What about you, Mascot? Doing anything special?

Human Bounty Hunter

Drifter keeps looking for some tech storage room that might have spare parts.

UPP: A47A38; Armor 1

Mascot is moving towards Spider now that there's a possible threat. Post is on the previous page.

Sorry. Typo. Meant Drifter.

Flatfoot:
You...improbably, given the thin atmosphere... hear music and laughter coming from the door.

Spider:
Now that you're looking for them, the tracks are obvious. They appear to be work boots, small and narrow. Possibly a woman's or a small man's. They turn a corner up ahead and just stop in the middle of a narrow hallway.

Drifter:
Drifter is on his game, and sees nothing unusual as he approaches Spider's position. He adjusts his suit thermostat because it has gotten a bit cold.

Mascot:
As you move towards Spider's position, you hear a faint music over your headset. A man's voice, barely heard, crooning a song. Up ahead you notice a light. Could it be Spider?

UPP: 73A797; Armor 4/17; Injury:

Spider follows the trail to its end and stops. He looks around, up, and down for signs of a hiding place or hidden passage.

Recon + INT: 2d6 - 3 + 0 ⇒ (5, 6) - 3 + 0 = 8

Spider:
There is nothing. And, looking back, the footprints are also gone.

Male UPP: 969866; Armor: 1; Wounds: 0

Flatfoot listens for a moment, checking his communicator and trying to determine exactly where the music is coming from. After a moment, he keys his communicator.

"Guys? Is anyone else hearing music? Or other things that should not be there?"

Human Bounty Hunter

"Sandman mentioned it and I heard it earlier. I am not sure where the music is coming from though." Drifter says.

UPP: A47A38; Armor 1

"I hear it too. A soft song. How is that coming in over the comms? Are we picking up interference?

Spider, is that you with the light?" Mascot approaches the figure with the light, his rifle at the ready, but not aimed directly at the figure.

Your communicators don't show distance and direction, just signal strength. The show an uneven and wavering signal.

Mascot:
You round the corner and find that the figure is a young woman. She's dressed in a knee-length white uniform tunic, though you don't recognize the uniform. She has no breathing apparatus on and doesn't appear to be cold despite the bone-chilling temperature.

"Are you real?" she asks.

Male UPP: 969866; Armor: 1; Wounds: 0

Flatfoot keys his communicator again.

"Hail the ship! Doctor Su, please."

When the medic comes on the communicator, Flatfoot inquires about the music.

"Doctor Su, all of us out here are hearing music. Are you picking that up on the comms, too? Do you mind asking if Hopper is also hearing the music?"

Su responds "Sandman says it's intermittent. He's not playing it over the comms. So no, we can't hear it now."

UPP: A47A38; Armor 1

GM:
Mascot levels his rifle at the girl. "Who are you? I'm real. Our ship landed here recently. What's your name?"

UPP: 73A797; Armor 4/17; Injury:

Spider looks around for any sign of his quarry, or Mascot.

Recon + INT: 2d6 - 3 + 0 ⇒ (4, 3) - 3 + 0 = 4

Not seeing anyone, he answers Mascot,"I don't think so - I don't see you anywhere nearby." Then her raises his voice and addresses the darkness, "Hello? My name is Commander Webb. We don't mean you any harm - we are just here trying to refuel our ship."

Male UPP: 969866; Armor: 1; Wounds: 0

Flatfoot replies to Doctor Su, "What about Hopper? Does he hear anything?

Drifter:
None of your crew is responding on the comms.

Assume that no one can hear Drifter, even though he doesn't know that. Stick to spoiler tags for now.

Flatfoot:
The sound Hopper's voder comes clearly over your comms. "All quiet here Flatfoot. It's probably just an old recording still playing since the Virus assault. I suggest you concentrate on the fuel problem."

Assume that no one can hear Flatfoot, even though he doesn't know that. Stick to spoiler tags for now.

Mascot:
The girl smiles knowingly at Mascot , then turns and says something he can't quite hear to someone he can't see. She turns back to Mascot , but she's fading away into the dim light. He can see right through her and the sound of her voices comes to him distantly and distorted, as though through water. "rrrrrinstiturrrrrr.... rrrrruildirrrrr..." Then she is gone and Mascot is alone. His heart is pounding and he's drenched in a cold sweat.

