Farrukh stumbles as he tries to cover his body from the fire, and takes the full brunt of its power.

Upon hearing Zalamandra's warning he curses and tries to do what he can with the other wizard blocking his path.

He rushes forward and slams the Vecnan in front of the door with his shield, hoping to knock him back into his master.

Charge Slam!: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16

Action Point: 1d6 ⇒ 3

Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Assuming that beats the CMD of the wizard, here's the other Bull Rush check to push the Faceless One.

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15

He moves with them as far as he can.

I'm a little fuzzy on whether I can actually do that with Shield Slam. If not, I would prefer to spend an Action Point to get Improved Bull Rush and just do a standard Bull Rush. Only difference would be a +2 on the checks and no damage.

Farrukh charges. The ghostly eye swivels to face him, and the hand barely makes it in time to knock the shield back.

Astraden:
This ten-foot-wide, L-shaped passage is broken up by a series of slender, marble columns that run down its center. Strange patterns of wispy green veins writhe and undulate within the stone. The floor here consists of square, bonewhite tiles that measure about a foot across. The walls are made of a dull gray marble covered with strange, circular bulges in an irregular pattern.

Aw. No monkey business.

Tanith hacks into the Faceless One, who takes the bloody blow without the slightest sound. He sniffs as the magical energies dissipate. "Ty...typical Kordian cowardisse when fasthed with the unknown."

Cuetzpalli is up. Spiny is grappled.

Also, something I really should have noticed: Cuetzpalli needs to make another Will save, since he has yet to actually break free and never left range. We'll let him stay where he is, but the battle won't give him any extra saves unless he's attacked (in which case, he of course breaks free instantly).

The reason for that is because, if he was still in the hall, there wouldn't be a battle to break him out. :P

So he's still potentially affected by the allip's babbling, despite me slapping him back to his senses? Alright then... this might get ugly...

Battle at the Rift, The Isle of Last Resort

As far as I know, being "auto-released" doesn't count as resisting the effect. Those of you who know the rules better can feel free to double-check me on that—my interpretation could easily be wrong.

I think you'd be right to say that, KC. Here's what the PFSRD has to say regarding that:

PFSRD wrote:

Babble (Su)

An allip constantly mutters to itself, creating a hypnotic effect. All sane creatures within 60 feet of the allip must succeed at a DC 15 Will save or be fascinated for 2d4 rounds. While a target is fascinated, the allip can approach it without breaking the effect, but an attack by the allip does end the effect. Creatures that successfully save cannot be affected by the same allip's babble for 24 hours. This is a sonic, mind-affecting compulsion effect. The save DC is Charisma-based.

Since Cuetzpalli didn't make his save the first time around, it'd be correct to say he's still vulnerable.

That's a rather harsh interpretation of it. Usually succumbing to an effect then later escaping it counts as a successful save against those creatures with once/24 hours abilities. At least that's how I've always run it and had it run. Can't think of a RAW argument off the top of my head though...-sigh-

Cuetzpalli will save: 1d20 ⇒ 19

Baha! Take that probability, I'm free!

Spiny will save (heroism): 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 1 + 2 = 4
Spiny will save (heroism): 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 2 = 6

Spiny takes 2 wisdom damage.

Cuetzpalli CMD: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10

Spiny CMD: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

Cuetzpalli remains stuck in the webbing, cursing a red streak in the Olman tongue. Spiny thrashes instinctively against the oily hands reaching out from the pillar to grip his leg. The dinosaur rips the limb free (I hope?) and steps away from the pillars, growling.

Maybe...

Battle at the Rift, The Isle of Last Resort

Since you made your save, it's luckily moot. We can discuss the rule in the Discussion thread for future reference.

Spiny struggles mightily, but can't escape the grasping pillar. The tar hand stretches, but the more Spiny sinks his teeth into it, the more the dinosaur starts to realize the tar is just using the leverage to wrap around his throat and establish a tighter hold.

Though Zalamandra and Eben's attacks badly wear at the allip's form, the babbling spirit seems to grow slightly larger, and clearer, when it touches the mind of Spiny.

The remaining cultists glance over, confused at the foul-mouthed voice apparently coming from their altar.

Round 4.

The Faceless One sniffs, closing the door. "Pardon me."

From behind the door, more arcane syllables are heard—though too faint to make out from Zalamandra's position.

Meanwhile, the allip drifts away, fading through the wall and out of sight.

A moment later, it reemerges behind Zalamandra. It lashes out at her from behind.

