Nope. There be stray rocks in the way.
Grenwold moves up and swings his glaive, cutting orange in his chest and he falls to the ground.
"Տեսեք, մենք պարզապես մտածում ենք մեր սեփական բիզնեսի մասին," The light blue korred gives an aggrieved yell.
Look we're just minding our own business and you're crashing our party!

Nigel growls at them.
He then hustles forward, slipping and sliding over the rubble.
Double move. I am assuming any square with more than 1/3 rubble is difficult terrain.

"Hey, որ puppy նման գեղեցիկ squeals եւ squirms այնքան հրճվում է, երբ poked է փայտով. Դուք պետք է փորձեք այն երբեւէ:" The dark blue korred replies.
Hey that puppy makes such nice squeals and squirms so delightfully when poked with a stick. You ought to try it sometime.
Ratel and Bear move up and also ready an attack.
The light blue Korred moves east to catch the most number of people, while the dark blue korred picks up a rock and throws it at Grenwold.

Grenwold manages to trip the Korred, and Ratel bashes the korred with his shield and it collapses on the ground.
Searching their bodies, the party finds 2 small clubs and a metal key. The party also finds that some of the stones in the courtyard are pitted as if dissolved by acid, and a couple of black scales.
Sorry for delay, stuck in meeting. I have another tomorrow ><
Also, everyone levels up to 6
The wolf pup whines at Nigel.
Those small two leggers were mean. They put me here and poked me with sticks to see me jump
Nigel Percival Cartwright
|
Nigel retrieves the key, unlocks the cage, and pats the wolf pup consolingly.
He then turns to the others with a look of grim determination on his face.
"I am not saying zat *everyone* residing in zis place is cruel and/or evil, but for zem to find ze torture of a young pup amusing, zey must at least be callous. I vant to clear zis place out, so zey don't harm anyone ever again."
After checking out the cart, he starts moving counter-clockwise around the fort, checking the unexplored areas for more malevolent fey.
| GM Mort |
The heavy wagon against the wall is stacked with 10 gallon wine casks of various vintages. More then half a dozen open and empty barrels are scattered around the wagon but the wagon stil contain 15 full barrels of wine weighing 100 pounds each. Twelve of the barrels contain wine of fair quality and are worth 20 gp each. The remaining three barrels contain good wine and are worth 750 gp each.
There are doors along the keep walls, two at the bottom floors of the three intact towers, one leading out of the keep to the west and one leading into the main entrance.
Longtail licks Nigel from forehead to chin gratefully before giving a howl and limping out of the cage and towards the breach in the wall.
Nigel please position yourself at which door you want to open up. By counterclockwise do you mean the door to the big building?
| GM Mort |
J1
Two massive towers on the western side of this fort are connected by a high wall with a gatehouse festooned in ivy. Mushrooms blossom amid ferns along the ground. The wooden double door of the gatehouse is banded with iron, but one door stands slightly ajar. Nigel spots a strange plant consists of four spidery stalks, long green tendrils, and an inverted bell-shaped cap filled with spores.
Nigel knowledge nature: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Nigel recognizes the plant as a basidirond, and it can release a cloud of invisible spores in a 20-foot radius. All creatures within the area must succeed on a Fortitude save or be affected by powerful hallucinations as long as they remain in the cloud plus 1d4 rounds after leaving the area.
Father Noelan does not manage to find the cold iron arrow that missed the korred. Deduct 4 more cold iron arrows off your inventory, Robert.
| GM Mort |
The Basidirond does not appear to pay any attention to the party for now.
J4
This wooden stable stands against the southern wall of the courtyard. Its large doors are open and askew, hanging drunkenly from damaged hinges. The rank smell of moldering hay emanates from the building. One large but thin horned bull and one large but thin horned cow munch restlessly on moldering straw. As Nigel appears in the stable doorway, they look up warily and give angry snorts.
Nigel knowledge nature: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Nigel recognizes them as oxen. He also thinks they don't care for him very much. Degenerate Aurochs
Step into stables?
| Grenwold Houtvester |
I’m up randomly in the middle of the night, might as well try to resolve things!
Earlier
”Hey guys, do you mind if I took some of this wine and washed off the amber? Theoretically wine would have enough alcohol in it to act like a solvent, could I use some of the cheap stuff and try to scrub this off before we move on?”
