No, Phoenix averages like 107 Fahrenheit in July. It's not that a heat wave is coming in, it's that summer is a heat wave.

Luthor Rowe |

Its amazing what acclimation will do to perception of ones surroundings, isnt it :P?
Sounds like you would be miserable in Denmark, Laliytsa. At least until you got acclimated. We average around 10 degrees over a full year, probably even less. A few years back, in January, I was out riding my bike early in the morning, and it was literally so cold, the hair in my nose froze and I could "FEEL" them in there. I was weird as all hell.

Cyanne Miller |

Chris --
I have a question about Cyanne's cold resistance. Would her cold resistance affect any damage taken from exposure to cold and snow?
Hmm

GM Aest |

When I looked that up this morning to see, the answer seemed to be yes, your resistance does have an affect on weather damage. It didn't care whether the damage was magical or mundane. That being said, I'm not a rules expert.

GM Aest |

Yeah. I think that's how it works, at least. This game has so many rules...

Kazimir Vasilovich |

Sorry for my silence. There was a disturbance at home, so I pretty much hightailed it out. Haven't had much Internet access.

Cyanne Miller |

Kaz, that doesn't sound good! Here's hoping that things settle down for you!
I'm also slow posting but that's because I'm at a convention. I'll try to get in at least one post a day while I'm here, but between the kids and GMing tables, I'm going to be swamped for the next few days.
That wand of burning hands could be triggered automatically by either Daen or Luthor. Which one of you would like to carry it?

GM Aest |

Hope everyone (who it's relevant to) had a nice holiday, and everyone else had a nice day!
@Kaz: Sorry to hear that, Kaz. As always, I'm available via PM if you feel the need to vent.

Daen Aheritor |

I'd like Daen to have the wand, Burning Hands is a good spell to have near the front lines, and hopefully we won't have Luthor in the front lines. Also, thematically I've always planned on having Daen become a wand wielder, even taking the arcana that lets him up DC's of wands and the one that lets him use them in spell combat.
I originally planned Daen to have the half elf race trait Arcane Training. Well, he still has it anyway, since I'm not going to multi class with him. It says that he can use a spell trigger item as if one level higher. I thought it would be a way to make wands even cooler, since I'd be able to up the caster level by one on them for basically free. Then the rules forum told me that the official ruling was that half-elves could use the item as if they were one level higher, not the item. Meaning it would only work for spell trigger items that I was too low level to cast or Staves. But I still liked the concept, so I stuck with it, and it's not like wands aren't useful.
We have a paladin in one of our home games, and using his early entry lesser restoration in a first level wand has been lots of good times. We've burned through a couple of those wands already. And my sorcerer loves his wand of Bestow Grace, especially since his UND is so high.
All that being said, Luthor can have the wand if he wants, as Daen does have other things to do in combat, like swing a sword. So it's really no big deal.

Kazimir Vasilovich |

Everyone - I'm safe, and physically fine. Mentally, far from it. Suffice to say I'm pretty shaken, and my depression is really kicking my butt right now. GM, I'll send you a PM with a few more details, just to avoid dragging this down too much. I'm not going anywhere, but my posting might slow, just because I'm so addled. Be patient with me, please.

GM Aest |

@Kazimir: Take whatever time you need. However, we're getting close to one of the three "dungeons" in this book, so I may bot you in combat to keep things rolling along (1/day, I'll give you time), if that's alright with you.

Kazimir Vasilovich |

I don't mind being botted within combat. Don't be offended if I post in combat but not RP, though - combat is easy, even when I'm depressed and mind-fogged. Tactically, Kaz is pretty easy to figure out, if you need to bot.

BretI |

Looking between his own horse and Rikka, he whispered. "You know, we really need a name for the horse. Does it already have one? I forget." He mumbled, looking the horse in the eyes. "Maybe ill ask the others for suggestions? Or should we just come up with one of our very own Rikka?" Rikka nodded enthusiastically.
Sounds like the making of a song.
Are you just taunting Cyanne by waiting until she was out of earshot?

Laliytsa Iansoh |

Weird, I rolled a stealth too. But it won't show. Maybe they changed their policy on edits?
It ended up being a 19.
Testing: 1d20 ⇒ 8
This stayed at 8 no matter what I did. But I swear the board has eaten things before.

Kazimir Vasilovich |

Dammit. Now that song is stuck in my head. Though I guess the good news is it beats out this...

Cyanne Miller |

Luthor, that wasn't me that asked about taunting Cyanne.
Bret, that song really fits this game. Why didn't I think of it?

Kazimir Vasilovich |

Kazimir Vasilovich wrote:Dammit. Now that song is stuck in my head.Achievement unlocked, Earworm!
I am horribly prone to earworms. A quick list of the most common songs I get stuck in my head:
- Dead or Alive - You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)
- Men Without Hats - Safety Dance
- Mushroomhead - Crazy (originally by Seal)
- Scotland the Brave
- Dschinghis Khan - Moskau
- God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen
- Icehouse - Electric Blue
- Genesis - Invisible Touch
- Iron Maiden - The Trooper
I'm pretty certain my brain hates me. Though I'll never complain about Maiden.

