"...Where are the heroes? Where are the brave folk that will venture out to Kassen’s tomb and retrieve the flame to keep this community safe for another winter?”
This is a recruitment thread for the module Crypt of the Everflame which I am hoping to run. I'm specifically looking for good-aligned heroes wanting to forage out into the wilderness and into the ancient crypt to bring back a piece of the Everflame, so that they may have their names passed down in history like the great Ekat Kassen himself!
I'm looking for three additional characters that have intricate backstories that will connect them to the small town of Kassen, in the region of Nirmathas, and why they have taken refuge there if they are not originally from that region. The characters must have been there for several months prior to the start of the module so that the decision for them to take on this mantle is justified.
The reason I am looking for only three more is because the first spot is pre-filled until further notice.
So a small confession: This is my first PbP. I have much experience as a DM within PAthfinder itself and have one game ongoing as of now, multiple others in the past, however I wish this does not deter any person from wanting to join whether they are new like myself or a veteran!
If there are any other questions or concerns, please let me know! I'm hoping to get this ball rolling within a week, the sooner the better. The latest I'l accept applications would be 11:59 PM CT, July 22nd, 2015. I'll make the decision soon after, as well as the gameplay thread so we can get the first posts going!
Good luck to everyone!

Oooooooh, Everflame that finally allows non-core races! At last! Gonna have to cook up something good for this one...
:D !
In my live Sunday game, I have a player who wanted to be a Drow. I worked with him on a very compelling backstory and let him be it. I'm sure I won't have to do as much hand-holding as I did with him, if any, but I am intrigued by your interest as well as your potential character!
Dotting! I too have no PbP experience, but I would love to participate. I will start thinking up character ideas. A halfling bard would be fun :) I'll get to work and will have an official application in by the due date.
That actually sounds nice! I can't wait to see it! It's a little daunting to be amongst so many awesome PbP'ers and just trekking out into the world. We'll do this together!
Also, a little bit of good information about me: The job I work at is slow, and thus I can check in a lot during the weekdays. So if there are multiple posts in one day at some point, that'll be a good burst of play!

Welp, the good news is, I doubt you'll have to deal with any concepts weirder than this one!
Behold! Gnawl Rapwood, prospective leader of the Rapwood tribe, hopefully head of all kobolds in Nirmathas, and Seperatist Cleric of Apsu!
Short version: he's a follower of Apsu trying to unite his tribe with the surrounding tribes and become an officially recognized part of Nirmathas (kobolds need a renowned haven as well). He's brokered a deal with the mayor of Kassen to take part in the quest to Kassen's tomb as an act of goodwill and allegiance between his kin and the "softskins". Doing so will also secure his respect among his tribe and the surrounding tribes (they don't have to know it's not life-threatening).
I still have to flesh out his personality, but if he's willing to work with humans to gain profit for his tribe, it should be fairly obviously that he's mostly easy to get along with...

My, my... I have looked him over and he's quite a treat! I'll admit you had me worried at first of what you were going to brew. I like him and as per the Character Creation guidelines, I will subject him for approval and add him to the list!
I'd like to submit a Half-Orc Warlord for consideration. Been really wanting to try any of the Path of War classes. I think a Half-Orc, raised by a widowed Human and retired Captain, and the spirited-away son of an Orc Chieftain, would be fun to play.
The crunch looks nice and I haven't encountered a Path of War class yet, so bring it on! I'll have to look at the myth-weavers sheet when I get home because inconveniently, that is the only website my job doesn't allow! :(
Current List
Gnawl Rapwood - Kobold Cleric of Apsu
Rommel 'Baur' Serain - Half-Orc Warlord

So a small confession: This is my...
There is one more thing I forgot to mention!
The one thing I do absolutely restrict is 3rd Party Material, except for specific circumstances that come by in rare occurrences. If there is material that you are intrigued about, chances are the answer would be "No", but if you feel like I may say "Yes", and it would not be game breaking, swing it my way, and we'll chat about it.

Davrich Cloudcall |

Hey, it's Milkmonster following up from earlier today. Here is the crunch for Davrich (my Halfling Bard) so far:
http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheet.html#id=277534
(I'm throwing this out here just so I can be put on the consideration list, or at the very least, to let you know that I am working on him. This is still very much a work in process and is yet to be finalized)
Davrich will be a well-rounded 4th/final party member. He will buff allies, provide support casting, and be a potent combatant... all while providing good out of combat utility for the group.
I don't want to rush the backstory, so that is where I will spend most of the rest of my character building time. Other than that, I will continue to tinker with my character sheet a bit (spells/equipment mostly). Please let me know if you have any questions/concerns!

