Background:
Darruth grew up on the streets, living off the scraps and the money he stole and pickpocket. It was the life he knows and while he did not picked by choice, he enjoys this life. After all, stealing from right under the guards and disappear into the night never gets old.
At 15, he joined the one of the gangs, the Ravens, because he feels that he needs the back up a gang can provide when working alone cannot and having access to contacts that only work with professionals. He thought he had it made, but it came obvious later that all is not what it seems. A lot of the members were basically thugs who uses their muscle to get what they want from their victims. They are not smart enough to run the group though and he thank the gods for that. It's the leaders that has him start to question about his decisions. They are all ruthless in their planning and actions, all from their experience in working the underground. They would maim people who did pay their protection and kill any witnesses that saw them during their break ends and operations. The other members sees Darruth as soft for not going along with this, that this is the reality of working in the shadow.
The last straw that cause him to break is the last job he worked with one of the superiors, an elf name Matinal who was testing his loyalty to the group. The job was simple: get into the warehouse by the docks and secure the package for a client before the officials made their inspections and confiscate it. It went of without a hitch, until Darruth saws what the 'package' is. It was a young halfling girl, smuggled from to sold as a slave for one of the nobles in the city. He was against the idea of going through with this deal, but he was shut down by the elf who told him that he will be kicked out of the gang if he does not do as he says. Needless to say, the Ravens lost one of their own at the hands of the cat and the job was a failure with the officials knowing about the smuggling. Darruth ran out of town with only one place that they will not go after; the Stolen Lands.
