Val goes in search of better armor. "I seem to end up at the front lines, and I need better protection."
She's trying to find an Agile Breastplate or Chainmail. Something that protects better than her leather armor. She'll also look for a Masterwork Heavy Mace.
Little Liam |
What of the rest of the gold from the loot?
20% to party fund, split everything else?
I don't begrudge Val better armor or weapon - she (and we) really need them both... Are we buying through the party fund or her personal, or combo of both?
Wilham "Thorny" Thornbriar |
1,895 gp - 20% (379 gp) toward the party fund = 1516 remaining.
1516 / 4 people = 379 gp a piece.
1,200 gp from Amethyst gems = 300 gp trade-in value (or more coins if the town economy can support the exchange).
That's about 679 gp spending money for each person. Please validate that I didn't miss anything from earlier.
I think new gear should come from personal funds, but healing potions and other items of a community nature could come from the party fund?
Little Liam |
We have conflicting party fund amounts. If you want, I will delete and let you manage.
I play Liam as not into the "search the bodies" type, and without quick resolution of the status of loot, things can get confused. Best to have one person manage - and the most likely candidate is the one who loots.
Eliastra Greenbow |
What do you have that conflicts? I am sure I haven't kept that close of track - only recently tried to reconcile it. I keep it accessible so anyone can commit on adds/removes.
Little Liam |
I've got 486gp as the total after 20% of the 1,895 being added, before anything from the mines gets sold, and not including the gems (which I guess we are keeping individually - not making waves, have no issues with that.)
Wilham "Thorny" Thornbriar |
Did anyone buy healing potions from Xemne before we departed? I was tracking that those were party fund purchases? Thorny has no healing potions in his inventory.
If it's not too late, I recommend grabbing a few. Maybe 3 or 4. Or less.
Little Liam |
Eli grabbed one, it's in the game thread. Believe that was all Xemne offered up was one -- but she recommended a few other places to go to possibly get some resource assistance to Eli and Eli did not communicate that in game.
Little Liam |
Sorry - realized that came off a little snarky and accusatory - was not my intent, was just laying out the facts. I do my best not to metagame, and I harbor no ill will towards the player for this, just playing the cards that we are dealt.
Wilham "Thorny" Thornbriar |
It's all good. Thanks for the recap. I've not been as attentive to detail as I have been in the past, due to...well... everything. I could have put a little more effort in and just gone over the thread.
Thanks, again.

I was born for quarantines. I'm staying in, reading and not talking to people - just like I always have. In fact, the only way I know there's a quaratine going on is that everyone's home all the time. I'm the only guy I know complaining of too much human interaction. :-)
My kids are probably getting more education right now then ever before, honestly, because the school has them online from 8:30-Noon and I have them in "Dad's Classroom" from 1:30-4:00. We study astronomy, science, geography, history, logic, art, music, English, French, computers, math and ethics. They'll be just fine.
It's my wife who's probably suffering the most - she's an extrovert who likes to talk to people and very nearly germophobic. She's caught in a permanent Clorox wipe loop.
Valena Lasca |
I'm surprised at how much I need to get outside. I love staying home, reading, working on projects etc. I'm also working from home. It makes turning work off a little difficult in the evenings sometimes.
Hubby isn't out doing things and wants to spend the evenings playing online games together. That's seriously cutting into my PBP posting time.
The dog is in heaven. Walks every day. No kiddos to worry about educating. The dog however has lost all of her obedience lessons.
Wilham "Thorny" Thornbriar |
I, also, am kind of loving this. I hack for a living and being able to run tests on my home lab is far superior and efficient than doing it at work (go Army?).
Like you, Val, it also makes it hard to turn work off in the evening and, like you Scott, I feel like I was born for this... but my wife is meant for museums and botanical gardens. She's struggling the most since our 4 year old is no longer in kindergarten and she's got them both full force for about 9 hours a day. At least I'm around to come upstairs when I hear the screaming getting a little too blood-curdling.
Scott, that sounds like really great structure for them.
Little Liam |
My kids are grown, one out of the house, the other finishing his music composition degree via online courses since the college is shut.
Wife recently had hip replacement surgery, so her office shutting down happened before she was ready to get back to work anyways.
I do production scheduling for a manufacturer, and our work is considered essential. We are waaaay busy. Only one customer has asked for a delay, all others still want their products yesterday, in the early AM yesterday if possible. I'm fortunately IT-connected enough that I can work from home a few days out of the week, but I don't like it - feel far more effective on site.
Corporate has been 100% awesome during this "thing." Offering $$$ incentives to work longer and harder during this whole thing, over and above what overtime the hourly's would normally get, and no questions asked if you want/need to leave for a spell because you are uncomfortable with the level of precautions.

I have created a guide to the Pathfinder Second Edition Wizard.
HERE IS THE FIRST DRAFT. I would appreciate your comments and criticisms.
Also, enjoy!

My work has been crazy this last few weeks, and is not going to let up for a few more. Unfortunately I am finding little time to spend here, but I will try to keep things moving as best I can. Thank you for your patience.