GM Soul |

According to Warlord, you obtain Tactical Presence (Indomitable) at 2nd Level and Warleader at 3rd, however, everyone is starting at 1st.
I then see under powers that you have 5 Maneuvers listed; however further down you have Maneuvers Known: 6 and Readied at 4.
This is further complicated by the "Condition and Effects" and "Statistic Block" tabs where you have 3 stances and even more Maneuvers.
I just want to make sure that I'm reading all of this right and don't want to jump the gun if you're just testing the future levels of the character. Please let me know if I've jumped the cliff with assumptions, if so, I apologize ahead of time! :)

Rommel 'Baur' Serain |

** spoiler omitted **
Slight jumping of the gun, but not unreasonable. I had to de-level this guy from 6th back down to 1st. So, I missed a couple changes, it seems. I have those maneuvers and stances listed there so I don't have to keep checking back to the PFSRD to see what does what.

JDPhipps |

Are you planning to run only this module, or is it possible this could become something of a module-based PbP campaign? I'll submit either way, but I'd really like it to become something longer lasting, if I were to be accepted.
Do you allow any 3.5 material in your games? There's a singular feat I'd be interested in taking, as I'd be interested in playing a Paladin. If not, that's fine, figured I'd ask.

@____@ I re-read what I've said and dear Nethys, you're right. I did jump the gun! As I said I do apologize; its rather intriguing seeing the thought process of de-leveling and the future of what you may have for the character nonetheless! Just wanted to clarify that! I'll make sure to be more observant (and patient) next time!

For now, I figured it would only be for the module, however to my knowledge, this one module is the first of a three part series. IF things go well, I figure the group could do the other two.
As for the 3.5 material -- it falls under the category (in my opinion) of 3rd party. Send me a PM of what you're looking to have as I treat these on an extreme case-by-case basis. I prefer PM so that there isn't any backlash of, "But you allowed this, so why not this" kind of thing. I look forward to what your interested feat is!

Eh, no big deal. And don't beat yourself up over it too much. If the group you're forming is made of decent people, they'll offer gentle reminders of events and actions, and won't just ragesplode and eat their keyboards.
As for the future of this guy, I have a few potential ideas. All quite interesting... *finger twiddle*

Good morning/afternoon/evening!
First and foremost, I wanted to update the list of applicants so far (please pardon the layout):
First Player (Guaranteed Spot)
Female Changeling Witch (Medium)
Applicant List
Rommel 'Baur' Serain- Male Half-Orc Warlord
Davrich Cloudcall- Male Halfling Bard
Gnawl Rapwood- Male Kobold Cleric (Seperatist) of Apsu
This is turning out to be a strong list of candidates so far! I'm excited to see more!
Secondly: I seem to have forgotten some information that could assist with anyone making characters so that they may connect to the town, specific to this module: Mentors. I have updated the Campaign Info with the People of Kassen as well as general information about Kassen. Feel free to browse at your leisure!

Fallen_Mage |

Dotting for interest.
Now the question is, what character to make? Hmmm, I'll need to do a bit of research first, but I think I can get something up tonight. Given the applicants, I think I'll make a skill monkey.
On that note, are you planning on using an Alternate Skill system given in Pathfinder Unchained or just using the standard system? It makes no difference to me, I'm just curious.

Very good question!
I am allowing the Background Skills portion of Pathfinder Unchained within this game. Everyone will have 2 skill ranks to put into the background skills only. If a list of those skills are needed, I could provide them without an issue.
Also Fallen_Mage, if you so happen to make a rogue, they are the only class I'm allowing for skill unlocks. I like to make the classes as diverse as possible without others having access to the same stuff. :)

GM Soul |

So that means an Unchained Rogue is on the table?
Why, of course it is. In fact, its one of my favorite classes. :)
Any class allowed, with the exception of Summoner, and the Occult Classes
I removed Summoner because this is my first PbP and wouldn't want to handle quite so much at once, and the Occult Books mainly because they haven't been fully released yet.

