Thematically, magic COULD look any way the caster willed it to. Though certain effects, like fireball or lightning, etc. Have properties that make concealing them in simple ways impossible. Burning so hot it catches the air around it on fire, for example.
Magic missle is a good example. It's a force type spell, though I'd say "force" would cause a type of ripple effect, that doesn't mean that it's not a clear ripple effect that is difficult to see. Then again, you may wish to shoot sparkly purple unicorns when you use it, that's something that easy to manipulate.

Lord "Inkwell" Rook |

No worries. I did overhear Valignatir discuss assassinating Prince Stavian, and misinterpreted it as actual assassins in the crowd, so Lord Rook's got plenty of false leads to follow.
Also: I'm taking a last-minute trip to Vegas for the next few days; no idea how much internet I'll have.

GM Leviathan |

Ok... As two players are out through the weekend, this gives me time to collect my thoughts, organize the stress in my life to only a small amount of explosive anger.
I will be reconveining on, Sunday night or Monday day. You all have my cell number now, if you fear my disappearing.

Ser Constantine Rook |

Some stress is good! Good luck with it though. I recently started taking on way too many things (baby on way, full time grad school, full time new job, learning new programming language, ADD counseling) and organization is a necessity!
Now if only I could solve the problem of a cat destroying stuff every time I leave for a few weeks on training or job stuff. I might use this weekend to write up a bit on House Rook sort of like the other noble house pieces.

![]() |

I guess that means we can see whether Lady Gabrielle manages to arrange a chance meeting between Nev and the Lord Commander?

GM Leviathan |

I don't really have the time to go through a cut-scene this weekend. It'd mean having to rapid fire posts in a way that I know I won't be able to keep up with this weekend.
I'm calculating all of your estate stuff today to give you numbers by this evening.

![]() |

Speaking of, I still haven't managed to figure out how the heck the estates work. I just chose a bunch of rooms with no real concept of what it all means. Any help from anyone in the party who has unlocked the secrets?

GM Leviathan |

Lol! The ultimate campaign guide has better rules printed than pfsrd. It's available for download (I don't admit to supporting piracy) all over the internet.

GM Leviathan |

I know you guys don't know me personally, so this might be weird...
I'm about to enter into a dependency and neglect case for my Son's safety in regards to his Mother's neglect, in the next few weeks. This is a long arduous process that will be extremely mentally and emotionally taxing on me.
I want you guys to be aware, because I want you to be informed of my situation as we go forward.
I will not abandon you as your GM during this time, but it may become difficult to post at times.
I will be beginning this process within the next month, and it will take more than a year to complete.

GM Leviathan |

First Estate calculation has been turned in. Lady Rubicon, review your PMs for the information.
As a note, I am calculating with a preference to GP over other resources.

GM Leviathan |

You may use those resources any way you like. If you want me to recalculate, you'll have to give me more time.
I believe all of the other stats have an exchange number attacked to them somewhere too.

Lord "Inkwell" Rook |

S&~& dude! Good luck, and take all the time you need. I don't know a ton of lawyers who do with that sort of thing (although I can think of a few family friends doing separation law in various states, they're all having tough times of their own right now, but if you have any questions I can try to find a lawyerly answer).

GM Leviathan |

Thanks, but I'll have a handle on that. I've got cop and lawyer buddies around here.

GM Leviathan |

Lord Rook Senior, I have calculated your Estate holdings. As per what was said for Rubicon, there is a conversion to the other resources that you may use if you wish.

GM Leviathan |

also... Are any of you good with spread sheets? this would be SO much easier if I didn't have to custom build a spreadsheet every time, just clicking on what you have, and adding a quantity and a "Days passed" would be so useful!

GM Leviathan |

A drop down list of each potential item, followed by quantity, then "days passed"
To give me an estimate.
Also, Val, enact 'THE PLAN' muahahahaha!

