Eliza pokes over the balcony. “What in the gods names is going on over here? Why is more of my lodge destroyed? What’s this I hear about golems?”

Osprey just shakes his head and mutters under his breath “Impressive, always asking the questions after they could prevent any damage.”

Of course! I'm waiting at the entrance of the maze with him. Sure he has 7 negative levels but he is still a very valuable source of info and even more valuable as a bargaining chip.

But I have a bad feeling about you asking if I am "trying" to bring him along... If the dimensional anchor is preventing him from using the portal, I can dismiss it. We took away his annoying cloak after all...

Speaking of items, if no one is going to wear the snake amulet we found in Hestram's room, Ralph will put it on. I've got nothing in my neck slot at the moment.

Eliza calls out to Lavode "No, the center seems similary to the Kathari Fragment I got a couple months ago to study. That seems really odd, as that means that they've been planning this for months. Longer than I've known for certain."

Ralph: Dim Anchor isn't going to be a problem since that lasts minutes and it's been a little while since the fight. I will point out that he is fairly obviously dominated - it's a DC 15 Sense Motive check to ID that he is being dominated. I just want to make that clear because that will definitely change how some people act with you. Also I want to double check, but I believe that he has no magic items on him, so he's missing a bunch of stuff from his costume? Other people are wearing parts of his costume?

Going in the Maze post will be coming tonight unless anyone has any reason why they want to stick around longer.

We took away his weapons and magical items. I'm wearing his ring of protection, and his cloak is up for grabs if anyone wants to wear and use it. If his hood/mask is part of his cloak, I guess we've seen his face. If not, I won't unmask him yet. The intention is to trade him for the sword and the evidence, and then have us each go our own way.

If that fails, I still have some of Cale's blood that I collected from the shadow demon, so I can scry on him at any time and impose a -10 on his will save. That reminds me. While waiting for the others, I will also collect a sample of Red Raven's hair and blood, and prick him lightly to collect a drop or two of his blood.

Before we go, could I ask one of the servants to bring me a large hooded cloak? If Eliza is maintaining an entire retinue of servants, I would think she should be able to spare one. If not, could I get a really big tablecloth? I healed the servant who get trampled and they didn't get to see my shadow demon, so I think they might have a positive opinion of me and be willing to help me?

Sovereign Court

The servants can definitely spare a hood. Who is the hood for?

Looking at the time frame for the scenario so far, we’re looking at an hour for preparations for the Talespinning, 1 minute for combat, and then basically an hour for the investigation prior to the maze, so looking at about 2 hours since you arrived at Woodsedge.

The Maze of the Open Road looks like a normal hedge maze from the outside, but upon entering it becomes fairly obvious that there is something unusual going on. Those who know their geography and engineering immediately point out that their path within the first couple minutes should’ve taken them back outside the walls of the maze itself. In addition, those that are flying notice that despite the hedge maze looking like it opens up to the sky above, there seems to be an invisible ceiling at the height of the hedges, 20 feet up. The hedges look like they’ve been well kept, with not a single leaf or twig poking out of the walls. Occasionally, the solid green hedges are accented by a beautiful red flower.

Knowledge (geography) 15:
The flowers are called Narven’s Tears, a legendary Arthfell blossom thought to have gone extinct more than 200 years ago.

The trail back to where the Red Raven entered is easy to follow. The ground is battered from signs of heavy foot traffic making an obvious path throughout the maze. In places where that may not be clear enough, you have the Red Raven himself, and Ralph can command him to tell you exactly where he went. He answers in short, curt answers, saying the minimum that he needs to.

While spending a lot of time looking down other paths may not be advisable, you can take a quick look down paths and find some that dead end right away. Each of the dead ends terminates in a door, seemingly built directly into the hedges. The doors are all of different styles and materials, possibly betraying some information about what is on the other side. In addition, occasional passages contain statues. Each of these statues is of a human with a horrified look on their face. Some look brand new, as if they could have been sculpted yesterday, while some look many years old. Some bear heavy damage, which looks like it could be bite marks.

Knowledge (local) 15:
The statues are all of different people, and each is carved to look like a Galtan peasant.

After several minutes the path widens to reveal a long causeway roofed by crumbling marble arches. Far up ahead the stone pathway opens onto a large plaza containing a handful of ruined stone structures, ancient buildings that look like abandoned temples. An enormous marble colossus of a robed figure looms upon a pedestal at the center of the courtyard, looking down upon a field of lifelike statues arrayed in a chaotic pattern. All bear terrified looks and are posed in grotesque defensive postures, arms out to stave off some unseen danger.

Map is updated. Any white squares off the map are extradimensional hedges and don’t exist – they’re just a side effect of Roll20 requiring the map to be a rectangle. They block line of sight.

So you’ve traveled through this maze and come upon a weird group of statues. What do you do?

The Exchange

The hooded cloak is for Red Raven, of course. *evil grin* He's here to dispense information and guide us, but I'd like for him to not be immediately recognizable, so I will have him under the cloak with a hood drawn over his head to obscure his features. The idea is that unless someone gets a good look at him, he won't stand out immediately as the Red Raven.

