Im going to wait until the shadow comes out of the room or the smoke clears before going after the shadow. I have cure light wounds to hurt it, but do you all think that would be a good use of the spell? I've only got the one left today.

DM Lil" Eschie |

As some of you try to regroup outside the room, you notice the shadow stays inside and doesn't pursue. Roguk bares his fangs and beats its massive chest, trying to protect Essa from the horrible dark unnatural thing.
Tane finishes to smother the fire, and Enev is waiting for an opportunity to strike the shadow
Tane Perception: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (18) - 4 = 14
Takeshi's perception, DC 12: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

Takeshi Kitano |

Takeshi looks around, confused. He drops his arrow, fumbling while he is trying to slide his backpack to the ground and look for something inside.

Tane Norwind |

Tane burns himself on whatever is in the fire and lets out a yelp between coughs.
Now that the fire is out, Tane uses blanket to scoop up the metal object and withdraw from the room. Once out of the room he drops whatever the object is, the blanket, and collapses to the floor in a coughing fit.
Sick to his stomach he says, "There was. Something in the. Fire"
He puts his hand to his mouth as if somehow it will prevent him from wretching. He coughs some more and shakes his burned hand. He groans in pain.
"Pits. Undead. Smoke. Fire. Feeling really. Heroic."
Cough, cough, cough.
"What is. THAT THING?! I think it. Tried to eat. ME."

DM Lil" Eschie |

You all manage to get out of the room, but Tane must dodge the shadow's first....
Shawdow's touch AoO: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Tane Acrobatics to avoid AoO, Dc 17: 1d20 + 3 - 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 - 3 = 20
STR dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Still clutching the small blade in his burned hand, the fighter manages to feint the undead, perhaps because it was distracted by something
I put you all into the dead beetle's room

Malya Vardigan |

Mayla coughed getting the smoke out of her lungs. "We should leave *cough* alone until we are prepared for it."
Looking up at each of them and then stares past them at the smoke filtering out of the room. The glint of the blade caught her eye and would look at it for a moment then watched to make sure the strange creature.
"Anyone know what it was?"

DM Lil" Eschie |

Know Religion, Malya: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Know Religion, Enev: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Know Religion, Takeshi: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Considering Malya's roll and Enev as help, that's will give you more info on the shadow (total 21)
Now that you are no more attacked by the undead creature, you have some time to think.
As far as Malya knows, and from what Enev recalls, shadows are in fact immune to all nonmagical attack forms, as they are incorporeal. And even magical weapons or spells don't hurt them as much as they should.
As Undead, they are immune to anything that hampers a normal body (like disease, poison, sleep and stun effect) or twist the mind (charms or morale effect).
Incorporeal creatures take half damage (50%) from magic weapons, spells, spell-like effects, and supernatural effects. Incorporeal creatures take full damage from other incorporeal creatures and effects, as well as all force effects (as Magic missile or Ghost touch weapons. I would think that positive energy healing spells won't be affected by this 50% less damage, but that the bonus for channneling resistance will apply

Selene Vosmus |

"Im sure with our magic Essa, Malya, and I can handle the thing, but we need to to be able to see. We can come back later or wait until the smoke has cleared. Selene suggested.

Essa Dwae |

"That seems like a good idea. I think I will be coughing up black gunk for days."
Assuming we wait a few minutes to recover from nausea, and let the smoke dissipate.
"I will cast shillelagh which will make my club magic, and maybe allow me to hit it. I think its shadowy-ness will still probably be troublesome. I can also enchant Roguk's claws to strike at it, as well as cast faerie fire on it to prevent it from blending into the shadows so well. I don't have anything that can help with its lack of body. Hopefully we get lucky."

DM Lil" Eschie |

Takeshi Perform, Msw violin: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 8 + 1 = 24
As Takeshi's beautifully sad music fades away, you realise you have more or less lost track of time.

Tane Norwind |

Tane listens to everyone speak and nods. He stands and tries to brush off the smoke with no avail. "What can I do?"
He looks down at the dagger in his hands and asks the group, "I found this in the fire? Who throws perfectly good daggers into the fire anyway? Maybe it is a special dagger to use against the, uhm, what did you call it? Shadow thing?
Tane studies the dagger, turning it over in his hands.
Appraise: 1d20 ⇒ 7
"It's too scorched by the fire I suppose."

