There's a wall between him and the darkness. You may have to zoom in to see it (the walls and doors could be better marked on this map, I'll admit. It's my only problem with the flip mat). The wall blocks like of effect of the darkness, and deeper darkness doesn't go around corners.

As for pushing you to your limit, let me just say - Welcome to Eyes of the Ten! :)

Edit: Drinking a potion provokes, but Koraq can't take AoOs because he's grappling right now.

Edit 2: Man, should've had a CL 20 potion of gaseous form. :p Yeah, that dispels the gaseous form.

Previous post was updated. I'm not done with him yet. We're turning that raven into Korvosa Fried Chicken.

Oh right! The shadow demon!

Uwilling to let its prey escape, the shadow demon flies around to get a line of effect on the fleeing archer...and telekinetically pulls him back in.

If he fails a DC19 will save:
The archer is gripped by a telekinetic force and yanked screaming back into the darkness. He flies above the shadow demon and connects with the wall above and behind the demon(again in the darkness, I'll let you decide on the damage from the impact with the wall). He falls 5ft to the ground, unaware that he is now adjacent to the shadow demon once more.

Ralph Cauthorn wrote:

"An interesting charge if proven true, though I'd question who it was that convicted Hestram. By the way, I barely mentioned the oaf in my speech, so I wonder how you can think I was singing his praises. But if you were listening to my speech, you would know that I defeated a Runelord. Capturing the likes of you? Easy."

"And THAT was what didn't actually matter. No matter what you say or do, you will be captured. What your actions could have done was make me call off the demon sooner to spare your allies. As it is, you have just made their lives a little worse off. If you had come peacefully, I would have called off the demon. Now, if anyone them die whilst I am wasting time with you, their deaths are on your head, hero." Ralph sneers the last word, leaving no doubt that he is using in mockingly and sarcastically.

As the gaseous mist disappears and the Pink Chicken lands on the ground once more, Ralph glares at him contemptuously.

"Now then. Am I to keep wasting time with you whilst the shadow demon eats your followers, or are you going to come quietly?"

If I've dispelled the gaseous form, I think it's safe to say that Koraq will go for the grapple again.

Grapple: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (16) + 21 = 37

Sovereign Court

Ralph dispels the gaseous form on the Red Raven. He turns back from the red mist.

The shadow demon attempts to send one the archers flying through the air.
Will save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
The archer goes flying back and hits the wall, falling prone.
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3

Géatan tries to the door to the armory and finding it locked, rushes out to the courtyard to try to enter that way. When he rushes out to the courtyard, he sees that the door is ajar. Inside there is an elf standing on a table brandishing the Pale Maiden, while 4 more of the archers stand with their rapiers drawn, three (9, 10, 11, the three left-most on the map) of them holding the rapiers against the necks of three servants. It looks like it’s hard to focus on the elf. (50% concealment) and he’s on fire. Meanwhile there are two gnomes sitting atop of suits of full plate, one holding a candy-cane patterned rod and the other holding two black beads. Also he can see that there is a hole in the wall in the corner of the room, big enough for people to go in and out.
Move action to attempt to open the door, since it wasn’t obvious that it was locked. Another move gets you to where I put you on the map.

Lavode goes screaming around the Grand Lodge about shadow demons. So we’re looking at the chance that someone at the Grand Lodge recognizes what’s going on, can see invisibility, has remove fear handy and casts it on you? Let’s go with a 5% chance that happens. That doesn’t seem very likely.
High = Remove Fear: 1d100 ⇒ 8 Not this round.

Koraq regrapples the Red Raven with ease.

The Red Raven struggles against Koraq’s grasp, calling out ”No. My actions are irrelevant for stopping the deaths of my men and women. As you state, I have no power here but to stroke your ego. You’re the one who decided that human lives are worth less than your own sense of self-worth.” He spits in Ralph’s general direction as he tries to escape from Koraq’s grasp.
Escape Artist: 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (18) + 26 = 44 It’s good, but it ain’t 50.

Archers 1-6 are easily able to run away.
Archer 7 opens the door next to him (which is apparently not in the deeper darkness), but can’t move any further this round.
Archer 8 stands up, provoking from the shadow demon, then total defenses realizing that he’s right next to a shadow demon.

The elf turns to see Géatan. “Wellllllllllllllll, look who we have here. Look alllllllllllllllive people.” He then casts a spell and sticky strands appear all over the courtyard.
Blue area on the map is a web spell, anchored between the lodge and the outer courtyard wall. Géatan needs to make a DC 15 Reflex save.