Fallen_Mage |

I can understand removing the Summoner. That's a class that kind of needs a little finesse. Now don't misunderstand me, I love the Summoner, matter of fact I have one in another game, and the GM and I are having all sorts of fun coming up with rich backgrounds for the class in general. But I digress.
How do you feel about a CN Tiefling? And if that's workable, wood you allow it to be Demon-Spawned as per Blood of Fiends?

Hmm... My first and foremost concern is that CN not be used for "Chaotic Stupid", but some players can control that and I'm assuming you can.
I want people to play the characters they wish and have fun with, however I want those same characters to have reason to become heroes (or anti-heroes, if they wish) and coordinate well with others.
I'm going to need some serious background story to be able to convince me how a Tiefling (which is usually enough to make people who are already concerned of outsiders even more on the edge) that is Demon-Spawned (!) will have become a part of the town of Kassen or even be remotely invited to take their traditional "Rite of Passage".
If you can impress me with a backstory that can do that, which would also make sense for your character, I'll put you on the list of choices for the party.
I am anxious for your answer and potential character. :)

Gnawl Rapwood |

First, forgot to say, thanks GM Soul. I absolutely adore kobolds, and I'm not sure if it's the challenge or the fact their weakness practically demands flavor to make up for their shortcomings. Either way, I love 'em to pieces. So whenever I get the chance to play them, I leap on it. I know some GMs don't like them because they feel a need to alter encounters to compensate for their shortcomings, but I say: don't. It forces you to get creative with what you have and typically leads to hilarious success. I've used spells like Ant Haul and Animate Rope to end encounters with frightening efficiency before (when a 3' tall kobold picks up a nearby empty wagon, enemies tend to run the opposite direction).
Anyways, enough rambling! My point is, thank you. I aim to please with my concepts.
Also, background skills... are those on the SRD or would you be able to send me a quick list?

I always look through candidate's profiles and saw the kobold collection you've amassed. It definitely explains your excitement when I allowed Advanced Races, and no worries; I don't adjust encounters much unless there are more people involved. I also try to play then as smart as I can (albet when they are smart).
All in all, you're welcome. As I said above, I love seeing players play the characters they love to play.
As for the Background skills, allow me to put a little info here (if it gets taken down, I'll find other means):
Adventuring skills are those skills that are most relevant for characters while they're actively adventuring. Adventuring skills are purchased with the standard skill ranks each character class receives, modified by a character's Intelligence (and sometimes by race or other factors). No adjustments need to be made to these skills when using the background skills system.
Most adventuring skills are related to training and practice, and each has a clear and specific application to the everyday challenges that face a professional adventurer. Adventuring skills get used for the majority of skill checks, so most skill ranks should be devoted to those skills.

Background Skills
In addition to their normal allotment of regular skill ranks, all characters gain 2 background skill ranks each time they gain a level in a PC class. The character's Intelligence modifier doesn't adjust this value. Background skill ranks can be used to gain ranks only in background skills, not adventuring skills. Characters can expend their regular skill ranks on background skills if they desire.
Even the most dedicated adventurers have other things they enjoy doing in their spare time. Some pursue business interests during their downtime between adventures, and though these can be modeled with the downtime rules, players who aren't interested in such a robust system still might wish to include elements of those interests on their character sheets.

Havarus |

It began in the nation of Cheliax, where is mother, a Khellid slave to some nameless minor noble house, was given to a secretly summoned and trapped Incubus as part of a payment in which it would divulge secrets demons use to combat devils. It was a short-lived arrangement, as a company of Hellknights discovered the demon and destroyed the house. Havarus' mother barely managed to escape, and after months of running and hiding, arrived in Kassan visibly pregnant. Taken in by Father Rantal Prasst's predecessor, she gave birth to a son, with barely visible horns atop his head. The Erastilan Priest didn't know what to do, but despite the boy's parentage, his mother pleaded for sanctuary in Kassan. It wasn't easy for the Cleric, but he managed to convince the Mayor to let them stay. There were conditions however. First, they had to stay at the temple where an eye could be kept on the boy. Second, the Cleric had to divine every year whether Havarus' heritage was beginning to corrupt him or not. So, every year on his birthday, the boy was scrutinized by divination spells, and while no evil was detected, very little good was ever found as well.
Growing up, Havarus managed to make friends with a young halfling by the name of Jimes Iggins. The two always were off on adventures in the nearby woods. Later Jimes got older, he got a job at Seven Silvers, where he developed and slight penchant for palming coins. Then there came a day when one of the Vargidan sprat-lings accidentally set fire to someone's residence. In that moment, Havarus showed his true colors when he rushed inside the burning building and helped those trapped inside, escape. Since then, he hasn't needed the divination's to determine whether he was evil or not, but he still insisted it be done, just for his own peace of mind that his father's blood wasn't making him evil.
When he got be of working age, the Tiefling got work at the Seven Silvers with his friend Jimes. He found he had excellent reflexes to work as a waiter, always being very polite and being very nimble on his feet when avoiding collisions. It also didn't take long for the two friends to develop a little game, where Jimes would try to 'aquire' items, and Havarus would try to return them to their owners, all without anyone noticing. It got easier for the Tiefling when he suddenly developed the ability to manipulate objects at a short distance.
When the call for those to join in the Rite of Passage this year, Havarus couldn't resist the call any longer. Stepping forward, the young man eagerly volunteered for the adventure.
What do you think?

