You can definitely retrain. There's no ticking clock going...yet.
If I may offer an observation relevant to everyon - sooner or later you're going to face the creature mentioned in the game's title. You may wish to build toward that. Think about what such a creature can do and what you'd have to do to overcome it.
I think the idea of a cleric is a good one.
Last thought - I know most of you are old hands at Pathfinder, but I also know that at least one of you isn't. If anyone wants to consult with me on building a new character, I'm available.

Actually, I was thinking cleric, so I can take you up on that Val. I am currently thinking dwarven cleric, but let me play with some ideas and see what I get. I liked Eli, but every time I try an archer type, I am just not thrilled with it.

I am working on mine now. I assume original character build options (20 pt, background skills). I have two clerics in mind, but leaning toward the dwarf who is odd among his kind because rather than being tied to the earth, this guy always wanted to soar among the clouds as a bird. Domains will be Feather and Light, a worshipper of Easivra, the Dawn Eagle. He would be versatile - straight cleric with channelling, spells, and a little tanky for help in combat.
The other option is a gnome cleric based on luck and trickery, sort of a leprechaun, but she would be purely a support character - buff and defuff focused. But I feel like we might need the extra combat support more.
A few questions, GM:
- How much money for equipment?
- Can I take an alternative race trait? I think it is called Wyrmscourge, which replaces a few bits of standard dwarf with some bonuses vs dragons, but it fits my flavor better too. This won't be a make or break for the build, so no worries if you prefer keeping it more Core.

I'm going to remain the fighter meat-shield and keep Thorny, but I'm going to optimize him. I think he's at least 60% there (conservative estimate) but he needs moderate tweaking.
I probably won't even be able to crack a book on this until Sunday, however. I accept any and all recommendations from anyone with input.

Thorny, I think you have two problems:
1) Your ability scores. You have a huge STR and DEX and nothing else. You don't really use that DEX for anything but AC and a hope at attacks of opportunity. You need CON to bring up your hit points.
2) Reach weapon. Someone needs to stand in the front line and that someone is you. I'd ditch the reach weapon and Combat Reflexes with it.
Also, your Veteran of Battle trait requires you to be a follower of Gorum, but you are Lawful Good.
Here's a suggested alternative:

I agree with the Dex to Con move. There are all kinds of fighters, but since this module has been pretty brutal, I think finesse is less helpful than bulk. Hence my change to a well-armored and high hp cleric. (This is Eli, btw).
I was also focusing on preventing fear effects, so I like this build, but maybe take a looks at my new offering and see if that helps you with any other ideas you may have.

I like it. Moving from Dex to Con is absolutely a core correction, as is abandoning the group-oriented "phalanx fighter" I originally built him as. At the time, I was strongly all-in with a background story more than I was thinking about being an RPG group's meat-shield.
I apologize for spending no time on this, this weekend. I'm currently earning too much overtime (read: neglecting everything) to prepare to teach a course this week. At the risk of appearing to take the easy way out, I do like the suggested build you have for Thorny above and would be hard pressed to find something to change. It's well rounded, and provides the front line fighter the group desperately needs.
Really, the only thing I see that might need changing is to abandon Thorny altogether and use the build as a completely new person. Maybe he perished at the hands of that bear. In the end, he proved he wasn't a coward, just an idiot for kicking that rug :D
I'll come back at this soon with a new persona and background story.

On a side note - got the campaign bookmarked on the laptop for vacation 8/20-31. Just got a new phone three days ago and getting it there also just in case... It's all a matter of connectivity now.

So sorry. I'm a jerk. Here's Jayla the Elven Slayer

I think I'm largely done. I kept nearly all of what you generated for a Thorny retrofit.
Background is a bit thin but enough to start and link him up with the current story line. If we haven't started a new story line by Sunday afternoon US East Coast time, I may be tweaking a few things up until then.

First of all, CariMac, you're nothing of the sort. I think very highly of you. Of all of you.
Second, it seems that only Liam survived The Great Bear Massacre. He will be joined by Brandor, a dwarf cleric; Jayla, an elven slayer; and Edo a human fighter.
Liam, how do you see this going? Give me the broad strokes of what happens between Liam fleeing the mansion and returning with new companions.

Jayla slays everything. Her jokes are legendary especially with the elves.

He said he was going to be on vacation until the 31st. He was going to try to check in either on his new phone or his laptop to try and participate. Connectivity must not have been optimal while away.

I hope it was a good trip Liam.

Just throwing it out there... Liam may be the survivor, but he cannot lead from the front --- please, other players, do not wait on me to guide, at about this point we are all discovering all new things again, and Liam cannot be point-halfling with his AC and HP...

I am going to Arizona and might be out of contact for a few days (10/07-10/10.)
re: Hunclay and the tower... I can't seem to get over how the GM described that tower blocked very little of his view of the sky, it nags me.

Happy Thanksgiving to you too.

Sorry for the absence. Had (and still having) problems signing back in to paizo via my usual route... Duckduckgo through Microsoft Edge. Even deleting all the cookies from Edge for the last week still kept me bombed me out, so I went into Chrome (which I hate.... seriously, f**k Google.)
So I will work through hated Chrome for this until I can get back to normal.