GM Aest |

THE TROOOOOOOOOOPER!
Sorry. I had the live version on my Ipod for a while. I have "Jesus BUilt My Hotrod" in my head. By Ministry. It's really quite unfortunate.

Kazimir Vasilovich |

UP THE IRONS! WOOOOOOOO!
I saw Iron Maiden at Soundwave a few years ago. Bloody fantastic. I'd see them again in a heartbeat, damn the costs. (Might need to sell a non-vital organ, but it'd be worth it.)
Man, I gotta listen to more Maiden again. I've been on a German power metal binge lately, I think it's time for a change.

GM Aest |

I was into symphonic metal for a bit, but then my friends dragged me to a 2-day EDM festival in Seattle, Washington last year. Diversified me quite nicely.

Kazimir Vasilovich |

My first introduction to heavy metal was Ayreon, a Dutch prog-metal project, and it blew my little 14-year-old mind. The Human Equation is still one of my favourite albums of all time. My heart belongs to 80s thrash, though, and what Aussie doesn't love a bit of Acca Dacca (that's AC/DC to you foreigners)?
However, I was brought up listening to Elvis Presley, Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Edinburgh military tattoo, ABBA, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Meatloaf, and a crazy amount of country music. It's all kind of stayed with me, and in return, I've been introducing my family to metal. My father loves Iron Maiden, and my mother has agreed to come to an Alestorm gig with me next time they're in town, which will be hilariously good.

Daen Aheritor |

I grew up in a household that was sheltered. I didn't really listen to popular music until after I turned 16. Now I have appreciation for nearly every genre. I have to deal with a few earworms myself, but part of that problem is my kids can't stop singing them. I've been suffering/enjoying Bacon Pancakes for weeks.
I also just got a 200 CD player from my dad's store when he shut down for retirement. We filled it up and put it on shuffle and I've been listening to everything from Barbershop to Thrift Shop. The kids are prone to Beethoven's Wig, and I get particularly happy when we get Clapton or a few other of my faves.

GM Aest |

I wrote a paper on Pink Floyd that I presented at the Phi Alpha Theta (history honor society in the USA) national history conference. I said that The Wall was actually a biography of British societal unheavals during and after World War Two. The songs (coupled with the film) represented a search for identity in the post-imperial world in which Great Britain had thrived, with Comfortably Numb being period right before the rise of the British National Front. It got mixed reviews.
I'm so sorry, Daen. That sounds awful.

GM Aest |

Yeah, this map makes it difficult to tell where people want to be, since the connecting tunnels between rooms don't really exist. I just kind of moved Cyanne onto the map and called it good.

GM Aest |

Um, nope. They have darkvision so they don't mind at all.

Cyanne Miller |

Apparently, we were thinking along the same lines at the same time... This love was meant to be!
EDITED to ADD:
GM, the description of the mites was hysterical. I'm still laughing about it.

Laliytsa Iansoh |

I listen to all the music. Broadway tunes, heavy metal, trip hop, country, alternative, old school rap, blues, punk, rockabilly, pop, techno...geeze I could keep going. Letting me make you a mix is a fun russian roulette of songs. Classic 70's rock followed by Swedish Electric Pop with a chaser of Ambient Alternative music? Heck yes!

GM Aest |

@Cyanne: Well, luckily for you there are plenty more mites in this ridiculous cave, so...

GM Aest |

I feel obligated to mention that the description for the mites uses "pathetic" at least three times, and there's a synonym for "pathetic" in every area of the cave except one. Expect pathetic, or be disappointed.

Cyanne Miller |

The very first PFS scenario I GMed featured lots of mites with jazz hands and "Doooooooom!"
I've had people who've played with me even post "Doooooooom!" with their RSVP when they see me GM.
I love mites, pathetic as they are.

GM Aest |

That's pretty awesome, Cyanne! I'll have to think about this...

Cyanne Miller |

No doom song.
Oh, why didn't I think to equip Cyanne with a long spear? That would work well in the current situation. Hindsight...

Daen Aheritor |

There's always time to reequip later. I have a feeling, Daen will want at least a Cold Iron Dueling Sword on hand, maybe some silversheen or Mithral, and eventually just plain Adamantine. It's good to have your bases covered when it comes to DR.
Later on, having just high bonuses works in the actual game, but in my home game, my GM waived that rule just because he doesn't like it. You have to have the proper metal or alignment to bypass (or smite, that works). He says it makes it more fun.

GM Aest |

I looked up the "doom song". I got Invader Zim. Right one?

Cyanne Miller |

I have cold iron arrows and a light silver mace, a plain boring rapier and two different whips. But do I have a spear? No!
I do get tired of the golf bag of weapons required in Pathfinder sometimes... Oh well, I can sing. That's worth something, right?
EDITED to ADD:
For the record, I did not inflict the doom song on my poor players. Just jazz hands and high-pitched spooky voices.