And I can't fail those knowledge checks.

Ralph inspects the flowers under the cover of his invisibility.

"Extraordinary! The flowers are called Narven’s Tears, a legendary Arthfell blossom thought to have gone extinct more than 200 years ago! This place is not only ancient, but has managed to remain untouched by time for at least 2 centuries! We are in a remarkable place indeed!"

He will collect a blossom for further study later.

His wonder however turns to heightened wariness when he sees the statues.

"Petrified people, I'll wager. On such a scale, I'm guessing basilisk or medusa, possible a group. Or perhaps some strange variant of either, or some other creature altogether that shares their abilities."

No one objected to me taking that amulet, right? 'cos right now I'm invisible and flying and hanging on to that amulet for dear life!

knowledge (any) for Basilisk: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (11) + 23 = 34 Add another +7 if it's knowledge arcana

I'll ask the other questions later, but for now I want to know the range and DC of the usual petrification gaze attack of each. Second question is whether there are any known variants with greater ranges and higher DCs. Let me know how many questions I have left for each.

And that gods-damned 20ft invisible ceiling!

"Raven, what do you know about these people, and the creature or creatures that turned them to stone?"

Ralph, with those checks I'm just going to link you to Medusa and Basilisk. As for common variants, none that you are aware of. They could be advanced in any way, but none that are necessarily typical for their race. (Although I will point out that if there's a basilisk it probably doesn't have class levels.)

Does the Raven know anything about what's going on here?

"Medusas and basilisks can usually only petrify you if you are within 30ft of them. Be careful if you are frail of constitution. That is IF we're dealing with medusas or basilisks here."

Sovereign Court

When you ask the Red Raven, he'll comment "I don't know what's going on here, but I do know that these statues are too lifelike to be anything but petrified creatures. There was a big statue of a gigantic ape up ahead - we were ready for it to bring it's arms down and try to crush us, so we ran through as fast as we could through this area. Nothing happened though."

"Hmm...you did mention that Hestram had a predilection for apes. I wonder if there is a connection. If Hestram had use of these portals, it might mean that he also knew how to use these portals to get to Montrose's estate, the same place you're now using as a hideout. At least we can guess that if Hestram used these portals, whatever lurks in here was no more friendly to him than it is likely to be to us."

"Come to think of it, I never asked. Were you using Montrose's estate as a hideout before you inherited it, or did you only turn it into your hideout after acquiring it? If it was your base before, how did Hestram get to murder your friend without your forces being able to stop him before or after the fact?"

"Oh and once you catch sight of anything that might be a medusa or basilisk, close your eyes. I brought you along to bargain you for the evidence and the sword, not to kill you or get you petrified!"

What are we waiting on at the moment? Are we waiting on Lavode's action?

Sovereign Court

Sorry – we were waiting on me. I tried to do this during PAX East but ended up passing out each night shortly after getting to my hotel room.

Approaching the statue, you can see two ruined buildings off to the side. The one to the left is filled with statues of Mwangi warriors positioned in a circle, while the one to the right prominently displays a statue of some kind of naga. But no sooner does Koraq move up to the main statue than you all hear a voice whispering through your minds “Ssssso many visitors! Sssso many men with weaponsss and murder on their minds. For yearssss and yearsss no one would visit Condria’sss garden. Ssssso many years. Ssssso lonely. But now you come in numberssss! With your ssscarlet cloaksss and your ssswords of ssteel. They are not in control of their own actions, much like someone who was dominated.

And they win initiative, so here we go…

Warrior 1 double moves across the courtyard

Warrior 2 double moves around the statue, closing in with Koraq.

Warrior 3 moves up and holds his action.
Warrior 4 moves up and holds his action.

Warrior 5 moves up, which triggers Warrior 3’s readied action.

Knowledge about the naga (Knowledge: dungeoneering):

This is a guardian naga. They are LG nagas that generally guard important places. And somehow despite being LG find themselves fighting adventurers all the time. They are most famous for their ability to spit a nasty Con poison as a ranged attack or to deliver it as part of their bite.

Their REF and WILL are good, while their FORT isn't as good.

They usually cast spells, and in fact have casting like a sorcerer. They're most known for divine power and greater invisibility.

Skipping over special attacks since you got that as part of the initial check.

They do not have any special resistances or immunities.

Meanwhile, the two warriors looks like they’re about to run away, but then stop and move towards Koraq.
Warrior 1 moves up to Koraq, steps over the body of his fallen companion, and waits.
Warrior 4 moves up to Koraq, also steps over the body of his fallen companion, and waits and tries to trip him. When he does so, Warrior 1 tries to aid his trip.
Warrior 1 Aid Another: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (13) + 23 = 36 aid successful
Warrior 4 Trip: 1d20 + 23 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 23 + 2 = 31 Trip failed.

The naga squeezes out of the ruins, stares at the oncoming Pathfinders and says “Forgive me Kyalla, I wasn’t fast enough!” Fire burns in her eyes like the warriors. Then she casts a spell and shoots two rays of fire at Géatan. This is scorching ray.
Scorching Ray 1: 1d20 + 14 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 14 + 3 = 25 hit
Damage: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 2, 1) = 10
Scorching Ray 2: 1d20 + 14 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 14 + 3 = 24 hit
Damage: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 3, 4) = 17
Both rays hit him over the heads of the warriors that closed in with Koraq.

