On the other hand, Taldor is home to many unique magical wonders of the world, which would totally explain a uniquely protected palace.
Lord "Inkwell" Rook |
If you had a decent bankroll? Any of a number of offensive spells cast over an area, followed immediately by a blanket antimagic field to prevent magical healing in the aftermath—which is the sort of thing that gets people to panic. Then a few mid-level assassins, with a lot of mid-range poison.
All things considered you could probably pull it off with three 10th-level characters and a 100k-200k gp budget.
Also, Nev: Do you have a mount? Do you need to borrow one?
GM Leviathan |
Ok. Nev, something is wrong with your profile, please get your crunch re-posted before we continue.
No one knows why magic isn't working in the Palace.
Lex will be able to tell you that the Lion Blades who were present, for some reason, didn't put up as much of a fight as they were able to, which led to them being slain, except for their Leader.
Lord "Inkwell" Rook |
I don't want to start a *war* in your house, which I figure might happen if I harped on the issue of Devils in front of members of the royal guard.
Also, with Bane, I can kick my fists up to +5 and punch through your Devils' DR like tissue paper. That's not a fight Lord Rook is worried about.
Lord "Inkwell" Rook |
Like, no offense, Val, but Lord Rook's combat role (if that ever happens) mostly involves beating the heck out of spellcasters with stats like you and your cohort. Mid-ranged summoned devils get mostly "that's cute" and "A for effort" and crazy exaggerated war stories about tearing apart outsiders with his bare hands back at the Worldwound 50 years ago.
Lady Kyra Rubicon |
Honestly? Lex would be perfect for any fight in the castle considering all his abilities function within an anti-magic field.
Of course, I kind of want to avoid having him butt into this campaign too much, he's not 100% stated out either, and he would probably stick with the princess anyways.
Luckily he has a ton of lvl 1 mooks who don't have any gear, but do have really high AC/really high to hit (Fighters in plate with tower shields and shield wall/gunslingers who hit touch AC) who can act in his place.
Valignatir |
Is he your character in the other Lords of Taldor game?
Yeah, I think it's best we keep this to us and our cohorts.
Val wouldn't, and won't, really be comfortable in antimagic, but he's still proficient with his mace, and could probably survive long enough to use one of his scrolls or otherwise escape.
If things go super-south here, he won't hesitate to run.
He's a devoted follower of the "live to fight another day" line of thinking.
Lady Gabrielle d'Apcher |
So it looks like we have, for the player characters:
Palace: Kyra + cohort, Valignatir, Nev + cohort, Lord Rook's cohort
Princess: Lord Rook, Constantine + cohort, Valignatir's cohort, Lady Gabrielle
As much as I want to keep Lady Gabrielle and Nev together, I just don't see her rushing headfirst towards danger. She'll stay with the Princess.

Ok!
Sorry, was at RL d and d and been taking care of my Son recently. Having him full time now is surprisingly taxing on my schedule.
I haven't read the last 13 posts, but I'm on that as we speak.
Info for the next 2 weeks: from the 18th through the 31st, I'll be driving to California and back. I cannot guarantee that I'll have internet access, but will be posting as best I can.
GM Leviathan |
No post tonight. Just too exhausted. Will update tomorrow.
Nev, please try to get profile working. I know you've tried multiple times, if you need help let me/us know.
I also know you pulled a 14 at works today, so no pressure, just a reminder.
Lady Gabrielle d'Apcher |
I think I have some time tonight to help out with bulletin board code if it'll take some of the burden off.

So! My Data is out on my phone until the 20th. I'll be posting via phone on this vacation, but it will definitely be spotty this weekend.
Question, do we want a "battle map" of the palace while we're there, or are descriptions ok with you guys?
Lady Gabrielle d'Apcher |
It's worth mentioning that the spreadsheet function of Google Drive can make for a quick and easy battlemat with little effort, if one is even needed.
GM Leviathan |
That's what I was going to use if you guys wanted one.
I'll be aa descript as possible. I wonder how easy gdrive spreadsheet is from the phone... Hmm! I guess we'll see soon... Maybe...
Nev Atropa |
I agree with very detailed descriptions and or battle map if it's not too much trouble. I know in RL we try to run with out mats and then everyone gets confused, and thats where people are standing in front of each other. I can't imagine how bad it would get on here.
Also working on trying to get my stuff to work.
GM Leviathan |
Are you working those spoilers right?
{spoiler=title}all your information{/spoiler}

GM Leviathan |
Okie dokie!
CRFaye is building a map on Google spreadsheet for me currently to see if this will work on my phone well enough to continue while I'm on vacation in California.
I'll be leaving later today, out of touch till Sunday (the 20th), then hopefully I'll be able to post when I'm in the hotels.
IF I'm unable to properly post/edit the google spreadsheet, or on the forum, we'll have to take a break till my return around the 31st.

Yo! Wi-Fi in Vegas!
I'm going to Disney Land with my kiddo. Anaheim.
How you guys doing? It's been a super long drive from Denver to Vegas, and I've got another 6 to go tomorrow to L.A. I'm not going to post tonight, but I thought I should check in.
Lady Gabrielle d'Apcher |
Work has been super-nasty to me lately. I'm looking forward for some nice Taldan escapism!

GM Leviathan |
Letting you guys know we'll be hitting Disney today, likely won't be posting again tonight, but after getting settled, I should be able to.
It's a pain driving all this way, but it's fun!
GM Leviathan |
I'm in Anaheim tonight, I was trying to post, but the internet isn't cooperating,, so it'll have to wait.

"Starting life as a Mexican is like starting a game as a gnome... On an individual basis, I'm sure you can be really cool, but your racial predisposition provides an initial -5 to that "cool" score..."
There are so many LESS Mexicans here than at home... It's weird.
Lord "Inkwell" Rook |
But... gnomes are amazing! In Pathfinder, they live forever, and are powered by charisma... in D&D, the gnomish patron deity, Garl Glittergold, compels his followers to commit daily practical jokes against each other, yet is still considered LG because gnomish morality is just that wacky.

How's Disneyland?
GM Leviathan |
Ugh! It was the 10th level of Hell. Screaming children... fat, obnoxious, entitled, spoiled children...
I can't wait to get home. I've got another week now.
But seriously, I need a vacation from this vacating. Somewhere I can just sit and drink a beer and sleep all day.
Lord "Inkwell" Rook |
So: ACG errata 2 just came out, and a lot of things changed. Here's a short list of what's relevant to Lord Rook, if our GM wants to move in the direction of newer feat descriptions:
-Divine Protection stopped being a thing (mostly; it's now 1/day). There's a new feat called Steadfast Personality that uses Cha instead of Wisdom for Will saves (and anyone can take it), and another one (Stoic, from a splatbook not on the PRD, and a local feat not for a region he's from) which uses Cha instead of Con for Fort saves. I might have an interest in shuffling some of that around...
-Sacred Huntmaster changed such that I now need to either get rid of my companion (i.e. turn it into a normal lion), get rid of Betraying Blow (use bluff to add to damage each round), or swap the Tactics inquisition out for Chivalry (lose the ability to grant +7 to everyone's initiative). Not sure yet which is the most suitable for the character, but I'll think about it.
Valignatir |
Unfortunately, what with losing Divine Protection, Val would actually be worse with Will saves with Steadfast Personality than he is now.
So I'm not sure what to change it out for, if the GM: 1. chooses to use the new one, and 2. let's me change it out.
Luckily, I don't feel as bad with Tiberion, if only because he couldn't qualify for it.
