Here is where the constables can discuss things freely away from prying eyes and ears.

Checking in. I need to add mundane items and such. Looking forward to gaming with you all.

I need to pick a second craft skill. Does anyone have suggestions?

I'd suggest either weapons, or alchemy depending on which you think fits Isaac's background best. Weapons could work well for tinkering with his crossbow, alchemy could be useful for the materials work involved in golem creation.

The Exchange

Eh. I just noticed my crunch is... Missing. I'll remember to add it this afternoon.

Checking in if anyone wants to work on pre adventure connections, let me know

Human Human BldLtr 3 / Inc 3 / Shft 3 | HP: 50/50 | AC: 16, T: 14, FF: 12 | Fort: +7, Reflex: +8, Will: +7 | BAB: +3, CMB: +7, CMD: 21 | Init: +6, Perception: +9 |

That's probably a good idea. ^^ Let's see... I think Selene would have joined the RHC pretty much right after the close of the war - she was more than capable of getting things done, after all, and why let a good hero go to waste when you could use them to drum up public support instead? Accordingly, my character might not know anyone else from before joining, or in a social way - though, if we're all members of the RHC, we can probably figure out our respective roles within the organization without too much trouble...

Checking in here.

@Isaac
Hmmm, depends on what you want to do. More RP-style craft, or did you want Craft(Bow) or Craft(Weapon)?

Me thinks Craft(Stonemasonry) because of David being a Rock Golem might be key, or maybe Craft(Sculptures) for the same reason.

@Sophia
... I'm going to have to steal that Spoiler block method you got going there.

@Pre-adventure Connections
Jasper was more of a Scene Investigator/Tinkerer for the RHC previously then a combatant, and before that was the Academy and ... well a slave of Danor since birth, literally.

Actually Rosealita and Jasper could have a potential pre-adventure connection due to their shared Alchemical backgrounds, and both having been slaves/prisoners of Danor makes a possible meeting point or mutual understanding.
That and Jasper badgering Rosealita about combat and fighting, as he thinks of crafting a gun to augment his potential.

For Selene, its probably at best knowing each others names depending on how often Selene would call upon RHC to provide someone to help look into a crime scene for her. In laymans terms, Jasper would have been one of the NPCs called upon to provide some skill/crafts for a situation provided by the RHC.

For Isaac, the Academy is probably the best bet for a possible pre-adventure connection. Jasper is interested in Machines and mechanics, but has had focused on Alchemy for now but never passed up the classes (so he doesn't have a Golem and all those Gadgets that Isaac has) due to limited funds.

For Hashmal ... I can't make a potential connection off the top of my head other then something like for Selene.

For Sophia, same as Hasmal.

If anyone wants to elaborate further on potential connections with Jasper, feel free.

Character Hooks for Hashmal (I may change his name to Shemhazai, Sammy for short)will be posted later, when I can get home to my 10 minute background.

Male Half Giant Hilary Bray Machinesmith 6 | AC 19 T 12 FF 17 | HP 45/45 | F +8 R +7 W +4 | Init +1 | Perc +10

I went with craft weapons as I liked the idea of tinkering on a new crossbow. The one I have is a family heirloom so I won't mess with it. I did consider stone masonry as well for exactly the reason you said Jasper.

I think it is totally appropriate that we would be Academy classmates with a shared love of machines.

Whoops, I thought Crossbows were under Bows and not weapons. Double checked that, and saw that it was under Weapons instead.

As for shared love of machines ....

"Isaac! Is that, well by Av's reflection, you got it to WORK?! I thought it took years longer to actually be experienced enough to build a Golem that successfully moved by what all the teachers were saying?"

Pausing to catch his breath, the rambling half-elf starts trying to study the golem and peer at its joints.

"How are you getting it to move? Artificial muscles, steam, runic enchantment, the standard animation method, or did you do something new?"

Jasper seems to be in quite the questioning mood again, seeing something new and interesting that he must get details about.

To Jasper:

see PM

I've made my character a bit more divorced from everyone else than I had thought.

As far as pre-adventure ideas, if anyone visits the Bosum Strand they'll find Hashmal hanging out in an out of the way artist commune. He's strictly opposed to the building of a rail line through his bohemian paradise and you've probably seen him protesting along with other residents of that area. His mantra in life: Keep Flint weird.

I could see the alchemists buying supplies in Bosum Strand and I think his demeanor and place in life stand in sharp contrast to the members of the RHC. I'm actually looking forward to seeing how the GM plans on starting the story. If anything, Hashmal can be arrested and forced to do community service as a ward of one of those girls.

Hashmal, if you hang around with artists it's likely that Sophia knows of you. When she was at the Royal Academy of the Arts, and later at the Royal Ballet she spent quite a bit of time socializing with other performers and artists. While there would still be some class division even among artists, I'd imagine there were still trips around to see Dockers or other artists in the lower parts of Flint and Slate.

Actually I think I'm gonna swap out Knowledge(Geography) for Knowledge(Local) to better represent that period of her life and her penchant for socializing back then.

