After the men and panther are incapacitated, the few gripplis in the immediate area come out of hiding and shower the party with praise before scattering to gather the other Krihirik once more.

Once the village is reassembled, Mother Bogwynne graciously accepts any tyrannosaurus eggs you have recovered. In addition, the surviving Krihirik elders agree that the talisman the dwarves gave them so many years ago is best employed by the party—especially if the rumors of the Golden Guardian awakening are true. The talisman is an egg-shaped mass of dry clay the size of a melon, its surface smoothed and intricately decorated with linear patterns, plant imprints, and the symbol of a mountain standing under dozens of stars. The talisman radiates faint transmutation magic, though this is simply a longlasting spell to preserve the clay.

Mother Bogwynne raises a hand and lifts her head as if performing a blessing, and dozens of gripplis gather to listen. “More than a thousand cycles ago, the dwarven refugees came to us from the distant north, fleeing a home lost ages ago. We aided the dwarves and welcomed them as neighbors in the nearby hills—a land even harsher than our own. When they fled their home for a second time, we offered them aid once more, though they requested only that we honor their memory and accept a gift: this talisman that bears the power to defeat the golden beast that now haunts Ashkurhall.”

She holds up a melon-sized ovoid made of clay. “The descendants of Sigrin spoke of this as their greatest treasure, which they had left behind. It is a legacy that continues to this day, for none have ever braved the Golden Guardian to claim the riches as their own.” A chorus of croaking vocalizations follows the elder’s story, and she adds, “The talisman’s power is hidden within, and it must be unsealed in the beast’s presence. To do so too soon would expend its energy needlessly or even invoke a terrible disaster. We have entrusted you with this relic of our people; use it wisely.”

Handing you the relic, Mother Bogwynne and the tribe bid you farewell and luck on your travels.

And that concludes part 2. Let me know if anyone level up and if your initiative has changed. I'll start part 3 in the morning, and get chronicles out this evening.

Antonella delivers the five dinosaur eggs to the grippli matriarch. “There you go, Mother Bogwynne. The latest additions to the Krihirik tribe! Have you thought of names for them yet?”

“The ‘prettiest’ one would be … Chochok/Chochokolate. While the most loyal and helpful dino could be named Sif/Sifvery.”

Antonella shakes her head sadly. “Oh and if you have the misfortune to rear a haughty, antisocial tyrannosaur, might I suggest the name … oh, I don’t know … Nivik, maybe?”

After successfully completing your mission, you return to Fort Bandu, stopping to find the injured miner along the way. Upon your arrival, you are soon sought out and given a letter from Venture Captain Ambrus Valsin.

Pathfinders,

News of your mission in the Bandu Hills has reached me. It is unfortunate that Venture-Captain Sharrowsmith angered the kobolds so much that they attacked the local miners, but I have also heard that thanks to your efforts, the kobolds have ceased their attacks, at least for now.

According to the latest report, you learned about an ancient monster watching over the dwarven ruins that Sharrowsmith had been studying, and you decided to visit the Kaava lands to acquire a powerful weapon that could defeat the guardian. I hope that your negotiations with the tribe of gripplis guarding the weapon were successful and you are now ready to continue your mission to find Sharrowsmith.

I want to remind you that Nieford Sharrowsmith is our foremost scholar in the region, and thus, your first priority is to bring him back alive, or at least find evidence about what has happened to him. Naturally, also record any information of historical value as you explore the ruins.

If you run into kobolds while exploring the dwarven ruins, try not to antagonize them any more than is necessary to find Sharrowsmith. The earlier trouble with the kobolds has already harmed our reputation with the locals. It is vital to the continued success of the Nantambu lodge that we secure allies, not make enemies.

One more thing: we have reason to believe that the Aspis Consortium is planning to intercept your mission and kill or kidnap Sharrowsmith. Make haste and keep an eye out for trouble at all times.

Blessing of the Ten,
Venture-Captain Ambrus Valsin

After reading the letter, you delve your memories for anything tidbit of information that could prove valuable for your mission......

Bowing to Fahd, Silvery welcomes him. "It is nice to meet you, and we will be glad for your help. This is a capable and strong team, but everyone needs a helping hand from time to time. I try to help where I can."

Once all are gathered, Sifvery offers what little she has learned. "It's funny, but most of the locals do not revall knowing about the kobolds before Sharrowsmith. The have kept quiet and out of the way. I do truly hope the guardian is not a dragon. I am not sure I am up for that meeting..."

Silver Crusade

A frown knits Antonella’s brow as she rises to greet the newcomer. I’ve seen him somewhere before. But where ..? Oh yeah, that’s right …

“Though it was not in a past life, we have met before Fahd Bin Stavain. It was at the Flaxseed Lodge in fair Cassomir. I am called Antonella – among other things … aspiring champion of the god of Knowledge.”

The priestess bows before saying. “I believe you were giving me advice on how to avoid offending swine at the time. Sadly, your wise words failed to find fertile ground in my mind, and I am as unpopular with the Aspis Consortium as ever.”

Antonella's tone is like that of a big sister. “I have discovered a fool-proof method for dealing with dragons, Sifvery. It is known as ‘running away’ or ‘retreating.’ Sadly this technique does not work for paladins. We must rely on an entirely different tactic called ‘advancing in the opposite direction.’”

"Nah, it's not a dragon, least I don't think so," Chochok offers. "Most people speculate that the creature is immortal or not a living creature. Last I heard dragons are most definitely mortal, even if they are hard to kill."

"The kobolds may have gone quiet but we should still be wary of them and their ways. I heard a story whereby decades ago a local boy went missing but returned weeks later with amazing stories about a hidden city protected by cruel traps that he only narrowly escaped. Traps? Now that sounds like kobold mischief to me. Best be keepin' on our toes, ayup."

Save for torrential rain alternating with scorching heat, the journey from Fort Bandu to Mount Nakyuk progresses smoothly. Ancient, crumbling stone buildings choked with vines and adorned with bone fetishes emerge from a patch of thick jungle underbrush. A scattering of bones and discarded tools hints that this location was recently inhabited. A gaping stairwell yawns behind a blood-spattered altar, descending to the mysterious depths where the Golden Guardian makes its home.

You recognize the stairs and altar as the place where you saved the group of miners.....

Descending the stairs into a pleasantly cool maze of half-collapsed rooms and corridors.

KN: engineering or history DC 13:
You notice that the architecture in this area is quite plain by dwarven standards, which means the dwarves probably built this area in a hurry.

KN: engineering or history DC 18:
You estimate that the ruins are about 3,000 years old.

Two granite statues of dwarves in full armor stand guard in this entrance hall, flanking the entrance to a corridor to the south. Antelope skull patterns painted in red ochre cover each statue’s face. In the wall to the south are two rust-stained iron doors.

Perception DC 12:
You notice crowbar marks on the doors.
