Headed to work, and not wanting to delay things til after I get home, so here's the two possible actions I'll take. If Carina bombs and dispels the ice wall separating the two sides of the party, I defensively cast eagle's splendor (DC 19), spend 2 APs to buy Greater Spell Penetration, and defensively cast slow (DC 21). Slow (DC 18 Will save with eagle's splendor) should cover all the devils except the two on the far right. (One of which is already slowed, the other is probably close to being Tanithed to death)

defensive casting: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26

Spell resistance checks, clockwise from the un-slowed barbed devil.

If Carina doesn't dispel the wall, I defensively cast cat's grace (DC 19) and mirror image (DC 19) on myself. Both succeed, using the above defensive casting rolls. Mirror image gets 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 images.

I also continue DoD and Dance of 23 Steps.

Good hope lasts 89 rounds, (eagle's splendor lasts 90 rounds, slow lasts 9 rounds) or (cat's grace lasts 90 rounds, mirror image lasts 90 rounds).

AC is 27/18/18 with haste & dance of 23 steps active, or 29/20/18 if cat's grace is cast.

Tanith steps over unleashes a flurry of punches against the devil targeting Farrukh. On the second punch, he drives his fist through the bone creature's neck, snapping it in two.

He redirects his last blow on the devil targeting him and Carina, delivering a heavy hit.

The bone devil swipes at Farrukh, but not quick enough to stop him.

"Okay," the barbed devil mutters. "Should have seen that coming."

Are we still going with the action point rule that you have to choose to get a feat at the beginning of your turn? If so, I will pick up Quick Channel. If not, I'll hold off until I know the results of my attack on the barbed devil. [8/10]

No pressure Carina, but I think I'm also going to delay my actions until after your turn, just in case you can drop the wall and I can heal more people. If you manage it I'll also change my 5' to move southeast instead of south.

Astraden steps forward and tries to grab the hamatula, the violet tinge of the light intensifying as her hand nears the spines. "We have a right to local control. Get off my plane," she growls as the barbs pierce her ashen skin.

The priestess' wounded hand retreats to her mask, and she releases a burst of energy that heals her allies without closing the wounds of any bone devils.

Quick Channel positive energy (healing): 6d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 5, 6, 1, 1) = 21 [4/6] [44/80] If the wall is up, this heals Astraden, Eben, and Clunk (I exclude the devils that are in line of effect). If the wall is down, this heals Astraden, Eben, Carina, Clunk, Tanith, and the southern barbed devil.

Round 4: Spend an AP for Quick Channel (no action), five-foot step (no action), discharge touch spell (standard action), and quick channel healing (move action). Chaos hammer lasts 3 rounds and copycat lasts 7 rounds.

"Nice one, Astraden!" Eben calls encouragingly as the priestess single-handedly takes out the most obnoxious of the devils.

Slight addendum to my action this round: since I'm not otherwise using a move action, Eben retrieves his gravity bow wand after casting his spells.

Carina's bombs strike the wall of ice, but the wall remains stubbornly in place.

Eben casts some spells upon himself and Astraden looses a burst of healing energy. Clunk glances down as its damaged gears are healed before they can regenerate naturally. "Strange. Please don't do that again."

Round 5: Clunk

The inevitable darts to the side and stares at the nearest devil. Spectral chains of solid violet hue fly straight at the creature facing Eben and Astraden.

The devil freezes up, paralyzed. Clunk nods decisively and springs over where the dismissed barbed devil was to confront the one remaining.

The hamatula glances south where Farrukh has run, eyes narrowing, then zeroes in on the inevitable bearing down on it.

"Om reduceras till en, reträtt till torn." It snaps its fingers. "Fortsätta stör dessa—"

Back up north, the two remaining bone devils exchange looks.

The one up above the wall turns invisible as it begins to chant softly to itself. The one next to Carina and Tanith, meanwhile, switches targets.

How did you get mage armor and ironskin? Neither has a 24-hour duration, and it's been a day since the encounter with Niniane the Quasit. It's difficult to search for when you last used them, but you don't seem to have cast either during or directly before this combat.

Mage armor is a 'first thing in the morning' buff along with Carina's shield other. Both are extended with my extend rod so unless we're ambushed at 4am or something I assume they're always up. I put up ironskin the first round of combat.

Does it not understand how its own fear ability works?

"Nuh-uh!" Farrukh says, wide-eyed, and flees again in a different direction entirely.

Exit, stage right. Withdraw, 140 feet to the right.

Although technically this MAY count as an occasion where I cannot flee, so that means I can turn around and fight. But that's pushing it. =)

Hm. Well. All the un-slowed monsters are dead, so guess last round worked out just as well with me not going overboard to pull that off. Okay, then...

