Yeah, Danny was insulting both of them, but I wrote most of the insults against the Emperor, so it would make sense that he is the the target.
Although, when I started I actually was thinking of the ROAB suit, since he dared to grab at the girls,... ;P
Ah the delightful conundrum that is my incessantly chattering mind.
Now if it would only shut up long enough for me to figure out how to get more money,... or this is gonna be a LONG month! ;P

WHY would that make you unhappy?
There are so many other worse characters you could have made than a scrappy, petite bad-@$$ who happens to be good with a gun! :)
See when I do that, it is with full understanding that I am making a direct clone of a favorite character from a book. Usually without trying to hide it very much. I am so jealous that YOU can do it without even reading the books! :)
Wait until you get to the collection of short stories 'Side Jobs' and read the story 'Aftermath'. THAT will show you how much a bad-@$$ Karrin is. All by herself. No wizard needed. :)

Don't misunderstand me; Murphy is an awesome character. But she's Jim Butcher's character, not mine.
When you can't plot and can't write description and can't write an action sequence, character is pretty much all you got. I'm good at characterization and like to have unique, interesting characters when I'm not GM'ing, not knockoffs of somebody else's.
I hope that with her backstory exposition, Sal will differentiate from Murphy. Geez, she doesn't even use her first name. *facepalm*

Oh I think I know how you feel.
The big difference being that I obviously don't mind imitating others. (I long ago stopped pretending that I'm creative enough to come up with something that hasn't already been done!) ;PHonestly, when I saw Sal I actually never thought of Murphy, although NOW that you've mentioned it, I can't stop seeing the similarities! ;P
Seriously, Personally, I think you did a great job. Certainly with the military background & etc she is not a cookie-cutter of Murphy by any means. And like D&D & PF, there are really only so many options we have here in DF land,...
Wizard? Your starting with Harry or Gandalf?
Fighter? Knight of the cross or Conan the barbarian?
Rogue? Thomas Wraith or Serisial? (PF Rouge archetype)
Sorcerer? Molly Carpenter or Harry Potter?
Shapeshifter/Druid? Billy the werewolf or the shapeshifter from the Hobbit?
You get my point, when boiled down to the basics, it is very easy to see the similarities of characters, instead of the differences that make them unique. IMHO. :)
I think your doing great. Keep it up!
(I actually need to put a lot more effort into doing something new instead of copying those I enjoy reading/watching so much!) ;P

Meanwhile, back in the game,.... ;P
Am I understanding this right? If we do a Defense roll, there is no 'partial' block of the attack? It's like D&D/PF, it either hits your AC or it doesn't?
So, (for example) if Danny does an athletics roll, but rolls lower than 6, he takes the full brunt of the attack. (6 shift attack, would have to choose a box to mark off and take a consequence to account for the rest)
Or, does he have to roll HIGHER than the attack roll of 6?
I really need to make/find time to read the combat section,... ;P
Ragadolf |
Ah, hah?
I think I see.
The TARGET NUMBER of the spell (to control it) was a 7 (5 shift attack +2 for the zone)
He failed to meet that number, so took damage from it himself,
But meanwhile, the spell still goes off, as a strength 5 weapons/physical attack, Since his roll was a 6, it is an 11 total.
Then as you just said above,... cool, ok, here goes nuthin'! ;)
DSXMachina |
Sorry, basically he did an invokation. The TN7 was to control it, if he failed the DC then any he failed it by would either be Backlash or Fallout.
(of course, the Dragon-Emperor cares little for his environment and all about himself - thus BOOM!)
Then you have to roll a Defence and beat the Emperors' Control Roll. And yeah, basically what you have said. Therefore we see Magic is nasty.

DSX got that backward -- backlash affects the caster, fallout attacks the world....
Also, it's not just about being selfish....
Backlash is the caster keeping the power under control and hurting himself to do it -- as such all the shifts of power still happen.
Fallout, on the other hand, is the caster choosing not to take backlash, and effectively releasing the extra energies that he/she couldn't control rather than letting them hurt him or her -- so the area gets washed by uncontrolled magical energies, and that would be your fallout. However, because the caster released the energies rather than taking the hit to pour 'em into the spell, the spell itself is weakened (because the energy isn't there) -- so every shift of fallout is a shift of power the original spell doesn't have to make with the nasty...

I know, I would award a Fate Point for that (if we were at a different stage of the adventure).
Which reminds me, if at any point you think you or anyone else should get a FP for any reason: (Cool RP, doing something fun/dangerous/In-Character) then just point it out (or pm me - if you prefer).
That's cool Danny RL trumps everything. Hope work's not too bad.

So that's this arc just about concluded. We should RP through the aftermath, then we can move on to the next story. But we still need to do things like introduce Sal to Kenneth & Danny properly and such. See what happens with Min & Lin. Resolve the ROAB leader (sans shotgun), and maybe even the politicians....
But what you have been waiting for XP!
Major Milestone & Significant Milestone

Ok, so, I brought my Lore to Superb (Bard, after all), which ups the power of my enchanted items (so I "free up" a slot from the sword, I'll figure out something appropriate to use that slot later), and gets me a new rote spell (again, I'll figure it out in a bit).
I'm thinking I'll use the other to gain a point in Burglary (most likely), which will give me a pyramid like this:
5:X
4:XX
3:XXX
2:XXX
1:XXXX
And from that shape, I'll be learning a few more 1's before I can start increasing skills I already have. :)
Beyond that, since I can't think of any supernatural abilities that cost 1 that I'd like, I'm torn between holding on to the point (to get 3 fp!) or, possibly, grabbing a fun mortal stunt -- maybe Poet (fits the bard thing), or Riposte (auto-successful attack on block), or Person of Conviction (use conviction for social stress track) -- or...
I'll keep thinking about it.
DSXMachina |
Cool. That's great, of course if after a bit you see a stunt/power you want we can work it in organically.
By the way any suggestions for improvements, or ideas of what you would like to do next (I have lots of ideas for this).
Do we want a small time skip (ala Dresden) or just a continue contiguously?
Do people want me to add/ alter the campaign tab (it needs updating of course)?
DSXMachina |
Yeah, I was thinking a month (game-time) to get us to March-April of the year. In canonical Dresden Files we are still before Changes _ the Red Court is still at war with the Wizards.
Chapter 3 will be once we get through an epilogue, probably a couple of weeks IRL. Depending upon posting frequency.

I finished Cold Days :)

wow you didnt care for Death Masks; that one was very intense for me.
OK, I've read quite a few now. Somebody else at the library has most of them checked out, but I pick up one now and again when it's reshelved. My reading order goes something like: 5, 12, 11, 13, 14, 1, 6. It is sub-optimal.
I think Death Masks is so very action-packed that it was like walking in on the big chase/action scene of a movie and not knowing what the heck is going on. I found Dresden a rather insufferable wiseass and didn't like his know-it-all abilities.
Now that I've read a bunch more, Butcher actually does a nice job of showing how little Harry knows and why he cracks wise so much. Death Masks was probably the absolute worst book to introduce the series.
Yeah, it's growing on me. Sue me. :P