Meanwhile, the gnome with the candy-cane patterned rod (Gnome 1) points it a Géatan and laughs with a shrill laugh.
Something: 1d100 ⇒ 26
A large sound much like a fart emanates from the rod and it releases a gas cloud in the doorway. The gas cloud stinks horribly and is dense enough to block vision. much like a stinking cloud. Géatan needs to make a DC 15 Fortitude save.

Everyone else seems to wait.

Ralph's voice gets low and dangerous.

"Are you delusional? Did I not say that once you surrendered I would call off the demon? YOU are the reason the demon is still attacking your men. In fact, thus far, there is only ONE person who has killed anyone. YOU. The fact is that YOU and YOUR men attacked us, AND ARE STILL ATTACKING US. So stop pretending you have ANY sort of moral high ground, because I am VERY tired of your delusional, nonesensical posturing."

"Because the fact is that my friend is absolutely right. Think about it. If I am as bloodthirsty as you say I am, then surely my ability to kill should far surpass my ability to capture, and yet thus far I have mainly employed my powers in subduing you. Taking people alive is more difficult than just killing them, and the truth is that right now, I have expended significant power in seeing you captured and NOT killing your men. Yet."

"So on the one hand, you have forced me to expend significant power in capturing you. Congratulations. But the bad news for you is that because I have used all those spells on you, and because your men are STILL attacking, when I move to subdue the rest of your forces, I have no choice but to use VERY lethal force."

"So then. Your choice, and final chance. If you do not call off the attack now, there will be no more subdual, no more capture. I have neither the patience nor spells needed for that left, and I will be perfectly justified in protecting my allies by meeting your side's lethal force with my own VERY lethal force. When I do, people on your side WILL die. REMEMBER that and THINK very carefully before you speak again, because your next words could mean the difference between whether or not your men die."

"ONE. Last. Chance. Surrender."

His reply is going to determine my next spell. I get the impression that this guy at least thinks he's some kind of hero, so I'm actually hoping he'll understand the situation he is in. If he doesn't, intensified empowered fireballs will start flying. Geatan, just stay alive a few more rounds.

Let's see what Red Raven says first. I still have several higher-level spells left in addition to being able to use my bonded item to cast any spell on my spell-list, and all 3 uses of my spell-study ability to cast any bard/cleric/druid spell up to 6th level. There are still options to be explored if Geatan can buy us time.

Edit:
Almost forgot the attack of opportunity

The shadow demon sees an opening and tries to take a bite out of the archer.

bite: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17 Not a good roll, but it is vs touch, prone and flat-footed so I might still hit?)
damage: 1d8 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + (5) = 11

Sovereign Court

Shadow demon AoO will hit and deal 11 damage.

The Red Raven looks straight at Ralph. “If you care about the lives of other creatures, then what you’re saying is just bluster because you have the situation well under hand without the need of additional force, so there’s no reason to kill anyone else. However, you appear to be someone who cares more about his own ego than about the lives of others. I bet you defeated that runelord more for the prestige it brought you than you actually cared about saving the lives of other people. What happens when you get power like that? What happens when you master every spell? What happens when you can rule countries with the snap of a finger?

Ralph shakes his head in dsibelief.

"You know what? Maybe someday the world will need to be saved from me. MAYBE that day will come. But RIGHT NOW? Right now the people in this lodge CERTAINLY need to be saved from YOU. Even as we speak, your men are attacking unarmed servants in this lodge. You have murdered one of our's and your attack has potentially already claimed two more AT LEAST. You talk about killing, yet the only person here ALREADY guilty of killing anyone is YOU. The extent of your blindness to your own DOUBLE-STANDARDS is STAGGERING. It is the height of HYPOCRISY and I will not waste further time on you. I perceive that you seem to think of yourself some sort of hero, but right now, it is I who is going to be saving people from YOU."

"Koraq, please hold him for a little longer. I will attempt to end this farce right now."

Koraq, I"m going to go for broke. I will cast enervation on him, then try to dominate him. If I succeed, I can call use him to get the attackers to surrender stand down. If I fail, you can prepare to CDG this idiot.

Ralph levels his finger at the Red Raven and utters an incantation. A black ray of energy shoots at him.

ranged touch: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 1 = 27
negative levels: 1d4 ⇒ 3

Ok, I think this is going to work very well! Geatan, stay alive and distract them for a couple more rounds! We're coming!