How do you feel about the Chosen Child trait? The idea is that because you were supposedly chosen by your god from birth, those of the faith showered you with gifts and other such trinkets, giving you a starting gold of 900 GP. The idea for my character is a child who bears the Inheritor's Mark, a birthmark of Iomedae's holy symbol, upon his shoulder. As such, he's been trained from an early age to serve her, given equipment and training far beyond his means, and is expected to be a great servant of Iomedae when he comes of age.
Speaking of which, when is the earliest that a person could volunteer for such an expedition? Because that is how old Marcus is.
PS: Do you change any requirements for feats? I know a number of GMs remove prereqs for the Improved Maneuver feats, etc.

You sir, have won me over. I expect good role play moments if his powers and morality start to wane to the more.. "Darker" portion of himself ;)
Finish the character and I'll put him on the list!

Jeez... I think I'm starting to become easy to impress!! Normally I'm iffy about that feat, but your story is different from those I've seen, so I'll allow it!
The "Rites of Passage" in Kassen is intended for those people as in like a "Coming of Age" kind of thing. Essentially, it should be the first adventure the characters officially go on. Thus, some personality of "inexperience" is welcome!
I wouldn't want to delve into child endangerment, so I'd say the character must be the minimum adult age possible for a race, unless the child shows exquisite promise.
As far as for improved maneuver feats and the like... If your character has a BAB of +1 or more at any point of the game, they will automatically obtain Power Attack and Combat Expertise, for free.
You're welcome martials!! ;)

Ral'Zek Firebrand |

I have this sorcerer I would love to submit, however he uses wordcasting. If that is not ok, then I can convert him to normal casting.
That being said his background can be changed slightly to fit as well. Instead of him being an ex gang member he can just 've a troubled youth looking to prove he is more than just a arsonist to his community.

GM Soul |

Oh man, I don't need Power Attack either? Happy day! Means that won't be one of my first level feats either. Book says that you require +1d6 years of additional training to become a Paladin, so I'll go with what the die rolls.
And thanks on Chosen Child. It just seemed to fit.
The way I see it: Someone that can swing a stick should have some amount of control of how hard he can hit, and how much accuracy he can give up for defense. Thus, although I can see the point in have a feat to "train" for this kind of thing, training with my father in real life with swordsmanship didn't teach me how to hit harder or be more dextrose with a blade in my hand, so I won't submit characters to the same thing, only a +1 BAB or greater.
Crunch is up.
Awesome looking! Just make sure you add the feat "Fiendish Heritage" (Which would ultimately take up your level 1 feat slot) since it seems to be a requirement to obtain those special demon-kind powers.

I'll have to re-read the rules for word-casting -- which is something I could do before the deadline -- so it shouldn't be a problem. As for the background, there is a rather intriguing fellow by the name of Colbin Vetnar that may interest you to input in your background if you'd like. Look at the Campaign info under People of Kassen for more info.
Otherwise, do as you wish :) I'm excited to see what you come up with!

Another first time poster with no pbp experience here, I'm definitely interested though and I'll see what I can come up with!
Thanks in advance, GM Soul!
Will do for sure. I haven't had a chance to download the players guide as of yet due to posting from my phone, but I can have a backstory up in the near future.
I look forward to both of your characters!

My crunch is done, for the most part; I have to figure out what this 17 year old moron has spent his money on, and do some cleaning up. Also, he needs a better name than the one I have for him.
Fluff just really needs to be solidified and written down, and then he'll be all set. I'll try to get him submitted tomorrow before I go to work.
