Looking angrily at the Rapier he procured from the Drow Argent tersely tosses it away saying "that was the best you could do hunh?!? What is wrong with you?? No warnings! No corecting me if I was a bit off with a strike or defense! Who'd want you?" then realizing he was yet again talking aloud to an inanimate object he quickly quieted himself. He then moves to Alric and almost grabs Unraveller out of habit pauses loooks him in the eye and says "May I please have him back? Now!?....Please" Almost looking like a child begging for a toy that is their favorite but have somehow misplaced. Reaching, but not grabbing, for the blade even before it's offered Argent gives a once over to each of his new companions saying "hello I am Argent Helllstrike! welcome to......I dunno....hell maybe?! Pleased to meet you!" Smiles at them for as long as could be considered polite (if it were not for the look of impatience in his eyes) then turn once more toward Alric.

Fort (DC16): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Concentration (DC13): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22

Witness lets out a grunt of pain as the negative energy washes over him, but manages to complete the ritual. A huge bat, limned with holy light, flickers into being over the drow. Swooping down, it snaps at her face.
Bite (smite): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12, Damage: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17

Backing up further out of reach, Witness takes the eyes of a salamander and crushes it, dabbing the powder on his eyelids and chanting almost-recognizable syllables in his baritone rumble.

Casting Burning Gaze on himself.

If anyone can heal me I'd much appreciate it...I'm looking really beat up. :)

Let me know when you are all finished buffing/healing/discussing and we'll move on. Feel free to take advantage of the break in the action to get to know each other, but keep in mind that there are blood curdling screams coming from within the temple.

Witness:
The drow Queen picks herself further out of the entanglement by dropping herself over the daylight spell left behind by the eagle and casting a spell herself while prone. Your eyes, though burning, are blinded. There is an impossible darkness where you stand and it blocks your vision. She goads and curses you in undercommon.

Male Dwarf Druid 5

I thought that according to the SRD, the Darkness spell doesn't block darkvision?

Spoiler:
Magnu go here.

"Does anyone else need healing? I would also suggest we use the other wand so one of us is not stuck with an empty wand later, leaving the group with only one healer."

edit:removed text.

@Witness- Darkness: yes. Deeper Darkness: no.

@All- Due to recent changes with the paizo.com thread system, I'll be working towards reformatting over the next couple of days. IRL, I'm already pretty busy so this will be a slow process, but it should make things run more smoothly.

Male Half Elf Fighter 1/Sorceror 4/Dragon Disciple 2

Im wounded as well. But more importantly, Im down on magic and equipment. I just escaped from the temple, and am not eager to return ill prepared. Does anyone know where they took captured equipment, the armory perhaps?

Alric will give the CMW wand to Casivan for the healing, and will also retrieve his dagger and reset the boot blade.

Male Dwarf Druid 5

Witness circles warily around, letting soothing magic flow into his wounds but keeping his eyes fixed on the pool of shadow.

Sensing its prey through the darkness with it's keen ears, the dire bat continues the attack on the now prone drow.

Hmm look at the pretty stones. the many facets...

Sumatek stows the gems he pried from the drider corpse in his belt pouch and realizes he stil hears screams coming from somwhere.

Bah what a fool I am being distracted so easily. I need to keep my thoughts focused if I am going to get out of here.

Sumatek melts into the darkness and begins to shadow the group. Forgeing ahead of them slightly he keeps his eyes on the shadows and his senses on the ground. Scaning the area for pitfalls and traps came as 2nd nature to him.

That would be a knowledge local check right? :P

Sumatek finds a hashed together trap attached to the locked door. He carefully unhinges the gears as a scythe blade falls harmlessly down, disabled. The door itself, however remains locked firmly.

To Alric's questioning, a human in the group speaks up. "Aye, there is an armourie, Off south thar. Its.. He is interrupted by the same gnome who spoke earlier. " Can't you hear those screams? People are dying and you're worried about collecting loot!?! Come on, Let's get'em! " With this the masses of slaves rush into the temple and mow down the door that Sumatek has just moments ago made safe. The clatter of weaponry and the release of magic can be heard down the hallway, and then there is quiet. Rushing down the hall after the mob, you find a sparse collection of slaves remaining. The drow have been successfully routed, but not without cost. In particular, you note that Miro has thrown his life away by taking a blade for an emprisoned woman. The ritual dagger still protrudes from his back.