Sovereign Court

Reminder - you don't know that they're attacking unarmed servants. You've only heard the scream, the spellcasting of the web and the large fart noise that turned into a stinking cloud. The house is blocking your view of anything else, and the other stuff said wouldn't be heard through the walls of the armory. (If that was just bluster, then ignore this statement.)

That being said, nice enervation crit.

It was based on the scream.

"Change of plan, demon. See if you can make make these weak-willed ones flee, then come to the armory with me. There are others there for you to fight."

Geatan, I think we're waiting on your action. Roll to pin this pink chicken?

Sovereign Court

Ralph counter-monologues and crits with an enervation. The Red Raven takes 7 negative levels. To clarify, much like I’ve been marking monsters as bloodied when they get to half health or less, I would note if the Red Raven had half his levels or less. I am not marking that at this present time.

The shadow demon casts fear at the remaining non-fleeing archer, then flies in the direction of the armory.
Will save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 The archer is afraid of the darkness.

Géatan calls out to his comrades, then hides in the fog. When he calls out, some of the archers say “Yeah Cale, this seems totally unnecessary,” and “We have the sword, what else do we want?” I’ll say that you guys can hear it since Géatan is specifically calling it out loud enough that someone on the other side of the house can hear. That’s pretty damn loud, but doable.
Also, Géatan would still have to make a check to walk through the web as per its description, but his CMB is higher than the spell’s DC, so we’re good there.

Lavode runs around the Grand Lodge, screaming. High = Remove Fear: 1d100 ⇒ 49. Still nope.

Koraq pins the Red Raven to the ground easily.

Archer 7 makes it to the window and opens it.
Archer 8 runs screaming in the 1d8 ⇒ 6 SW direction, runs into a wall, runs in the 1d8 ⇒ 3 E direction, feels a door to his left and opens it.

Cale looks at the archers in his area with a quizzical look. “Why do we kill them? They’re enemies of the revollllllllllllllllllllllution. Obviously we kill them, dolts. Nowwwwwwwwwwwwww, for our archer friend.” He then fireballs the area of the stinking cloud. This sets some of the web on fire, as indicated by the red area on the map.

Through the shadow demon's telepathy (or in shouted abyssal), Ralph tells the shadow demon to go to the armory and aid Geatan.

Ralph himself looks down at the now silent Red Raven.

"And now to end the bloodshed your men are committing. I do suggest you cooperate." As he says that, he opens a palm towards the Red Raven's face and utters his incantation.

"Confused mind,
Diseased and ill,
I shall be thy focus now,
Submit to my will!"

DC24 will save. And his negative levels mean he is suffering a -7 to all his saves right now. This SHOULD work...

Meanwhile, the demon floats through the wall of the armory at the nearest corner, which happens to be conveniently unoccupied, though within the cloud, and plunging the room into darkness.

fort: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

Questions: does the demon make his save and does RR fail his save?

Edit: I just found the save for the cloud.
The demon scans the room and quickly relays the information to Ralph, who assesses the situation quickly.

"Good, we will enter the room through the hole. Try to take possession of the elf. He is likely a wizard responsible for conjured the web and cloud, and quite possibly the leader as well," Ralph mentally commands the demon. Shadow demons have 100ft telepathy!

At the instruction, the demon flies up to the elf and attempts to force itself into the elf's very soul.

DC19 Magic Jar. I'm really getting alot of mileage out of this thing!

I should also point out that since the demon entered through the fog, no one in the room should have seen it at all unless they have darkvision.

Indeed it does! My bad. Well, the shadow demon still does his thing, and I guess I'll need Koraq to hold RR for one more round then. But if my shadow demon succeeds in the magic-jar-possession, I think we can pretty much call this fight over anyway.

The elf-wizard actually worries me a little more than RR. Not 100% sure he will listen to RR. He might actually be the boss of the operation, which might mean that my crit-enervation could work against me since it means he will be a less effective warrior to use against the wizard. Assuming I maintained the grapple, the CMD to break free will be 20 plus my grapple CMB which would be 43 right now (forgot about the haste and heroes feast bonuses. If that is higher than the target's CMB + 20, he cannot escape even on a Nat 20 :)

So I have two choice. Better try to save the druid for now. I hope you are hearing that Ralph.

Gaétan walks in the darkness heading to the garden.

He will turn back and say to the rest of the goon. Partisan of the revolution! Have you not realised that this elf, Cale, that you follow is no partisan of the revolution? He seem more interessed in Chaos than the revolution. He I did not attack any of you and still have used deadly magic against me. He urges you more to kill those who want a better future for them and their family. Even if you have accomplish, your mission. Which is the sword in Cale's hand.

