No need to worry about rushing characters. Like I said before, you'll have until the end of the month, or until I've officially picked six characters I like, whichever comes first.

Stats:
Stat #1: 4d6 - 2 ⇒ (2, 4, 4, 5) - 2 = 13
Stat #2: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (6, 4, 1, 6) - 1 = 16
Stat #3: 4d6 - 2 ⇒ (6, 2, 3, 5) - 2 = 14
Stat #4: 4d6 - 4 ⇒ (4, 5, 5, 6) - 4 = 16
Stat #5: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (4, 1, 3, 5) - 1 = 12
Stat #6: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (1, 5, 2, 1) - 1 = 8

I would like to submit Inessa, an unchained Spirit Summoner (of Life). I hope that she would be able to fill a supporting role within the party, buffing and providing a bit of healing via channel energy, while her eidolon, Vizaresh, would serve as a tanky-type frontliner.

Please let me know if I should tone down the background in regards to the Clergy Member trait!

GM, will you allow for alterations to happen if we're chosen? There's still a few things I'm settling on for Ragath.

It depends on the alterations. I will allow minor things, like skill ranks and stat values, but changing the core of what the character is like class, archetype, and major points in the background are going to be set in stone.

After some thought, I think I will be crafting up an Aasimar hunter using the Divine Hunter archtype. He will probably be a follower of either Sarenrae or Iomedae... though those are not certain yet.

In all likelihood he will be taking the Teacher's Pet or Chance Savior traits (the former learning more about religion, the latter if I think it more likely that he had a chance to save the good Professor during his travels). On the Payroll was appealing (the idea that he would employ an angelic descendant and his pet as a guard on his journeys almost is too fun to skip) but only getting starting gold as a benefit is a bit too... lacking.... to me.

Just going to put this out there, but I won't be accepting a full Aasimar party, so picking an Aasimar at this point may not be in your best interest, given the amount of them that already applied.

That is fair... I was hoping to go the route of having him develop metallic skin, grow wings, etc... but perhaps there is another way...

...

...

TENGU!!! (caw CAH caw CAH!!!)

Not quite as... as... what would be the best word...

Inconspicuous... yes, that works... but, then that might contribute to the fun. Also, in that event his chosen god will be different...

Anyway, its a thought. If not, might just have to gamble on having a better submission than the others. We shall see when I get to the drafting board tonight.

Planning to formally apply tonight or possibly sometime tomorrow.
4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 2, 4) = 11
4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 5, 2) = 15
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 6, 2) = 14
4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 1, 3) = 12
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 6, 2) = 14
4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 3, 2) = 9

Looks like I'll be taking the 20 point buy option.

This is Han Del's submission

Got all the crunchy bits done. I'll write up a the story and fluff tomorrow. Basic build idea is a specialist in hunting various Undead (surprising, I know). He'll be good at the usual Ranger-y things like Perception and Survival. Tentative plans are to try out some of the fun Ranger feats. I've already taken Favored Defense and I'm currently eyeing the new Focused Undead Expertise feat as something on my shopping list. I have not really decided on a combat style for now and I may seek to keep his build rather generalized outside of his propensity for bashing undead heads in.

Still trying to decide between Soulblade or Ghostslayer for my other first level feat. Anyone have any thoughts?

This is Tazo with my submission of Ideyoshi the Lesser - Brawler with VMC Oracle. The concept behind Ideyoshi is that he has acquired the spirits of many martial arts senseis in his consciousness. These senseis bolster his combat skills and teach him techniques that he himself would not naturally know (i.e. Martial Flexibility). While their guidance is invaluable, their presence also taxes his mind (i.e. Shattered Psyche curse). On occasion, he will exhibit a dual personality disorder as the spirit of the strongest Sensei spills out of him.

I know there's already a monk submission from Zhu Jin, but I expect our characters will evolve to be quite different. Ideyoshi will probably end up playing more like a fighter over time as he will gain martial weapon proficiency and heavy armor proficiency (gaining such knowledge through greater access to the spirits of Battle within him). The current plan is to mix in a reach weapon and trip attacks with unarmed strike flurry of blows. Depending on group composition, he could also go in other directions.

Full details in the profile.

*Edit* - I wanted to add this video as some inspiration for a martial artist glaive fighter, although I'd prefer Ideyoshi be a little more effective than what is shown.

This is the submission for TheWanderer123 - thought a witch would fit this setting. Looking forward to hearing about this!

I'm not a fan of the VMC rule. While I do allow unchained summoners, I don't intend on allowing other variants. Please, in the future, if you wish to come to me with a variant rule, ask me about it first.