Assume that no one can hear Mascot , even though he doesn't know that. Stick to spoiler tags for now.

Spider:
You hear a feminine giggle up ahead, then a muffled whoop of surprise, like a girl suddenly pinched. Maybe one slightly tipsy. You think of your fiancee Karina at that party at the Academy... the one where you proposed to her. There is a glowing light around the next bend.

Assume that no one can hear Spider, even though he doesn't know that. Stick to spoiler tags for now.

UPP: 73A797; Armor 4/17; Injury:

GM:
Spider slowly moves forward towards the light. He triggers his comm, "It sounds like a girl, I'm moving closer to see." As he approaches the bend, he calls out, "Hello? Can you hear me?"

Human Bounty Hunter

GM:
Drifter continues scavenging for a bit until he grows concerned by the lack of comm traffic. He then decides to make his way back to the main building to see if the others meet up there.

UPP: A47A38; Armor 1

GM:

Mascot's heart thuds hard in his chest. He raises the rifle and scans the area, a bit frantic. "Uh, um. There was a girl and she just disappeared. And not went away. She literally faded away right in front of me." He kneels down where she disappeared and looks for any sign of her or what might have caused her appearance. His brain suddenly considers that she could have been a hologram or some other light projection.

Male UPP: 969866; Armor: 1; Wounds: 0

GM:
Reassured by the response by his crewmates aboard the ship, Flatfoot moves from his hiding place towards the door. Perhaps this places does have power which will help with producing fuel for the ship.

Spider:
There is a strange noise around him, a sort of rippling sound, like water lapping on the shores of a lake. Then, he suddenly sees her. Short and muscular, she most likely hails from a high-gravity world just like Spider. She is dressed in what you can only describe as an evening gown, including long gloves and a string of gemstones around her neck. What is stranger is the room around her...weren’t you in a hallway a moment ago? Anyway, the room is decorated in an antique style, with real wood furniture and a high bookcase filled with ancient-style books. She has a wired device held to her head, but she puts it down on a small cradle and looks up at you as you enter.

”You’re not what I expected,” she said. ”Is this Lexol? Are you Doctor Heineman?”

Drifter:
From a high window, Drifter sees a light on in the low buildings behind the fuel depot. It wasn’t there before. As he makes his way down the open gantry of the fuel refinery, he hears someone talking not far ahead. He recognizes Mascot, kneeling in the middle of a catwalk, perilously close to a long drop to the refinery floor.

Flatfoot:
Flatfoot opens the door and finds himself in a road vehicle blazing along a country road somewhere at a decidedly unsafe speed. The motor shifts and Flatfoot looks over at the young driver of the vehicle. Blonde and tanned, her University of Aubaine T-shirt faded by the sun, she laughs at his surprise and presses the accelerator even further. ”You think we’ll make Lexol in time if I let you drive? Relax, sailor and let a professional do the driving.”

Mascot:
There is no answer on your comms. But faint and far away you hear the music playing again. Midnight with the stars and you...Midnight and a rendez-vous...

Human Bounty Hunter

gm:
Drifter calls up to Mascot, "Why are you up there? Do you see anything useful?"

Male UPP: 969866; Armor: 1; Wounds: 0

GM:
"Let's go! We need to get back as quickly as possible!," replies Flatfoot.

He relaxes, leaning back into the seat and enjoying the wind blow through his air and the warmth of the Aubaine sun on his face.

"Say, are we going to need to stop for fuel? I could use a break and stretch my legs."

UPP: A47A38; Armor 1

GM:
Mascot lowers his rifle. "Comm check... Can anyone read me?" He removes his comm for a moment to check to see if the music is only through the radio or if it's live.

UPP: 73A797; Armor 4/17; Injury:

GM:
Has Spider ever heard of a Dr Heineman? Or a place called Lexol?

