Jorgmandier in the other thread also yeah, general malaise means you detect a certain someone downstairs but nothing that screams imminent death to you :P
Waaaaaaait a min. I am missing something here. Unfocused Detect Evil is a 60'long 60 degree cone. So from upstairs ther is no way I could detect my etiquette master. In fact until he hits 5th level he does not even have an aura that I can read. Oracles do not have an aura of "x" feature. They go right under the radar.
Unless I am missing something that is.
I was just thinking that if I was picking up anything upstairs it meant panic time as either something is up there hiding or something VERY evil came through here a while ago.
The only folks in our group with readable auras are my self and Mr.Smith. If Smith counts as an outsider that is.
At least that is my understanding but I am frequently wrong.
Help?

We each learn from our experiences. All the more reason "Detect Evil" is frequently misused.

Don't sweat the Detect. You don't even have an aura until 5th level.
Unless you do something weird that is.'sides as far as Creel's concerned you're golden.

Beloved leader is running several other campaigns so attention is limited.
Still a tad faster would be nice.
I was worried I wouldn't be able to keep up. I'm just glad this isn't the case. I'm sure we'll see more from our very dedicated GM in the near future.
Cheers,

Okay, so honestly I bit off more than I can chew with taking on four games and sadly I’ve been reflecting and I think I’m going to have to shut down all but one of the games so I can focus my effort and be the GM my players deserve. Apologies to all involved and if places open up in my game I’ll be sure to call on you guys first.

![]() |

Well, I for one don't like the idea of abandoning these characters like that.. This has been thus far the best game I've been on in these forums in part because of the characters.
So, whose up for simply getting another GM?
Well, if people want, I can GM this. It'll take me a few days to read through the first part of the AP, but I could run it (killing off/retiring my own character in the process). Let me know what you think.
Cheers,
Jaye

I was afraid of something like this. pity. I hope you enjoy running Carrion Crown with your other players.
Oh well life goes on. I hope the game goes well. Please keep me in mind if something opens up.
Jaye Sure I would love to continue. I am sure you will make a wonderful GM.

Whoa. I just noticed this (shows how aware I am).
I am as the others, sad to see you go, Jorm, but I feel for you. I know the feeling intensely.
With that said, I have no problems with Jason running the game. Take your time, let us know, etc.
I can only hope your time becomes unclogged soon, Jorm, so you can return to entertainment!

Madeline Peshtussle |

I, too, empathise and feel for Jorm at them having to drop games.
Also, if Jason Sonia is willing to pick us poor, forlorn, characters up from almost certain oblivion, then Yay! =)
Would we, perchance, be allowed a 'review' of character generation under said new DM?
Much cheers and very best wishes to every one.

I'm just fine with Jason running. Though I want to ask if we should not replace his character?
Anywa Jormun you will be missed. :(
We should. We will need a new body. Strange thought, I wonder if Jörmungandr might want to play? See how the other half lives so to speak.
What say you Jörmungandr?
Madeline can't speak for the DM but I would be open to a full restart. We are not that far in and will need new threads in any case. Jason's call though.

Normally I'd say "You know what, bugger it, yeah I'm in" but the only game I'm still running is Carrion Crown and the only game I'm currently playing in is Carrion Crown so I'm already fairly saturated in Carrion Crown gaming :P
Thanks muchly for the offer though and I hope you guys have a great time with the Adventure, I really like the setting/feel of the AP so far and I hope its excellency continues throughout the run :)

All,
If you'd like me to pick this up, I'd be happy to. Here's my take on things:
1) I'll pick it up. I'm not open to a "restart" and I'd love to see where this goes as it's playing out currently. I think the dynamics developing between some of the characters is far too rich to just toss aside.
2) I'd be open to minor character changes and reviews, but much like Jorm, I'd like to keep the current theme and feel strongly in the "horror court." I know Madeline had her heart set on a firearm and I'm perfectly okay with that, provided none of the other players take real issue with it. If it does become a problem, however, I will find a creative way to remove the mechanic (that fits the story). Having watched Madeline's style, however, I don't foresee this being an issue.
A note about guns: If you want to use a firearm, you'll be using the normal AC just like anyone else shooting a missile weapon. I know Paizo has elected to use touch AC as their primary mechanic, but I don't see that really being any more realistic (I know, I know, it's fantasy ..but it's also science and guns) than a high powered crossbow or composite short bow (at short range). If you want a gun, you'll have to accept relatively normal ranged attack rolls. In exchange, I'll be ignoring the misfire chance (range dependent) on guns, with natural ones jamming guns (instead of them gaining the broken condition). Trying to fire a jammed gun or critically failing on clearing the gun, however, is a completely different story...
3) Yes, we definitely need to pick up additional players. In fact, I'd be open to two additional spots. I'll go through the old posts and see who applied and might still want to get involved.
4) If you have questions, feel free to post me here. I won't be exchanging emails for the PbP unless I feel it's absolutely necessary. I try to check the boards at least twice a day (once on Thursdays and Fridays).
5) I'll be off on holiday from May 2nd-9th (going to Dublin and Belfast with friends), so there will not be any posts during those dates. You are forewarned.
6) I'm not going to kill off Tharnik just this moment, but I'll definitely work his exit into the plan. I don't like playing DMPCs (too much of a pain), but I'm also a stickler for continuity. He's not going to keel over and die. He might wait out a month, take his platinum, and just go.
7) If not one minds, I'll just keep these two threads active and create a GM Profile to pick up the story. I don't see the point in starting everything all over again.
You thoughts?

