The party takes their positions hiding around the camp time seems to pass slowly as they lay in wait but eventually around late morning the bandits arrive, Olev has piled all the furs near the wagon. 5 men dressed green cloaks stroll in on horses with two empty horse trailing behind. One man with his hood up and a longbow on his back speaks
"It seems your being a good boy Olev, maybe we'll reward your good behaviour by not burning down your fort today" the man laughs cruelly, as they all dismount their horses and his men start loading furs on two the back of the two empty horses

Evard d'Garess |

Are we going to have a map, or should we narrate the encounter?
That said, we're waiting for Kalima's *very subtle* signal to attack
Evard took a post round the back of the stables. and meditates silently, waiting for the sound of the sorceress's attack.

Once Kalima sees the crowd of bandits get close to the goods she reaches out from the hay pile and utters magical words in Celestial. A vivid cone of clashing colors springs forth from her hand over the bandits (15 foot cone, Color Spray).
Each of them needs to make a DC 15 Will Save or they are unconscious, blinded, and stunned for 2d4 rounds, then blinded and stunned for 1d4 rounds, and then stunned for 1 round. Well so long as they are 2 hit dice or less.

Evard d'Garess |

Evard steps from behind cover, moving up to the Last remaining bandit and approaches the last remaining bandit. Be a good boy and drop your weapon he order.
If the bandit is more than 5' from Kalima, then he'll have to take a move action to get to her and Evard gets an AoO?
Lets get these rats tied up shall we Oleg?

![]() |

On her normal action Kalima stands up from the hay still covered in in the stuff and points her finger at the bandit. "Indeed. I am a MIGHTY Sorceress and if you do not surrender yourself you will meet a far worse fate than your fellows."
She readies an action to Heavenly Fire the man if he makes any aggressive movement.

![]() |

Lialda watched in absolute terror as three bandits fell to the floor, and then immediately found herself thinking how quickly it had all been over. Kalima was certainly a force to be reckoned with, Lialda just wished she wasn't so horribly aware of it, she stayed towards the back of the room, she was suspicious of the survivor and didn't really want to be near the bodies. Raegun's outburst surprised her so much that she found herself giggling nervously, apparently the half-orc was hoping for more of a fight!
"Don't worry Raegun, I'm sure these aren't the only bandits around here."
She was starting relax now, maybe this mission wouldn't be so bad? The last bandit was all but helpless now, though Lialda felt guilty for being of such little help.

Robert Jones-DM-King Maker |

The bandit throws his hands up in the air "I surrender! Please please don't kill me" he throws himself to the floor and clings to kalimas leg.
bluff: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
He starts crying "I have a wife and kids please, they forced me to join them or they would kill my family"
DC 20 sense motive to see this is a lie. Also you have 7 rounds to do what you like with the four unconscious bandits

Raegun |

Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 20 ... huh.
Raegun presses his boot on the bandit's back, glaring at him until he releases Kalima before pulling him up by the scruff of his cloak. "Grovelling and lies won't save you, pup. On your feet!" he nods to Darruth and Evard. "Somebody tie the others up, or slit their throats. This little pup is going to sing for me..."
Intimidate: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
"He's going to sing all about this little operation. And if I don't like what I hear I'll feed him to my hounds. If not I say we hand him over to Oleg. Who knows, maybe he's the merciful type." Raegun spits, face inches from the cowering bandit. "Start talking!"
As a cleric of Calistria Lialda probably has more experience tying people up... but that's probably not going to occur to a lummox like Raegun.

![]() |

Kalima stands down and says to the other PC's, "I suggest you all get to disarming these ruffians and tying them up. They won't be out for too long and I am looking to avoid a fight with them. Our first course of action is to make sure they are unable to resist."
Kalima does not bother to sense if the man is lying to not and sticks to the task at hand. There will be plenty of time to time to talk when the bandits are suitably restrained. She begins disarming bandits and binding them with rope. Once she is sure the bandits have been restrained and disarmed, she pulls out a dagger and waits for them to wake up from their major colour trip.

