If you should lose a character in the interim, please consider me for reinsertion (again). Just send me a pm if the game gets going again and you need me to return. I have an aquatic sorceress, and nowhere to take her. I suppose the Shattered Star campaign might work for her too, but I have a hankering for this one. :P

Chesley "Chez" Saryn |

A disheveled looking Chez stumbles out of a brothel, women in tow behind him.
"I've had a great time, but I really have to go now. I have important... ahh... work to attend to. I'll be back soon... just keep the bed warm for me. Barely a moment will pass and I'll return. See you soon... umm... you and you... my special ladies."
Chez walks briskly away as he curses under his breath about never drinking cheap wine ever again, and how he needs to maintain his standards.
"Hrmm, I had a boat moored around here somewhere I think?" The lingering effects of the spoiled, cheap wine continue to dim is memory. "Oh right, there were those women. Those wonderful women. And that funny little monk. Where the hell are they? And I think we had a porter who spoke little common?"
Chez wanders the streets in a daze, trying to jar his memory.
Hi all. I'm not sure when the game continued last time or where I was at the time, but it looks like I missed some gameplay before "the big pause". It looks like the break happened about the same time I was in GenCon. The sad part was, it sounds like a few other players were at the con too. It would have been neat to hook up. I try to go about every 2nd year. It's so bloody expensive visiting it from Canada. Anyways I look forward to a possible return to this campaign and I hope everyone is able return to it as well.

Okay, here is a recap in the meantime of your highlights since you all may have forgotten given much time has passed:
You met upon the decks of the Velvet Rose ship commanded by Captain James Barron
While schmoozing you met Devon Altamir and his brother Dixon, guards traveling with their cargo
You bravely held off an attack of Sahuagin where Dixon and 6 sailors lost their lives and you earned the thanks and gratefulness of the Captain
You arrived in Eleder where Devon left to deliver his cargo, promising to spread word of your fame and send work your way
He told you he could be found in Lower Harbor if you ever needed him
While you partied the night with the crew, you were approached by Winnington, loyal manservant to Lady Lavinia Vanderboren and offered a meeting
In the morning you learned of a recent war in the streets between 2 thieves' guilds, the Black Circle and the Lotus Dragons and it appears the Dragons are winning
You meet Lavinia, learn she recently lost her parents in a shipping accident and she is in debt and needs to collect the gold from the family vault but the key is on the ship, the Blue Nixie
Unfortunately, the ship has been illegally confiscated by a brute named Soller Vark
You travel to the ship, swim there stealthily with a clever use of an Air Bubble spell, take out his men, an escaped spider-scorpion like creature called a rhagodessa, which Ialda slew in a fit of rage, followed by her exploding Vark's head
You return the key to Lavinia and accompany her to the vault where you solve the combination and defeat the guardian
While the gold was recovered, Lavinia discovered a large amount was missing and suspected only one other person who had access: her estranged brother Vanthus
At this time you meet the colorful Baolo
She asked you to find and bring him alive, if possible back to her
You catch a break when you speak with Kern the sailor, an ex-flunky of Vark, whom you allowed to live, and he recommends you speak to a local smuggler named Penkus, who frequents the local pearl markets a lot
You scope the place out but instead meet Shefton Rosk who asks if you're looking for Vanthus and directs you to the smuggler's tunnels underneath Parrot Island where he says Vanthus and Penkus can be found
You head to the island and into the tunnels
You corner Vanthus in a locked room but he is prepared with a potion of invisibility and he ends up trapping the party in the tunnels to die
You found a note on Penkus' body or what remained of it that said Vanthus double-crossed him too and told you to investigate the local taxidermist's hall
Eventually after fighting your way through hordes of ravenous zombies led by a huecuva priest, you escaped the tunnels via the use of a potion of gaseous form and returned the Eleder
You returned to Lavinia and she told you to bring her brother back if ensorceled or dead, if he turned evil
After healing, you head to the Hall run by Nemien Roblach, who quickly turned on you and tried to take you out with his arcane magic only to die at your hands
You found an underground passage and ran into some reef crawlers who poisoned Ialda (down 3 Str I believe)
You realized that the passage ahead was blocked by the harbor seeping in and headed the other direction where you heard sounds of a beating in a room
Baolo killed the initial guard with an arrow and now you're fighting the 2 guards inside who were beating on the bound human in the chair
Chez and Xarethi (if the rogue does not come back) are on their way but not available for this battle
I think that covers it!