Valignatir |

Just a few Knowledge rolls on Rook and Constantine.
I can prepare enough Know the Enemy's to get the bonus on all of them.
Nobility (Rook and his House): 20 + 21 = 41
Local (on Rook himself): 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (12) + 21 = 33
Diplomacy (gathering any info I can): 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (14) + 20 = 34
Religion (to identify holy symbols and learn what I can): 1d20 + 21 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 21 + 2 = 26
Nobility (Constantine and his Company: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (16) + 21 = 37
Local (on Constantine, not sure what I'm looking for): 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (5) + 21 = 26
Diplomacy (again, just looking): 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (6) + 20 = 26

GM Leviathan |

Those checks seem reasonable to get most information on the two.
Rook and Conny:
Follow the guildelines I presented earlierfor information gathering and present what is available to Val.

GM Leviathan |

Ugh!
I've got like 80 different things I'm working out for you guys right now. Then I have Game tonight.
CRFaye is on her way home, but it didn't sound like she was going to be in town until very late tonight, so I'll be pushing off one more day to accommodate. PLUS! it's an excuse to give me more time to process all of the stuff I'm working on.

GM Leviathan |

Let's see, Maybe this will help with future downtime stuffs
Fillable Downtime tracking sheet.pdf
---Edit---
Well! That link didn't work. s&%!...
we need something that works better though. Filling this all in manually is incredibly time consuming.

GM Leviathan |

Val and Conny, Check your PMs. Your Estate Earnings are available for review.
It has been brought to my attention that I may be calculating these earnings incorrectly. IF this is the case, I am still going to GM fiat that you gained what I've informed you of, because of the "Retro" effect.
Next time I calculate this, I will do it correctly, so don't be surprised if it is significantly less than you've earned during this downtime.

GM Leviathan |

Nev, it seems that all of your spoilers are not functioning. We will have to fix this at some point so I can properly run your estate. It'd also be nice to have a record of your character on the site. I know that there have been some issues with the site during the last update with losing info and the like.

Nev Atropa |

I shall do my best to fix that today. We're trying to get everything unpacked from our trip. We SHOULD have been home yesterday by 7 at the latest. We got home at around 3am. My boyfriend had to strap his front axel to his bumper so that we could get home, what with the bent-ness. Four wheeling was a success, getting home was hard though.
So I have some things I absolutely have to get done today before my return to work tomorrow, but I will make sure to update as soon as I can.

GM Leviathan |

Well!
With that fiasco over. Let's begin the scene in Opparra!

GM Leviathan |

Super secret GM roll!: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (18) + 19 = 37

GM Leviathan |

LOL! @Rook.
Your horse certainly has the "heart" of a lion!
-Is the Lion tamed/trained? If so, teaching it to behave is no problem.
-What's the lead in the coat for?
-Walking again, doesn't come that difficult, but you still need to make me a small dexterity check to get your legs back under you.

Lord "Inkwell" Rook |

Let's see...
-It's an animal companion, yeah. I figure he has a new white lion shipped over from Osirion every 10-20 years. I can see through its eyes, etc.
-Blocking Detect spells, like an X-Ray vest. I don't know why more people don't do this, but one of the 3.5 splatbooks had details for the weight and cost of lining clothing with lead to block
Detect Magic spells.
-Also, I'm going to hide a monkey familiar under the hat, carrying a bandolier of emergency potions; lead lining the hat makes it impossible to detect with spells, and lead lining the coat makes the lead in the hat less suspicious.
Let's see... a potion of Ant Haul (from cohort) boosts my light load up to 60 lb; I've got less than 10 lb of equipment, so assuming the lead-lined coat (I assume it's a sheet of thin, beaten foil sewed into the lining of a floor-length coat or opera cloak) weighs 50lb or less, I'm fine.
Meanwhile, my maximum achievable Dex is about 12 or so...
Dexterity check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
...hmm, might need to lean on the "horse" for support, then. Riding isn't an issue, because my Irori faith trait lands me a +22 to Ride.