Darruth |

Darruth goes around taking away the bandits' weapons and put them inside the wagon for the time being.
To Raegun: "Would it be better for us to interrogate the leader instead of this lout? We might know more about his group if get out of him."

![]() |

Lialda helps the others disarm and loot the unconsious bandits, she knows how much pain they'll be in when they wake up, but she's good at knots, and realises they are better tied up than a continued threat to anyone. Her expert hands glide quickly over the rope, it's been a while, but some things you never forget.
She looks over to the grovelling bandit, and says kindly;
"It's okay, we wont hurt you, if you can just help us out a bit. Your name would be a good start? And perhaps a bit about yourself, where you live? How many more of you there are? Why you need to ransack this place?" She eyed Raegun carefully, he looked ready to tear the mans throat out,
"We don't want to hurt you, just like I'm sure you didn't want to hurt our friends, we just sometimes act rashly when we don't have a choice. Right?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

![]() |

Kalima has the bandits lined up before her and cleans herself with a number of uses of her Prestigiation spell. She waits until they come to consciousness and out of their stuper and stands before them in a noble stance befitting her station.
"It appears that you have all awoken from your lovely nap but your current circumstances are quite dire I am afraid. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Kalima Raustald of the noble family of Raustald in Taldor. Still despite my nationality I also linked by blood to House Orlovsky of Brevoy so I thus have ancestral links to these lands. In addition I bear the power of Holy Elysium in my veins, power enough to command arcane forces beyond your comprehension. As for the others around me, they are proficient warriors and holy individuals and with but a command could easily end your lives so it would be in your best interests to be civil in your interactions."
She gives a moment for their situation to sink in before she continues
"Anyhow let me get to the point of this. All of you are bandits, vagabonds and brutes guilty of numerous crimes against the Dragonscale Throne. Obeying the laws set forth by the regent we have every right to execute the entire lot of you by rope, sword or the headsman's axe. Fortunately for you I am the sort who favours punishments that redeem criminals. A living person can make something of their lives. A dead criminal is just another unmarked grave upon the land. So I am giving you this one chance to make something of your lives. I hope to help make Oleg's Outpost a proper settlement but to do so we are in need of men and women willing to put in the labour to better these lands. You of course must be punished for your crimes and thus you will be indentured to Mr. Oleg until such a time you work off the debt owed to him. After working off your debt or when Oleg decides to give you your freedom I am hoping you will stay on and help the outpost prosper. Indeed I am sure you know well the dangers of the Stolen Lands. We will need men who can fight to defend this outpost against the threats of kobolds, goblins or other monsters that roam these lands. And if you serve well you will live well and make something of your lives and profit far more than you ever would in a life of banditry. So I put the choice to you. Will you make something of your lives and help make this outpost a haven for the civilized races or will we hang you high right now for the crimes you have done?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28

Evard d'Garess |

sorry, hectic weekend and long days at work
slight ret-con
Evard makes to assist in binding the unconscious bandits, but Lialda seems to have it well in hand, so he remains guarding, Glaive at the ready watching for any moves. Take this one inside before the others wake Evard says, regarding the Bandit that did not fall unconcious. Learn everything you can from him but don't let the others know he is still alive or helping us. We can compare what he says to their answers
That way we have two stories to compare. one from the guy who's afraid of Raegun, and the other from the group.
Evard listens as Kalima gives the bandits their choice and says, Answer the ladies honestly. This is your chance at mercy. You will need to tell us who your leaders are, and how many there are among you for a start.
Sense motive: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

Raegun |

"We don't want to hurt you, just like I'm sure you didn't want to hurt our friends, we just sometimes act rashly when we don't have a choice. Right?"
"Oh, please..." Raegun spits, rolling his eyes, maintaining his grip on the frightened bandit. He nods to Evard and drags the man into the stables. "Come along, girl."
He throws the man into a pile of stinking straw, dogs padding behind him. He stands in front of the door, arms folded. "The lady asked you a question, worm!"

