I think I'm completely good to go mechanically. Will I flesh out my backstory more? Maybe, but I won't change anything that's already established. Just add more.

Arrrg! Torn between standard rule-the-world cleric (aka vanilla cleric) and an Ecclesitheurge to really bring on the pain.

Your thoughts on crafting, scrolls in particular would help me decide.
There is a good bit of down time in this game how do you fee about players using this time for crafting and the merry hell PC crafting plays with WBL guidelines?

Also as a Neutral Cleric of a Neutral god the good father has access to *evil* spells. Notable among low level evil spells are the much beloved Desecrate and Animate dead. Any thoughts on PC creating skeleton armies?

Devon..., i'm getting a muscle twitch in my bow draw hand again. What is going on lately?

For what it's worth, I definitely don't worship Lamashtu. :P

Due to the increased interest and good work so far I am closing the dotting period at 5:00 PM PST (-8 GMT) TODAY AUGUST 7th. I will put up a finalizing post closing that phase to let folks finish their applications but I realized that I had left it open until later tonight and I don't want to create confusion.

If you think your application is complete feel free to pop in and note that and I will update my list so the players and I can start to chat about the apps that are done.

Thanks everybody.

Ra'hl is only a bloodrager. I posted his sheet earlier in the listing. The one in the profile hasn't been updated yet.

"Debts must be repaid dear lady. Do you think the Master of the first vault would let a little matter like death delay repayment?"

seriously though not focusing on the whole undead master gig. Too much record keeping. I am thinking more of recreational necromancy. Say a skeleton pet or a small squad of meat shields former bandits happily repaying their debts to society.

You know, I heard that if you give halfings elk antlers, they make great hunting practice targets.

:P

1. Scrolls are awesome. There is much down time, tis true and the party wizard will make mighty use of it himself.

2.I'll be honest, in my previous xp this AP plays merry hell with WBL because you get the resources of cities at one point. A good compromise in my experience is frank discussion with the players about making sure that a lot of that money is used for things "off screen" and a solid understanding of my GM philosophy that I haven't mentioned but this is a good moment to do so:

WARNING WALL OF TEXT INCOMING

I read a post once about somebody running a KM game who was complaining because basically the players made an atom bomb. Now some people respond to that by attacking the GM. WHY would you let them do that? WHY would you let things get off the rails?

Me? I'm more of a "Huh okay so what happens THEN" type of person-> the poster was worried about how to get things back on "track" with the AP. They wren't GMing "wrong" or "bad" they just made some choices or let the players do their thing. How is that "bad"?

My response was "who cares?" The AP is well and good but at the point they developed an atom bomb you are WAY off script and that is fine as long as your next reaction is; how would everyone else respond to that? The Sword Lords just take that lying down? No one in Numeria sits up and notices?

What I'm driving it is if players decide to hunker down and create a Warforged factory from Eberron in Brevoy's back yard I am just fine with that as long as everyone is clear that I expect the world to react. Spies will come to research it. Armies will come to take it. Powerful entities will come to destroy it. All that said I think there is a lot of fun in exploring what happens when a group gets more powerful.

I feel like a lot of folks can get worried about it and I sort of see it that sometimes a party just kicks the crap out a bad guy because they are way more powerful than the bad guy is expecting. That BBG pissed off the wrong people. "Whoops its winter and I tried to invade Russia" the BBG might say.

On the flip side I think that if a group of people attain power (especially quickly or with a lot of noise) then other people notice and respond. Dragon's wake up. Gods stir. A!@*~%% demon kings start wanting their piece of the action. I'm also not overtly antagonistic, maybe a group of wizards show up to join in, angels come to roost in the kingdom or something. I'm all about "interaction" I guess.

So anyway, WBL. Handy guideline. I think there are ways to handle it and sometimes that is simply to say "yup, you blew that guy up REAL fast" other times its to say "Well now a Storm Giant would like to have a word." Most of the time its "okay folks you have officially made one million gold pieces are you sure you want a huge magic spotlight on your 100 person city?" and we talk it out. That philosophy seems to jive with my players fine but I know it isn't to everyone's taste.

tl:dr I'm not too worried about it but I am pretty laid back and that is not to everyone's taste.