It's also possible that you were a friend of Anya, Sophia's SO, who was murdered in Danor right before they were due to return to Slate. If that were the case then Sophia and Hashmal would likely know each other somewhat, and have met again at Anya's funeral a few years prior to now.

As an aside, your stats look low. Did you do a point buy using pathfinder's method instead of 1:1?

I did. I need to fix it. But sure our characters should be acquainted then. He may have even slept over once or twice (he's homeless, but clean).

We are supposed to work for the RHC, right? I'm going to go out on a limb here, but we probably get paid enough to at least have a nice apartment somewhere unless we specifically prefer the great outdoors. Which we might. XD

Yup, I think it starts with all of us already employed by the RHC. The crashing on the couch thing would've been 9ish years ago before Sophia left to study in Danor.

Jasper! Great to see you again. Si, si I got David moving. As for how, well that would be telling now wouldn't it. Isaac grins at Jasper and anyone not used to seeing a half giant smile, well let's say it's a little unsettling.

"Oh come on, where is your heart in advancing Science, Issac!" Jasper groans out after Isaac denies answers to his queries ... again. The grin is still a little unsettling after all these years, always showing too many teeth, but its easy enough to ignore now.

"Anyways, the RHC finally approved my transfer from being a technician to a constable. I don't know if it was Serena finally getting tired of my asking, finally hitting some unknown requirement, ... or that little accident with the alchemist's fire that ate a couple of my tools and my pocket watch, that finally let them transfer me, but hey I finally got in." Jasper rambles on, though hurrying through the mention of the accident in a barely intelligible rush.

"So how has life been treating you since the Academy days?"

Heh, I hope no one minds me doing this. Its just my attempt at trying to cement a personality for Jasper. I've got an idea, but its not until I start typing it out does it start to take true shape.

Where is this conversation taking place?

If in a public place maybe others can join

Hmmm, where? Me thinks I'll just lift something from a favorite of mine.

McNally's Pub in the Bosum Strand adjacent to one of the public squares where craftsmen and artists love to setup shop. As you step down into the pub's main room, you'll notice room has low ceilings and ceiling fans and is colored in earth browns and sea greens. Items and structures are arranged around the number 13: stools at the bar, tables in the room, windows, mirrors, and ornately decorated wooden columns. The thirteen columns are carved with scenes out of Old Faith tales. The tables are worn from burn marks, whether fire or acid, and random scribbling from past craftsmen idling tinkering or testing. Of course the most famous things from the pub are the steak sandwiches and the special brew beer that McNally makes and serves warm.

Think such a place would fit for access to most if not all to congregate? Or do the DMs have a better choice instead?

Human Human BldLtr 3 / Inc 3 / Shft 3 | HP: 50/50 | AC: 16, T: 14, FF: 12 | Fort: +7, Reflex: +8, Will: +7 | BAB: +3, CMB: +7, CMD: 21 | Init: +6, Perception: +9 |

Well, I suppose a place governed by the Unseelie Accords would be a good choice in a world where fey spirits exist...

The Exchange

Why can't you do this in the gameplay thread? I know getting in your character's head is important. In fact, I've been trying to figure out my character too, but I'm a big fan of separating out OOC banter from IC storytelling. TSP has been silent for like a week now and has left us this huge sand box sitting a tab to the left. Let's go play in that until he finally gets around to posting an update.

Also. We have a 25 point but on a one-to-one power curve and we're all gestalt that makes us pretty OP starting out.

Heh, it just seemed like a good place to transplant in. If it stays and the GMs like the idea, it could stay Neutral Grounds for many sides of Flint, whether Fey, RHC, or Criminal. Otherwise, its just a throw away place that should hopefully not be somewhere one of the PC characters wouldn't/couldn't visit.

All true points Taco. Over to the Gameplay thread I guess if we keep it up?

actually it was raised to 26 points for stats.

also my favorite inn was actually in Ravenloft. run by wolf-wares.

the entire place was in a crystal cavern attached to an amphitheater.

sometimes for fun, the wolfweres would drop a drunk patron to the basement which was a mirror maze and stalk them for a bit for fun before killing them.

@GM: Are you waiting for us to complain before you tell us what's going on?

EDIT: That was rude of me, sorry about that.

I suspect he's still having some issues given that RVT had to announce who made it into the game. I know it's hard to wait without word from him, but I'm confident he'll be back to start things up as soon as he's able.

Correct - tech issues are the problem, but they will get resolved eventually. XD Be patient and enjoy other games in the meantime!

...

Or we could cooperate more on the group's backstory and how they relate, so we'll all be on the same page once we do begin. ^^

could have some role play in the meantime

I have a copy of the first module of this AP but have not read it nor played it. I could look over the begining to get an idea of where we start.

maybe RVT could possibly set it up, that way I don'thave to spoiler anything.

So its a dead given that we're all part of the RHC?

Male Half Giant Hilary Bray Machinesmith 6 | AC 19 T 12 FF 17 | HP 45/45 | F +8 R +7 W +4 | Init +1 | Perc +10

Yes, unless the DM changes things. The players guide makes it clear you are part of the RHC.