I am absolutely no help with your product review apart from saying it looks extraordinarily well thought out. :) I wish I had time to give it a proper examination to give you meaningful feedback, but I can only promise that I will be using it the next time I level up, since it applies to Thorny. Nice work!
GM Tarondor |
Remember, this game was begun for the group that wanted a slower pace! :-)
It's worth noting that those guides are written for Pathfinder 2e and we're still using Pathfinder 1e.
I love 2e, but I don't sense that this group will want to change editions mid-game. Also, most of the problem I had with 1e occur after 7th level, and this game will end at 7th level.
Valena Lasca |
I've played a little bit of 2nd Ed. I enjoy your guides a lot, and I'm looking forward to reading it. I love fighters.
I have a second edition ranger and she's a hoot.
Little Liam |
Playing "Ack the Fantasikal" (2e goblin aberrant sorcerer) is a hoot, but I am not a big fan of 2e. Spoiled too much by 1e and find a lot of the options/feats/progressions for 2e allowable at their levels underwhelming. Like I said... spoiled.
It's the group I play with that I love - not the system - so I try to be enthused, but really feel like the restrictions in options and advancement are stifling.

Oh, I'm not knocking the current pace! Sometimes it's too slow for me, sometimes it's too fast... averages says it's perfect :)
Don't mind me. I'd make the same flippant comment about levelling up if this game were at the speed of sound. Historically, all games I've played in have been rogue-types (I really loved playing the Akashic in Arcana Evolved). This is probably my first time ever playing a "tank" and I'm interested in exploring how he progresses.
To be completely clear: I enjoy this game immensely in its current incarnation and would follow it wherever it goes: 1e, 2e, 20th level.

I think you may find what you're looking for in the Advanced Player's Guide out today.
GM Tarondor |
So let's talk. I see zero chance that this bear won't kill you. I've never had this problem in either my previous two Dragon's Demand campaigns, but this time is different. Bad luck, low armor classes and not a lot of combat optimization have sunk you.
What would you like to do? If we play it straight, most or all of you will be dead in two rounds.
Assuming a miracle doesn't save you, would you like to:
A) TPK and call it a day?
B) TPK and bring in new characters?
C) Say you crawl out bloody and in dire need of help?
Little Liam |
"It's all a bad dream," retcon at the door before entering.
PC's can decide to back off, take stock and re-evaluate their preparation & actions after the vision of what inevitably lies ahead.
Eliastra Greenbow |
Ha!
Yah, when I didn't hit with a 21, I knew we were hosed. I think we were balanced, but not very optimized. Also, the dice gods have just not been on our side.
I am good with any option. Eli was working her way to an exit anyway, trying to legitimately crawl out bloody and regroup. But sometimes in this game, you just don't survive.
I just had my first party TPK (they got eaten by a giant plant!) I felt bad, but they just walked in totally unprepared - kinda like we did here!
If we bring in new characters, I will probably try a full cleric or bard to provide some support and some combat. What are we, about 1/3 through it?
Wilham "Thorny" Thornbriar |
Thorny is never touching a bear skinned rug again.
Least disruptive would be option C, but B would give us (me) a chance to build better optimize the characters.
This campaign has made me realize how very little I've played fighters in my on-and-off D&D career.
Little Liam |
Yea, I never went for optimized with Liam, I went with the gooey theme and embraced the inexperienced nature of his backstory by making choices in line with that.
I don't usually optimize anyways, but I think Liam is so far into the theme that my choices have become a liability to the party survival by not embracing more "blaster-type" offensive capabilities.
Little Liam |
As an FYI... I will be going on vacation from 8/20-8/31. Lake Shasta.
I have to work out the kinks first, but I may still have connectivity and the ability to post -- but just in case, wanted to give fair warning ahead of time.
Valena Lasca |
I'm fine with dying and coming back as different characters, and moving on from there. I've GMed two TPKs myself. Sometimes it just happens.
We didn't buff, we all went in, and Val sucks at the up front combat she likes to do.
GM Tarondor |
Liam - Option 3
Thorny - Option 2 or 3
Eliastra - Any Option
Valena - Option 2
GM: Option 2 and 3.
Each of you may decide whether your character survives the bear attack. Those who survive will barely (bearly?) crawl out alive and be incapable of returning for a week.
Those of you who decide that your character died can come back as a new character.
Discuss!
Liam, have a good vacation. I never went to Lake Shasta, but I did drink the cola...
Little Liam |
I would come back with my own question. If Liam crawls out, barely alive, could I take the 1wk downtime as opportunity to rebuild Liam?
Options:
1) Keep bloodline - retrain spell selection.
2) Change Bloodline - retrain spell selection.
Valena Lasca |
If Eli wanted to make a cleric, I could go for the damage class. I was thinking Slayer, rogue or investigator.
I'm also fine with crawling out of the room and keeping the same characters.
Liam if you wanted to stay Liam, I don't mind changing your spell selection of course I'm not the GM. :)
