Given how the Eidolon's stats work, poor Mr Smith would not seem to be the brightest bulb on the Christmas light string.
Hopefully Madeline can help alleviate Kendra's distress and peruse the books soon. (^_^)
Of course, it would have been nice if the late Professor had also left behind Professors Foglio's handy tome "Surviving the 'Things that man was not meant to know!'." (^_~)

I suspect that's the one with the lock on it.

Well "Things Man was not Meant to know" is currently sitting on the kitchen table.

Please, I expect it's just a cookbook.
Besides this whole dark tapestry thins is hokum. I can disprove it too. All I need is a someone who can cast create pit,Wall of Iron and fabricate, a decanter of endless water. a helm of underwater action and a crazy brave Goblin named Yuri.
One space program coming up!

Well our last attempt would have worked if Yuri didn't eat the scrolls all the spells were written on.
We should have hired kobolds...

Are you seeing the same things I am? Or have I been driven mad by reading the wrong books?

The logical/tactical thing to to at this point would be to turn back as the secret part of our secret mission is well and truly blown and we have no functioning captain. The baddies know we are coming and there is no chance of the ship surviving without us once we get to the island. No ship means no way home means no way to get any info back to HQ. I will propose this after some folks have had a chance to post. I wounder how the GM will get us back on the rails.

ALL: AN IMPORTANT NOTE!! I am officially on vacation until May 10th, so I'll be traveling to the UK (Ireland/Scotland) for some R&R on Sunday. As stated when I took over the thread, I will be back and you need not worry about my absence. Considering its Thursday and I have a busy weekend ahead of me, I can't make tons of promises about steady posting. I will, however, say this. I'm going to try and move this scene to a good stoping point before I leave, so PLEASE feel free to gather, talk, and advance the scene as far as possible without too many die rolls and such. If you can keep it "in character" and formulate a collective plan together, I can move this story to a good stopping point and when I return, I'll be back full throttle!! All my best!!

TarkXT |

I was confused by something I think.
I took your OOC part in the post to mean that you were going to wait until later today to state what is actually said.
I'm just going to go ahead and assume Rendel read out loud as was written.
He did. Long as theres someone there to listen.

Creel |

Let's see insulted Rendal ~ 4 times in one post including what could be a sideways dig at his masculinity. All while offering help and support in integrating the new players.
Yup Paladins are the nice ones.

Oh you are so lucky Rendel is in full on investigator mode right now. We'd hate to make jokes about overcompensation from the paladin who carries an armory about.
Enjoy your sanity rolls!

Hhahahah speak snidely and carry a big axe!
Hmmmm I can't quite make this word out? Is it HAstur, haSTur, or hast...

TarkXT |

On an amusing note a younger version of Rendel's Father is taking part in a Rise of the Runelords AP.
Also I'd like to note it was about midmorning when we all got set on by wolves I can't imagine it being later than midafternoon. I want to have everyone informed of Rendel's findings and thoughts while walking to our desitinations with a plan in mind. Rendel only invited two but that's because that made the most sense and we know adventurers are not spelled with "sense".

Poor Wandering One |

Obviously the cure for Rendel's fear of public speaking is to thoroughly piss him off in front of the Necronomicon.
Perhaps I am taking things like the song and the family curse crack too personally. Perhaps it's just been a run of bad days. But something needs to change. I wonder if my dropping this PbP would make it flow easier. Creel has been the main irritant. Or perhaps removing the competition for divine 'right' by ret-conning to Fighter might make things easier. I just know that what was banter seems to have become edged, no longer fun.
In am not sure what to do here. Do you have any ideas?

TarkXT |

stuff
As to Creel, I guess I should ask what about it was about rendel that really rankled him? If anything?
You could argue that it's an opportunity for creel to prove his paladinhood once and for all. Rendel just told the man that evil's afoot and people are in mortal danger so at least that's something to work with.
Rendel did also state that he essentially cares more about the safety and well being of others than his reputation among them so at least in part they should understand one another to some degree.
The only real reason it became as edged as it did was the party's reaction as a whole to him rather than any one individual. Rendel tried dire warnings and that only angered people. Rendel then tried being sneaky about completing his goals under the guise of showing the newcomers the Professor's grave which failed. So, realizing his position within the party is tenable at best he's resorted to brutal honesty in the hope that people will finally understand where he's coming from, though at this point he may have shoved his boot so far down his mouth he's crapping boot laces.
In any case I don't think characters need to change they jsut need to get over this rough patch and at least agree to disagree. We have only known each other a very short period of time before the World Doom cults show up like they always do when 4-6 individuals with class levels gather in one spot.
Besides if worse comes to worst I'll jsut have to dial back the crazy a couple hundred notches.