Witness:
You wriggle to the opposite side of the compost heap, but you still cannot see anything. You think you hear the bat inside the darkness striking against metal. You also hear the sounds of casting, which go uninterrupted.

Knowledge local, yes.

Alric's spell successfully removes Casvian's ring.

male Halfling rogue 6

The noise from that crowd makes being unnoticed a lot easier. I will have to thank some of them if they survive

Sumatek continues his searching and moves forward of the group as they move down the hall.

Now speaking to Edelle, Now miss....um, I don't believe I got your name. But, if you would care to join me Im going to search the armory, Perhaps your weapon is there as well.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Sumatek: You advance cautiously down the hallway to where the battle has quickly passed over. The scene is a mixed melancholy. Some people sit triumphant, kicking the bodies of their previous captors. Others rub the place where their chains had held them captive for so very long. Still others hold their loved ones and friends lost in the massacre. you blend well against the wall and no one notices you. You note a hidden switch near an upturned table, which you suspect opens a hidden passage. The chains that just moments ago were attaching slaves to the floor are gradually clattering off as a key is passed around. You note in particular a drying stain from a cupboard of canopic jars, which has been overturned.

Female Human Monk 7

Sorry, I'm Edelle, Edelle Flexhorn. I think that heading off to the armoury to get better equipped is a very prudent step. I'm no coward but I don't mind attempting to level the playing field before attempting to slaughter these slavers. Lets do this the right way

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Edelle, Alric, and anyone else who is so inclined, head to the armoury. They find the doors unlocked and push them open. There are a number of weapons and armours in various states of repair. You can tell that this place has recently been raided for supplies because there are some objects carelessly knocked over. In any case, you take stock of the room:

6 breastplates, hvy steel shields, quarterstaves, and mw rapiers
1 longsword, greatsword, and greataxe
3 wooden bucklers and hide armour
4 hand crossbows.
80 xbow bolts
2 composite longbows (+1 strength rating)
50 arrows
10 daggers
Various semi-repaired items.

You are entitled to perception checks if you like

Male Dwarf Druid 5

Witness holds action to blast the drow with his laser eyes as soon as he gets a change. Bat continues to attack.

While disappointed in not finding his own items, Alric will be taking a number of items for himself, and then bundling as much as he can to distribute to allies. Taking a mw rapier, a longbow and arrows, and half the daggers. Also begins contemplating what his allies might need.

Can I assume Casivan healed me before I left?

I would like the arrows unless someone else wants some.

edit:Who has the other wand? Better yet am I the only person that can use a cure wand? Alric I will subtract your heals from the wand I am carrying?

Male Half Elf Fighter 1/Sorceror 4/Dragon Disciple 2

Alric had the other wand, so i guess subtract from that one. Also, With reduced strength and no magic left to speak of, I was going to be using the bow for a bit.

While Alric has UMD, witness and casivan are the only true users for cure wands.

Female Human Monk 7

Perception check: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19

I'll take a pair of quarterstaves for my self on the off chance I need to hit something I don't want to touch, also the other half of the daggers will be handy. And carry a pair of MW rapiers for who ever wants them.

Your eclectic group of survivors patch themselves up and gather their equipment. There remain only two directions that have not fully been explored. One to the south, between the armoury and the temple. You are told that this is the plantation where food is supplied to the drowcity. Some of the now ex-slaves claim to have seen something or someone going in that direction. From the dim light in the area, you are still able to detect some recent footprints in the earth leaving the armoury. The tracks are more difficult to follow once outside, but they appear to be very weighted down and to veer towards the direction you have yet to explore. The other option would be the opposite direction, north. Alric came roughly from this direction, but there is a fork in the cave system not far from here. No one seems to know what is down that path, even from speaking to the survivors.

As a last minute decision I grab a hand-crossbow and 20 bolts and head out.
Hand-crossbows attract an exotic weapon tax?! That's lame, they are just a small crossbow for use with one hand. In use it's essentially a pistol!
Throwing the other hand-crossbows to people without ranged weapons: Guy's grab these, those driders can climb. There is sign that something headed the other way, it's time to kill some more dark beasties!