Darruth |

Quess I will stay with the girls
Gingerly playing with his crossbow, he eyes on the awaken bandits for anything that might cause more trouble.Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Really sorry guys i find it hard to post on weekends because I need access to the books to know what to put thanks for baring with me
You line up all the bandits and your good adventurer, bad adventurer routine gets the grunts talking they happily start to spill everything you get the feeling they would tell you their childhood secrets right now if they could but just as they starts to say the location of their base suddenly the hooded one speaks up. Bandit Leader
"Any of you worthless dogs talk and the stag lord will have your head"
Intimidate: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
The men look at each other and then the party
"We work for the stag lord, we have to steal to earn our keep and stay at his fort"
"You worthless worms when they come for us you'll be the first ones they gut" The leader shouts
But the men seem more afraid of the party than him and continue to explain the location of the base "If you head south about 70 miles, you'll come across a fort it belongs to the stag lord he is a very nasty and strong man and has lots of men there so I wouldn't recommend attacking him with out an army"
The bandits seem more than willing to join the settlement and help work in Olegs out post but the leader simply spits in Kalimas face
"There is only one I'll serve in the stolen lands and if you don't let me go he will come here and take your head's or perhaps if your lucky he'll let you be my little whore and you can serve me for the rest of your days" he smiles evilly at Kalima as he says it.

Kalima takes the spit in the face. She gives a glower and then zaps the Bandit Leader with a blast of Holy Fire (I probably can't miss him considering he's tied up and helpless). A blast of white energy hits him doing 1d4 ⇒ 3 divine damage for his insolence as it burns at his evil soul.
It probably does not burn the ropes considering it does no damage to objects as far as I know.
She wipes off the spit from her face with a handkerchief and then says, "Stand where you are at PEASANT! How dare you insult me with such a boast! I knew at least one of you would not accept a chance at redemption. It appears that we will have to make an example of you. By the laws of the Dragonscale Throne, I sentence you to death by hanging. May the pit of hell accept your blackened soul."
"Hang this man." She says to the other players and Oleg.
She then looks back to the others. "So this Stag Lord is the leader of the Bandits is he. Well suffice to say in the future he shall pay for his crimes. As for your fellows, if they are cival they will be given the same opportunity as yourselves. A chance to redeem their wicked ways and help make these lands a haven for civilization."
She looks at Oleg, "These men are under your watch now. Put them to whatever tasks you need them to do for the Outpost. They are yours until such a time they have worked off the debt they owe to you. Until then I hope to see that they are fed and provided a place to sleep. However there are more bandits out there so I reserve the right to take one of these men and put him under my charge. We'll need his knowledge of the surrounding lands in order to find where they are hiding."

Evard d'Garess |

Evard places a hand on Kalima's shoulder. Back in familiar territory already he turns from the prisoners M'lady, we must retain our composure. You hold the man's life in your hands and he has no power here. He is desperately clinging to the control he is fast loading and seeks to goad you. To not feel as helpless as you have rendered him. his monotone is not condescending but more an attempt to call and stem her upset.
He then turns back to the captives, Now then, the woman, two axes, a vicious disposition, and control over you wretched scum, you know her? watching the boss for his reactions.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

![]() |

Kalima looks to Evard calming down somewhat although she defiantly showed a fiery temper when provoked. She says to him, "Such a vile peasant that man is. But nonetheless he is too dangerous to let go. We will need a show of force to keep the other bandits in line. I have offered him mercy and he spat in my face. Now he will be the object lesson."

![]() |

Lialda winced as the man spat in Kalima's face, that was a mistake, and the firey girl responded in kind, although Lialda was surprised by what she said. "Peasant", and just what exactly did the entitled sorceress think the rest of the group were? Lialda hated people who considered themselves above everybody else just because they were able to trace their family trees, if her time in the temple had taught her one thing, it was that all men are the same. The second thing that Lialda thought was unusual was the fact that she had sentenced the man to death without even consulting the other party members, who did she think she was? However, it would not do to fall out with the girl in front of their prisoners, she was greatful, again for Evard's support.
" I agree with Evard. Who are we to decide whether this man lives or dies? Perhaps we should keep him here and send word to our contractors to come and collect him to be tried lawfully, in the City? What do you think Raegun? Darruth?"