"In any case I don't think characters need to change they jsut need to get over this rough patch and at least agree to disagree."Do you really see Rendal aggreeing to disagree? With a heritic? With someone who brings things from beyond to earth and dresses them like people? Rendal comes off as rather inflexible. One get's the idea that Rendal considers anyone who does not rise to his exact and unstated expectations to be an expendable tool at best. This is not someone to be trusted, not someone to turn your back on.
Does that make sense?[spoiler]

TarkXT wrote:Poor Wandering One wrote:stuff** spoiler omitted **poor wandering one:I don't know how familiar you are with comic books but consider the relationship between Batman and Superman.Batman's a control freak with some rather major issues while Superman is a home grown idealist without the cynical view of the universe batman does. It's just the result of their very very different upbringings. Rendel spent much of his childhood seeing the worst humanity had to offer and watched his parents combat them with sword and faith. They weren't particularly loved for it (if you think Rendel's bad you should meet his mother).
From my little understanding of creel he's spent much of his youth leading men against evil, inspiring them, adn seeing the best they ahve to offer. Where Rendel saw witch burnings, Creel saw heroic commoners fighting against darkness.
So essentially Batman and Superman don't particularly like one another's methods but do grow to respect and even rely on one another. But not before they get into some rather ugly brawls. Batman is uncompromising in his crusade and Sperman finds Batman's methods of fear and intimidations abhorrent.
Also I did not want Rendel to be Batman, maybe that's just a side effect of the class.

Okay guys, I'm ....not kidding ....sitting at a pub in Dublin reading this on my iPad over dinner. I probably should be drinking more and chasing Irish girls, but sometimes the Overnerd comes out. I'll say this; Creel is a bit naive and Rendel is a self-righteous jack@ss. Both are strong archetypes that warrant special attention. Neither require either of you leave. As players, continue to work together and look for ways to develop this narrative in a positive way! Creel, realize darkness is evil, but has human nuance that Rendel is unwilling to see and work that angle. Even the darkest men might know redemption. Rendel, realize you are not your father and nothing is as black and white as you buy into. Being an inquisitor doesn't mean you're locked into a role. Play with the role and keep ay eye to how you can expand. ALSO; try humble without the "I'm an old vet" angle. That's my advice. I'm super excited by this narrative and can't wait to see where it goes! Don't close the book before we get to chapter two!!

Thanks for the word, I'm sure we can work stuff out. Now get drinking, And those girls won't chase themselves you know!

The characters can't leave, the mists won't let them...
Oh..wait...different setting...though seemingly not by much. ;)
Characters can still adventure together, even if there are dislikes. All the character interplay adds so much!
I, as a player, would be saddened and unhappy if another player thought their character had to leave.
*Bows*

Going to give the others until morning to respond and then I'll post.
Cool. beginning to think we lost you.
For everyone How are er dealing with experience? Individual tracks? Group track with individual bonus/penalties? Level when Replacement says so? The last one is my choice as it it less data to track.
Also at some point we will stop bickering and actually leave the house. How do we want to deal with the inevitable loot questions? Shares? General fund take what you need subject to vote? Play it by ear and hope for the best? I must say I haven't given this much thought do you guys have ideas?

ALL- I need a show of hands to see who is still on for this campaign. I know I've been gone for a week, so a few people may have taken a break, too. I'm back, however, and I'd like to see who's still on for some gaming! Right now, it looks like Rendel, Creel, Madeline, and der Grafft are still posting.
Giles and Torthen, are you two still in?

I started looking through UM early this morning. I haven't really tackled any of the Inquisitor stuff, but the book itself looks pretty damned... well... pretty! Now guys, get to some action so we can move on to the next scene!!
pushes the group.....
Looks like 3 of the 4 frequent posters are waiting by the door and ready to hit the town.
I feel a bit like the lone wanderer in Fallout 3 when he reaches the edge of the DC ruins. You can see the field in front of you. You can even shoot the mutant bears wandering through it, but you can't walk in.