3. Abadar is a neutral fellow and he does have access but he also doesn't control certain portfolios that other gods do like say Pharasma. At the end of the day? Abadar probably won't care as long as its all in the name of the march of progress. Other people? Like the Inquisitor and Cleric of Erastil who have set up shop in the Greenbelt? They probably care quite a bit. This sort of thing can be really fun or really tense at a table. I think in some ways it is completely in keeping with a neutral character of a neutral god to have an "ends justify the means" approach to necromancy but this is also a world with objective good and evil and those evil spells are just as written on the label. Use at your own risk, as it were. PbP seems a better venue than most to have more "heated" in character debates but it still potentially will cause conflict which isn't inherently bad, it simply inherently *is*. :p

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Rulebook Subscriber

I got into the other I had applied to so will withdraw my interest, thanks!

I love that approach. I really hope I get in on this.

I'll let you discuss the antler idea with my 6 hit dice zombie eagle.

Dark Archive

I seem to have a problem, my alias can't be changed or an image added without being a pas character, and making me select a faction?

Undead.

True Abadar does not go into the dead horde thing. Bad for business, civilization and it annoys Pharasma.

But I could totally see Abadar making limited use of undead. No horde or even squad but Jakob Marley wrapped in the chains he forged in life? Yeah I can see the judge of the gods going that route.

Meh
Like I said not going heavily into undead the onyx cost adds up far too fast.

Wealth.
I have always found WBL a silly concept but then I cut my teeth back when you took what magic items you could find and liked it.

Flyn Rider wrote:

You can't edit an alias* with more than 10 posts and PS characters must select a faction. I'm guessing those are your problem. You can create another, not PS, alias though.

Unless, of course, I'm misunderstanding the issue.

Nope you hit it right on the money. Thank you so much for helping me, didn't know you could make an alias that was not PFS. Shows how much I know about this, I present Minerva.

Still need to work out her personality, as well as her physical appearance,

Not a problem, glad I could help.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Theodore, I just wanted to let you know that I really like your backstory. The goal to cleanse his face of the mark that he detests is a really cool aspect and a great hook.

Hey, I really appreciate the vote of confidence. XD

I hope the GM and original players feel similarly.

Hey if anyone has any comments, or suggestions for Minerva, she would love to hear them, especially from the GM.

Just voicing my interest. If there are still slots open I am rather interested in writing up a submission

@Conch - Well you got in before I closed the dot phase, you have a couple days to do the leg work. ;)

@Minerva/Alaric - I'm seeing NG but should be lawful? Mebbe I missed something...

I was wondering about the alignment, I didn't know whether the organization would be LG or NG. Either is ok with me what do you think Devon, I wasn't sure.

Oo! LN! LN!

The world needs more LN organizations.

Yeah your org can be either but as a monk you need to be lawful...

Wow, I completely forgot about the lawful requirement, I will fix that in a second. Do you have any other suggestions on my character.

No worries. Things are looking good I don't know that I have any feedback at the moment.

Looks like the time limit for dotting the thread has passed huh?
Found this thread just now and would really like to apply as well - you ok with me as a slightly latecomer?

I have played Kingmaker twice for a bit before my play groups disintegrated, but both times were not much further then half of the first AP. So no problem here I suppose.

Have two concepts that I could very easily revive.

Please note the following:

Due to the increased interest and good work so far I am pushing back the announcement date to Tuesday August 14th by 1:00 PM PST (-8 GMT)

There are a lot of great submissions already and some folks who expressed interest that will probably post more. I want my group to have time to give me feedback and we are stretched across the globe in this group so I was worried Monday would be too short with a Sunday night deadline and I don't want to cut folks short on polishing their submissions. I may still be able to announce before then but I wanted to give folks a more realistic firm date so that there are clear expectations.