I guess up to you where you've been during the past few days. Chez' story was that he was whoring. You met up at the Vanderboren estate where you were directed to join the rest of the party at the Taxidermist's guildhall. Upon arriving there, you met a wounded male exiting who gave you instructions where the secret passage was and to head east. You did so and come across the rest of the party. Feel free to jump into the game when you want.

As I totally was missing it, we have a loot thread!
And good to see everyone is alive and well.
As one item of note, we do have 2 wands of mage armor now!

I just sort of threw that out there to comically explain Chez's absence. If there is a better reason why Chez and Xarethi were delayed, that that would work fine. Perhaps they were pursuing a different lead on Vanthus that didn't work out, so they are just now returning?
(Chez does try to be a man of standards, and whoring to him is like taking the easy way out. No challenge... unless they were very attractive and picky about their clientele. Of course, if Chez somehow imbibed from some cheap fermented wine that hampered his thought processes, then the garden-variety-whore option would be viable.)

Aeronniell Ithilwen |

Just wanted to note that since Aeronniell is "haunted" by her Oracle curse, it's a standard action for her to pull out the Wand of CLW, so she can't pull it out and use it in the same round.
Presumably it sticks out of her belt, so it's easily grabbed by someone else with a move action?

Chesley "Chez" Saryn |

No worries, all part of the game.
Chez certainly was one who enjoyed the thrill of life, so naturally he would say "oh god yes". Of course for level 2 characters that barely have the ability to scrape together funds even for a healing potion, let alone a resurrection, I'd say the opportunity looks grim. Unless there is a priest around that owes us a favor I wouldn't want to detriment the party's available gold on resurrecting him.

Aeronniell Ithilwen |

It's not the raise dead or the reincarnate, it's the two restorations!
Raise dead and the restorations needed is 7000gp of diamonds, then the casting services on top.
Reincarnate and the restorations needed would be 3000gp of materials, then the casting services on top.
3rd level WBL is supposed to be 3000gp each.
As we've learned, Lucendar is a bit of a "killer GM" on the challenge levels, so we'll want to be careful.
It might come down to Ches's desires. We do have a fairly wealthy patron in Lavinia, and he did die in the service of trying to find her brother.
I'm all for the raise, but if the Lotus Dragon treasure hall is 10,000gp, it will be a rough 3rd level if we burn it all on raising expenses. We probably need 10,000-15,000gp to divvy up just to reach the WBL power bar.
TLDR: Lavinia should spring for the raise/reincarnate and restorations. :)
Too bad it wasn't Aero who took that hit. I'm regretting the Stargazer archetype a bit, and seeing first-hand why folks say that Oracle archer is a rough and bumpy road, and might leap at a re-roll. :)

Ialda Soumral |

Well, when you get Precise Shot, things should look up quite a bit, Aero. Ialda is always in the way, unfortunately!
I actually hadn't looked at the prices for the raises, etc. If Lavinia can't spring for it, it's gonna be tough to afford it, unfortunately. Hopefully she will allow it versus some of our future employment!

Lucendar |

Killer GM??! Don't know how I got this reputation...think I've killed at most 4-5 player characters in my pbps over the years. Chez was bad luck that he got hit with a 20 when he was at 0 hps; I had a 15% chance of hitting him. Lucky roll.
As for Lavinia paying for the raise dead costs, keep in mind she is practically broke after paying all her debts and vanthus stole part of her parents' money. She had to borrow from her uncle; all this has been revealed in the story so far.

Ialda Soumral |

I was afraid that was the fact about Lavinia's lack of funds, DM. That damn Vanthus raided her family's treasures.
Unfortunately, Chez might have to make a different PC, it seems. In a couple levels, we'd have the cash to fix him right up, but I can't see how we swing it right now.
DM, your reputation might have came from me always whining about that demon hitting Jarva with that x4 scythe crit back in LoF. It lopped off my head in one fell stroke!

Ialda Soumral |

That boat fight was crazy, as I remember it. The sauhaghuain {sp?} and that doggone spider creature that Ialda got really lucky with and critted...that was intense, lol.
That's why I like Lucendar so much. He takes you right to the edge, and hasn't ever pushed us over it. That is a real talent in GMing.
