Sarkast |

Loot noted on tracking sheet, heavy stuff is assumed to be left on the floor until we are done so no one is encumbered by it.
Trying to avoid letting my birds-eye view of the map influence in-character knowledge; does anyone in the group have an appropriate skill (or would it simply be perception) to realize that the interior we have seen doesn't match up to the exterior walls?
As Irabeth tries to clean the altar and Ayesha searches the bodies, Sarkast gives a critical eye to the sword. Checking to ensure it has not been booby-trapped in any way, he looks at the blade to see why it is set aside.
Take 10 for 21 Perception checking the exterior for any traps as well as any indications of how it might be special. Take 10 for 16 Craft (weapons) to appraise the blade itself.

Irabeth of Iomedae |

Sarkast looks over the case carefully, and it is just a plain sword case. He opens the case to reveal a beautiful longsword, with the star burst of Iomedae emblazoned on the hilt. As he looks it over, Irabeth lets out a gasp from the next room.
"That... that's my father's sword! That's my sword! What's it doing here?"

Nilus Romani |

Perhaps the demons took it? Nilus offers as way of an explanation.

Dejik |

Dejik absorbs the wound Sarkast took from the dretch. With all the cultists and demons dead, Dejik holds the symbol of Iomedae and calls on the divine energy.
Jinxx: 4 dmg
Dejik: 12 dmg
Samra:
Ayesha: 3 dmg
Danis:
Nilus: 4 dmg
Irabeth: 3 dmg
Sarkast: 2 dmg
Lam:
Doron:
Ronan: 6 dmg
Channel positive energy: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
...but the influence of the desecrated shrine is too great for her to overcome.
Everyone heals a whopping 2 points. Dejik heals 4.
With the rest of the group mostly healed, Dejik touches her chest and asks Iomedae for help.
Lay on hands (swift action): 1d6 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 2 = 7
Jinxx: 2 dmg
Dejik: 1 dmg
Samra:
Ayesha: 1 dmg
Danis:
Nilus: 2 dmg
Irabeth: 1 dmg
Sarkast: 0 dmg
Lam:
Doron:
Ronan: 2 dmg
Dejik has a handy haversack, if we need to carry heavy things.

Irabeth of Iomedae |

Irabeth looks it over, shaking her head slowly. "No. I... I had to sell it to afford a gift for Anevia. It is potent against demons. I suppose it was taken from Kandro Nyserian after the demons took him." She looks hopefully at the group. "May I? I never thought I would see this weapon again."
As Irabeth looks over her room, Sarkast notices something as he wonders about the strange layout of the house. A section of the wall in the temple is glowing faintly, showing the outline of a door.

Nilus Romani |

"Of course my lady, it is your weapon and we are in desperate straits. " Nilus says, not caring much about the legalities of stolen/sold items.

Ayesha Jalal |

Ayesha laid the alchemists' loot on the table where they could sort through it and lay claim to needed objects. As she did, she mentally switched to her arcane vision, trying to sort out the magical from the mundane.
When Irabeth spoke up, Ayesha leaned over to look at it. "It is indeed a beautiful weapon. And, if it has powers against these demons, then take it up once more. I hardly think anyone here would mind you taking back what was once yours."
She was distacted by Sarkast staring intently at what was apparently a blank section of the wall. "Sarkast, what is it? Have you found something?"
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22

Sarkast |

Sarkast nods and points to a section of the wall near the defiled altar. "Something was bothering me about the space ... we haven't reached the exterior wall yet. This is why."
He motions to the outline of the door while he checks for any traps and a trigger mechanism to open it.
Take 10 for 21 Perception. If there is a trap, attempt to ascertain if taking 10 (for 19) is sufficient. If not, roll for me.

Sarkast |

Sarkast examines the area around the outline of the door and finds latch, trigger, or traps.
I suspect there was a "no" in there ... but you're saying we can't find any way to open the door?

Dejik |

Dejik examines the door with magic. [b]Sarkast, didn't Aravashniel give you something that could help open doors?{/b]
Detect Magic. I think Sarkast has a chime of opening.

GM SpiderBeard |

There is no visible way to open the door. Dejik casts detect magic. Strangely, she detects no magical glow beyond that of the door itself. As she looks at the glow, she realises that she could sense it outside of her range of vision before approach. It is unusually 'clear' to her, more so than anything else.