Yeah it does. I skipped the intro and went straight for the character building stuff and the world description. After reading it I think Shemhazai is serving the RHC after being arrested for protesting development in Bosum Strand. He's serving his time grudgingly and after failing at working against the government, he sees this as an opportunity to work through government to get his way. That being said, most of you would know about his ties to the community. So those of you who decide to know him personally like Sophia know he means well, but those of you who don't would probably see him as little more than a street urchin looking to earn a few bucks before deserting the RHC.

More specifically, Jasper would probably think he's ok, and the two would probably engage in long conversations about magic and arcana.

Rosealita probably wouldn't know him very well if she spends most of her time as a house servant.

Isaac (nice bible references by the way) would be largely indifferent, but he could find Shem amusing.

Selene would probably find him annoying.

Sophia thinks he's a dirty slacker but she loves him anyway.

Does that give anyone ideas or obvious character hooks to build on with Shem? I'm open to suggestions.

Thank you, I haven't introduced my simulacrum yet but he's named Goliath and of course David (besides being my oldest, is also a reference to the statue). Surprised no one has harassed me about the cheesyness of my last name.

The only problem I see with your background is that you don't get into the RHC unless you are committed to them and Risur. These are not your local cops, more akin to FBI/MI5. Anti-Establishmentism is what they work against.

Shemhazai the Lame, formerly known as Hashmal the lame. I spent about 10 seconds coming up with a name at first, so sorry if this is confusing.

Perhaps my contacts in the Vekeshi Mystics pulled some strings?

Human Human BldLtr 3 / Inc 3 / Shft 3 | HP: 50/50 | AC: 16, T: 14, FF: 12 | Fort: +7, Reflex: +8, Will: +7 | BAB: +3, CMB: +7, CMD: 21 | Init: +6, Perception: +9 |

Selene would respect people who use official methods to try and get things done - especially those who advance sensible arguments on why things ought to be done in a particular way, combining public and private interest. She is... less forgiving... of people who turn to crime in order to get what they want, or who abuse the system - I figure she has a strong admiration for the Executores Dola Liberta in Ber.

That said, she does lean towards "Ends" instead of "Means". For her, getting the job done is the most important part - but she does recognize that some means are better in the long-term than others.

Speaking of means and ends, the player's guide recommended that the group talk about the use of torture in interrogations. How do the rest of you feel about it?

(Selene opposes it, mostly because she sees it as wasteful and unlikely to produce accurate results - people would say anything to get free. She prefers to charm her way into getting information, and will actually have a few abilities supporting that.)

Not terribly opposed to the group using it, but Shem can cast dream once a day so if the interrogation isn't pressing, he could probably work over a baddie with proper use of diplomacy etc.

Keep in mind that the Dockers are somewhat anti-establishment, but are popular with the Mayor of Flint, and can definitely be members of the RHC. So long as your goal is to ensure the security of Risur, I don't think they mind if you aren't a huge fan of how the government is treating its citizens. Since you can't join the RHC without being subjected to a magical inquisition, it's impossible to join the RHC with the goal of bringing down Risur. Doesn't mean you can't work to push the government into reforms via popular action.

Isaac: I probably would've written it Kgmpss and claimed it was an unpronouncable half-giant name, but also a nice reference. Does he also have a thing for little fig-filled cookies? ;)

Re: Torture, Sophia would be strongly against physical or psychological torture, it's crude and beneath the members of the RHC. Magic coercion (like charm for instance) on the other hand is fair game.

well I do sense the first bit of opposite views.

torture... Rose would / will use it. though she may not condone it all the time, but it is a tool in her "bag of tricks" also may depend on who is being questioned.

Hmmm, I'll post more into detail and about possible connections to Shemhazai after work. I'm in a bit of a rush to think things through and read carefully at the moment.

On torture? Depends on the situation for Jasper. In general, he'll be against it unless a life is on the line, which he'll listen in to make sure the information is accurate but won't participate outside of the questions.
If a child's life is on the line, he'll be handing over a bottle of acid and other little alchemical goodies if the monster is keeping their mouth shut if someone else is willing to do the violence.
Nor is Jasper against the use of poisons, though he tries to stick to the non-lethal varieties himself. Silveroot is a favorite that he'll soon be carrying a dose constantly when he his pension can afford it.

Princey will be back tomorrow! He's had a rough week. I will have my co-GM alias up soon! I am GM The Iron Maiden!!!

ALSO FEEL FREE TO POST IN GAMEPLAY IN A TAVERN! THE RHC HAVE A FEW PREFERRED TAVERNS, BUT ONE IS 'The Blind Eye', A FAVORITE OF SOME OF THE RHC BECAUSE THE BARTENDER DOES THE EPONYMOUS 'TURNING A BLIND EYE' TO THE PATRONS ACTIVITIES, SO LONG AS THEY ARE NOT OVERTLY ILLEGAL!

RVT you cant use that name.

that is the name of my barbarian in skull and shackles game and I will get confused

Noro the Iron maiden

Well bugger, guess I'll change it!

I was only joking... but I did find it humorous as to the name choice.