Touch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Zalamandra must make a Will save, DC 15, or take 1d4 ⇒ 2 Wisdom damage.

The last wizard with a scroll takes aim at Farrukh again. "Die! Die!"

Touch Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Damage: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 5, 1) = 16

The blast is particularly fierce this time, ripping into the unlucky slayer. Yet, when the smoke clears, he's still standing. Barely.

"Why won't you die?!" The wizard hurries back against the wall, casting away the scroll-turned-ash.

The other wizard snarls, limping to the side and weaving his hands in complex gestures. As he casts, he tries to keep up his guard...

Concentration: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14

...but in doing so, he forgets a key gesture, and the spell collapses. He looks at his hands, blanching. "Damn."

Actually, Cuetzpalli, that hits! Invisibility gives a +2, and it's flat-footed.

Damage: 1d12 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

The allip bears the vicious peppering of magic arrows and missiles (and apparently poetry), letting out a confused warble. It starts to retreat back into the wall, and is halfway in—

And Cuetzpalli swings his axe straight down, cutting through web and splitting the mad spirit clean in two.

It only lets out a sigh as it fades away. Cuetzpalli notices, out of the corner of his eye, a little rune being added to the axe's blade.

Various magics are swirling around the Faceless One now, and they block Farrukh's attack.

To the left, Farrukh can see the Faceless One's Laboratory.

Two long, wooden tables dominate this chamber. They run along the length of the room, pushed up against opposite walls, and are covered with a variety of beakers, alchemical tools, and other devices—including two shortswords. A few glass containers bubble with materials of a variety of colors, from a boiling green sludge to a fizzing, effervescent blue liquid. Several bookshelves filled with tomes occupy one section of the wall. In the middle of the chamber stands a large, black iron cauldron. A thick layer of wax seals it shut.

Beside the shelves stand two horrific displays. In the far corner lies a pile of decaying human hands, from what must have been hundreds of victims. Nearby lies an equally large pile of eyeballs.

To Farrukh's shock, he realizes the latter pile is slowly oozing towards him.

Farrukh Sense Motive 15:
This doesn't seem like a completed creature. It seems to be slowly forming itself into a central mass, but it might be vulnerable for a few moments more. Farrukh estimates he has roughly 20 seconds before it's assembled.

Round 5.

The Faceless One gives a cold laugh, tattooed left hand glowing bright. "Have you sseen enough?"

His hand emits twin serpentine rays, which writhe through the air to strike Farrukh's eyes. He feels his vision clouding...

Fortitude save from Farrukh.

After Rolling (and potential AP expenditures):
DC 18 or be blinded. Permanently.

On the bright side, the following effect won't affect you.

If Farrukh fails his save, the Faceless One will back all the way to the eastern door. Otherwise, five-foot step.

Meanwhile, one of the acolytes steps away and again tries to defensively cast...

Concentration: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22

...and this time succeeds. He twirls his dagger, and it starts to glow, reflecting numerous colors in a blast of painful flashing at Tanith and Farrukh.

Will saves from Tanith and Farrukh.

After Rolling:
DC 14 or be stunned for a round.

The other acolyte rushes over, drawing and drinking a potion as he goes. His eyes turn bright orange as he looks around with a hint of fresh understanding. He shouts something in a shuddering, sibilant tongue.

Apparently understanding, the other wizard draws a scroll from his belt.

Stop eating all the good rolls. =(

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

Fort: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Will: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

I doubt even a max roll would save me on either so no Action Point.

@Astraden: I would have been if I'd hit anything. My weapon's Masterwork so it doesn't affect the attack rolls.

Farrukh sighs, no longer even surprised by his string of bad luck.

But at least he knows we have about 3 rounds before an amorphous blob tries to kill us all. Too bad he can't relay that info.

Seeing the other lesser cultists gunned down by his comrades, Tanith turns north and chases after their faceless master. Dropping his poleaxe along the way, the big man lunges for the masked spellcaster.

"That's enough out of you. Your Triad's through in Diamond Lake!"

Grapple (heroism and bull's): 1d20 + 11 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 11 + 4 = 34

Farukh is not stunned, as he cannot see the pretty colors anymore.

Oh yeah, silver linings and all that.

Assuming I'm not dead, I want the Heroism from now on. The dinosaur can fend for himself. =(

"Hey, there's a nasty blob...thing made of eyes and hands that's probably gonna try to kill us in the next 20 seconds or so!"

"Also, I'm blind!"

