Tagolan Knocks an arrow in his bow and starts to head out alongside Talirin, moving a bit slower to be more stealthy.
Ohh great dice gods hear my cry
Track, looking for signs of tunneling and possibly a new smell: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Brennus Rassam |
Brennus nods, then walks back to the workshop. After he's cleared everyone out, he takes his armor off and starts the ritual that calls for the power of his ancestral line, focusing it through his ancestral armor. Afterwards, he ritually redons the armor, and is ready for battle.
This takes the whole hour.
Brennus has 6 Mental Focus
He invests 3 in Abjuration, giving him a +1 resistance bonus to all saving throws, and 3 in Transmutation, giving him a +2 enhancement bonus to Dex.
Brennus exits his workshop, his armor gleaming in the torchlight. "Here I am. May our ancestors guide us to victory."
Rose Reneva |
After they get about 40 feet away Rose begins to follow after them.
Tagolan Xeris |
Tagolan readies his bow, but otherwise continues the same as before. If it is we are all going to die. Smells reptilian yes. But I don't think it is a dragon. Though... I have been wrong before Tagolan will whisper back.
My guesses: Kobolds Near a Forge. Orcs near a forge. A Dragon. Kobold empire. Lizardfolk. Kobold Sorcerer. Lizardfolk Shaman. Ok... so there is a lot of possibilities. It's not always dragons.
Rose Reneva |
Serpentfolk Rose begins to whisper. I don't know your skills. What can you do?
Rose Reneva |
Rose grabs her hand crossbow and keeps it at the ready.
Tall Tale Teller |
Tagolan Xeris |
Curses! Tagolan whispers. There has to be a way to plug the fog.
Tagolan will search the snakemen, hoping to find a cloth to cover his face nose and mouth with. Then he will begin an actual search of their bodies.
Tal, I think I have a plan. there is a hole there, but the ruble has disappeared. Run and Find Benny. Tell him to get as much Black powder as possible. We are going to attempt to collapse this cavern and thus, plug the hole.
Please tell me you have a better plan.
How well would that work? I assume it has not been done before. Also this is assuming that the purple fog does not simply diffuse, making itself harmless. And that the lack of description of the state of the ruble is accurate, and there is no way to plug the hole.
Tagolan Xeris |
Tagolan puts the knives in his backpack, ties the cloth around his nose and mouth, and grabs the staff.
This looks awesome. I'll take it. Odds are I can't use it if it has magic, but I'll carry it around until we find out what it does. he says.
Could we plug the hole with the fifty bodies? Could smoke drive away the fog? How much does the cloth covering actually help? Is there anything we know about the fog, or is this like Attack on Titan where we know nothing?
Rose Reneva |
I think he means the cavern we walked down.
Tall Tale Teller |
Tagolan Xeris |
Here are a few questions.Just ball parking exactly the danger.
Could we pull a George Washington at Valley Forge, and inoculate our people to the fog?
Is it like the Mists in the Mistborn Trilogy so that only certain people are affected?
Is there a known magical way to deal with it?
Approximately how long until it reaches Talirin and I?
Does this staff have any way to counter the mist because I and my character would probably swing it about hoping something good would happen.
On a scale of 1-Dead how dead are we if we can't find a solution?
Tagolan Xeris |
Brennus! Rose! The Fog has gotten into this Cavern. We have maybe ten minutes to come up with a plan to deal with it. My best idea is blow up the tunnel entrance to this cavern, yes the tunnel you are in, to top the fog from reaching the general populace. There are fifty dead snake men, and I did the math. Its not enough to block the hole from the surface!
Final dumb question could we make a wall of bodies using the snake men to block the entrance from the tunnel 300 style, and then build a wall there or would that be pointless?
Rose Reneva |
S~&%, check for survivors! Benny, how much powder do you have?
Tagolan Xeris |
They are all dead! I checked. Got a cool looking staff off one of them. And some nice daggers. I'll spread the daggers around. They have kinda been eviscerated. I can stab them all again if you'd like
Spellcraft to attempt to identify the staff, if it is magical.: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

Tagolan cannot figure out if the staff is magical or not. Tag looks at the bodies then look at the tunnel mouth. It looks like blocking it with the corpses is very much an option.
Tagolan Xeris |
I have a plan! he shouts, and begins to drag the snakemen bodies over to the entrance. I need help. We need to make a wall of bodies. The get guards to watch this area, unless we decide to blow it up.
Rose Reneva |
Rose looks up at the slowly descending mist. We need a more permanent solution the bodies will decay eventually, but right now this will do. Rose slides her rapier into her belt and starts dragging bodies towards the tunnel.
Rose Reneva |
strength: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18 We need more people, or more, quick, did that tunnel slope upward or downwards when we came down it?
Rose Reneva |
F&~* why couldn't it have been an up slope. We could have piled the torches in there and let the heated air block the tunnel while we tried to collapse it. Maybe we should just go. it will take time to pool in here and start climbing up the tunnel, it should give us time to collapse it. Benny, if you've got enough black powder I need you to go pull it together and get it about a third of the way down the tunnel, we'll keep blocking this off until we need to run.
Lershoth Sholme |
Wowzers I missed a lot, a bit of retconning here.
Having been taking a nap when this all started, Lershoth awoke to a pretty weird situation where several people were crowding into his lab. After asking them what was going on he took the time to move things around so people wouldn't blow themselves up on accident.
Having secured his lab he grabbed his two Shortswords and his studded leather armor, trying vainly to put them on while moving. After digging out the information from a few stragglers that several had proceeded down a northern tunnel Lershoth headed towards the tunnels entrance, pausing briefly.
This is a really stupid idea, why did they go down there? Why am I about to go down there? Standing for a moment considering. Blasted fools, they might need my help
Fixing his armor on the rest of the way, and decided, Lershoth began making his was down the tunnel, eventually arriving a few minutes or so after Benny's arrival.
What in the devil are you doing with those bodies!?
perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Rose Reneva |
You're right, this is a fools errand. Does anybody know if there are any picks in storage?

It took everyone about an hour to get down there. Benny should not be down there yet. I'll just assume he meant he came down very shortly after they decided to go and was a little behind. You on the other hand Lershoth would be a while to catch up to them. Best do something from where you are instead.
Rose Reneva |
Let's go, the fog is moving slowly, and it will have to creep up the passage. We have to get back and collapse it. It's our only chance. Rose turns around dropping her body and begins to sprint up the passage.

whoops, I missed that hour long bit
Lershoth not sure what to do but not seeing or hearing any of the rest decides to return to his lab to prepare some extracts.
That passage goes on for a long time, from what I remember. No sense in trying to catch then when they've been gone for so long. Best to be prepared.
Spend 3 minutes prepping 3 extracts, leaving 1 open:
After that he will check on the ones taking shelter in the area to see if any are hurt.
Rose Reneva |
Grab the pickaxes. We have to collapse the tunnel. I need the most experienced Engineers marking out where to dig, and the most experienced miners to do it safely. Rose calls out.
Brennus Rassam |
"The mists are coming up through the tunnel. Whatever caused the breach must have been enormous, slaughters a good number of lizard-folk down there." Brennus' gaze falls on the tunnel.
Let's hope it doesn't decide to come up through here.
Tall Tale Teller |
The 8 engineers get to work scratching X, in the places they deem best. Then 10 of the 45 miners get to work. (It would be very crowded if they sent in more)
After a while they manage to cause a collapse. Dirt and rock come crumbling down. Luckily all the miners got out ok. A large dust cloud washes over the part of the main cavern a few folks cough and sputter but are undamaged. After the dust clears you can see the tunnel is completely blocked off.
Crisis averted.
