unique to that skill. The unchained rogue uses these rules extensively, but others can gain access to them with a new feat.
In this system, characters unlock additional abilities when they attain 5, 10, 15, and 20 ranks in a skill. The skill unlocks system interfaces with the unchained rogue to make the rogue the true master of skills.
Skill unlocks give characters new abilities and ways to use their skills upon reaching 5, 10, 15, and 20 ranks in a skill. Any character with the Signature Skill feat can earn skill unlocks for a single skill, and they are a prime feature of the revised version of the rogue who uses her rogue's edge ability to gain skill unlocks for several of her most iconic skills. Alternatively, you might make skill unlocks a universal part of the game, but you should be aware they add significant power and flexibility to skills, so giving them for free to all classes would grant power boosts to other highly skilled classes such as the investigator and bard, particularly in comparison to the rogue. Another alternative is to eliminate access to the Signature Skill feat, limiting skill unlocks to rogues and rogues alone.
With sufficient ranks in Swim, you earn the following.
5 Ranks: You gain a swim speed of 10 feet, but only in water with a Swim DC of 15 or lower.
10 Ranks: You gain a swim speed (though you do not gain the +8 racial bonus on Swim checks) equal to your base speed in water with a Swim DC of 15 or lower, or 10 feet in all other water.
15 Ranks: You ignore the penalties for using slashing or bludgeoning weapons underwater, as freedom of movement.
20 Ranks: You gain a swim speed equal to your base speed in all water. If you have both hands free, you gain a +8 racial bonus on Swim checks.
Horatio's eyes narrow and he kicks forward. He'll let the more diplomatic folk in his company deal with the trapped scum; for now he's after the one who got away...
And now I'm off to the mechanic. Wish me luck!
Variel Nightstorm |
Out of range of the Sahuagin Variel takes the opportunity to swim as far forward as possible.
Ful round action to move 15ft just ahead of Horatio on my iPad so if someone could me me that would be great thanks.
Seijiro |
Seijiro grins as he realizes his magic is successful, and in Aquan, tells the charmed one "all is well, you'll not be harmed if you cooperate, my new friend." He moves forward to the edge of the webs and lets Variel and Horatio go after the fleeing one.
He turns to Dhaavan and asks in common... "How long will these webs last in the salt water?"
DM Immortal |
Horatio not at this point. I don't know enough about it as a whole. Maybe at some point in the future I'll adopt it but not now.
DM Immortal |
Also who has light spells active? I want to put a light radius around you all for those that need it.
Also, Horatio, are you wearing your eyepatch?
Seijiro |
I have dancing lights circling the area we are in currently.... right now they are floating around and illuminating us and the sahuagin in the webs
Rain Taneththir |
Catching sight of Dhaavan floundering behind her as she kicked off to swim, Rain pushed the pike behind her for the sorcerer to grasp/hold onto and attempted to aid him in swimming forward.
Aid to Swim (Dhaavan): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (20) + 13 = 33
Part of her action this round 2. Immortal okayed it.
Dhaav, since Rain got a nat 20 - Immortal ruled (via PM) that she instantly aided you and you don't need another aid to swim to propel your guy forward.
DM Immortal |
I'm going to just say these Sahuagin will be stuck for the duration so narrate as you will. These guys are way too easy for you all to have trouble with right now so just let me know what you would do in narration. The other guy swam off to the north. If you want to narrate how you all would kill them that's fine but they won't surrender and will fight to the death. Seijiro, your guy will get a new save from the fact that he is trapped in the web.
Dhaavan |
Dhaavan catches himself in his robes as he tries to swim, before getting some very much needed assistance from Rain, Thank you again, M'lady Aaaand, I need a spell so I don't flounder like that every time we get damp
Horatio Flynn |
Also, Horatio, are you wearing your eyepatch?
I would be - but I'm still not certain; I was waiting to hear back about if it negatively impacts/effects range attacks the same way that losing an eye normally does. If that's the case, I probably won't be wearing it. If it doesn't negatively impact my sight/aim, then I probably will be.
Also, sorry I didn't get much up sooner, I would have but I was listening to a very interesting piece on C-Span. To wit - "If we live in constant fear, the extremists have already won..." - wise words to live by ;)
Horatio continues to move north up the cavern.
DM Immortal |
Going to move ahead a bit.
You manage to make short work of the three Sahuagin trapped in the web. Rain uses her massive pike and jabs the creatures to death. After this is done, you make your way up the northern tunnel and into a strange and eerie room. Floating all around the room are slimy pink balls that glow with a red phosphorescence attached to thing filaments from floor to ceiling. As you look closer you see small tadpole like creatures twitching inside the orbs. There is another tunnel leading to the north.
Horatio Flynn |
Glad you liked that btw. :-)
You gotta love some good C-Span commentators ;)
Solid; in which case Horatio would have it on. Meanwhile, with the patch, I'll need a new pic of him - for your consideration pic.
Rounds 2 - Applicable
Horatio swims forward until he sees something of note...
Adular |
Having trouble moving my piece on the map. I THINK I got it, and thanks to the vest I'm moving 60 if I want
Getting closer, Adular concentrates and lets loose a stormburst at the nearest foe!