Malya Vardigan |

Mayla would cough up the last of the smoke and listens to Takeshi play. It was a beautiful haunting song and it drew her away from everything for a little bit.
Shaking her head once it was done she would look at Selene and Essa. "I only have a scroll, and one burning hands. My other spell is worthless in our current situation. My Lotus Shield should help us thought and taking a defensive stance to keep it from touching us. We may have to wait until tomorrow."
Shifting slightly she would look over at the blade. "That's a pretty blade." Moving over she would notice its not damaged by the fire.
Appraise: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
"I couldn't tell you how much it is worth but, let me check to see if it has magic on it."
She would cast detect magic on it. If anything she would want to keep it because it looked nice.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19

Tane Norwind |

Tane holds out the blade so Malya can work some fancy stuff on it, completely oblivious to how magic works.
He adds, "It's clearly full of lots of magic Malya. See how it was scorched by the flames, I think it's full of, uhm, you know, magic stuff."
Tane nods, satisfied with his answer.

Malya Vardigan |

"This blade is magical actually. Enhanced for better balance and sharpness. It makes hitting with it easier and it will bite into enemies causing a bit more damage." She told Tane. Her eyes wonder and she sees Takeshi's violin.
"Takashi can you hold perfectly still and hold your violin in place?'
IF he does so she will examine it without touching it to respect Takashi. "It has a beautiful magical aura on it that flows."
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

Tane Norwind |

Tane nods along with Malya, "Oh, right. Balance and Sharpness. I just knew it was magical all along!"
He holds it up and looks between everyone, "So how does one use a magic dagger? I've never had the opportunity to use one. You probably speak to, right?"
Tane cradles the dagger gently in his hands and speaks calmly to it, "Hello magical dagger, I am called Tane. Show me how to use your balance and sharpness for the uh, the uh, the greater good and we shall work well together."

Essa Dwae |

Essa grins because Selene was laughing, but what Tane did seemed perfectly reasonable to her, she just didn't want to admit it openly.
"Tane, I think you will be a great help against the shadow."

Takeshi Kitano |

"Euh.. Sure," Takeshi says as he holds out the violin and casts detect magic onto it aswell. His eyes light up from the spell, but there is something else. He seems to be counting, silently, up to four, several times.

DM Lil" Eschie |

Then a bard, and bard only, can use the violin for a Bardic performance and affect the unliving (Fascinate and Distraction for Takeshi so far), even if they usually are unaffected by mind affecting spells or abilities

Tane Norwind |

Tane perks up at the comments from Essa and Selene. A huge boyish grin stretches ear to ear.
I did it! Ha!
Tane looks down at the dagger and asks, "Do you mind if I call you Shadow Slayer?"
After a moment of silence Tane nods, "Alright! Let's go kick this shadows butt. Err. Does a shadow have a butt? Whatever, you know what I mean. I'm going to use Shadow Slayer here to help teach him a lesson. Are we ready?"

Malya Vardigan |

Mayla would study the Violin. "Takashi, your violin allows you to use your bardic magic on the undead. Not only that You can use it to create imaginary sounds at will."
Looking at the others. "My magic covers an area. So you will need to be out of it."

Essa Dwae |

It may be hard to keep an eye on it since there is a little corridor to the room, but Essa will cast two spells immediately before entering the room to maximize duration. Magic Fang on Roguk from a scroll, and then Shillelagh on her club right after, and then we charge in. She will then cast faerie fire on the shadow when entering.
"It doesn't seem to want to leave the room, is it possible we can take advantage of that? Do you think we can lure it to the furthest it will move within the room and attack it somehow from safety from the hallway perhaps? If it can move through walls, it would have attacked Roldare by now, so maybe it is bound in some way to the chamber. We could test it by running in and seeing if it comes towards us and then running back out and seeing what it does." Not sure how this works mechanically, since running in, waiting half a second and then running back out if it moves toward you seems more of a judgement call to split an action in two pending another event, and if it spurs combat and initiative, the person running in could get caught testing this if strict game mechanics are followed. I hope this isn't too meta-gamey :)

Malya Vardigan |

Mayla looks at the others. "Why don't we let Takeshi try to distract it. The violin lets him do so. I think it would be the smart way. Let him hold its attention while we all get in position around it?'