4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 2, 6) = 13
4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 6, 3) = 18
4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 3, 5) = 15

4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 2, 2) = 9
4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 1, 1) = 9
15, 14, 12, 10, 8, 7, yay.

Sorry, I should've checked first. I've simply removed the variant multiclassing. The main theoretical change in the long term would be the possibility of a single-level dip in another martial class for the weapon and armor proficiencies. (I suppose it could also be a single level dip in Battle Oracle, but it seems weird to get the curse effect at level 2 or later and not at the start.) The basic theory of the character remains unchanged.

So... I haven't played with this guy in over a year... and he will need some fine tuning to make him ready (stat block changes, downgrading in level, swapping in appropriate campaign trait and visiting other traits to see if I still think they fit, etc.) ... but I think that I might roll with him once more (after expanding his backstory a bit).

If you read his backstory tab you will see his general backstory so far (will be modifying it slightly post banishment, and expanding it a bit pre banishment)... the core nature of it isn't going to change (though I think I will swap "River Kingdom Bandits" for "Orc Raiders" as the proximate cause of his older brother's death) so you should get a feel for him.

As I said, going to have to brush the dust off and get him fighting fit once more. I will post again as him once his metamorphosis is completed.

(Ready, Kafka?)

4d6 - 1 ⇒ (1, 3, 3, 2) - 1 = 8
4d6 - 4 ⇒ (4, 5, 6, 5) - 4 = 16
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (3, 6, 2, 5) - 2 = 14
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (3, 1, 2, 6) - 1 = 11
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (2, 3, 5, 2) - 2 = 10
4d6 - 3 ⇒ (3, 5, 6, 5) - 3 = 16

Here is Petyr, the Wandering Friar. His background and statblock are in the profile.

Sorry to chime in again so soon, but I have a thought. Would it be okay for Ideyoshi to intentionally take the drawbacks of the shattered psyche curse at level 1 with no benefits, and then dip Oracle at level 2? I think that solves the weird continuity problem without creating an unfair advantage.

You could also start as an Oracle and then benefit from the Spirits' teachings by going Brawler.

My character isn't coming together as much as I would like. I like his backstory a lot, and the idea behind him, but the Spiritualist+Phantom Blade isn't interesting me all that much mechanically.

I personally like Ectoplasmaticist a bit more than Phantom Blade as it seems more interesting to me. Have you given that a look?

Bored, and you said you liked creative writing, so here's more backstory for my character. Will probably put up the events that led to him taking the Nameless One feat later too.

Backstory:
What exactly did you expect?

"Well, certainly more than this," Malachi said, hefting the disappointingly small promissory note.

Your father made a number of powerful enemies. It is surprising that you received anything at all.

"I name dropped the Professor enough, and my academic record is more than acceptable," he complained.

The slight young man weaved his way out of the small crowd in the bank's lobby, eyes darting back and forth as he mumbled quietly to himself.

After the "unexplained" destruction of him home and death of his parents, he had been in governmental foster care for a few weeks while waiting for word from his uncle. His mother's brother was a kind enough man, though his heartbreak over the loss of his sister made him become somewhat distant and withdrawn whenever he saw Malachi.

This bothered Malachi little though, as Astiela provided him all the company he could ever desire and more. He was of course achieving good marks in his classes, though given the limited nature of education in Barstoi, where hard work and military service were much more highly valued, that wasn't as impressive as it might otherwise have been.

Regardless, between his minor nobility, his obvious cleverness, and liberally name dropping Professor Lorrimor, he had received a decent scholarship to the University of Lepidstadt. Between the magical tutoring from Astiela and the mortal instruction at the university, he was reasonably confident that he should have no great difficulty with any career he so chose.

After finally exiting the bank he quickly leapt into his carriage and ordered the driver back to his uncle's manor.

Like most minor nobles, his uncle was a former knight in service to Count Neska. He had been granted ownership of one of the salt mines in the county as a reward for exemplary service, and had been slowly but consistently profiting from it ever since. He, like most in that county, was a serious, hard-working man, though he was considerably less closed off than most of the rest of the population. This was most likely due to the influence of his wife, who was an exceedingly warm and caring individual, possessing great skill both at being the lady of the house, and at mothering her three children. Malachi considered his cousins to be rather boring individuals (particularly when compared to the endlessly knowledgeable voice in his mind), and so while he retained all politeness and cordiality with them, he only interacted as was required, and otherwise avoided them.