Storm Burst (Sp): As a standard action, you can create a storm burst targeting any foe within 30 feet as a ranged touch attack. The storm burst deals 1d6 points of nonlethal damage + 1 point for every two cleric levels you possess. In addition, the target is buffeted by winds and rain, causing it to take a –2 penalty on attack rolls for 1 round. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier.

EDIT:
Not sure who else may be swimming with me (other than Variel - but Horatio shall communicate what he sees with whoever is with him...
Also, can we get an amended map?
Horatio moves forward into a wide room and sees a collection of strange eggs all around. His eyes narrow and a growl is deep in his throat.
Considering what he knows about the Sahuagin, he suspects that the peaceful creatures are being bred here as slaves.
While his entire life, and the lives as mates, as formal pirate began as a slave for that scum Captain and his damnable Mate Plugg, he himself was never fully committed to the ideals that most "pirates" seem to embrace, including their casual acceptance of slavery.
He would rather save these poor beings rather than attempt to pillage the eggs and sell them as plunder and hopes the others agree with his sentiment in this case.
Yet for now, all he can do is wait and see.
Actually, Horatio is curios to know how deep the cave is, and what else we can see in it at this time. In other words; are there any other exits or possible threats?
Finally, where is guy number 4 on this map?
Horatio Flynn |
Know nature d20+5
Oblivious to what is around him Variel pushes onward quickly. Hurry, we must catch the Sahuagin before he alerts the others!
Variel ignores the tadpoles and full round action to move as far after the Sahuagin as possible.
Horatio nods at Variel.
"Aye..." he says slowly, and he scans the room for the threat; hoping there is no waiting ambush...
EDIT: Okay, I just saw the new map and I realized that the GM has now placed me way behind with everyone else for some reason; meanwhile, he also put Variel far ahead and on point and alone?
Anyhow, I'm not sure why that is; but for now I guess since I'm in the back and everyone else has suddenly been moved up there's really no way I can act this round to aid Variel - so I'm just going to stay put and see what happens next.
DM Immortal |
Adular, you manage to take out one of the Sahuagin with Rain before heading north into the other room.
Variel, as you head into the next room you see a horrifying sight. Rusty shackles dangle from the ceiling to the savagely beaten and tortured body of a strange creature. A fishlike creature with orange scales and a crested fin on its head hangs floating from the ceiling, twitching in pain and madness. The creatures legs look they have been chewed off and the stumps raggedly stitched up. Carved scars and open wounds criss cross the creature from top to bottom, some forming the shape of crude tattoos with vile sayings in aquan.
Behind her with a trident pointed at her back, the Sahuagin that got away says in aquan /Get back or I'll run the disgusting Locathah whore through!/

Auto succeed on swim check.
Rain glanced at the spheres with the tiny tadpoles inside but could not presently distinguish what manner of sea creature they were, so she passed them mindfully and continued to swim, protecting the rear it would seem.
Moving half speed (15 ft) for a full round action.
She gave her attention to Dhaavan from time to time, hoping the sorcerer would do better with his swimming, but if he lagged or faltered, she'd push out her pike for him to hold and be pulled along.
Swim Aid to Dhaavan, if required: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15 (+2 to Dhaav's swim check)
Variel Nightstorm |
Variel came hurrying forward as fast as he could looking for the Sahuagin. The sight before his eyes was not what he expected though. There was a creature hanging in shackles obviously tortured with one of the evil sahuagin behind it. Not knowing what it was saying Variel reacts more than thinks as he wants to swim forward to grapple the sahuagin to prevent it from doing any further harm.
I am hoping that we gain init on the creature and act first as you can't technically ready an action outside of combat. Otherwise if any of you have any ideas please feel free to interrupt. Immoratl are we in combat rounds or should we wait for initiative? Others might act first in this situation making Variel's action null and void.
DM Immortal |
Just an fyi var, you are at least a full round swim away from the creature, you cannot get there and act in this round.
Horatio Flynn |
Without words, Horatio points his pistol and pulls the trigger at the creature -
Attack with pistol with penalties and bonuses applied
1d20 + 5 + 3 + 1 + 1 + 1 - 8 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 3 + 1 + 1 + 1 - 8 - 2 = 9
1d8 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 1 + 1 + 4 = 13
EDIT: Reroll on dice
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Variel Nightstorm |
It looked like a 5ft distance on the map. hmm time to think of plan B but are we going in init order on this still?
DM Immortal |
Holy S*#~!! Nice shot Horatio!
Horatio looks at the creature holding the trident at the back of the poor tortured creature, a flash of black fire reflecting from the onyx embedded in the eye patch over his eye. He cracks his neck and whips his pistol up and a muffled *FWUMP!* reverberates around the chamber. Once the shockwave subsides, you look to see the Sahuagin in the same position, unmoving...a single trail of greenish blood seeping from the large hole right between it's bulbous eyes. The gentle current begins the sway the creature to the bottom of the cavern, among the detritus of the tortured Locathah.
DM Immortal |
Sorry var it was 5 feet to the locathah, the sahuagin was over 10 feet.