If nobody objects, Grenwold will find some white wine and spend a few minutes getting the residue off by using a cloth and wiping it away. He hopes not to use all of the wine in the cask for the task, but if it requires “full body immersion” he will sigh and open a barrel, climb in, and wait for the gunk to dissolve.
Later
”Hey Nigel, would you like me to wrangle those cows for you? I do have a way with ungulates” and he pats Fenton on the neck. Fenton grazes at grass growing in the cracks in the pavers.
| GM Mort |
”Go ahead,” Father Noelan waves Grenwold on magnanimously. ”Can’t have a sticky gnome, you know.”
Grenwold gets from his mess kit a small bowl and pours out some wine, then getting the residue off by using a cloth and wiping it away.
Nigel Percival Cartwright
|
Nigel grins at Gren.
"So, instead of a sticky Gnome, ve'll have a soused one?"
He decides to leave the oxen alone for the moment.
Not wanting to head anywhere near the Basidirond, Nigel instead heads for one of the towers.
Position updated. Walking along the wall, so as to give the plant as wide a berth as possible.
Nigel Percival Cartwright
|
Also, because, apparently, I am an idiot, and had forgotten about this...
Before moving around to the other tower, Nigel remembers something that he can do, and pours a flask of oil into the head of his staff, which he then lights, causing the 'cage' at the apex to burst into flame.
| Ratel Dier |
As the Korred falls Ratel untangles himself from it's beard, Nodding in agreement with Nigel, 'Yes we should finish clearing the place of anyone that would do harm."
When Grenwold inquires about washing off the substance in wine, He smiles and asks, "Do you want me to take the lid off of a barrel and dip you in?"
Seeing Nigel head toward the northwestern tower, he follows along, calling to his animal companion. "Come on Bear we're not going to eat the cow yet so we may as well explore with Nigel."
| Grenwold Houtvester |
Earlier
Gren nods at Nigel, ”I’ll reek of alcohol for a bit - but the worst part is getting all the sugar and tannin on me. I’m lucky there was white wine. That was my second thought Ratel,” and he tests his flexibility a bit. ”Looks like we won’t have to resort to ruining an entire barrel at least. I’m sure the folks at Misthome would appreciate these supplies.”
After level up.
Grenwold casts a few spells, one using his extend rod. He casts discovery torch on his glaive (60 minutes). He casts extended shared training (sharing outflank) on Ratel and Hedran (120 minutes). He casts heightened awareness on himself (60 minutes).
Later, with the aurochs.
Gren approaches the aurochs and says in soothing tones, ”Have you been mistreated? What happened to you.” and examines them from afar for obvious signs of injury or mistreatment.
Knowledge (nature) to know more about them, including discovery torch and heightened awareness: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19
Perception, including discovery torch and heightened awareness: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (12) + 18 = 30
After this, he grab some some higher quality feed from his bag and approaches, trying to keep them calm.
Take 10 on handle animal, if possible, for a total of 20.
| GM Mort |
The Auroches paw the ground nervously, and roll their eyes at Grenwold, looking for a moment that they are about to trample him, then back off as Grenwold speaks to them in soothing tones. Grenwold realizes that they have harness marks on their backs, and have likely been hitched to a cart before. However their fear of two leggers is likely stemmed from recent abuse.
When Grenwold approaches with the higher quality feed, they sniff in the direction of the feed, but still try to keep their distance from Grenwold.
Grenwold finds 7 discarded cold iron horseshoes in the stable and remembers that korreds are superstitious afraid of cold iron horseshoes.
He also realizes that one of the cold iron horseshoes is magical but cannot identify what kind of magic the horseshoe has. Neither can Hedran, for that matter.
Take 10 for spellcraft given
| "Hedran" |
"Thank you Glenwold."
Hedran will stand close by in case something goes wrong.
I assumed that damage and spell use carry over when leveling, please correct me if I'm wrong. I have a couple small things to finish on the character, but it's mostly done.

Two weapon racks stand in this room, although they contain no weapons; instead, short strips of grayish leather that the party recognizes as hobgoblin skin stretches across them. A staircase ascends to the south, and a wooden door leads to the east. The stench of carrion fills this room. Inside the room is an elderly peevish little humanoid wearing metal boots and a blood-red pointed cap, grumbling to herself.