DM Lil" Eschie |

Recap:
Essa cast Magic fang (1 mn duration) on Roguk then Shillelagh (1 mn too) on her club.
Enev try to get the attention of the Shadow (total defense).
Tane will try to stab it with the magical dagger.
Takeshi will (perhap ) try to distract the shadow with the magical violin.
Malya will use a spell (Burning Hands?)
Selene?
Sounds like a good plan to me.

Tane Norwind |

Recap:
Essa cast Magic fang (1 mn duration) on Roguk then Shillelagh (1 mn too) on her club.
Enev try to get the attention of the Shadow (total defense).
Tane will definitely stab and kill it with the magical dagger and become a hero of legend.
Takeshi will (perhap ) try to distract the shadow with the magical violin.
Malya will use a spell (Burning Hands?)
Fixed that for you.

DM Lil" Eschie |

When you come back intot the room, the air is clear again, and you notice a chimney up above the ceiling. But the shadow is well hidden...

Round 1 only Selene, Takeshi and Enev see the shadow coming. And only Selene and Enev can act before the undead, then Takeshi. Round 2 Selene/Tane/Enev-Shadow-All the others

DM Lil" Eschie |

Enev Bluff: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20 vs Shadow SM: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Is it really he sound of the noise of the sword clanging on Enev's shield, or is the shadow hungry for the holy warrior's strenght? Maybe she finds him a worthy foe, or she mistakes him for an easy, diminutive snack...
No one will probably know, but the shadow's attention is focused on the paladin.
Selene can make her touch attack vs AC 12, as the shadow loses her Dex and Dodge bonus to AC, and can flank the undead

Takeshi Kitano |

Takeshi plays the violin, its eerie sound reflecting across the walls.

DM Lil" Eschie |

Botting Selene to speed things, surprise round
Selene rushes to the shadow attack... but unfortunatly misses it, wasting her spell.
Touch attack, flanking: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 2 = 5
CLW dmg: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
The shadow didn't even notice the failed attack, and try to drain Enev's strenght
Shadow vs AC 16 (Touch+Total defense): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
But the quick halfling escapes the undead touch.
Takeshi starts playing his violin
Shadow will save vs Fascinate, DC 14: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
The shadow stands still No attack next round unless hit first, end of surprise round.
Round2
Selene casts her curing spell again, and tries to touch the shadow
Touch: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
There's only silence, but deep in your souls you hear the unholy creature screaming in pain... And just after Selene, Tane slashes the shadow with his magical dagger
Naughty Tane forgot his +3 STR bonus to dmg and ought to be spanked.
Init: Enev, the shadow, and the others

DM Lil" Eschie |

I honestly don't know, I'm trying to find the rules about it.
(later)
Gotcha!
Touch Spells and Holding the Charge: In most cases, if you don't discharge a touch spell on the round you cast it, you can hold the charge (postpone the discharge of the spell) indefinitely. You can make touch attacks round after round until the spell is discharged. If you cast another spell, the touch spell dissipates.
Some touch spells allow you to touch multiple targets as part of the spell. You can't hold the charge of such a spell; you must touch all targets of the spell in the same round that you finish casting the spell.
So Selene used only one CLW, not 2

DM Lil" Eschie |

Shadow sense motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
This time, the fading shadow doesnt buy Enev's attempt to distract it.
Target 1 Enev 2 Selene 3 Tane: 1d3 ⇒ 3
Enraged at Tane's attack, the shadow tries to engulf him
Come to the dark side.. (we have cookies!): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
STR drain: 1d6 ⇒ 2
The warrior muscles tetanize as the cold touch of the shadow partially destroy their vigor
Init: Essa (Shillelagh), Malya, Takeshi, Roguk