Nope you are good, you got in before 5 pm my time so work on an app.

Dotting for interest before the dotting deadline. Tentatively thinking of a Swashbuckler scion of House Medvyed. Will have character profile together later this evening. Thanks!

haha, nice. just need to decide which of the two I shall reactivate.

GM Stuff:
You might have something to say here though that would ease the decision
One of them is a Changeling (Bard/Cavalier, going for Battle Herald). Her father, a minor noble was seduced by a shapechanged hag and now she is doing some borderlands work cause they don't exactly like her back home since her mother killed half the castle when she tried to claim her back.
You did say non-human characters should be the exception, but at least she mostly looks human :) And some fey influence sound fitting to me in these enchanted forests.

She was pretty much the leader of her expedition - holding the group of ragtag adventurers together with a semblance of authority after having recruited them herself for the cause. Fittingly they had an almost total party kill when they moved too soon against the big bad. We could just say she was the lone survivor of a rival group trying to join another so she doesn't have to return home in shame.

The other character is less of a problem. An annoyingly good-natured fighter (Aldori Swordslord aspirant) from the River Kingdoms, trained by a rogue Swordlord on the run from the authorities, searching for fame in battle and the chance to be king!

Sertaki:
Either is fine, there aren't a lot of front line fighter types being proposed and I confess that I have only ever seen one Cavalier in action. The Changeling wouldn't be an issue as you would be the only non standard race applied so far that I can recall. I was just trying to not have an entire party of rare races. It could be fun to consider that there might have actually been a previous expedition that was basically wiped out. We could put our heads together on fleshing that out if you are picked. Aldori types are fun too. Nothing wrong with good-natured. Its really your call. Annoyingly unhelpful I am sure. :-p

And Scene.

Dotting phase is CLOSED

If you are not someone who already expressed interest I appreciate it but no more newcomers.

Details to follow...

Final Date/Time for completed applications:
Sunday August 9th by 9:00 PM PST (-8 GMT)

Expected time for announcement of expected players:
Tuesday August 14th by 1:00 PM PST (-8 GMT)

To those of you who still have questions or tweaks I will do my best to come on and answer them but weekends are harder for me. If my ability to get online is so compromised that someone cannot complete an application I reserve the right to extend deadlines for those folks who are directly impacted.

That said, a good rule of thumb? I am game for it as long as it falls within the Paizo universe for the most part. Adjustments can be made if you are accepted and you can always note weird things on your apps and I won't hold it against you Much :p

I am reviewing using things like the Background Skills (that affect ALL players) and other items from Unchained but because the original players were not built that way, assume I am not using them until the entire new group can discuss pro/cons, etc. Unless you have heard otherwise from me directly.

Things that affect individual builds like Variant Multiclassing and the new classes are fine.

Anyone who is still pondering race or class selections (especially Occult Adventures) take the time to consider my initial recruitment note, that might help shape what you put forward.

Anyway, looking forward to everyone polishing up their apps, appreciate the interest and I will check back in a few hours to answer any questions. Good Luck!

Minerva's in combat role, is to make arrow pincushions. Her out of combat role, is a stealthy front runner, to scout out things.

Woah. Just getting back on the boards after them being down... 74 new posts!!

Will get Duska updated Devon. Good luck all :)

No worries DM. You've got quite a bit on your plate.

INCOMING NEWS FLASH: This just in for all potential applicants. Former GM and current player thestrongestangel will be either rebuilding or scrapping Aleria EagleEye for a full summoner build. (Right now the character is a hybrid summoner/archer). While details are sketchy at this time my sources tell me that this will be good news for skill and martial builds while also being a boon for character concepts that were being threatened by the "Angry Bow Wielding Erastialian of the Greenbelt" but who knows how the market will react...

In all seriousness I just wanted folks to know, from what I am seeing and hearing from applicants it really shouldn't change things much at all but if folks are basing their applications on where things are lacking I wanted to give you all time to pivot. Let me know if there are any questions or concerns.