Eben mutters as the ice wall fails to come down, leaving him literally with his back to a wall and a bone devil directly in front of him. "Guess we're going to have to do this the hard way, then..." he says, waving his wand, dropping it, shaking his rod, dropping that, and then drawing his bow.

Continue Dirge of Doom. Cast gravity bow from my wand as a standard action. Drop wand. Defensively cast eagle's splendor on myself as a swift action. Drop rod. Draw bow as a move action. Activate Dance of 23 Steps as a free action.

Astraden runs through the trees towards Farrukh, touching the hilt of her rapier and causing violet fractals to smoke from the sheath. "Hamatula, I'm coming for you, too!"

[0/1] I provoke from the bone devil nearest me, though I have copycat up. Current AC is accurate with haste.

Round 5: Use supernatural chaos blade ability on my rapier (standard action) and 60-foot move (move action). Chaos hammer lasts 2 rounds, copycat lasts 6 rounds, and chaos blade lasts 4 rounds.

Clunk lets out a long sigh. It begins to sprint after Farrukh, as Tanith advised. "Al'Khatel, please shrug off the spell. You look extremely silly."

The barbed devil attempts to ignore the slavering monster next to it to cast a spell. "Disgusting celestials."

Its spell fizzles. The devil grimaces. "Revolting."

Meanwhile, the bone devil above finishes chanting. Nothing happens.

"Drat," says the invisible fiend.

The last bone devil zeroes in on the last available target: Eben MacTeague, who still won't shut up.

Its stinger lashes out, destroying one of Eben's images. It sighs.

I think Tanith just Tanithed the devil bugging me out of existence. If it's still there, I'll attack it, but otherwise...

Eben looks up, toward where he just heard an invisible devil unwisely speak. "Hey, devil on my shoulder, where are you?"

Perception to pinpoint a square it's in: 1d20 + 16 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 16 + 2 = 28

If that fails to turn up anything, what's the current distance between myself and the remaining hamatula? It's basically off the map, right? If I move 60 feet in its direction, will it be within a range increment (110 feet) or so of my longbow? Might be worth chasing it & using a dimensional lock arrow to keep it in place.


The Gateway Grove, The Isle of Last Resort

Yes, you could move within reach—it's 90' off the map, if I recall rightly.

Eben feels a breeze on the back of his neck. The devil seems to be roughly thirty feet up, above the wall.

The massive lion tackles the barbed devil, ignoring the painful barbs. The hamatula is bleeding black ichor all over. It can't survive this for much longer. Of course, neither can the brutally impaled celestial lion.

Rodrigo's Damages: 1d8 + 9 + 1d6 + 9 + 1d6 + 9 + 1d6 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 + (5) + 9 + (3) + 9 + (5) + 9 = 51

Lion has taken 60 damage so far (these attacks obviously bypass its DR).

Meanwhile, Tanith "Taniths" the Baator out of the last visible bone devil, erasing it from existence forever with three brutal hacks. He gets so into it, the fourth nearly takes Eben's arm off.

Surely at least the Smite should bypass DR. Think that was in the 3.5 template but they didn't port it over to PF.

Astraden changes course, swerving to sprint towards the hamatula. Unfortunately, her rapier gets caught in its sheath, and she scrapes to a halt in the grass as she struggles to free the blade.

Eben is pretty sure he can tell where the invisible devil is floating, but has no problems making sure of that. "Thanks, Carina." He looks askance at the liquid., but swigs it down with a grimace. "Salty." He then looks up and grins, though. "But worth it. Boy, these guys are ugly..."

Clunk continues pursuing Farrukh.

Round 7: Devils

The chaos magic is beginning to fade, but not quick enough to avail the last hamatula. In one titanic struggle of will, it attempts again its last spell.

Concentration: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (2) + 16 = 18

The effort fails as the lion gives the devil a vicious shake. The devil slumps.

Meanwhile, Eben gains a visual on the bone devil just in time to see the devil turn to face him.

"Apologies," it announces politely. "This confrontation has proven to be a fatal error and will now conclude. We thank you for your time."

It bows. With a ping, the last baatezu blinks out of sight once more.

The lion will likely die in the process, but it can and will easily destroy the devil now unless Rodrigo deliberately de-summons it. Unless Rodrigo decides to do that, consider this encounter over.

Eben frowns as the devil teleports out before he has a chance to unload some arrows into it. He turns to instead launch on the leftover hamatula, but sees it being savaged to death by the big glowy lion. Frustrated, he instead shouts out, "You're probably still watching, Visciannix, so let that be a lesson. We will take out anyone you send after the rod, including your lardy pit fiend butt if you so much as come within a continent of that thing! Try us if you don't believe me!" In a lower voice, he confirms, "Uh... we can take a pit fiend, right?"