![]() |

Kalima says to Lialda, "Apparently you have not paid attention to the charter Liada. We have every right to order this man's execution. The punishment for unrepentant banditry is death. I doubt the Dragonscale Throne has time to send people to fetch this man and take him for trial. This is an Outland settlement thus justice must be swift and decisive. Clearly he has admitted his guilt and I am sure Oleg can testify to the same. Still as Oleg is technically the martial of this outpost, I shall leave the decision to him."

Evard d'Garess |

As Lialda speaks up, Evard is grateful that they have stepped away for a moment to have their conversation not in front of the prisoners. He glances over, giving a gesture to indicate that he'd be there after this bit of business is dealt with.
Lialda mentioned not falling out in front of the prisoners, and I feel like discussions like that may be best had out of earshot.
If any of you have further information about this woman I would be glad to hear it he adds to the prisoners, opening up the question to them all to get his answers.

Robert Jones-DM-King Maker |

Escape Artist: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
As they all argue amongst them selves the leader struggles against his ropes
"She's evil pure evil we don't know where she camps she rarely comes back to base but Happs knows he visits her alot" one of the bandits tells you. you notice the bandit leader glaring at him for this statement

![]() |

Kalima turns back to the bandits "Who among you is Happs? I need to know where to find the rest of your fellows. And do not mind the threats of that man over there. The Stag Lord's days are numbered and one day I and my companions will defeat him. But for now the surrounding lands need to be brought to heel a task you can help I am sure. Would you not rather have your freedom than lick on the boots of a dirty man calls himself "Lord"?
Diplomacy 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28

Darruth |

@Liada "While I am for keeping him for further questioning, having to send a message to call someone to come and fetch a prisoner who is not a problem in there realm seems to me out of the question. They'll most likely tell us to do it ourselves and it is expected to have the bandit problem to be dealt by ourselves. Besides, it will be cutting out the middle man and it will bring about the same conclusion."
@Kalima "Happs might be that delightful man who spat at you."

Evard d'Garess |

You there, please stop your fidgeting. One may think you are trying to break out, and we'd have to move you for the safety of you, your companions, and the residents of this post. You've lost now where is she? Evard asks as he tightens the ropes on the hooded leader.
He motions for someone to take the weapons and lock them up.

![]() |

Lialda ignores Kalima's snide remark. She turns to Darruth and sighs,
"Perhaps you are right, at least logistically, I'll happily go along with whatever the group thinks is best. However I must voice my feelings that to kill a man for any reason other than self defense is wrong, and in my opinion would make us little better than criminals ourselves. If it is what the party agrees on then I wont get in the way, but neither I will endorse personally within the murder."
Her tone is tired and defeated rather than angry or argumentative.
She smiles politely at the pair and retreats towards Evard, she has made her point, but rising to an argument seems pointless. She looks at the tied men with pity, three sentenced to bed, board and honest work, one sentenced to death, all having commited the same crime, the only difference being that one had refused to appologise, even in the face of death. Lialda hoped that were she in a situation where she was asked to choose between her God and her life, she would choose her God, perhaps this man's Stag Lord meant similar things to him. She also worried that the three that had so easily given up their leader would not hesitate to change sides again once she and the group had moved on. Men with changeable minds, rarely only change them once.
She kneels in the dirt by the guilty man and looks into his face;
"I know you don't like me and my friends, you have very little reason to, but you must understand. They will kill you if you don't help us. I respect your decision to stand by your Lord, it shows great courage, but perhaps, you could tell us the whereabouts of your female friend?"
She braces herself for his reaction, if he has not been persuaded thus far, she does not expect that to change.
perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13

