Hawcroft Logging: A Fork in the Road

Game Master TheLogicOfCrocodiles

The party is split, one group defending the river gate and another exploring the oddly quiet hallways of the nearby dwarven hillfort, both groups experiencing something of a breather from the assaults of those afflicted by the unfolding plague.

You did have a nice chat!

If it's a 12hr night, do the ppl on the first and last watch get a good night of sleep to recover HP's? That's usually how we do it for my tabletop game and we try to make sure the casters get a full night of rest so they can recover their spells too.

Serpents Skull Fighter 1 | AC: 17, T: 12, FF: 15 | HP 12/13 | CMD: 16 | F +5, R +2, W +1 | Init: +2 | Perc: +3 (+2 Metal or Gems) | Hammers (5/5)

Time of Day: A divine spellcaster chooses and prepares spells ahead of time, but unlike a wizard, does not require a period of rest to prepare spells. Instead, the character chooses a particular time of day to pray and receive spells. The time is usually a ssociated with some daily event. If some event prevents a character from praying at the proper time, she must do so as soon as possible. If the character does not stop to pray for spells at the first opportunity, she must wait until the next day to prepare spells.

Clerics don't need rest to prepare in pathfinder. But we should do our best to accommodate Joseph and Silas.

I like simplicity when it comes to play by post - as long as you sleep at night in a reasonably safe environment (such as a camp with people taking watch), you can count your rest as uninterrupted even if you end up taking a middle watch. Of course, casters would probably still prefer last watch, because their spells wouldn't be refreshed until they've had a decent period of sleep, but the unfortunately-placed watch won't interfere with their ability to case the next day as long as they get back to sleep.

Effectively, I'm willing to be flexible for the sake of party harmonics. The uninterrupted rest thing is an area of the spell-regeneration thing that I never really liked that much, if I'm honest - I've never really enforced it unless characters were woken early in the night and not given the chance to sleep again.

Very nice! On both accounts, clerics not needing rest and your flexibility, Gatsby. Now that you mention it Harbek, I think I might have known that and forgotten it. Many years of 3.5 vs. about 7 months of PF so I often get mixed up or forget. Thanks for your guidance.

I've been playing pathfinder for at least a couple of years. I played 4th before that and 3.5 before fourth (and 3rd before 3.5) it's hard not to get mixed up! Happens to me all the time.

Don't worry Caveth - same problem here!

You estimate that the camp is covered by about half a foot of running water in places, although the surrounding forest looks less waterlogged.

Almost waist deep - this'll be quite dangerous.

Ha! Sorry, little halfling!

It's okay, that's really on just above my knees.

Until the flash flood... ;)

Male Human Alchemist 1

Or the dire mudskippers....

Thinking Ear Piercing Scream for that last spell; a study of the effect used on him.

Prof, check the spoiler on my earlier post to silas about it if you like/ The mould, I mean.

Sheet HP 9/12

Silas is going to need about an hour to study, then he'll do the autopsy. Not sure how long till that happens.
incidentally, will be the same loadout as previously, but this time also with mending, guidance and a second blank 1st level slot.

No updates until tomorrow, I'm afraid - real life has proven something of a nuisance today. Apologies. Gatsby.

Sheet HP 9/12

That's a great autopsy, GM Gatsby!

Now Silas is throwing around conjectures about who is infected and who is not, ramping up the paranoia... but it is just an opinion... based on evidence he can't tell any one because the autopsy doesn't support it!

Love it :)

There are now two maps in the campaign info tab, one for the camp and one for the general area.

Sheet HP 9/12

How big is the boat? I'm seeing a ship's rowboat, with room for about 8 OR luggage

Sheet HP 9/12

Does this mean the river will take us through the sawmill on the way out?

You can easily drag the boat past the sawmill after loading it but before getting in and actually casting off, due to the river's swollen nature - and it's a bit more like a barge, quite wide but not too long, poled rather than rowed. About twenty five feet in length and fifteen wide. Normally used for carrying more delicate cuts of timber, so will easily take all of you. There were bigger and smaller boats there, but they were either too damaged or carried away in the overflow.

Don't forget the dog. ;)

Strong show from Caveth...

Prisoners are such a pain in the butt! If only I were a murderhobo rather than a cleric with a conscience. I'd "put him out of his misery" myself.

What a... lovely... sentiment? ;)

You handled it well though. You gave an ultimatum for a logical reason, acting in character.

HP 18/22 AC 16 T 13 FF 13 CMD 15 CMB +2 Fort +6 Ref +3 Will +4 Init +5 Perc +6 Longbow +4, 1d8+1 Light Mace +4, 1d6+1

Thanks for saying, Gatsby.

Silas, I have played many characters who would agree with you, it just happens this guy is not one of them, so it's nothing personal. Hope I didn't ruffle any feathers by what might seem like implying you are a murder hobo. I was being self deprecating rather than accusatory but humour can be difficult to communicate over the internet :)

I think we got what you were going for, don't worry. Well, I did!

Sheet HP 9/12

Caveth - thanks for the clarification. Silas is a pretty cold fish and I'm happy someone called him on it.

A strong argument by the professor, both for mercy (of a sort) and isolation.

Silas puts his final point of the scenario across well - to get any understanding of what is affecting these people you'll need tools, textbooks and potentially outside help - a safe-house outside of the city walls would be an ideal place to take care of your wounds, discover what you can and still be far enough away from Barrjka to prevent a potential outbreak starting with your captive.

LOL I saw "quarantine horse" the first time I read your post Kay

No problem, Kip! Lets get this boat-show underway!

Went to see the Doctor Who symphonic spectacular today. Lots of fun, I'll upload some pictures and link to them later :) I'm now waiting to board in the airport to fly back to Sydney.

No, let's get the show-boat underway. You gotta love a musical on a cruise ship, right?! Oklahoma anyone?

That sounds amazing! Where was it?

HP: 17 / 28 | Halfling Barbarian

Ooh, Giligan's Island: The Musical.
I want to be Ginger.

Is Roland an NPC?
Do we have a new GM?

A new GM? No, I love you all too much to hand you over.

Roland is our guest for the scenario, a wildcard NPC who has some direction from me as to his goal but can go about it any way he chooses to. I wanted to add a little element of random into your encounter at the gate, seeing as it's the last barrier between you and your own current destination, and Roland is both familiar enough with the world to act as a sort-of-NPC for the duration of the scenario and has an established reason to be around Barrjka and in cahoots with Hawcroft. He won't be leaving the gate with you, so make the most of him while he's around.

If you'd like to get a measure of him as a character or roleplayer, he's the deFacto party leader of the Phantom Limbs game Ikarida, the city of leaves, mostly by virtue of being not insane.

Oh, and Kay? You can be Ginger. :)

HP: 17 / 28 | Halfling Barbarian

That's awesome then, and the same goes for Roland too.

He can also be Ginger? ;)

Male Human Alchemist 1

No, he can be Meadowlark Lemon

This week has been rough, I'm really stressed out at the moment. Sorry if I've been a little absent.

Don't worry, Kip - as much as we try to block it out with internet fantasy swordfights, real life gets to even the best of us once in a while. Take all the time you need. ;)

Also, encounter map!

So what you're saying is... more insanity? I think I can find a reason for that.

I've placed myself on the map but I haven't posted because I thought I had my one thing to do before you move the bad guy next. I will gladly take another shot if that is on the table though!

You can go for another shot, Caveth, no problem.

Hmm, some of the map is missing. I'll check back later and move myself once it's repaired. And then I will probably drown with the way I've been rolling lately. Woo.
