"Very well, we should head to the scriptorium without delay. If we entrust the artifacts to you, are you willing to accept all responsibility for their protection, or the consequences of failing to protect them?"

Male Human Friar/1

Brother Theodor nods thoughtfully at the suggestion of visiting the library at the keep. He also is happy that Heroiel has brought up the responsibility of keeping the artifacts safe.

"We will try to be a quick as we can, but as you can see anyone in contact with these cursed items is a target. I do not like the idea of making trouble for your order, but we simply cannot continue to carry these items with us and have any hope in discerning how to destroy them. I hope you understand."

"Well, we rest first, then head for the Scriptorium, right? How far is it? Remember we have a target on our back..."

"Damnit. Do you guys have any money?? Why don't we get a stagecoach for once in our lives, save some energy walking...and would keep our faces covered. Besides, that way we could read some books on the way there." he suggests.

Would my Sage background give me any familiarity with this Cestarian fellow? Or about the library in general?

It would! In fact, anyone from Fangsfall knows that the Bibliothecis is the advisor to Lord Vrail and a powerful mage in his own right. Cestarian is an elf, so it's difficult to say how old he is, and has held the position for as long as Killian Vrail has been Duke of Fangsfall. Where he came from before that is a matter of conjecture.

While the scriptorium pales in comparison to the storied Library of Lokil in the Ukrudan Desert many many miles to the northeast of Fangsfall, it is the largest collection of texts on the Peninsula and is presided over by a head librarian appointed by Cestarian the Wise. Zdravko has been there to copy texts on lens making and astronomy and he knows how the place is laid out.

Raho meets Heroiel's eye.

"I swear by the Avenger's sword that we shall guard these artifacts so long as they are entrusted to us. Will you swear by your Gods to see them destroyed?"

Djal averts his eyes. Swearing oaths was not his preference. Plus, he knew very well how often oaths got broken. Still, these guys seem to mean what they said. A dangerous thing, really...

"As long as they are within our possession, we swear to seek their destruction!" he swears back.

The Chaptermistress points to a map of the city drawn nearby.

"The Scriptorium is a short distance away, here in Vrail Keep. I suspect the young sage with the dire splinter has the credentials to get in, but if necessary I can loan you one of ours."

It's a short walk- 15 minutes or so- and an even shorter carriage ride.

Zukhan, who had been mostly silent up until this point, pipes up.

"If you lot are going to the library, I can stay and keep an eye on Spiragos' artifacts with the knights. A stuffy library isn't exactly my speed anyways..."

"I swear by Chardun, the rightful master of all, that I shall do everything in my power to see them crushed." says Heroiel with a polite smile on his face.

Gritting his teeth, Z was a bit uneasy to swear to his god. Unlike others, religion was never easy for him, preferring the sure things of deductive mathematics to matters of the spirit or recent history. Still, at the moment it seemed a requirement and he wanted to solidify himself on the team so he at last managed a "By Belsameth, purest perfect circle of the sky, these artifacts are no longer permitted to exist."

After that he actually felt a little better and relaxed for the first time in a while "I know the Scriptorium pretty well. If we want to make an entrance with as little attention as possible we could..."

Int check to devise a plan based on what he knows? Thinking like a rarely used entrance, type of garb that might be low key, using his mimicry ability to act like someone known, etc

"I still say we head there tomorrow. It’s near, I know, but it’s night, or nearly so."

"Could we stay here for the night then? More importantly, do you have any coffee?" he asks.

"I'd actually vote the opposite; the sooner we start, the sooner we finish. Besides, this is going to take a long time, and they may not even have the information we're looking for."

Zs fine either way honestly. DM out again?

Same here. Don't mind either way. Whatever is best for the story.

Djal throws his arms up in the air. That cute adept will just have to wait...

"Right. Let's get on with it then. We leave the artefacts here, kept safe, and we go smell some old musky tomes!"

Male Human Friar/1

"Indeed, let us be off. The sooner we can figure this out the sooner we can be rid of those evil artifacts!"

The priest checks his gear before the group heads out.