Robert Jones-DM-King Maker |

The bandits tell you that the hooded leader is in fact Happs.
As Lialda leans in closer to Happs he simply glares at her but when she mentions his female friend he seems to lose it once more, "I'll tell you something you ugly b!~$&" he shouts as he attempts to head butt her
Headbutt: 1d20 + 3 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 3 - 4 - 4 = 4

Raegun |

Raegun seems surprised once more that Lialda has remembered his name. Nonetheless he snorts. "I care not. But I expect there'll be plenty more where he came from." he says, sharpening his hatchet. "Restov sent us to do their dirty work, girl. Don't think they much care if it's pretty."
Unarmed Strike: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Damage: 1d3 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
As the squirming bandit attempts to strike Lialda the half-orc pulls him away from her, striking him with a vicious backhand. He growls, and with a glance toward the cleric slinks out of the stables. "I'll ready our provisions. Hurry up and put this dog out of his misery so we can scout out this fort."

![]() |

Lialda smiles sadly at the mans attempt to hurt her, he must be in so much pain, but there was nothing she could do for him now,
"Kalistria bless you." she says as she moves away, blowing him a kiss he clearly doesn't want.
She follows the half orc out of the stables, unwilling to stay for the death, but unable to get it off her mind. She wants very much to feel busy and useful, as so far she has felt little but in the way.
"Raegun? Is there anything I can do to help?"

Evard d'Garess |

Evard sighs, not really one with a talent for extracting information, he keeps watch over the prisoners. To the one that spoke up, he asks "do you have any other information about where she may be camped? The direction Happs goes to visit her?"
GM how long would someone have to wait before trying tu use Charm person on Happs and not have that +5 to his save? If we just lock him up and nobody threatens him for the time being, could we try to charm him? If he was friendly, A good liar could convince him that they were on his side and wanted to warn the woman about what was going on.

Robert Jones-DM-King Maker |

Blood trickles from Happs mouth after Raegun hits him, he spit outs the blood and smiles his teeth red with blood he taunts the half orc "Is that all you got orc? I heard your kind was meant to be strong, Your whore mother to hits harder than that"
The bandit shakes his head at Evards question "I do not sorry he is very good at covering his tracks in the wilderness and I've never wanted to follow him"
I'd say you can do it tomorrow morning for charm person without a +5 to saves, what you definitely going to do with all the bandits then guys?

![]() |

Kalima says quietly to the others "We need one of these bandits to be our guide in these lands. None of us are familar with this region and having a guide would be most useful to us. Besides I could use a manservant to deal with some of the menial labours that we may come across that a lady such as myself would not stoup low enough to perform."
She looks to the bandits and says, "One of you shall be given the honor of doing their penance in my service. You will be spared the back-breaking labour in Oleg's service and be allowed to travel with my group upon our grand quest to bring civilization to these lands. I shall make sure you are fed as well as earn a standard wage so long as you are in my service. You in exchange must use your knowledge of these lands to help the group and take part in any battles we may engage in. Does this interest any of you?"

Evard d'Garess |

Maybe we can have Lialda go for a charm at some point
With the other watching, hopefully Lialda keeps anyone from killing Happs prematurely, Evard finds Oleg and reports, Master Oleg, the bandits have all surrendered, save their hooded leader Happs. HE may have important information. Is there somewhere secure where the man can be locked away until he is feeling more cooperative? Evard asks.
He'll walk with Oleg back, gesture to the repentant bandits, These men are honest in their repentance, and we wish to give them a chance to forsake their thieving ways and earn an honest living. Should you accept their service, they will owe you their lives.
As it stands, none of you have a place with this so-called Stag Lord but have a chance to work here for Oleg. This is a one time offer of clemency so please take that to heart. If Oleg is ok with it, we can release the four that joined us, leave three, and take the most willing with us as a guide. I'm thinking we lock Happs up and try to get more info tomorrow.
Evard asks, Did you all have a camp near by here, any outposts or cashes between here and the fortress? 70 miles is a fair long trek.

