I don't think you can get to him and attack; you can doublemove and get to him, and attack him next round, or you can attack the giant once with a single move.....

Beldan moves to L3, makes sure he’s not standing directly in front of the hole and investigates the door – search, listen the whole deal.
There's nothing to lead Beldan to believe the door is trapped.
Beldan tries to open the door, quietly.
Nothing untoward happens;
Beldan finds a good sized room, with a carpet running down the center to the door on the north, and ornate furniture on either side of the carpet, and nothing else besides a small, exotic, unknown species of rainbow feathered songbird in an exquisite golden cage, singing to noone in particular.
Beldan looks carefully about the room without entering.