GM Leviathan |

I was looking for a 12 dex check, BUT you've got all morning, so I'll allow 3 more checks. Once you get above a 12, you no longer need to rely on a cane or other support devices... Though, if you do still need to rely on a cane, you might just justify that as being hung by your ankles for an excessive amount of time.

Lord "Inkwell" Rook |

Dex 2: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Dex 3: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Dex 4: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Good enough. I figure Rook does walk on his peg leg sometimes, but yeah, the balance without it should be different.

GM Leviathan |

you manage to pick yourself up on your own power after an two hours of practice in the morning. You are able to walk on these disguised legs for the next 24 hours.

Lord "Inkwell" Rook |

Guessing this is setting the timeline re: APs. I think we're at book 2 of WotR, and I'm guessing we'll see the outcomes of other stories as well. Lord Rook's probably curious about the outcome of Mummy's Mask, but doesn't have a vested interest in any of those stories.

GM Leviathan |

For player knowledge: I have just indicated the end of Skull & Shackles, (The bit about the Chelish Navy) and the First bits of Wrath of the Righteous (the bit about the fall of Kenabres).
I don't intend on you guys traveling to and participating in any of the APs. I DO however want to include the ability to participate by proxy in the APs. I have things that happen resultant to the APs that you will be doing.
I will be including other bits from other APs as well, but as the title of this game suggests, it's still about Taldor's glory in regards to what's happening in the rest of the world.
Also, as a note, I think at least one of you should be aware that the "Torch" in Numeria has gone out... This was the only means of re-forging adamantium, a "Star"-metal, in all of Avistan.

Valignatir |

Wow, man. This is fantastic.
Leaving me stranded in Taldor while my country fights a war against those pirates?
Devious. Now Val wants to Recall back to Egorian, take a ship down to The Shackles, and put down that silly rebellion.
But he can't!
You, Leviathan, are the truly evil one here.

GM Leviathan |

Lol! I try!
How else am I supposed to set up the turmoil in Cheliax for an opportunist to take advantage of?
The chance to actually kill Admrial Thrune is in S&S. I personally believe that with her death the downfall of the Chelish Navy becomes fairly likely. I think she's actually one of the higest ranked officers in the Country, if memory serves... If not, she IS NOW! lol.
Also... That angel is DEFINITELY not a devil in disguise! lol.
I was going to chime in with something about how Val had to make the perception roll to identify Rook, but I forgot that he had true seeing up, and NONE of Rook's disguise was described as non-magically applied.

GM Leviathan |

I find myself awake all night hitting the refresh button every 2 minutes in hopes that you guys will have posted... I need to pick up a game to play!
My Mutant City blues has come to a snail's pace, and the "Infinite exploration" themed game just vanished...
Anyone know if a good place to get my PbP fix as a player? lol!
Also, T-beard, were we going to work something out for a tandem team of Carney scum rebels in the event that Ascension decides to open that game up? I was thinking of revamping Papa into a Knife Throwing\Fortune teller instead of just a druggy. lol!

Lord "Inkwell" Rook |

Huh... my last campaign, one of the characters was a devil who always disguised herself as an angel.
@GM: The problem with PbP is you always have too many games or too few, because they're naturally unpredictable. Just keep an eye out (I've been PbPing for over a year now, join about one game a month, and usually have 4-5 active), and don't burn yourself out. I'll let you know if any of the games I'm in start looking for new players—and yeah, if the Rebellion game starts up, definitely got a character ready to propose with flexible story.
@Val: True Seeing doesn't penetrate clothing; so you can't tell if Lord Rook's really regrown a hand and leg (but the face looks the same, since that's all transmutation). Also, the eyepatch is real. And his "countrymen" in the Shackles were fighting the rebelling Chelaxian colony of Sargava, that declared independence in a rejection of House Thrune's rule.

Lord "Inkwell" Rook |

As for Sargava, I might know that. But Val doesn't.
You could always... gather information... before coming to a decision...
The third is Septimus
Septimus is Latin for "seventh." This is of course very accurate to Roman naming conventions, because mannnn those guys did not give a damn about their numbers.
