Nice!
Pretty much my favourite series...been playing since the first two.
Me too!
Still playing today ... Tale of Two Wastelands

Kevros Droverson |

Actually I go way back to the original Wasteland game...on the commodore 64!!!
Neat mod there tho, might give it a go :)
I have both Wasteland 1 (re-clocked for today's computers) and 2 and I rolled up a character for The Morrow Project which was actually the inspiration for both Wasteland and then later Fallout. I am still dying to play this game but I have yet to find a PbP or even a PnP game.

Kevros Droverson |

No problem, get well.

Tristan Morgan |

yep no worries :)

Quince Medvyed |

Hope you feel better.

Kevros Droverson |

No worries, thanks for the update.

Kevros Droverson |

Checking in to see how everyone is?

Kevros Droverson |

Hangin' in there, been busy lately in real life.

Tristan Morgan |

Doing well, hope the same for all.

Quince Medvyed |

Doing good here. Hope things are good all around.

Kevros Droverson |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Man, I hope the honeymoon has been this long ... LOL

Tristan Morgan |

yep, checking in.

GM Wolf |

Wedding, check. Moving in, ongoing. Summer job, found. Free time limited.
Nonetheless I am back now and plan to be posting at least once per day. Sorry for being away for so long but as you can tell from the list above I have been very busy and my internet limited. Who is still interested in this game?
I really want everyone to be onboard and hope we can continue soon!
Ha! I wish the honeymoon was this long. It was a week down in Las Vegas , one day we got to see the Grand Canyon in all its glory. If you want to know I can give more details of all the craziness I have been doing.

Quince Medvyed |

Congrats, Welcome home, keep up the good work.
Glad to here you are with us.

Quince Medvyed |

I did not want to slow the game play with more business discussion.
I believe one of the letters I need to send is to my mom and see if a priest and some woodsmen can be sent.
Do we want to have whoever goes to deliver the letter for the carrier bird to also seek for some who might want to help us here or at the temple.

Quince Medvyed |

I know we want to rebuild the temple.
There are hexes on the map to the east of Oleg's and south that we have not explored. And there are many hexes in the swamp/forest that we have not explored.

GM Wolf |

Lol, I just made the in game post before reading the discussion thread. I am fine with each member of the group making two messages each. The content of the letters can be discussed here. You can make more messages but that would take another day at least.
More of the present discussion in the gameplay is fine, but I don't want to progress much more until everyone has checked in.
Feel free to have discussions with other NPCs and PCs around Oleg's. Please also check over the documents for this game.

Tristan Morgan |

I'm here was away for the weekend. Reading game play now.

Kevros Droverson |

Still waiting on Tristan. For some reason I thought there were more than the 4 of you.
There was :-)

Are you looking for in character messages or just basic notes on what we are intending to send?
I can come up with exact text if that is what you are looking for but I think at this point I wanted to send word my mom to see if she could convince Jern (or someone trustworthy priest of Erastil). Gravy would be some woodsmen who want to help clear it out (also trustworthy).

Quince Medvyed |

I noted that we have a lot of LOOT on the spreadsheet. I am assuming that has not been liquefied?

GM Wolf |

The loot has not been liquified but give it a week and if the right wheels get moving you will easily have some requests fulfilled. So you might send a request for a few specific or generic magic items that each of you want as you send the loot.
I would love to have some in game messages made but will not require it. The request done this way has a greater chance of success as well as a bonus going with it. Basic notes work as well. So hopefully I see some notes, 2 from each of you, in regards to messages you will be sending.
Quince has given an excellent basic note for example:
I send word my mom to see if she could convince Jern (or someone trustworthy priest of Erastil). Gravy would be some woodsmen who want to help clear it out (also trustworthy).
If you are confused at all please say so. I will be moving the exploring along, you may still have discussions either under a spoiler=Messeges&Such or just here in the discussion thread.
Tristan thanks for checking in and take us along now. Where is the group heading?

Tristan Morgan |

ah no notes to send, dead parents and no contacts. Oleg was who my parents dealt with. :)

Kevros Droverson |

Sorry all, busy at work and at home but that is all quieting down a little. At work, I had PCI and now it is a complete refresh of our Remote Access DMZ with many different flavors of VPN outbound to the internet and DMZ extensions into our LAN through GRE Tunnels or Reverse DMVPN without IPSEC. In addition, at home, I upgraded to Windows 10 with only (3) minor issues and the last one is almost fixed. And I caused another issue by setting my resolution too high for my monitor on my Windows Server which I had to recover through RDP and Regedit .... LOL. Live and learn ... :-)

Quince Medvyed |

OMG

Ah....progress.