Replies to the new beloved leader.
1) Looking forward to your time at the helm!
2) I'm good with this. No issues re: guns and no changes needed to Creel.
3) Thank you. I hope I did not trespass in giving Jorgmander a shout earlier. I am looking forward to seeing who is late to the funeral.
4) I will also try for several times per day. I am rather quiet on Saturdays however.
5) Lucky &#)*#%d. I would love go to Ireland this spring.
6) NOOOOO we need to keep my etiquette coach in the game! Seriously though a good exit or a 'Take the money and run exit' will work fine. I want to tell you not to kill him off but i know we are in a horror game.
7) I'm cool with this. Don't need to move my bookmarks.

Thank you. Though removing such would, I feel, kind of hurt the character, but I d(and will) bow to the DM's views.

On this note I am actually kind of ambivalent. Since, while the gun/gun-smithing, is a 'technical part' of her background the actual ""Blinding them with SCIENCE!" is not. Though, would you consider using the Iron Kingdoms damage levels of guns, to compensate?
Sorry, I know I should not be pushy, but I feel the need to kind of 'dispel' the idea that a gun is just a different version of a X-bow. A X-bow, and all bows for that matter, are physical torsion engines. Hence there is a definite limit to the physical energy the human/mechanical aspect can put into these weapons. A Gun is a contained/controlled chemical reaction and hence the amount of power available is actually far greater. As for the historical etc aspects of Guns/X-bows/Bows, that is a whole different amount of thread and other such things. Just feel I had to get that off my chest. Thank you. *Bows* =)

Hey Jason if you scroll back to the last page, I was trying to get Kendra in private. It's in a spoiler block that was originally meant for jorm who never responded.
If you want that to be after this scene that's fine and appropriate since Rendel has still manaqged not to reveal anything about himself yet apart from what others have assumed. :P

I know, I know. But it's not so much the physical engine driving them as much as the armor deflecting them. I've seen more than enough episodes of Modern Weapons and the like illustrate the point by driving high-powered "medieval" crossbow bolts through chain and scale armor enough to satisfy my curiosity. Yes, guns are deadly and provide tons or force. Yes, they should be deadly. I don't think, however, they should be anymore deadly in a world filled with magic than a wand of magic missiles or +1 crossbow.
If we are going to use guns, we're going to stick with the normal AC mechanic. I'm not going with the touch AC. As for choosing your gun, you may start with either a Blacksteel Holdout Pistol or a Dwarven Stinger. Where are these, you ask?
Download the Rhune: Dawn of Twilight Character Guide, the guns are on page 7 (of the pdf).

TarkXT |

I personally prefer the magic missile wand. Has a magazine of 50 has an effective range beyond that of most guns its size and will kill most level 1 commoners in a single shot. Things so accurate and penetrative it doesnt matter what armor they're wearing or how fast they're running. It always hits.

Dear leader Are we using the same maps for the upstairs that we used in the bug fight? If so the sleeping arrangements do not make sense.
The broken window was on the landing, not in a bedroom, so no need for the dwarf to get damp. If you pull up the old map I think the rubble in S-5 is from the window.
Also assuming that map is used, where is Kendra sleeping? On the map we have the Large bedroom and two smaller bed rooms. Call them the north and south bedrooms to distinguish them.
If she gives one to Torthen, one to Madeline and Smith, and one to Thanic and myself. That's it for rooms. Where will She sleep? It also means Torthen is bedding down in the master bedroom.
All minor points I know but I do want know where everyone is supposed to be in case things that bump in the night decide to.
Love the avatar by the way. Fits the theme very nicely.
~Creel
P.S. to Rendel. I am loving the flashbacks. Keep them coming.

No. It's a minor change, but I don't foresee it being a big issue. Kendra's house isn't addressed in the AP and I decided to make it a little bigger. So no, we won't be using the Stirge Map.
Also, it's 3 "other" rooms available. Kendra has her own room.

Hopefully we'll have two new characters by Friday.
ALSO - I'm trying to work out what will be the best way to run maps. I'm looking at MapTools and a few other programs, so you're safe from deadly encounters for a few days. Once I'm happy with something, it's on! ;)

I use maptools for the games I run though I can't speak of its merit in a pbp game.

Well, Rendel's most certainly not the face of the group. Though I suspect he'd make an excellent "Bad Cop" to Creels "Good Cop". I need some people to flex my intimidate score at. This being nice thing just doesn't work. It doesn't help I don't exactly trust anybody yet. Everywhere I look I'm half expecting a zombie paladin to jump out and attempt to feast on my hormone addled brain.
Such is the lot in the life of an inquisitor. ;-_-
Well barring any weirdness stopping Rendel he's going to spend the next day shaking down the town to spill out its secrets. :P

Cool just confused for a moment.
Creel will still make it his business to find out where everyone is supposed to be sleeping.

Though, are you (The Dm) allowing the official Gun-slinger feats to 'mesh' with your own ideas/rules? Such as the "Gun-Smith" feat...?
No, I will not be using the Grit Feats out of the Ultimate Combat Playtest. You are, however, more than welcome to use all of the regular combat Feats with your gun.
I recall seeing the Gunsmithing Feat somewhere before, but my copy of the playtest either doesn't have it or I'm just plain blind (cause' I'm not seeing it). Again, guns aren't going to be common, but we can work together if you'd like to craft your own ammo.
In other news...
The character selection in the old OOC thread is going a lot quicker than I expected. I completely intended to leave this open until Friday, but I'm really digging both Gumz, the Goblin and Vaghn der Graftt. I think both would round out the party quite nicely. What are your thoughts?

I like Vaghn and Gumz. Frankly I am a tad worried how Creel/Rendel the unnamed/Kendra/angry mob will react to a goblin walking into town and asking the way to professor lorrimer's house.
