Alessio turns to the creature after Cabe began the assault and slings a bomb in its direction.

The little gnome was watching curiously as they attempted to revive and care for the body they found. Remarkable that she's still alive down here.

As soon as the ghoulish creature appears, the gnome again seemingly transforms from the stoic little guy into a vessel of unknown divine hate. He eyes glow red and his hair stands up and begins to wave gently in the air, like seaweed underwater.

Cast Doom on purple, Will DC15 or become Shaken for 2 min/20 rounds.

Grax takes the time to lower the girl gently down, before he reacts to the creature. He picks up his greatsword and yells to Javon. "Watch over the girl!"

He steps forward, but bumps into an invisible Cabe. His instincts tell him it's not an enemy and he side steps to try and strike the undead.

Weirdness with not knowing Cabe failed his roll, but it has cover from Grax's attack.

As Grax closes the distance he too begins to gag from the odor of rot emanating from the enemy. Fortitude DC 15 or Sickened for 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 minutes.

Reflex 14: 1d20 ⇒ 9
Will 15: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
As the bomb sails through the air and luckily over the invisble Cabe's shoulder it smashes into the ghoulish creature wreathing it in flames. The shrieks that come from within are chill inducing but soon charred claws swipe away the remaining smoke and fire. Still enraged but Arin's magic has clearly rattled the the monster.

Instead of breaking free he sends blackened claws and jagged teeth at Grax, the closest enemy.

Bite: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 5 - 4 = 14
Claw: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 5 - 4 = 14
Claw: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 5 - 4 = 11

However between the now hardened spittle and the doom now looming over the creature it isn't able to connect with anything.

"NO! THIS TOMB IS MINE!"

Concerned about the safety of the child, Alina forgoes her hexes and unleashes more damaging powers. As the creature continues to yell at the group, Alina opens her mouth and screams back at it. Oddly, no sound can be heard.

Ear Piercing Scream (Fort save DC 15): You unleash a powerful scream, inaudible to all but a single target. The target is dazed for 1 round and takes 1d6 points of sonic damage per two caster levels. A successful save negates the daze effect and halves the damage

Unable to tumble past the creature, Cabe decides to stand his ground. He wills arcane power into his dueling sword, and ends his brief invisibility with a flourishing cut at the creature's neck.

Alina let's loose a scream that appears silent to the others but the ghoul grabs it's head as a burst of grisly fluid drains from it's mouth and nose. Before it can fully fall to it's knees Cabe slashes the monster with his dueling sword causing it to twist as it falls to the ground where Grax ensures the creature never rises again by bisecting the creatures torso. No cries of revenge or terror would be heard as silence once again takes over the tomb.

Once again Combat is very much over. Loaded up with statuses and taken down hard.

Cabe gives a low, appreciative whistle at the corpse cleaved in twain before them. "That was spectacularly gross," he says, poking the rotting thing with his boot. "I'll give these alcoves a once-over, make sure there are no more surprises. After that, I think we should bring the girl up to the surface and get her to the healers."

Cabe scours the alcove from whence the creature came with both mundane and magic senses, as well as giving the ghoulish beast a thorough once-over.

Casting detect magic on the alcove and the ghoul-thing's corpse, as well as the NW alcove (I don't think anyone checked that).

Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 16

The group surveys the room and finds more mundane treasures within the one sarcophagus they removed the girl from. It seems it was common to be buried with ones valuables. The only magical ping is the Ruby Ring of The Salamander on the girl's finger.

Now that Alessio can work uninterrupted he notices the girl matches the picture of Lady Dacilane's daughter, Junia. He quickly works to ensure she is stable for travel.

The group can return the way they came without much worry when they are ready to do so.

After helping the party gather the valuables quickly, Cabe suggests Grax carry the girl, and then takes point leading the party back out of the sunken halls and away from the Drownyards. He doesn't expect further shenanigans, but keeps his dueling sword out nonetheless.

He pauses on the way to check the condition of Marlinchen, but has little hope they can convince the man to come away from the ghost of his child. Unhealthy as it is, Cabe is the last person to judge him for it. He does suggest, as they move on, "Perhaps we should mention to whatever healers we bring young Lady Dacilane to, about the mental state of Marlinchen. Perhaps there will be priests who can bring the groundskeeper's mind back to the world of the living..."