Battle at the Rift, The Isle of Last Resort

Tanith tackles the Faceless One, who snarls in indignation. "You've gotten in my way for the lassth time, Kordian."

You can burn action points for blind-fight in the meantime. =(

Also, I think your action points are wrong. We have a max of 7 currently.

"Big talk for a man with no face! Say Uncle and I might go easy on you."

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

Are they? I thought it was 3+level.

Edit: Nope, guess it's 5+1/2 level. My bad.

The original goal was that I'd beneift Tanith & Cuetz via heroism and Farrukh via use of disappearing act. The latter hasn't panned out so far, so I'd be happy to express my belief in Farrukh instead.

Eben is more than a little surprised that one arrow was enough to take one of the wizards down, but not so much that he won't roll with it.

"Dangle the Faceless One over the eyeball blob and see if that won't get it to simmer down!" he shouts to the next room as a suggestion.

Cuetzpalli is up!

Astraden is also up, I think.

Incidentally, did anyone pick up a scroll of remove blindness from anywhere?

Astraden steps out into the central hall, letting the emptiness claw at her psyche but not succumbing. She focuses on one hand, and tiny motes of light begin to collect around it, discharging little violet crackles now and then. When the energy seems to have reached its height, she charges for Farrukh and discharges the spell, sending a hefty flow of healing energy through his veins.

"Light for light can heal pain / though it's of no use when blinded or insane." She struggles with the bulging hands. "This is lame!"

Cure serious wounds: 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (8, 6, 6) + 5 = 25 Converted from searing light.

Round 5: Convert searing light to cure serious wounds and cast (standard action), movement (move action), and discharge cure serious wounds on Farrukh (free action). Nondetection lasts 2945 rounds, Farrukh's magic weapon lasts 42 rounds, Tanith's magic weapon lasts 43 rounds, and eagle's splendor lasts 45 rounds.

Liberty's Edge

Male Underpowered Warrior 1

No. We should find out what the Faceless One's time to prepare spells is and see about getting him to do it. Assuming we do capture him.

Farrukh, wanna see if Knowledge (dungeoneering) works on that monster? Otherwise fingers crossed for another undead . . .

Isn't Cuetzpalli on vacation? It might be worth NPCing him to keep things moving since everyone else is around and posting.

Battle at the Rift, The Isle of Last Resort

Technically, Farrukh is also up, but I'm not sure if he intends to act this round.

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

I forgot we were in a new round.

By the by, Dispel Magic works on Blindness/Deafness, so Astraden can prepare that tomorrow, or Remove Blindness, or whatever. No need to keep the Faceless One alive so he can worm his way out somehow.

And WOULD Dungeoneering work?

Battle at the Rift, The Isle of Last Resort

It's Knowledge (religion) or Knowledge (arcana). Nobody can see it, but they can hazard guesses based on Farrukh's detailed description.

Knowledge (Religion/Arcana 25):
It's exceedingly difficult to learn anything about the cult practices of the god of secrets. However, there have been cases where a prisoner slated to be sacrificed managed to escape, or a former Vecnan repented of his ways and fled the clergy. Such people generally go missing shortly thereafter, but not before a few whispers emerge about the Vecnans' dealings.

One of the darkest rituals sacred to the Vecnans is The Making, where hundreds of hands and eyes are cut and plucked from living victims and, under certain planar and celestial conjunctions, animated into two deadly constructs. It is said that the Hand and the Eye can only be given life with direct intervention from Vecna, or in a location the Archlich spent time in during his foul living existence.

If the latter were achieved, the planar and celestial conjunctions could perhaps be circumvented, though at a great cost—it's likely only one of the pair could be animated, and it would be much frailer than normal.

Quick Info: The Eye is similar to a flesh golem, being immune to most magic and hard to hurt with non-adamantine weapons. It's said to possess a massive "head-eye", taken from a giant or eye tyrant, that can sap the life force from its opponents.

Round Addendum: Knowledge Roll!

Knowledge (Arcana): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28

Zalamandra's face finally turns white with fear.

"...everyone, the Faceless One might be the least of our problems. What Farrukh just described is a creature called The Eye--a flesh golem of sorts made from the eyes of hundreds of living victims. It's immune to most magic and difficult to damage with non-adamantine weapons, and it's also packing a massive 'head-eye' that can sap your life force." She says.

"In other words--KILL THAT F**KING EYE-BEAST BEFORE IT GETS GOING!"

She swore. She must be serious.