GM SpiderBeard |

I'll assume someone rings the bell.
Ding!
The chime of opening overrides whatever mechanism kept the door shut, and it shudders for a moment before swinging open to reveal an armory.
This small chamber is free of dust. A holy symbol of Iomedae hangs unmolested on the wall above a weapon rack filled with swords, crossbows, and spears. Three wooden dummies wear pristine suits of armor. A shelf holds several leather quivers, each stamped with a golden sun. Two silver shields hang from pegs on the wall.
The following items are found within:
- Three cold iron longswords
- Two cold iron shortswords
- Two heavy crossbows
- A composite longbow with a 14 strength rating
- A masterwork cold iron heavy mace
- Two cold iron longspears
- 50 cold iron bolts
- 100 cold iron arrows
- masterwork chainmail
- 1 heavy steel shield (Iomedae's symbol)
- 1 masterwork heavy steel shield (Iomedae's symbol)
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28
The following items detect as magical and are identified between Ronan, Dejik, and Ayesha:
- +1 longsword
- 5 +1 arrows
- an arrow of evil outsider slaying
- +1 breastplate (emblazoned with Iomedae's symbol)
- +1 blinding shield

Irabeth of Iomedae |

Delighted with finding her father's sword, Irabeth tries an experimental cut in the air. She gasps in astonishment as the door opens to reveal the wealth of arms and armour within.
"Truly a blessing from the Inheritor. We were meant to find this place!"
The paladin may speak truth. That wall did not glow for the demons, I am certain.

Nilus Romani |

We should leave this, this belongs to the Paladins and followers of the Inheritor. Take what we need and move on, this does not belong us. Nilus says

Ayesha Jalal |

"Unfortunately, we do not know what we may need until we encounter it. I say we take what we can, and return it afterwards if necessary. The cold iron arrows especially will be useful in fighting demons. Irabeth is likely right, as I doubt even the best-hidden door would have survived the magical investigations of the demons and cultists."
"If nothing else, we should take this back to the Heart and share it out with the remaining defenders. It could go a long way in pushing the demons out of Kenebras and keeping them out."

Irabeth of Iomedae |

Irabeth glances over at Nilus.
"I am the commander of the remaining forces in Kenabres, Nilus. Take everything we can use; the fate of Mendev depends on our work. That said, you are correct. This is not looting and anything that cannot be used by this party will be picked up by the crusade if we all survive this."

Dejik |

Dejik smooths the wrinkles out of the symbol of Iomedae on her tabard. Irabeth and I are paladins and followers of the Inheritor. The rest are back at Defender's Heart, scrounging for supplies to fight back the invaders.
She gestures to the door. I believe Iomedae led us here. I could actually see that door. I couldn't guess what it meant until I saw what was inside.

Nilus Romani |

Sorry, I think my previous post might have been very miscommunicated on my part. What I meant was that Nilus doesn't feel comfortable "looting" what is essentially an armory dedicated to Iomedae. I mean yeah, if he could use it he would take it to help defeat the demons but he would put it back after. Taking stuff from this place just to sell it later seems wrong.

Sarkast |

"As you say, Irabeth, we should use what we can, then send someone from Defender's Heart to collect the rest once we have secured this place."
Not having any use for the specific weapons in this armory, Sarkast moves back to the room the dretches had occupied to wait for everyone to be ready to continue.
By now the grease should be gone; Sarkast will move quietly and watch the room until everyone forms up. He won't go around the corner to look at the stairs yet, but will listen for any sounds coming from that direction and warn if he hears anything.

GM SpiderBeard |

Heavy crossbows do 1d10 damage, but take a full round to load.
Lam moves closer to the armory. "Do you mind if we take the long and shortswords? These clubs aren't too much use against the demons. We can also restock our arrows."

Dejik |

Sorry, I think my previous post might have been very miscommunicated on my part. What I meant was that Nilus doesn't feel comfortable "looting" what is essentially an armory dedicated to Iomedae. I mean yeah, if he could use it he would take it to help defeat the demons but he would put it back after. Taking stuff from this place just to sell it later seems wrong.
I agree. Dejik figures we'll take the stuff back to Defender's Heart to restock the crusaders. It didn't even occur to her to sell it..

Dejik |

Lam, please take them. Samra, hold onto this bow, too. It's not as well made as yours, but the material will make your arrows hit harder.
While the mongrelmen are arming themselves, Dejik collects the used arrows from the previous fight. She sighs as she pick up the broken one from the wall. I suppose these Elven glue-shaft arrows have a breaking point, after all. Still, that's the first one I've broken in months--well worth the extra gold, to be sure.

Irabeth of Iomedae |

The mongrels file in. Lam and Doron take the longswords while Danis grabs the heavy mace. Samra takes the mighty bow and a shortsword.
Irabeth follows and gravitates towards the blinding shield. She straps it on and grins.
"I don't see anyone else using a shield and this could be of great use. Dejik, I can feel the Inheritor's blessing in your bow. Please take those arrows."
She taps her sword against the shield and looks around at the group.
"That breastplate or the chainmail has to be of use to someone, but we shouldn't tarry. Grab what you need and let us continue."

GM SpiderBeard |

Sarkast remains crouched by the stairwell and listens intently while the rest of the group arm themselves. After a moment it becomes abundantly clear that there is a large group waiting atop the stairs, and they are growing impatient. His grasp of abyssal helps out and he can pick up snippets of conversation.
"We need to release the Peryton, I know everyone down there is dead!"
"And we'll be dead too if we release that foul beast. Damn Jeslyn and her cowardice. If she joined us we'd have a fighting chance. We're just here as a sacrifice."
"How dare you call the priestess a coward! She must guard the wardstone at all costs. We will be honoured to die, and shall not. Baphomet is with us and we will prevail!"
There is loud grumbling at the last words and everyone shuts up.
A peryton is a hybrid creature with a stag's body, hawk's wings, and an antlered wolf's head. They are known to be amongst the most savage, uncontrollable, vicious creatures imaginable, and are known to rip the hearts out of still-living beings.