Robert Jones-DM-King Maker |

Oleg lets you interrogate the bandits for a while and then comes over to join you all
"You can put these dogs in the stable for now if you like, but id rather dispose of the scum what's to stop them just taking over the camp at any time if they work here and what if that woman comes back for them. they wouldn't hesitate to but a blade through any of us" he looks over the party "But I owe you my thanks for what you did so I will respect your decision." he starts to lead the bandits towards the stables "What you gonna do with this one?" he says gesturing towards Happs

Raegun |

"Bah! Gut him and be done with it. We know where the dogs are holed up, we need only root them out."
He stocks up on supplies and saddles up his horse, a nervous jennet that seems to shy away from his touch, possibly stolen. "You can sit on your thumbs here, but I'm going to scout this place out..." he grunts, leading his horse roughly to the gates. "It's three days of hard riding each way and longer still by foot. The hounds have your scent." he says, roughly tearing away a scrap of Lialda's clothing. "We shall find you."
Perception for trouble: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Survival to avoid getting lost: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Raegun will turn back at the first sign of trouble he can't handle to inform the party, tracking them with survival (his hounds can aid another)

![]() |

Kalima Raustald nods to Raegun's suggestion for Happs and says to the group, "I agree with Raegun on this one. We need to make an example of one of these bandits or otherwise they will think us soft and may rebel at the earliest opportunity. Expecially if their former leader Happs is still around to give orders. In addition I want to have one of these bandits travel with us. We'll need someone who knows the region if we are to better explore what is in these lands."

Evard d'Garess |

Well, since Lialda's player sounds kinda out of commission, can we see if she can charm Happs now and get any info out of him? If the party doesn't think we should wait till tomorrow to interrogate him, keeping him under lock and key, then we can give the charming a shot and off-him.

![]() |

Hey guys, still here! Sorry it's been a busy weekend (I'm a musician, so it's often the way), but the good news is that as of this Thursday I'll be a free agent from uni, so I'll have a lot more time to post etc.
Lialda decides that Raegun is foolish and hotheaded, but she cannot blame him for wanting to move out, she would have preffered him not to tear her garb without her permission, but there is simply no reasoning with some men. She grabs his hand and wishes good luck to him before he rides off, and says a private prayer that no harm should come to him.
I know it's no help now, but she would've cast "A bit of luck" on him, which means he could re-roll his perception and survival checks that round if either of them weren't enough
She walks back toward the others,
"Wait," She interrupts as she realises the mans death is imminent, "There's one more thing I can try, it'd certainly work better if we could wait until tomorrow, but if you haven't noticed, one of our party has already left, and I suggest we follow him. I know a spell, that may make him friendly towards me for a while. While he is under it, it is of the up most importance that you do not threaten or attack the man, in fact, I think it is probably best that you do not make any contact with him at all. And if you must kill him afterwards, then so be it." Lialda maneuvers herself in front of Hans again, but this time not so close as to provoke him. She smiles broadly as she feels Calistria's energy within her and casts charm person.
"Now then Hans, I think we got off on the wrong foot, and you have misunderstood our intentions. We are looking for your female friend, but we don't mean any harm to her, we just want to talk, and make sure that she wont bother these nice people again, could you help us find her?"
Hans gets a saving throw (DC15) against charm person, probably at +5 (DC20) because of the danger he's in. If it works he sees Lialda as his ally, but we will probably have to make an opposed charisma check if he sees through Lialda's bluff about not hurting the woman.
Bluff: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Charisma: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

As your magic washes over happs his evil glare turns to a hapless smile. he grin stupidly at lialda. "Your pretty, I can trust you friend" he says grinning from ear to ear " You mean Kressle? oh you won't like her she is mean, but not to me. We are good friends. I don't know where to find her we normally meet in different places in the woods, she normally has one of her men give me a letter saying where. I'm hungry can we go eat?" he says grinning at you all

Evard d'Garess |

BOOM, now that's what I'm talking about! so lucky
"I'll go fetch food. But have you any of the letters? or know when another man is due to call for another rendezvous with Kressle?" Evard asks, making an attempt to smile pleasantly.