Cabe shakes his head. "I don't know. I'm not entirely certain what its purpose is, but I suspect it may be what has kept her alive all this time. If the healers say it's safe to remove it, we'll bring it to the Lodge as requested. If not..." He sighs. "If not, it stays with her. I'll not sacrifice a child's life for a trinket."

As Grax carries the girl protected by his comrades back through the ruins they pass Marlinchen still in the same spot. If asked to leave he will refuse any suggestions. After a fairly long but uneventful journey back to the Dacilane estate the gatekeeper spots the group and quickly assists them inside.

There Lady Dacilane bursts into tears at the sight of her daughter. She urges the group to the couch to lay her down as she sends off all servants to return with clerics of the highest rank to see to her daughter.

"She is alive! I knew she had to be...my lovely Junia. Help is coming. Where was she?" she tends to her daughter waiting for her medical attention to arrive.

Clerics of multiple churches arrive at the house with haste and weave their healing magics on the frail girl. Before your eyes you see health and consciousness return to her in minutes but is taken to her room to continue her recovery.

"This was the work of a foul spirit, an Allip. It had drained her mind and memory leaving her in that poor state but the ring...it sustained her body with nourishment leaving her in limbo. She may have been trapped there forever had you not saved her. Were there others down there? Is there still time to save more?" one of the elder clergy explained to the group still assembled.

Arin very briefly explains to the Lady that she was found in a coffin, but leaves out the details about ghouls and undead nearby. She's been through enough already, and the danger has passed. No need to worry her about what might have been.

He's fascinated by what the girl must have experienced while in limbo.

So, the ring nourished you and kept you alive. You say you have no memory of this time. Was it simply like blinking and losing all of the time in between or was there some additional experience?

Alina addresses the cleric "Thank you for the explanation sir. We are curious as to the ring that she was wearing. In addition to bringing Junia back we were tasked by the Society to retrieve the ring. Is is safe to remove and take with us?"

Cabe stands back from the others, both to keep out of the way of the healers, and to avoid conversation with the hostess. He does lean close to Andy and mutter, "Thank you again for saving my life today, friend. I'm beginning to think perhaps I should go back to guarding caravans. The life of a Pathfinder agent is for the young, I suspect." There is something on his face - not fear, exactly, but close. Shame, perhaps, or embarrassment?

Cabe gives a rueful chuckle. "The things I've seen were not meant for tales, friend. They are... disturbing, to say the least. But, I suppose there's really no going back for me. Caravan guarding is bloody boring, and I have the itch once again, as I did in my youth. Besides, barring horrific death at the hands of giant bugs, I have far too many years left in me to sit on my hands."

He watches the healers tend to the child, and feels a pang of loneliness. She looks so much like little Zelda...

He turns away before memories of his sister can choke him, and quietly slips away to await the others in the main hall. Had you not been there to help, he chides himself, that girl may have stayed in that tomb forever. Don't forget that.

He sighs and takes a seat on a bench. No, he's not going to quit the Pathfinder Society. Not yet, anyway. Such a decision bears more consideration than a whim.

The cleric turns to Arin and Alina as they take the young girl to her room. "We must let her rest but we will be sure to pass your questions along to her when she is feeling more up to it...and I believe as her saviors you are more than deserving of it. Now that she is able to drink and eat on her own she will be fine without it."

A few days later all Pathfinders receive a letter of thanks from both ladies of the Dacilane family.

"Thank you again Pathfinders for all of your help in bringing back my darling Junia. You and your society will have this families aid in future matters, that I promise. Now my daughter wanted to write a little to you as well.

Pathfinders! Thank you for saving me. I just wish I could have saved the others. My strength remained while I saw all of my friends getting weaker when we were trapped. It was too much to bear so I hid in the coffin but I can't remember much more than that. I had no idea it was the ring we found...if only I could have shared it but now I am alive and I have to do something with that life. Thank you again."

You all wonder what the future for the young lady holds.