The carriage ride back to his uncles manor was long, and he spent most of it attempting to interact with the spirits he could detect along the way. So far he had had very little success with his endeavors, though Astiela assured him this was less due to his capability, and more due to his lack of maturity. He was not entirely sold on this, unsure why a mostly non-sentient bit of quintessence would care about his level of development, but he accepted it nonetheless. Astiela continually encouraged him to study his father's grimoire, and he happily did so, though despite his enthusiasm much of it was still far beyond him. But Astiela was an invaluable resource, and had several times told him that despite his apparent lack of success that he was still proceeding far faster than his father had before him. The fact that this was mostly due to the disembodied devil's tutelage and the groundwork already laid by his father in the grimoire would not occur to him until far later in his life. For now though, he accepted the praise and continually delved into his studies.

Finally the carriage returned to the manor, and he exited, hurrying to his room to file away the note so that it would not get lost.

"Malachi!" The Lady would like to speak with you in the library, if you would," Evangaline, his aunt's maid, called to him from the balcony.

"Of course," he replied, nodding to her as he continued up the stairs. He went to his room, put the note in his lockbox, and then left for the library.

"That didn't take long," his aunt said upon seeing him, "Did everything go well?"

"Yes, m'lady," he said, nodding, "Not as much as I night have liked, but enough at least to cover the basics."

"Oh excellent!" she gushed, smoothing his hair and patting his cheek.

"I'm so proud of you!" she beamed.

He shifted, somewhat uncomfortable. While his aunt did not overtly attempt to become more of a mother figure to him, she was a naturally loving person, very different from the cool, dis-attached attention he was accustomed to from Astiela. He was still unsure about receiving his aunts simple, straight-forward affection.

"Thank you m'lady," he replied. His aunt sighed at his formality.

"We shall have to have a celebration!" she said cheerily. He struggled to hold back his own sigh.

"Yes m'lady."

True, though he'd be a Charisma 9 spell-less oracle. Too much of a liability at level 1. Could make him a high-Charisma guy, though that starts to feel contrary to character. Still prefer just pretending he's cursed until he can grab it.

If I really wanted to go all out, I suppose I could rebuild as a Warsighted Oracle. But that's a whole other ballgame. I've always had a harder time building non-caster characters that I like, so I don't want to give this one up so easily.

Touched up my background a bit. Good luck to all entries.

So... metamorphosis for Alex has been tricky, but it is mostly complete (still making some class choices with regards to a few things like my bonus feat and which weapon he will get from ancestral arms).

Summary of changes: Alex and his younger sister went from full elves to half elves. His (deceased) older brother is still a full blooded elf.

He currently is not a member of the Pathfinder Society. It was his desire, but the funeral of the Professor has interrupted his initiation training. (He saved the good man en route, and part of the reason he gained initial admission was a decent letter of recommendation written by him.)

I have left it open as to whether he left his monastery on good terms or not.

Anyway, the hope is to have everything minus his equipment sorted out by the end of tonight. Once that is finished I will let you know.

Silver Crusade

And mostly ready. I need to finish updating skills (the ones there are right, but the bonuses need sanity checking for feats/racials/class skill buffs), I need to pick additional languages (suggestions welcome on useful languages to look into), and I need to pick gear... but Alex Virden is finally ready to take to the forums again.

Alright, character is mostly done. I'd appreciate any critiques anyone might offer.

Silver Crusade

And everything is up to date... including equipment. If you have any questions or suggestions, GM Umineko, I would of course be open to them.

Coming up with some new ideas. A Virtuous Bravo of Shelyn with the Bladed Brush feat sounds potentially very interesting to me in a campaign filled with evil, darkness and monsters.

Because this is longish and I don't want to clutter the recruitment with a discertation that most won't be interested in, spoiler time! Addressing to GM, but any may read if they are morbidly curious... just don't say I didn't give you the option not to later if it is boring.

@ GM Umineko:

So since I didn't really list it in the sheet, and I remember you expressing interest in it, I envision Alex's progression through levels as being pretty much monk (barring any reason to dip into something else) focused on melee combat (hand to hand especially, though the double chained kama's give him slashing when needed, so I won't ignore those) and punishing flurry attacks when possible.

Out of combat, I see him as being a pseudo scholar, focused on history and languages (the latter to better research the former). I originally wanted to give him a journal, ink, and quills to start documenting findings off the bat, but I decided that him having a tent and associated cooking gear made more sense, character wise. A journal and writing implements will likely be his first acquisitions once he gets more income (perhaps from his profession as a qualified scribe...)

