Good luck with the move. We are in the huge process right now. About two and half years ago, my step-daughter, son-in-law and grandson moved in with us. His business in Florida went under so they moved up here to restart. We are finally spliting households again and it is a lot of work. They are moving to a small house here in the Cascade foothills, and their move is almost done. Next week my wife and I get the keys to the condo we are renting in Seattle proper, so next week may be touch and go for me.

I know it is still very early for this, but as I will be out for a few weeks, I thought I would work on my concept for your Serpent's Skull AP. You mentioned that the ship concept would allow people with different backgrounds to meet. Hopefully my suggestion would fit in nicely.

So here it is: Brother Atheus, probably aboard under a different name. Based on the Bene Gesserit exploration I had a few weeks ago. Class would be monk (1 or 2)/inquisitor (the rest).

Let me know what you think. I might produce a full sheet later. If any of you have suggestions, they are certainly welcome.

Background:

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

The Litany of Fear of the Sheod Gebeth Order

As the winter that would become known as The Reaper in Cheliax grew in strength and bitterness, the people of the village of Aglaex, located east of the Barrowood, soon realized that their fate was sealed, unless they recieved help. Envoys were sent. Unfortunately, the winter was also striking their neighbours.

One day, dark emissaries came to the village, accompanied by men-at-arms protecting a big cart, covered by canvas. They explained that they wished to trade food for the whole village, a month’s worth, in exchange for seven kids of their chosing. The villagers were enraged. Threats, insults were thrown, some even attacked the emissaries, only to be dispatched quickly. The matriarch Deov Lesh pleaded and even begged the emissaries to demand something more palatable, to no avail. The villagers voted that night and sent the emissaries away.

But The Reaper was not done. Famine grew in the village, the temperature reached lows unheard of, and day after day, people died, sometimes infants. When the emissaries came back, a week later, fights broke between the villagers, but Deov Lesh brought them together and refused the dark offer of the emissaries. But Matriarch Deov passed away soon after, and a villager was sent to find them.

All the village’s children were lined up and were subjected to strange and complex tests. A week later, the emissaries left with the chosen kids, leaving broken families, filled granaries and shameful villagers behind them. Their bellies filled, the villagers changed their mind and ran after the emissaries, but never found them again.

The children were carried over long distances, to a monastery set in the Western Menador Mountains. For years, they were trained to forget their past and help forge a better future for Cheliax. The Sheod Gebeth Order is a secret society operating in Avistan to further the interests of Cheliax. their end game is unknown, but they focus mostly on espionage, protection of Cheliax nobility, fine tuning of rulers lineage through complex study of history, genealogy and occult prophesies.

The training of a Sheod Gebeth brother includes a strict regimen of roots, selected grains and insects. The martial traning is ruthless, and the brothers quickly become living weapons. As they advance in their training, they turn their attention to the hearts of men, learning the use of fear, the reading of subtle signs giving them insights akin to reading minds. Finally, the brother learns to focus his will, his faith in a grander scheme, a grander order, to achieve feats and manipulate the very fabric of reality, expanding his ki beyond the self.

Brother Atheus never forgot his village of Aglaex, nor his grandmother Deov, whom he saw murdered by his uncle Gaddex one night. Nevertheless, he understood the bargain, as he understood his life now belonged to the order, at least for now. He trained hard, in part to survive, but also because somewhere inside him, he coveted the power that this new knowledge brought.

On a beautiful summer day, master Kalax brought them on a mountain face, to teach them the effect of their fear of height on their effectiveness in battle, and how to deal with it. Atheus did poorly, to the point where Kalax, infuriated with the novice’s performance, smiply pushed him off the cliff and left him for dead. Atheus, barely alive, struggled for three days, getting out of the crag and getting back to the monastery. Master Kalax was impressed by the boy’s perseverance and took him as his pupil. He received special training from his new master. He learned special techniques to cause further pain from his attacks, virtually exploding organs with his strikes. He also pushed his faith further, bringing it to new beliefs, and powers.

After months of discussion, after trials after trials, of the mind, of the heart, and of the soul, Master Kalax opened up to him: “Brother Atheus, the way of the Sheod Gebeth is to enforce the new empire of Cheliax. We are to be his secret arm. But the Sheod Gebeth also believes that the ties to the infernal are a boon to the nobility, and the lineage of the ruling families need to be carefully monitored and controlled to ensure the coming of a formidable ruler, all in accordance to the Prophecy, some say... But the Prophecy can have many interpretation, and its wording is twisted. I believe instead that the infernal stain must be removed form the lineages, but most masters would disagree, thus I remain silent and act in silence.”