Tristan Morgan |

Nope I'm here every day. As said Tristan has no one to send messages too. We are exploring the next hex around the temple or that hex if we didn't I was waiting on you to move things along :)
Edit: I guess my last post wasn't as clear as I thought. Tristan recommends the searching. Making new GP post now.

Kevros Droverson |

I am here every day too but didn't see anyone post to being on the trail, everyone rewound to before the trail.
As for messages, my only concern was delivering messages via bird in the future and getting a contingent for the Temple of Erastil.
And I must admit, I need to get my Kevros hat back on after the break.

GM Wolf |

Good to know fellas! I will try to make a message of some kind if I don't make an update.
I have a few questions:
So how much gold are you willing to put out for guards?
Anything else in your letter Angeus to your old fencing tutor?
What grade of falconer did you want to buy? 1 sp/day, 3 sp/day, 1 gp/day, or 3gp/day
Quince anything else you added in your message?
Is there a diplomacy check or something going with the message for a merchant to help liquidate your assests?
A few things to keep them straight:
Jhod still does not know where the temple is located. He waits for the guards. He looks depressed.
Kestan stays at the outpost with three of his men. The fourth is running your messages by horse. It will probably take him a week to get back to Restov.

Kevros Droverson |

1. Guards - any devoted Erastil followers so we can acquire good guards for cheaper in price? And what is the break down? Also, if we decided to go with devote followers and pay them standard guard wages, how much better would they be.
2. Please provide the break down on Falconer, what do we get for the price?
3. Quince, please add some diplomatic flare to our message(s)? :-)
4. Does anyone at the Outpost know where the Temple besides us. If not, are the wardens comfortable that we give Jhod a map on how to get there?

Quince Medvyed |

Good to know fellas! I will try to make a message of some kind if I don't make an update.
I have a few questions:
So how much gold are you willing to put out for guards?
Well I assume for guards we are looking at Trained Hirelings.
Trained Hirelings are 3 sp a day. Which hits just over 2 gp a week (2.1). If we offer 3gp a week we can hire a 16 hirelings for less than 50 a week at 150% market rate. So we can expect high quality and offer a premium (hazard pay). This is roughly 2600 a year. Does anyone know how much we are already paying those who are at Oleg's (are we even paying them)?
What grade of falconer did you want to buy? 1 sp/day, 3 sp/day, 1 gp/day, or 3gp/day
This raises a lot of questions. Are we trying to send messages once or are we hoping to finance a Falcon stop so that we could send messages when needed?
If it’s a matter of sending messages may as well go with the gold standard 3gp.
If we are setting up a way stop in an existing system. We would want someone who would need to train and send falcons to all the other stations in the existing system we are a part of. So even if we are paying a premium wage. There would likely be start up cost which would likely be the very expensive expert falconer who could command 3gp/day and he would be busy catching, training and keeping many falcons.
Quince anything else you added in your message?
Dearest mother, We have begun our work in the Stolen Lands. Do not worry I have stout men and women with me and those of the Greenwatch Wardens have met any peril turning it away. We in the few short weeks I know right just 2.5 years have brought a number of bandits to justice and chased one of the bandit leaders from his own home. We do not know the face of the one who killed father but there are many bandits who have answered for their crimes.
It is quite amazing. We have stumbled upon a site sacred to the god Erastil. An impressive natural cave that has been embellished with stone carving right into the land itself, a great stag has been carved into the hillside around the cave. Even more one of our allies was healed quite miraculously in the waters of a spring at this temple. With such a great find we would be remiss to not see the sight cared for. From the funds that we have secured from the bandits we are hoping to see the temple maintained. My first thought was of my old tutor, Jern. As a man faithful to Erastil he would be moved by the sight. Second his good judgement and skill would be put to good use. He will not be alone and we plan to keep those at the sight protected and provided.
Because we need men and women we can trust we are looking also to hire on honorable, independent, woodsmen that are capable of hunting living in the wild and able to defend themselves and willing to defend others. We no longer have a large timber operation in the Stolen Lands but I know there were some of father's men who would chomp the bit to see the land, learn its ways and be a part of the future prosperity of the region as the bandits give way to honest folk. Jern would be a good judge of capability and capacity. Otherwise I know that you have resources that I can trust.
Lastly mother I must tell you there is one among our company, a woman whom I am growing quite close to. Finding her I believe to be a blessing from the hand of Erastil himself. She is beautiful and charming. She is at home in the wild and brave when we encountered foes. Father would have love her instantly and I am certain you will too. Perhaps when have time to travel north again you will have a chance to meet her. Who knows perhaps the lands of the Greenbelt will one day be secure enough for you to winter with us here. I pray that we can again see each other soon.
Is there a diplomacy check or something going with the message for a merchant to help liquidate your assests?
diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Assuming that we might know of a fair trader either at the Black Fur in Restov, or by speaking with Oleg, or returning to someone from the representative of the Swordlords who would be happy to see us doing business.
Also this begs the question of whether we are sending one guy with all our stuff off into the wild between here and Restove, or whether we are going to send Kestan along with others to protect the goods and money (which might be more than one person can carry). Sending several makes the most sense, doesn't it?
Do you want me to write up a latter to a random trader or are we good with the diplomacy check in the hopes of a 20% discount as a good haggling starting point.
A few things to keep them straight:
Jhod still does not know where the temple is located. He waits for the guards. He looks depressed.
I am assuming that once we have a few people picked who will be working with Jhod at the temple we will go with them to help get them set up. ??? But Quince would be happy to show him on the map talk through the necessary landmarks and even draw up a small map of the route for him for when the time comes.
Also this is an item in general after his discussion with Oleg about moving to the trading post to get away from the city life we might want to consider setting up a command post or operation center that does not rely on him. If he wants to avoid people beyond a few travelers now and again we might want to keep the forces we have their now in place and turn the Temple into our outpost (it is more centrally located). There are pros and cons but Quince would bring the issue up after Oleg's comments just to make sure we were not wearing out our welcome.
Kestan stays at the outpost with three of his men. The fourth is running your messages by horse. It will probably take him a week to get back to Restov.
sense motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
What is our sense of Kestan. Is he the person in charge of our followers and hangers on? He might have an idea of rangers or woodsmen (trained hirelings we need to hire).Understood.
I hope my asking a bunch of follow up questions is helpful and not annoying.
3. Quince, please add some diplomatic flare to our message(s)? :-)
diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13