Drifter and Mascot:
Mascot, Drifter's voice close at hand breaks you out of your reverie and you realize that you're kneeling in front of a long fall off a high catwalk. You've no idea how you got there. Your rifle is shouldered and not in your hands.

Drifter, you see Mascot start as if startled and nearly pitch forward to his death. He stops and looks at you.

You can talk to each other, but neither of you can raise Spider, Flatfoot or Resolution on comms.

Flatfoot:
"Soon," she says. "We're almost there. "

[ooc]Something seems strange about this, but Flatfoot isn't certain why. Maybe it's a bit of anxiety about the destination. He seems to remember that they were going to a secret beach she knew about. Someplace special - he's a little fuzzy on the details, actually.

Spider:
Spider seems to think that Lexol was the name of a star system two (or was it three?) parsecs from here. He's never heard of Heineman.

Human Bounty Hunter

Mascot and GM:
"Why are you up there? Do you see any supply depots we can raid?" Drifter calls up.

UPP: A47A38; Armor 1

Drifter and GM:
"What the devil?" He blinks his eyes and looks down to Drifter. "How did I get up here? There was a girl and she just disappeared. Did you see her?" He steps away from the edge.

He turns slowly, looking out from his perch for any supplies

Male UPP: 969866; Armor: 1; Wounds: 0

GM:
"So, where exactly are we going? Have you taken any other guys there?," asks Flatfoot.

The nagging feeling could be for so many reasons.

"What makes this place so special?,"

Human Bounty Hunter

Mascot and GM:
"Nope." Drifter replies as he looks around. "Something is odd about this place. I was heading back to the main building to try and find the others since the radio died. Come on down and lets locate the others."

UPP: A47A38; Armor 1

Drifter and GM:
"Yeah, sounds like a plan. Maybe we should get out of here." Mascot glances around for anything he can see from the platform, then heads down to Drifter.

Just giving (a reportedly very busy) Spider time to check in.

UPP: 73A797; Armor 4/17; Injury:

GM:
Sorry, Scott, work has sort of taken over. I will try to get back to the other games tomorrow.

Spider looks around the room, then wrinkles his brow as he looks at the woman. "No", he shakes his head, "I'm Commander Webb, and we're a long way from Lexol. What...how did you get here?"

Drifter and Mascot:
You both realize you're not where you expected, though it still seems as though you're probably in the refinery building. Your equipment status is nominal.

Your comms crackle. "MS-7? I say again, this is Sandman. If you can hear me and cannot respond, be advised that Doctor Su and Hopper are suiting up and will be inbound to your last known position in ten minutes. I have localized the anomalous transmission. It appears to be emanating from the low building a hundred meters east of the refinery. Advise your situation if possible. Sandman out."

Flatfoot:

She laughs at the first question, but looks seriously at him for the second. "We've got to get there, of course. Getting to Lexol will prove the doctor was right. It will prove we can do it. It could win the whole war."

Spider:
No problem, Nick!

"What do you mean? If this isn't Lexol, where are we? Where's Doctor Heineman? Are you even with the project?"

Around you, the image of the wood-panelled drawing room begins to waver, like a ripple going through reality.

UPP: A47A38; Armor 1

Drifter and GM:
"Sandman, Mascot. Negative on Dr. Su and Hopper exiting the ship. We're experiencing some sort of hallucinations, perhaps brought on by that signal. We don't know the extent and they could fall victim if they exit the ship. Have them suit up, though, and prepare for our arrival.

We have no comms with Flatfoot or Spider. Drifter and I are returning to the ship. I need the Doc to do quick examination of us before we go to retrieve the others. Can you try to isolate that signal? Maybe find a way to jam that frequency? And can you detect any lifeforms in that building?" He looks to Drifter for any other ideas.

Human Bounty Hunter

Mascot and GM:
"I agree that the Su and Hopper need to stay put. But I think we need to hit whatever is sending the frequency now. I am going to start heading that way." Drifter says as he starts looking to find a way to the other building.[/b]

Male UPP: 969866; Armor: 1; Wounds: 0

GM:
"What's so special about Lexol? Why would it prove the doctor right? Just want to know, because I am tired of this war, too," asks Flatfoot.