Haha. Seeing as I'm a skill/martial build who was probably going to have some conflict with the Inquisitor, I will be changing nothing. :P

Mmm - Sweet news - this means I could possibly return to my original concept of Duska with Archery as her Combat Style...

Decisions, decisions... :)

EDIT: Gone back to Archery. Keeps the original concept of the character and provides some ranged support for the party (if selected).

Awwww I had prided myself in being the only archer. You might want to look at like I proved precise shot, or else your penalty for shooting into Melee is brutal.

Back Story:
--------------------
Markis Grainweaver was born to poor farmer parents outside of New Stetven in a village known as Dawn's Grove. Their lives impacted few and few people bothered them in return. This held true for the first few years of Markis' life. It wasn't until a local Lord, Rickov of House Marst, took it upon himself to claim ownership of Dawn's Grove and it's people within who very quickly became indentured servants, toiling away for little reward. The poor farmers did what they always did and worked their fields tirelessly.

When Markis turned 13 his life was altered permanently again when a barn fire claimed the lives of his parents before he was old enough to work his family land. He was left with little time to grieve as His Lordship removed the young halfling and placed him in one of his manor houses as a house servant. Markis used this opportunity to try to find a way out of his hated lifestyle and did everything he could to be a model house-boy while turning to the darkened corners of New Stetven's criminal underground to learn the skills he'd need to be free.

The double life suited Markis as he learned to steal, lie, lockpick and hide. He became particularly good at pocketing items stolen from his marks, because of his strange ability to make small things literally disappear! A trick he had learned from winning a bet with a drunken Wizard. All the while gaining favor with Rickov's guests who would visit from time to time. One guest took a particular shining to our Markis, an Elf Potion Maker who saw the intelligent boy's potential. Falaris the Elf sought to teach Markis the wonders of Alchemy and the Elvish Language but, the little rogue was unimpressed. Unfortunately, Fate would change his mind...

Tired from a long night of no-good, Markis stumbled into Falaris' chambers for it's morning cleaning only to find a bubbling alembic unattended in the room next to a book that read out a formula that was unfinished. "Distilled Saltwater with Iron Fillings + Bat Guano + An Arcane Catalyst = ?". Intrigued, Markis put the black and grey powder he assumed to be the Guano into the clear liquid just as Falaris entered the room. The bottle shook and started to glow, the Elf flew in the room while throwing the boy out of the door before the thunderous explosion consumed the Alchemist and set the manor ablaze.

Markis ran, and ran, and ran as servants and nobles panicked in terror. He ran to the stables and collected Falaris' donkey-drawn cart and the animal it was made for, a weathered grey mule named Squeak. Once he was far enough to not hear the screams and bells he stopped the cart to collect himself. He rummaged the interior and found a rudimentary Lab, an ornate bottle with green-gold filigree, some coin and a letter from the Sword Lords of Restov that had gone unanswered. He took a new name, Ren Marthan and sought to change luck finishing his Alchemy training in the process.

Personality:
Ren has a secret he is willing to keep at any cost and that has made him a little subdued and paranoid. He keeps these tendencies mostly in-check by delving deeper into his businessman persona who is helpful, crafty and great with money. Should he or Squeak, his only friend, be put in danger, he'll utilize the full extent of his abilities to remove the threat or remove himself in retreat.

Thank you for you consideration. I'm free to answer any questions you may have.

My character is going to probably be cutting it close to the deadline for character submissions. I've been working this week like crazy and it hasn't been very easy to find down time (most of my downtime is spent eating or sleeping.

But she is still coming!

She's a half elf sorcerer with a heavy focus on enchantment. I've given her the crossblooded archetype with the fey and arcane bloodlines for the extra boosts to my very sub-optimal save or suck spells. Very narrow focus, but what she does, she does VERY well.

Just wanted to let you know I'll be withdrawing from consideration. Another KM recruitment popped up that's using GM Kingslayer's character building rules, and I don't really have the time to rebuild this character for a non-gestalt game for the moment.
