Lucian will continue to fire away with the bow.

Darryl will attempt to intimidate the devil.
intimidate: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (18) + 23 = 41 success.
Round 3:
Eidolon go.
Mu'aqquibat The Protector
Mu'aqquibat The Protector stares directly at the demon, a grave face showing, taking another 5' step so the devil can't disengage, and keeps attacking with the best of her abilities.
Takes the extra attack from Blessing of Fervor this Round, and uses Power Attack.
Scimitar +1 (Large/Keen) 2 handed 10' reach w/ Greater Weapon Spell, Power Attack: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (12) + 17 = 29
Damage: 1d8 + 24 ⇒ (2) + 24 = 26
Scimitar +1 (Large/Keen) 2 handed 10' reach w/ Greater Weapon Spell and Blessing of Fervor: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (3) + 17 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 24 ⇒ (7) + 24 = 31
Scimitar +1 (Large/Keen) 2 handed 10' reach w/ Greater Weapon Spell and Blessing of Fervor: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28
Damage: 1d8 + 24 ⇒ (2) + 24 = 26
Critical Confirm (+4 with Critical Focus Feat): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
Laurel Treekeeper
Laurel moves back into the room and casts and a barely visible hand approaches the devil and tries to touch him.
Intensified Shocking Grasp: 1d20 + 13 + 5 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 13 + 5 + 1 + 2 = 36 Damage: 13d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 3, 6, 5, 2, 6, 5, 6, 1, 4, 6, 2, 6) + 6 + 1 = 62
SR: 1d20 + 13 + 2 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 13 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 28
Using +2 from blessing of fervor
Raphael Anaviel
So he doesn't have the antilife shell anymore?
Raphael Anaviel
Raphael gasps at seeing Terentius die, and quickly moves towards him and touches his remains.
"Sarenrae, if it is your will, let him live!"
Casts Breath of Life on Terentius, Healing him 5d8 + 13 ⇒ (1, 5, 1, 2, 6) + 13 = 28 HP.
He also will try to know what spell the devil used.
Knowledge (Arcana): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
Sazzat Tamm
"Guess that wasn't Sarenrae's will...."
Assume Darryl intimidates the devil again?
Tamm hasn't tried a knowledge check to identify the creature now that he has seen it.
knowledge(planes): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
and he still doesn't have any idea...
Mu'aqquibat The Protector
Did she gets an AoO then the devil casts?
Mu'aqquibat The Protector keeps attacking with the best of her abilities.
Takes the extra attack from Blessing of Fervor this Round, and uses Power Attack.
Scimitar +1 (Large/Keen) 2 handed 10' reach w/ Greater Weapon Spell, Power Attack: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (19) + 17 = 36
Damage: 1d8 + 24 ⇒ (3) + 24 = 27
Scimitar +1 (Large/Keen) 2 handed 10' reach w/ Greater Weapon Spell and Blessing of Fervor: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (6) + 17 = 23
Damage: 1d8 + 24 ⇒ (7) + 24 = 31
Scimitar +1 (Large/Keen) 2 handed 10' reach w/ Greater Weapon Spell and Blessing of Fervor: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
Damage: 1d8 + 24 ⇒ (3) + 24 = 27
Critical Confirm (+4 with Critical Focus Feat): 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (14) + 17 = 31
I am thinking in having Raphael "unsummon" Mu'aqquibat The Protector and start spamming summoned Angels...
drbuzzard
The devil maintained concentration on a spell last time, that doesn't provoke. However Laurel managed to disrupt it and it's over. He'll try a new spell now.
You missed all attacks.
He will cast a spell, and skip defensive.
eidolon AOO: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (16) + 17 = 33 miss
Everyone in the circle make a DC 23 refles save or take 20d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 3, 2, 3, 1, 2, 2, 4, 1, 2, 6, 2, 4, 3, 4, 3, 2, 5, 5) = 59 fire damage. Save for 1/2 (though I expect everyone there has evasion).
Rest of party is up.
Sazzat Tamm
Before the devil goes, Tamm takes a 5' step forward to make sure it's within 30'.
Then he uses dazzling display to make an intimidate check of his own.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (17) + 17 = 34
If I exceed the target of the check by 10, then he'll need to make a will save with target DC:24 or be frightened for 1d4 ⇒ 3 rounds.
Then reflex save reflex: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (4) + 17 = 21 takes 59
@Laurel: Are you saving all those enervation spells just in case this guy has a big brother?
Lucian Threl
Lucian pops back up out of invisibility and fires again.
Attack: 1d20 + 20 - 4 ⇒ (18) + 20 - 4 = 34 Vs Flat Footed
Damage: 1d8 + 1 + 7d6 ⇒ (8) + 1 + (4, 1, 4, 6, 2, 6, 5) = 37
Raphael Anaviel
Raphael will turn invisible and move out of the Line of Sight of the devil.
Mu'aqquibat The Protector
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
She takes 10 less as she has Fire Resistance.
Does her Spell Resistance 24 Apply?
Laurel Treekeeper
Laurel screams as the fire burns him and then moves, swearing at the devil. He then unleashes an evil looking ray at him.
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 12 + 2 = 18
Enervation: 1d20 + 13 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 13 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 2 = 40 Levels Lost: 1d4 ⇒ 3
SR: 1d20 + 13 + 2 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 13 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 24
Sazzat Tamm
To be fair, that was pretty hard. It was just me thinking about Ralph summoning outsiders to swarm him that made me think "Hey wait, I'm an outsider."
Without me remembering that, we could have done this all month.
The party has a definite weakness with ranged combat. Three of us built really strong melee characters that forgot to bring ranged weapons.
My character "novas" six times a day, but loses steam against swarms of opponents.
Gestalt really seems to favor letting people bring powerful melee options online. Spellcasters, on the other hand, are still bound by the action economy into just doing the cool things they could always do.
Laurel Treekeeper
If he had been human (or any other humanoid) we'd still be doing this. It was only his race choice that let him in.
Even a melee build should have a ranged weapon of some sort. I carried that bow because it fit with my high DEX for the ray aiming. If I were high STR I'd have used a sling. I'm not a fan of crossbows as it takes feats to reload in order to use your additional attacks for high BAB and you don't get a STR bonus to it.
I was concentrating on hit point damage when I should have probably just been hitting him with enervation to bring him down hit dice. I switched when you asked about my enervations Tamm.
I was feeling a bit underwhelming as the action economy only had me doing one attack a round. That's caster's for you though.
Lucian Threl
Yup. No ranged weapon was a mistake for me. I thought the ability to fly would help cover it, but I didn't anticipate something like antilife shell.

You put down the main devil in the place and the summoning circle in the center of the room begins to glow brightly, thrumming with vast reserves of power. Any character standing on the circle may use it as a teleportation circle to return to the Hall of Wards and claim victory in the contest.
When you get back though, the demiplane you just traveled from pops and unleashes a bunch of devils onto the campus. Sazzat kills them with stern glances.
The headmaster presents you with the award and his thanks for fixing a rigged contest that he was stuck with.
This is actually something of a vexatious module in that the story has no way to fully resolve with information given. The 'contest' which was a demiplane designed to capture souls was set up by an infernal duke. All you get in here is his name and no stats. He is fully off stage throughout and the headmaster was more or less forced into acquiescing. In theory you could fight the headmaster, and he is a fairly high level wizard, but it would still be a matter of windshield and bug. Module doesn't even mention where one might find the infernal duke as he is exiled from hell.

So... what's next?