We (or at least I) head down the path that the heavy thing went.

male Halfling rogue 6

Hmm that switch there may be something worth checking out. But then again maybe not. Bah I have to see what it does!!

A small crawlspace hatch is released from behind where a tapestry once hung on the wall. A number of the slaves are startled by this. The attention drawn to this movement would make it nearly impossible to sneak down that tunnel at the moment.

Witness:
Something about this trap seems fabricated. The hole under you seems real enough, but you don't fall through even though you should have.

Male Dwarf Druid 5

Resolving to ignore the fell magic, in traditional dwarf fashion, Witness begins casting again.

Male Half Elf Fighter 1/Sorceror 4/Dragon Disciple 2

Hey, wait! Edelle, where are you going?
Runs too catch up

Everyone please check here.

male Halfling rogue 6

The crowd of slaves looked as if they had seen the trapdoor snap open.

I had better just wait on searching that door, those slaves may find themselves tripping a larger problem than they had asked for. I'll head back to the group and give a quick breakdown of what i found here.

Silently keeping to the shadows Sumatek backtracks to where the group was when he last saw them.

Hmm i thought the woman was going to the armory to recover some weapons but i dont see them. Great now they are moving on with out seeing if all are around. They should be easy enough to track i hope.

Coming to what looks to be a south and north route Sumatek searches to see which way they may have gone.

It looks as if they went south, as well as something large guessing from the tracks. I'll have to keep the whits about me and try and stay under shadow till I find them.

Your group assembles as head down south to track the heavy beasts. Even with very hard ground and no tracks to follow now, the tunnel is linear so it is unlikely that you have missed anything. Sumatek takes point and shoots himself forward into the shadows. After a short time walking, you hear the sounds of struggling up ahead. Sumatek finds himself entangled in a gigantic web that blocks the tunnel off. Initiative, and first turns There is a cackling sound and movement from the other side of the web, further down the tunnel. You cannot see anything from this distance, but a bolt comes whizzing by and clattering loudly against the cave wall.

Witness:
From out of the darkness, the drow queen dives at you, rapier drawn, but instead of stabbing you with it, she punches with an open palm. Where she touches, your skin unravels and burns as it begins to bleed. 1 damage

Round 1 Initiative 23- Sumatek, ???
17 Edelle, Alric
15-Thundrik (botted?)
14-Argent(botted?)
11-Casvian

As the arrow flies through, Sumatek's twitch reflexes kick in, to his detriment as he finds himself sunk further into the webbing. Edelle comes forward to help get him out. She gets most of the way through with one graceful slice, but has not quite gotten Sumatek unstuck. Alric buffs up Edelle with the precious last reserves of his magical force. He feels mundane and drained, but he resolves that he still has the will of a fighter and the blood of the great beasts. Argent, Thundrik, and Casvian stand ready for whatever may come next. Thundrik peers as far into the darkness as his darkvision permits, but he can see nothing. through the webs as they tug and move.

Round 2- A second bolt is fired, but from out of the darkness, there comes a true volley of these arrows, tightly packed in the narrow tunnel. 2 arrows hit Sumatek in the back. 5 damage and a Fortitude save, please two more arrows glance away harmlessly and skitter into the darkness behind you.

Witness:
You successfully summon your swarm, despite the harm to your body. You are able to channel the ancients who came before you and gain focus to finish the spell. The drow is able to shrug off your scorching glare, but the bats appear to pull at her body terribly, and flesh is torn readily from the body in the anarchy. She attacks you with her ornate rapier at fullest fervour. Her first attack cuts incredibly deep, but after withdrawing the point from your side, her second jab doesn't even pierce. Your wound still bleeds aswell, causing you to wince at the ongoing damage. 13 damage total

Male Human 59/66 hp Ranger(guide variant) 6

"Why didn't I think of that?"

Casvian changes from the bow to the Falchion as his action. On the next turn he will try cut the web away.

Lets keep trying to cut Sumatek out / our way further along the passage:
Attack:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Damage:1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

When Casvian catches on to Edelle's idea, he makes quick work of the first layer of webbing and Sumatek is released. Thundrik, with his darkvision tells you there are still more layers of webbing to breaks through though. Unless someone would like to present a light source, you are all effectively blind in the darkness. You can ret-con your actions keeping in mind that Sumatek is now free and that there is still more webbing to break through.
