Just a short note to say that I am still here and floating - just slammed with work at the moment (as he says posting 2AM in the morning after finishing some take home work).
Update will be coming, at some point soonish. I'd prefer to wait till I've got a block of time to make it not suck, rather than put something half-hearted up.

So, I was looking through Paths of Prestige, and I saw the Lantern Bearer on page 32. It isn't up on the SRD yet, but it's a full BAB class that nets you a lot of spell-like abilities, some weapon enhancement, and some favored enemy stuff. Also, it's elf/half-elf only. Overall, I liked it, and I'm wondering what class is best for leading into it.
That doesn't sound like a very good fit for Cynara. A ranger would probably do better going into it.

Ernst "Love" Lowfield |

Sides as a full caster oracles need to think long and hard about stepping out of class for either prestige or multi classing. I am playing a Nature oracle in another PBP and I am not going to change. As a clouded vision oracle you may not want to consider any movement out of class before 5th. Being able to see 60 feet is a big change.

Considering a new house rule: Squad Stealth
The modus operandi moving forward is obviously to use Love as a forward scout, but I'd like to maintain a bit more of a group party feel as you explore together.
So I'd like to propose that Love could lead all of you with him on scouting with the following restrictions:
- Party members are assumed to be as stealthy as the lead character, until they take independent action.
- The stealth lead must remain at the head of the group, and the group will be reliant upon his Stealth and Perception rolls - until independent action is taken.
- If independent action (spell casting, moving away from the group, attacking) is taken then that character rolls their own Stealth and is held to it.
- Knowledge checks, whispers and other quiet activities do not count as independent action
Essentially would let any or all of you accompany Love forward without increasing the risk of the action - until you choose to act upon it.
Thoughts?

Weekend being weekend henceforth the lackage of postage.
DM VoV will be flying out of Malaysia and back into Australia on 28th September and will be visiting family for a couple of weeks through to the 15th of October. While I should still be able to check in periodically it will likely cause a few interruptions and my posts may involve a little more brevity than usual.
I'll definitely try to keep things ticking over in thread, but it's highly unlikely to be daily.

Cynara |

2000 posts in the Game thread! And our one-year anniversary passed unnoticed a few weeks ago...how'd we all miss that? Congratulations on all counts, all, and thank you to our fearless DM for keeping us going!

Dolgrym Sharpaxe |

DM, I'd assume our little excursion did not count as retaking the Transcept, did it? I'd like to write and update the Highhelm Council, but I want to be sure it is at the right time.

Dolgrym Sharpaxe |

LOL, I thought that was the case, but then I remembered us hammering the spike in there to show there was a new sheriff in town! I figured that gesture didn't really count, though.

Abridged from Serpent's Skull #3: Expedition to Saventh-Yhi
Campsite Scores:
Defense: protects against wandering monsters / minor skirmishes from without and within the mine. I'd also use this as a measure of the military strength of the campsite - for use during seiges, or if you deploy some of the camp off on their own to engage an enemy.
Exploration: this was the score to measure discovering the mysteries of Saventh-Yhi and map the interior. I'd change this to 'Research' or something similar and use it as a means of tracking how much of Zolurket's history you've uncovered?
Supply: used for both repairing a camp if it's damaged, or for sourcing resupplies from Solku. Selling items and buying specific ones.
The general thrust of the Serpent's Skull rules was to allow for an abstraction of the race between the different factions in forging towards the final goal of understanding the ruin's mysteries. This was also pitted against the various communities within the town itself.
One question would be - do you want to run the Dark Stalkers, Gnolls, etc as a 'campsite' as well? or still treat them as static opponents.

Dolgrym Sharpaxe |

I'm fine with whatever the group decides, DM. I've never used this system, and I'm interested to see how it works.

Cynara |

Is the exploration number an abstraction of what's taking place in the camp while the party is rambling through Tar-Urkatha, or an abstraction of what the party's doing in the mine?

Padrym Steelribs |

I vote for a high defense and to run the others as camps. The system itself lends itself to quick resolution of NPC camp interaction such as attacks and easy tracking of progress through Research rolls and repair and magical equipment through Supply.

The original number was a reflection of both for SS - in that the camp generated it on it's own, and the party's actions also raised it. In that case it was a race to 100 against the other camps.
Here I think it should again be another combination - which can be affected by both your actions as well as that of the camp. Perhaps reflecting a measure of how well you have mapped / understood the Grand Transept - as well as a re-learning of the Lore of Zolurket.

Slowdown is due to the fact that I was wrestling with a sick 7-month old all weekend, who was producing excrement that came out at about Dublin Bay 3 on the Dulux colour chart.
He got admitted to hospital today with pneumonia (hopefully just a couple of days stay - our eldest has had a couple of bouts of it and bounced back pretty quick) and I've been running interference with our eldest and so forth. Worst part so far was watching the doctor trying to hit a vein when putting in the IV for antibiotics... she stuck him three separate times - digging around each time with the needle and still couldn't hit a vein. Ended up giving up and falling back on oral antibios for now.
Will hopefully only take a couple of days to get past it and back into the swing of things - but just wanted you guys to know that I'll be out of action DM wise during that time.

Cynara |

Ah, I remember those days...and I don't miss that part of parenthood one bit. Good luck! Although IME the hospitalizations can continue for quite a while; seeing my daughter through appendicitis and gall bladder surgery when she was 17-18 was not fun.

Feigr Roarrgun |

Our first one had to spend quite a bit of time in the hospital when he was first born. I remember us coming in and they had moved the IV to his head because the had run out of other places to keep sticking him. I don't miss that part either. Good luck getting everyone healthy and take your time. Don't get yourself knocked out sick too!

Ouch - IV to the head sounds a bit extreme... and would be a super pain in the butt for trying to keep them settled.
The nastiest medical issue I've ever had to see was my dad getting skin grafts after he managed to burn both his legs and a hand doing car work. (Was grinding down an old VW gearbox - which are a magnesium alloy. In true Aussie safety fashion he was wearing thongs and shorts and no gloves... hit a steel bolt and woof - up he went). Big rectangular patches of red raw skin barely covered by gauze - and my Dad who was usually very in control of himself hooped up on morphine and completely out of it.
Little un seems to be doing a bit better today - though still wheezy phlegmy coughy. Probably not getting him back home tomorrow, though fingers crossed.