UPP: 73A797; Armor 4/17; Injury:

GM:
"Well, I'm pretty sure I landed my ship on Lira a couple of hours ago, but I can't speak to where you are. What exactly is this project you mentioned?"

Drifter and Mascot:
There is no technological ability to detect "life signs" in this universe, so I'll ignore that part.

"Mascot, Sandman. Acknowledged. Dr. Su says that your suits should exclude any hallucinogens so long as you keep them buttoned up. The signal is strange. It fades in and out at irregular intervals. I can try to jam it, yes. Initiating signal jamming now."

Flatfoot:
She turns to look at Flatfoot more curiously. "Because it would give us instantaneous..."

In that instant, Flatfoot finds himself back on Lira. He is in the courtyard between the refinery and the low building a hundred meters away, walking towards the low building. He spots Spider a few meters to his left, walking the same way.

Spider:
"Lira? But... we should have left there already!"

In that instant, Spider finds himself back on Lira. He is in the courtyard between the refinery and the low building a hundred meters away, walking towards the low building. He spots Flatfoot a few meters to his left, walking the same way.

Comms restored. You can all speak to each other in the open again.

Male UPP: 969866; Armor: 1; Wounds: 0

Flatfoot keys his comm. "Uhh ... that was ... weird is the best description. What has been happening?"

Human Bounty Hunter

"Sandman found a building projecting a signal intermitantly. That is what caused the confusion. He is blocking it, but we should investigate and shut it down in case someone else stumbles onto this place." Drifter says as he begins heading to where Sandman told them to go.

UPP: A47A38; Armor 1

"Let's rally up. Are you two ok? Drifter caught me about to take a header off a high catwalk." As they move together, he asks them about what they saw. "Anyone see a girl in their hallucination? She disappeared right in front of my eyes. But I think she was trying to tell me something."

Male UPP: 969866; Armor: 1; Wounds: 0

"You, too?," asks Flatfoot. "I knew her, I thought. And she was about to tell me something, too."

"Spider, you are close to me. I had seen a building here with a light on right before ... you know. I am not certain what Sandman, Doctor Su and Hopper actually said to me."

"Flatfoot, only I spoke to you," says Sandman. "Anything with Dr. Su and Hopper must have been an hallucination."

Spider moves to join Flatfoot. "Drifter, Mascot, join us in the courtyard," he says. "We're going to find out what's happening. Let's keep fire discipline in case we start to hallucinate again."

"Sandman," he continues. "I want regular check-ins every ten minutes. If we don't respond for three hours, you are not to risk the lives of doctor or Hopper. Return to Dawn Base and report."

"Acknowledged, Captain," says Spider.

Players, how about you take it from here and I'll chime in as Spider from time to time until Nick gets back?

Human Bounty Hunter

Drifter takes point and begins heading to the building.

Male UPP: 969866; Armor: 1; Wounds: 0

Flatfoot follows Drifter, staying off to one side slightly. He looks around, looking for ... he doesn't know what, really ... in the shadows around the other buildings.

UPP: A47A38; Armor 1

Mascot rejoins the others as they move in formation to the building. He eyes the shadows, thinking that he might just see the girl again.

Recon, Int: 2d6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (5, 4) + 1 + 1 = 11

The low building is about forty meters long and four high. There are a few windows at the east end, but not the west end. There is a single door at the east end. It is a standard sliding door, but stands at an odd angle. Clearly it was once broken outwards long ago. Snow swirls around the entrance and the dark, narrow opening.

Human Bounty Hunter

Drifter puts his back to the wall and moves as quietly as possible as he goes to the door and listens to see if he hears anything moving within before looking in.

Stealth+Dex: 2d6 + 0 + 1 ⇒ (4, 5) + 0 + 1 = 10

Recon+Int: 2d6 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (1, 6) + 1 - 1 = 7

I am not sure Int is right for Recon, but it seems like the correct stat.

UPP: A47A38; Armor 1

Mascot moves to the side of the door, waiting for Drifter's signal on what he sees.

Stealth, Dex: 2d6 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (1, 5) + 1 - 1 = 6