I decided to hamstring his native CHA with the 8 from my dice rolls, bumping it up to a 10 with the racial +2 to any so I didn't have a penalty. The man has tattoos on his face that he actively tries to hide (especially whenever he is in the company of elves) and is acting under the world view of an outcast (even his monastery back in the mysterious East didn't allow him to remain, though I have left it vague just how much this was for his own good and how much was out of some racial mistrust or similar scorn)... so social charms are not his strong suit. As such, I would play him as more the type to act when his head and heart tell him to, regardless of what might be 'socially acceptable'.

This is actually part of the reason he saved the professor. His head told him that the chances of this man being a spy for anyone was low, and his heart told him that these villagers were just out for blood for who knows what reason. Laws were clearly being used as justifications for criminal activity, not protection from it... so he stepped in and beat up what he would say were the 'real criminals'. I can see him being a bit impulsive as a result of that combination, but it should be fun to explore.

Anyway, this has rambled on a bit, but I hope it outlines a bit of what I am thinking with regards to him in broad strokes.

There's another applicant who beat you to it with an even better set of rolls. I think an old fashioned melee cleric is pretty MAD, even if it's not particularly exotic.

Just a public service announcement to state that the GM is reading everything you guys post, but he just doesn't really know how to respond to anything at the moment, if there is something that needs to be responded to. I'm going through the submissions I have every day, and there's quite a few that I do like, but I'm still looking for more submissions. I don't want my decision to be easy, people!

20pt buy it is then.

Give me a sec and I will build a backstory, I would love to have a crack at this ap again. Hoping this time it will get past the first module.

I have been wanting to try a ghost rider cavalier for a while, and I'm thinking this AP would be a good spot for that flavor-wise. My character would focus on melee and use the mount as a flanking partner. Being able to choose when to manifest the mount would be useful in dungeon crawls.

My character idea is a down-on-his-luck half-orc who happened upon the Professor in the forest facing down a deadly creature of some sort. My half-orc helps slay the beast (a la Chance Savior) and forges his bond with the Professor while also gaining a psychic link with the beast's phantom. Even though they go their separate ways, the experience has so inspired my half-orc that he joins the Order of the Staff and swears to protect and assist spellcasters whenever possible.

Of course, both due to his race and also to his horrific mount, my poor half-orc gets chased out of everywhere sooner or later.

Questions:

1. The Professor is a caster of some sort, I assume? If not I will need to adjust either backstory or choice of Order.
2. The rules for the phantom mount are a little unclear for the ghost rider archetype. I am reading it that my mount gets the listed stats no matter what, and that its form would mostly be fluff, is that right? I was kind of thinking a large wolf-like creature, maybe a dire wolf or winter wolf. Is there a creature you would like me to choose here?

1. Yes, it would be known to players that Professor Lorrimor is a caster, a wizard at that.

2. It seems pretty set that the mount uses those statistics despite form, so I'd say that's the case. It makes it seem like it has to be a horse, but I don't see why a wolf couldn't be used. I'd even let you change out the hoof attacks for claw attacks, since it would make more sense.

Ok cool! :D I will start working on a character sheet.

Backstory:
Ustalav is the land of horrors, of horror, of monsters. Some times, a man steps forward to be a shining beacon in the dark Ustalav night. Sometimes it requires something more, some times it requires a monster. Gur is one such monster.

Though Gur believes himself to be a half-orc, the truth of the matter is he is a full blooded beast. As an infant, Gur crawled away from his mother's watchful gaze and in to the greater darklands beyond his tribes homes long before he could be raised in to a good orcish warrior. Three long years of surviving on his own shaped something in him long before his "Father" found him. A beast that gnashes at his soul and tries to scream forth when he is not looking.

Grumwald Halfheart was an average half-orc in the Palatinate of Canterwall , a broken man who's only marketable skill was doing the job no man wanted. A headsman by trade, Grumwald never expected to be a father in his life time, no woman he knew would ever want him. But, one becomes a father when one takes care of a child, and that is exactly what happened after Grumwald was attacked by a scrawny beast on his way between the farming hamlets. Grumwald took pity on the little beast, and raised him as both a son and an apprentice. In this way, Gur's life was changed and placed on the path that made a man out of a monster.

It was also in this way that Gur met with the Professor, pure chance and fortune. Two years ago, Grumwald dragged his poor boy to the one man he thought could help, for Gur had been bitten by a creature of the dark and taken ill. Ghoul fever is a nasty thing, all pain and pus and screams. But Gur survived, and was made stronger for his trials, and the Professor was fascinated with how this survival left cars that seemed to react to the presence of a creature of the night. If this ability could be duplicated without having to survive ghoul fever, it would make life in Ustalav a lot easier for so many that were under threat of the more insidious of the undead.