Ayesha Jalal |

arcana: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
"Did you say a peryton? Vicious mixtures of all kinds of animals, and evil to boot. We need to get in there and stop them before they release that creature!" Ayesha dropped her hand into her pocket and gripped the spell-imbued pearl that lay there. Concentrating, she deliberated on which spell to recall, but finally decided to go with the lightning in a bottle that she had used on the alchemist.
Last pearl of power use for the day, recalling Shocking Grasp.

Nilus Romani |

Nilus girds himself for charging up the stairs. As soon as the party is ready Nilus will cast Grace, so his movement will not provoke AoO's as a swift action. Then he will move as far as he can into the room.

Dejik |

Dejik and Samra line up at the back wall, ready to lay down some covering fire while the party moves up the stairs.
If anyone is visible on the stairs, they will go ahead and fire.

GM SpiderBeard |

Map is updated. The second floor is now visible. The stairs 'cross over' between both maps. Anyone standing on the stairs is on the second floor side.
Nilus lets out a battle cry, charging up the stairs! The tiefling at the top of the stairs put on watch shouts out a warning and the fight is on.
Dejik: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Nilus: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18

Tieflings: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Cultists: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
The cultists rapidly chant some spells from up top.

Ayesha, Sarkast, Ronan, and Nilus are up! The tieflings are flat-footed, the cultists are not.

Sarkast |

Sarkast takes advantage of the surprise attack and attacks the first tiefling with both blades.
Cold iron spear, flat-footed: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 Damage, sneak attack: 1d6 + 2 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + 2 + (3, 1) = 7
MW Dagger, flat-footed: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 Damage, sneak attack: 1d4 + 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (3) + 1 + (1, 1) = 6
*facepalm*
If it is possible to 5' step to be to the left of the square tiefling, please move me. It's hard to tell based on the stairs.

Nilus Romani |

From the map....it looks like we are bottle necked at the top of the stairs...IE no one can attack besides Nilus.
Nilus attacks the tiefling in front of him with his Cold Iron Longsword, dropping Radiance as he draws the sword. CI Longsword: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27CI Longsword?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10 Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Looks like Grace was a wasted spell....we are completely blocked in.

Dejik |

SpiderBeard, was the tiefling at the top of the stairs visible from the bottom of the stairs before the party started up? Dejik and Samra took up positions at the bottom of the stairs, planning to shoot anyone visible on the stairs. (Not sure how clear that was from my post yesterday...)

GM SpiderBeard |

I positioned the group over-zealously and have moved everyone a step back to indicate that you all sort of jumped at the stairs at once. This means Nilus is a square back and can use Radiance. Consider it returned to his hand and that his attack hit.
Damage: 1d10 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
Nilus' cut takes down the front tiefling easily.
Sarkast Acrobatics: 1d20 + 12 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 12 + 10 = 41
Sarkast Acrobatics: 1d20 + 12 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 12 + 10 = 40
Sarkast beautifully leaps through the crowd and winds up across from the tieflings.
Sarkast has been positioned where I imagine he wants to end up but can still move himself. Dejik, the tiefling was prepared for you, so you don't get a surprise attack.
Ronan and Ayesha are up!

Sarkast |

Starting from behind Nilus on the stairs, I count 25' to get to where you put Sarkast; I'd like to go 5' more so that I have a flank on Square Tiefling with Nilus. There's probably one or two more Acrobatics checks involved in that, which I'll post below. The attack I'm going to assume you want me to keep the roll from before, so it misses, but now I'm in position.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 12 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 12 + 10 = 24
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 12 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 12 + 10 = 40

GM SpiderBeard |

Sarkast runs along the walls before doing a neat flip and ending up behind the guards.
Still on Ayesha and Ronna. I see that Ayesha has moved on the map...

GM SpiderBeard |

Ayesha charges up the stairs, three doubles of her mirroring her every move. However, she trips as she tries to head up and fails to get a swing out entirely.
The tieflings spring into action and start attacking wildly. One of them manages to open up a nasty wound on Sarkast.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20 Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Sarkast takes 8 damage. Dejik, Jinxx, and Irabeth are all up!

Dejik |

Sarkast heals for 5 as his wound transfers to Dejik.
Dejik readies an action to fire if anyone comes into view or move up the stairs if they become clear.
She tells the mongrelmen to switch to their swords and be ready to help out.

Ayesha Jalal |

attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Three versions of Ayesha swing a black scimitar, and three blades flashed out. They dove at the nearest enemy, hoping to completely distract him from his defense.
Attacking triangle, swift action to add +1 to the blade from Arcane Pool

GM SpiderBeard |

Ayesha's scimitar manages to connect solidly, and the tiefling goes down screaming. He groans miserably from the ground.
The tiefling is now disabled. Is Jinxx taking an action?