“Brother Atheus, I need you to act as my agent, to subtly change the subtle acts of the Sheod Gebeth, and to bring a new Golden Age to Cheliax.”

And so it began. Brother Atheus was sent on many small missions of information gathering mostly, receiving coded messages from the Sheod Gebeth, but also from his master. He was mostly successful, but had to flee more than a few times. So it is that one day he embarked in haste aboard a doomed ship...

Hey guys, I did not have enough scratch to pay for my internet tubez this month. So in a fit of irony I can only post while at work. Today is my day off, over at a friends so not enough time to craft up a response but wanted to let you know. Shouldn't disrupt things too much

Corso / Dreaming warforged here.

Leaving soon. Here is my project for Atheus Teg, perhaps related to the future Miles Teg, for those who read the entire Dune saga...

Have fun on your trip! I'm beginning to notice you like initiative...

May have you change one of your traits to a campaign trait, but I don't know what those will look like so just keep that in mind. We will know more when the guide comes out.

I can still post plenty, just not at nights or days off, until next Thursday.

Lol awesome Grizzly Adams and Gentle Ben. I hadn't made the connection till now :)

Initiative: another way of saying "Early bird catches the worm"... I also like skills. Every time I try figuring a character, I always go back to the one with skills.

No problem for the trait. Feel free to make more comments.

Leaving tomorrow!

Have a blast Warforged I am sure you will!

Safe travels!

have fun Corso! So does anyone want to connect your back grounds? I know it has been pretty fun thus far in KM, but it could be just as fun to come from every direction as well and develop the bonds on the ship which I am sure we will have plenty of time to do.

Summoner adjustments;

1) I've been totally screwing up the resummons after death. It's not just 'once / 24 hours,' it's also 'can't summon it again in the same day if it's dead.' So, anytime Ember croaks, he's gone until the morrow.

2) In APG release, the Summoner will no longer be able to keep his Eidolon out and use his Summon Monster SLA at the same time. One or the other. Mechanically, it would be more effective to use the SLAs until they run out, and then summon the Eidolon afterwards, to take up the slack after the SLAs are out, but Ember's already an established part of Servayn's character, and I'm probably going to keep Ember out until he gets killed, and then use SLAs for the rest of the day.

M Human Cavalier /1st

That makes sense to me though, you might even go with the option of dismissing him before he dies and then SLA it up. so he wouldn't have to die so much. I don't know how ember would feel about it, but it would save him from licking his burning wounds so much.

1) I missed that too

2) Yup, I saw that. I'm not worried about adding any changes to the classes until the book actually comes out. This change makes me a bit sad for the class because they're all about summoning, but I can understand the need for balance. As is after the first round you basically have seven attacks at level 1.

Looks like taking a week to explore the border and get your first look at the Stag Lord is a pretty good idea. Adams is a bit of a safe spot so long as you don't annoy him.

FYI if anyone dies and you get their body back to him within a week you can pay him for a reincarnate spell. Tried to drop a subtle in character hint for that.

If anyone is interested... Ox and I are also playing in a PbP here on the Paizo boards run by Nazard, and he is looking to recruit two new players (one melee person and one cleric/druid person). For some reason we've lost several players and I'm not sure why that is.

The thread so far is Arcadia - Land of Opportunity. The characters are now 2nd level, and so far we have just travelled across the ocean and make landfall on Arcadia. The characters are in their first day of exploring the land.

I've been wanting to play another melee character. See if he's interested, and lead me to the generation rules.

Arcadia OOC thread

That's the link for the OOC thread. The character building rules dropped off of the Gamer Connection board, so I'll see if Nazard can post them again.

RPG Superstar 2011 Top 4

Perhaps I will fidangle a druid as I seem to only be playing in one and a quarter games for now...

Go ahead and make avatars and post in the OOC thread. The DM just posted the character making rules there as well.

Do we know where we are at in the XP arc to third level? If we explore those hexes that are black along the west border heading south, then along the south border heading east to where we believe the Stag Lord's castle is, are we likely to hit 3rd level during that process? I know it is metagaming a bit, but I think Janku and Kalsgrim are both decided that we need to head that way and I haven't seen anyone post that their characters are actively opposed to that course of action. And I think we are going to need that 3rd level to have any sort of a chance against the Stag Lord in his keep.

I've been keeping an ongoing tally for XP in Clip Clops profile.

I don't know if those hexes would get you to level three... just maybe...

A big chunk of experience in The Stolen Lands comes from completing quests, dealing with the kobolds and mites, and the stag lord.