Gur found out about the Professor's passing only days after he had taken his first life, a duly tried and convicted murderer by the name of Nicolae Prusna. A monster in the form of a man, ended by a man in the form of a monster. The symmetry of the Ustilavan life.

It's SOLDIER-1st finally with an alias and character block.

Still waiting to hear whether Leadership is available.

Leadership can be taken once you reach the prerequisite level of 7, as per the feat. If anyone is going to take the feat, though, I'm going to limit it to just one PC that has it so there isn't a small army going around Ustalav. There's going to be six PCs anyway, so no need to bolster the ranks all that much further.

Alright thanks.

Im not going to take leadership. But in wotw there is a suggestion, that if more than 1 player picks leadership. They can share the cohort at -1 lvl instead of -2

Anyone want to discuss possible character ties... other than the weird love dodecahedron that someone suggested.

Noooo, accept the love polyhedron into your heart. It's non-euclidean so it can fit inside surprising spaces. Though it is also many-angled, so it might cause some tearing.

Be sure to consult your physician if you experience any of the following symptoms:
DEATH

Six paragraphs maximum...what's the limit on paragraph size, is it just whatever's reasonable? What about short scenes from my character's past and a brief description of his appearance and personality?

4d6: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 1, 4) = 15 14

4d6: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 4, 2) = 14 12

4d6: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 5, 1) = 14 13

4d6: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 6, 1) = 11 10

4d6: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 4, 3) = 12 11

4d6: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 6, 2) = 18 16

That's a 21 point buy. I'm looking to play a bard because that fits the concept, and I really don't have need of that 16, and would rather the array on the right.

STR 11 l STR 14
DEX 14 l DEX 14
CON 12 l CON 12
INT 13 l INT 13
WIS 10 l WIS 10
CHA 16 l CHA 14

Just realized had been in violation of the six paragraph backstory rule. This has been corrected.

Tentatively interested, pending the result of another recruitment. Plus, I just really like rolling stats. ;)

Stat the first: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 6, 3) = 19 16
Stat the second: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 3, 2) = 14 12
Stat the third: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 4, 3) = 15 12
Stat the fourth: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 2, 2) = 11 10
Stat the fifth: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 3, 5) = 13 12
Stat the sixth: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 3, 4) = 14 12

Hmm...definitely passable. Works for me. :) I'll noodle on what to do with those, although with only one really strong stat it'll likely be some kind of caster, and I've got a hankering for something with Channel Energy as well. If you don't hear back from me with a character, assume I've gotten into the other game I applied to and proceed with no concern for me. :)

So, my character is coming together. He is a Psychic with the Abomination discipline, though I am considering other sources for his powers and the voices in his head such as the Ancestors Mystery Oracle or the Id Rager Bloodrager.

Some backstory:

I have heard their voices for as long as I can remember. Secrets whispered in my ear of terrible things that would best be forgotten. My parents called them imaginary friends when I was too young to understand what the voices were saying, they called them hallucinations once I did. I couldn't bear to be branded insane by my own parents and so I hid what I heard and did my best to be 'normal'. Yet I learned that the voices came with a boon: strange powers that I could manifest on a whim, without the learning of the arcane or of holy scripture. I practiced these powers in the dead of night or deep in the woods near my home, already so accustomed to keeping secrets that the idea of revealing these newfound abilities never occurred to me.

In time, I grew into a young man with a head filled with yearning for travel and knowledge. My parents were not academics, but they encouraged my pursuit of knowledge and so contacted my Uncle, Goldwin. Goldwin is a celebrated scholar with ties to several different schools of learning and so he arranged for me to attend the University of Lepidstadt. It was there that I met the famous Professor Petros Lorrimor. Professor Lorrimor was the first person outside of my parents that I told of the voices, and he was the first to help me investigate their origins. With the Professor, I came to learn that the voices were dark whispers from my own inner psyche, another self trapped deep inside, one that I dared not release and yet could not help but be tempted by the power it offered. We could not discover why or how I had gained this alternate self, but in understanding where the voices came from I came to use them as a resource in learning of my own abilities.

On Professor Lorrimor’s recommendation I traveled to the Arcanamirium in Absalom, officially as his liaison to the school, but unofficially to research my own oddities. It is from there that I now travel to Ravengro for my mentor’s funeral. We had kept in touch during my stay at the Arcanamirium, but recently the letters ceased coming and now I know why.