Interesting...

"I WAS exercising restraint, Geatan. If I wanted to, I could have destroyed tham all on the spot," Ralph scoffs.

I also forgot to add my spell specialisation bonus. It should have been 21d6... So yes, Ralph was really holding back.

"Koraq, try not to kill the naga. I may have something up my sleeve for her. About 15 seconds will do, and you can knock her out if that makes it easier."

Ralph will go invisible once more and then move closer. Short range spell next round.

Not sure why you would think that Ralph telling Koraq not to kill her means he only wants only Koraq not to kill her, especially when he also stated that he wanted the naga alive, but whatever.

Furthermore, if you're looking to Ralph for directions on morality, let's just say if Ralph found out, he would find you very amusing.

It's been 10 days since we heard from Lavode. Is he still around? If he's not, what are we going to do about part 2-4?

Ralph turned invisible and called out to his allies, coordinating future attacks.

Koraq easily drops the two men in front of him. It takes the first 2 punches to drop the two of them.

Géatan takes a full attack, and the first two arrows kill the naga. Unfortunately, the first arrow brought her to 1 hp, so the second arrow straight up killed her.

Meanwhile, from the ruins in the back, you hear a rather large [bigger[ROAR![/bigger] as a gigantic ape comes bashing out of the ruins, the fire in its eyes much like the other creatures you fought. Some of you may recognize this as Da’Tunga, straight from the Blakros Museum. You can see the ape get in a guarded stance as he hides behind the ruined walls.

Ralph scans the battlefield with satisfaction.

"I would have wanted the naga alive! No matter. A simple beast is our next opponent, and one that should not be too hard to battle. Koraq, I propose we withdraw slowly whilst Geatan showers it with arrows, and then when it closes in, then you pummel it into submission. We have the advantage of far superior ranged attacks and should capitalize on that."

"I will take care of new developments if any arise."

Ralph will delay and see if anything more concerning appears. Also because I need to conserve my spells in case something more dangerous appears. Capturing Raven took alot of my resources.

If need be, I can use First Aid Gloves to bring the naga back via breath of life; the only way that would be successful, though is if Geatan stopped shooting arrows AFTER the naga dropped. Geatan, up to you on this; would you have continued shooting a downed body or left it alone?

Alright, then I can save the naga so we got someone to talk to, although this means you guys gotta hold off ugly for a round.

"Suuure, tell me to save the naga and he gets to shoot it dead. Well I'ma gonna show you!", Koraq stubbornly moving towards the naga, yelling "CLEAR!", as he presses a gloved hand onto the naga's chest.

Looking at that, that will keep the naga unconscious, but now alive :)

I didn't think it was that big a plot point, but if you want to use your gloves, I'll supoprt it best I can. Ralph comes out of delay after Geatan shoots.

Silently drawing his wand of silent image, Ralph waits until Geatan shoots, then conjures an illusion of long 10ft high wall, just out of the reach of your normal huge creature.

"This should buy Koraq just a little time," he thinks.

It needs to interact with the wall to get a will save to disbelieve. This should at least buy Koraq 1 round. Not an offensive action, so I should still have invisibility.

Location on the map assumes that the wall to the right is a solid wall that cannot just be walked over. If the wall is just rubble, please move my wall 10ft down so that Koraq is hidden inside the illusory wall.

"eh, still got another shot even after that, and I can get another pair after the mission. The cost on these things is great for a martial who wants to be able to chip in for those 'oh crap' moments. And makes for a better story when we interrogate the naga later :)

Both of those actions work like you think they do. I have Da'Tunga's turn planned, but I need Géatan to post because what he does on his turn could drastically change what happens on Da'Tunga's turn.

Koraq plays medic on the naga, bringing it back to life but unconscious still.

Géatan gets ready for the giant ape to attack.

Ralph casts an illusion of a wall in order to buy the party some time.

Da’Tunga looks like he’s going to ready to charge the wall, and then stops right before he was to start. He turns his head wildly, like someone looking for a lost child. Near him, something is chanted, and then all of the sudden Da’Tunga appears on the other side of the wall!

Spellcraft DC 19:
That chanting was someone casting dimension door.

Once Da’Tunga gains his bearings, he takes the opportunity to beat up the closest creature next to him, Koraq! This triggers Géatan’s readied action, who shoots Da’Tunga in the face. The arrow doesn’t seem to be as effective as you might expect though.

Ralph can't fail that spellcraft. It was a dimension door, meaning whoever cast it is adjacent to the monkey right now (unless the caster has dimensional agility feat). A glitterdust spell will cover the monkey and all squares adjacent to him, meaning it should also catch the invisible dimension-door caster. But it will also get Koraq. The DC is 21. Koraq, I'm going to need your permission to cast this.

No it won't. Glitterdust is a 10 ft radius, and a 10 ft radius spell can't cover all the squares of a 3x3 block.