He is in fact, the perfect exemple of those tyrans you ancestors fought against. You are following his whims and desire even if you are not confortable with.

Those unarmed servant are not the traitors. He is!

Gaétan throttles to the dead worm place.

Ralph begins trying to dominate the Red Raven.

The shadow demon attempts to possess Cale, bringing the entire room into darkness.
Will Save: 1d20 + 8 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 8 + 3 = 24 Cale, however is strong of will and resists is.

Géatan double moves to save Osprey.

Lavode continues to run around the Grand Lodge.
High = See Invis/Remove Fear: 1d100 ⇒ 99 Hey! Look at that!
A couple of initiates run over to an older agent complaining about how the Grand Lodge is haunted. The older agent looks towards Lavode and says “Ah, no. He’s just invisible and scared. Powerful magicks to affect him no doubt.” After adjusting his glasses a bit, he tosses a remove fear towards Lavode. (Caster Level: 1d10 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15)

Koraq ties up the Red Raven.

The Red Raven struggles against his bonds, calling out “THE SPIRIT OF THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT DIE!” It is impossible for him to get out thanks to the negative levels.

Archer 7 runs off the map.
Archer 8 runs up to the window and opens it.

Cale says “Ah. I seeeeeeeeeee how it is. The revollllllllllllution willllllllll return.” He then casts a spell. The shadow demon can no longer see Cale.

Archers 9 through 12 release whoever they were holding as they try to make their way around the side of the wall. 12 and 11 will provoke from the Shadow Demon.

The gnomes spend all round getting down from the suits of armor. Would be a move action, but they can’t see, so I’m upgrading it to full-round.

A few questions:
1. Did the elf provoke when he cast his spell? The shadow demon was adjacent to him, but Cale would not have known that.
2. You said Cale was surrounded by fire. Fire produces heat. After Cale cast his spell, did the shadow demon still feel heat coming from that direction? Did he feel the heat source moving in any direction?
3. RR owes me a will save for dominate person
4. You can still be spotted if you are invisible, especially since the shadow demon knows exactly where to look (right in front of him where the elf cast the spell). Assuming the DC to see someone directly in front of you is 0, with the penalty to see an invisible creature, here is the shadow demon's perception check.

Perception: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (13) + 20 = 33
5. Is Cale still in the room and where?

Sovereign Court

Ah right, shadow demon can take an AoO vs. Cale. Remember that he has a 50% miss chance and is on fire (possibly harming the shadow demon) I'll answer the rest depending on what the possible need for a concentration check.

Red Raven's Will save: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (1) - 3 = -2

Always the invisible spellcasters getting their spells disrupted. But if I'm striking before the spell is complete, there should be no miss chance? I'll roll anyway. When the archers shot at me, high was hit and low was miss. Shadow demon has blind fight, so I get to roll twice. Here goes.

attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18 Vs flat-footed touch
damage: 1d8 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + (3) = 11
miss chance?: 1d100 ⇒ 68 Hit
blind-fight miss chance re-roll?: 1d100 ⇒ 99not necessary, but hit again

Also remember the shadow demon has SR17 and fire res 10

Sovereign Court

Our flat-footed touch vs. incorporeal creatures is actually pretty high, but unfortunately 17 is not enough. (EDIT: and the miss chance wasn't from the spell, it was from the displacement that was already on him)
We're on fire, so we don't take all that cold damage. We take a total of 9 from the hit.
Looking at the damage expression, it looks like it won't matter, since I can't do enough to break the shadow demon's fire resist since he's incorporeal.
Concentration check: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (7) + 18 = 25 vs. 10+9+5 = 24. Spell still goes off.

Shadow demon no longer sees Cale and no longer feels the heat. It does not detect Cale with that Perception check.

Unless he has the slippery mind ability or I make him do something fundamentally against his nature, he should be fine. I wouldn't wander too far from him, but I think there should be no more need to pin him. I'll make him follow us.

Psst. GM, if Geatan is right and that the elf casted teleport, I think you mis-calculated the concentration DC. The shadow demon did 11 damage, not 9, so the DC was 26. I think the elf failed by 1.

Ralph will let them flee, and will let the Red Raven see that he is letting them flee.

"Hide in the room upstairs. We don't want to frighten the yokels with your appearance," Ralph commands the demon as he goes invisible once more.

If no hostilities resume, Ralph will ask Koraq to take the captured Red Raven to the armory, where he will ask the servants to recount in detail what happened to them.