If you guys do get to the fort before level three it's not like you have to storm it right away, might just get a good look perhaps infiltrate or scout the interior a little and return at a later date.

We could always hoot and holler as we travel, to attract more wandering encounters. :)

I'm not sure how patient our good priest of Gorum would be with "scouting" and "infiltration". Of course, we could just be like "Have fun stormin' the castle! I'll be right with ya, just need to, um, tie my shoes here." Of course, with our luck, we'd get him reincarnated as a bugbear. Then there'd be no living with him! ;)

While Janku is impatient and easily bored with what he considers wasting time playing with animals, he is no bloodthirsty savage. He is more interested in the "Art of War" which includes infiltration and scouting. There is nothing wrong with fighting for fighting's sake, but it is much more rewarding to fight to win!!!

How many chipmunks would be have to slaughter to move up? What do you mean their CR is too low?!?

Male Daytona 500 DM / 12

How about dire chipmunks?

And I look at Janku as being the party's compass to not lose sight of why we are here. Sure, connecting with the locals is important, but there are genuine life-threatening menaces that must be dealt with. In some ways I think I've been playing Kal too timidly, though I have been trying to ramp up his aggressiveness as he levels up. I think the way you've been playing Janku is an awesome counterbalance to that.

Aggh. Nasal passages. Coffee. Don't think too much got on the keyboard there.... :)

Ah hahaha! Mah internetz are back on! Wahoooo! Runs around in the spraying internet

So, moving day is here. My contributions will likely drop off, perhaps completely, for the next couple of days while we are moving. We are reasonably well prepared, so I'm hoping to be back online later this weekend, but you know how that goes.

Could I get a Perception check from Servayn for the next hex?

M Human Cavalier /1st

*Pokes at paizo*

wake up!

RPG Superstar 2011 Top 4

Heh, I had a long night out didn't get home until 3 after ferrying my drunk friends around.

M Human Cavalier /1st

Ah the DD, a noble but exasperating task.

Yeah I lost one of them for half an hour and found him missing his shoes and shirt.

M Human Cavalier /1st

oh boy! lol. The worst I've ever had to do is to dive into a local river after a drunk friend skinny dipping that found himself lacking the skills to tread water. normally that wouldn't be so bad except for the particular lack of quality for a river. though I wasn't too found of dragging his naked arse out of the water.

Wait, what's that?! Noir!

Bet you guys are glad you doubled the watches now.

M Human Cavalier /1st

yeah... worked out great. =p

Seriously, at this rate Ox is going to become paranoid and start trying to conceal himself, during his watch.

at least my horse knows the score.

RPG Superstar 2011 Top 4

I think you need to get some new barding for Noir. Perhaps Oleg has already placed on order for some since there are so many new horse riders in the area?

Oh, also you forgot to level up Noir;
-Add 9 HP
-Will save +1
-Another skill point
-BAB increases by 1
-He also get's another feat from this list [Animal Feats]

M Human Cavalier /1st

Yeah, New barding would be good.

Ohhhh, I hadn't realised he got to level like the druid companions. Pour Noir. *gives Noir a power up*

M Horse, yeah yeah, I know the picture is a bull, but its closer than the pansy Unicorn or Pegasus that there were pictures of.

+9hp,+1 bab +1will,+1 stealth, +1 ac (dodge.)

RPG Superstar 2011 Top 4

Hurray, for the Slow Sat/Sunday Paizo board curse! Ox go poke your brother. I'm sure the others will be around shortly.

Cept for Kalsgrim and Corso, but I know what's up with them.

M Human Cavalier /1st

Did Garick not post that he was moving? He was supposed to have internet today, but it doesn't look like it happened.I'll bug him aboout it tomorrow, But I promise you if he could be on, he would be by now, I bet he is going crazy.

RPG Superstar 2011 Top 4

Nope I did not see anything about that. Kalsgrim was moving as well and Corso is biking to mars.

M Human Cavalier /1st

Yikes, I could've swore I saw something up about it...maybe it was different thread and I thought we were all aware...in that case it is my fault as I told him I would make sure you knew...

Sorry!

I'm back to work this morning, but I still don't have access at home. The new place is going to be great, some weeks down the road when we finish getting everything unpacked...

Had a long RL D&D session today so I'm going to hold off on auto-botting Janku and Lukasz until tomorrow night. Will move the round forward earlier as I'll be at work if I see them post. If not I'll do their stuff for them when I get home.

AC 24 (25) HP 30/30 AP 8/8

I saw Janku was last in initiative, so I was waiting before I acted. I'll post tonight. Got to catch a plane now.