GM Wolf
1. Can we get good guards for cheaper like actual followers of Erastil? It would be better that they were any way.
2. Let's go with the 3 gp a day Falconer for round trip regional messaging including Restov. I know it may take a while to get to that point system wide but that is my plan. As for real life, I have heard of round trip messaging but I am not sure if that is just between two static locations or one of those locations can be on the move. Falcons/Hawks have good eye sight and I have read that pigeons were used to send messages from the coast to ships at sea. Researching further, it appears that Falcon/Hawks could be made to home but in only short distances and they were mainly used to snatch homing pigeons out of the air. I prefer birds of prey because that helps mitigate some of the snatching but of course not all of it. Maybe the bird has to either be a hybrid pigeon/falcon if that is even possible through artificial insemination which I am not sure if the DNA/RNA are similar enough like in a Horse and Donkey to make a mule, or a Gyr Hawk and Peregrine Falcon to make a Gyrhawk which is favored by Bird of Prey Hunters for hunting birds and land game. Or a falconer with very intelligent birds of prey and one of us wears something to catch the bird's eyes when searching for us.
3. As for Jhod, that sounds good that Quince shows him on a map. But we tell him to wait for the guards from Restov.

GM Wolf |

Sorry guys life has been really busy and I was not able to get a response until now.
1. Devote worshipers would be a better choice but would cost the same as any guard unless you want devote temple guards of Erastil which would likely be Rangers or Druids. Quince has the run down correct for pay and the guards being hirelings. Presently the guards at Oleg's are from Restov and stationed at the cost of Restov and partially Oleg.
You could get cheaper guards that are worshipers of Erastil, but then you run the chance of having just peasants/commoners rather than warriors. Hirelings is your best bet at the moment.
No one else knows how to get to the temple besides the Wardens.
Letter for the merchant is waived.
Oleg begrudgeoning says 'that he wants more folks around. It is fine, to use the outpost as a staging area. It is safer that way for everyone.'
The many questions is helpful and welcome, it helps with everyone's understanding!
Kestan does appear to be well in charge of the prisoners and the outpost without being overbearing to Oleg. He might know a few interested fellows in Restov. Oleg would be the one who knows the locals.
2. Falconer at 3 gp/ day. This will get you a low level expert who knows his trade. In likely 3 weeks he will have 3 Falcons ready to deliver messages to Restov. The fourth week he will send a falcon with you which will ferry messages from the Stolenlands to Oleg's.
3. Jhod will wait for the guards with the landmark descriptions and General map directions.

Kevros Droverson |

What do the wardens think of this?
1. Best Guards for the Temple since it is both a Tactical Location, cures the vine disease and a potential established Temple for the region that we help restore.
2. The Falconer at 3 gps a day?

Tristan Morgan |

Sounds fine.

Kevros Droverson |

Quince and Angeus?

Quince Medvyed |

Quince rolled a really high knowledge nature and I have no idea how to answer Kevros' question. I will need some info from the GM one way or another if I have a good answer.

Kevros Droverson |

LOL, no for the Guards and Falconer :-)

Quince Medvyed |

Oh that! Yes I am cool with your assessment.
