Sandara gives a smile back to Ri'el, and a bit of a blush forms on her cheeks, but passes when she regains composure. "I am a cleric of Besmara, apparently she approves of you all. Her aid was strong when I called for it for you. My story is much the same as yours. I came to the Shackles after my father died, looking to do Besmara's will. I went to the Formidably Maid, and Scourge took a fancy to me. A rather hands on fancy. Of course you only have to look at the man to realize he's destined ta be alone, the ugly barnacle. So, I slapped him across his face." She grins a wicked little grin, [b]"You can imagine that didn't sit well with him. So, here I am."[b] She raises her arms to indicate their surroundings.

"Ha! And here I was hoping I'd be the first one amongst us to get to strike the blaggard!" Ri'el laughs, then quickly suppresses it to a chuckle to avoid waking those already asleep. "Though it's a shame you had to dirty your hand doing that. Next time, let me do it for you. Or find you a gauntlet before you do it yourself," he adds more quietly with a cheeky grin. His grin however fades as he considers the seriousness of Sandara's other revelation.

"I am sorry for your loss, though. Having myself lost two fathers before, I can honestly say I know how it feels. But I also think it is what makes you strong. When you've lost dear ones, you learn to hold more dearly to those you still have."

"Or those whom you later find," he quickly adds upon realising that her decision to take up a life on the high seas could well mean that she didn't have anyone left.

"In any event, it is also good to know that Besmara favours us. Under the circumstances, we're going to need it alot. All things considered, I'm glad I...uh...we... met you."

Listening to the group speak and make allies with Rosie and Sandara. Davina finally chimes after Ri'el gives his warning, "I figured as much already, I only wish my retainer where still around, the first time anyone touched me in such a dishonorable way would see their last. Never anger a tengu with a sharp wakazachi."

As Sandara tells her tale, it obviously stirs strong emotions in Davina who goes to Sandara and tries to give her a hug, "I understand the loss of family Sandara, I watched my mother die giving birth to my sister and had to flee with little Nisha before mother's body was even cold. That was quite sometime ago as you measure it, but for me, not so much."

She finally decides to trust everyone gathered enough with what what she can bring to the group, "I will do what I can to help you, something that might be of particular use is my ability to call down divine fire. It heals the righteous, but burns the wicked. I suspicion there are plenty of the latter on this ship. I can cast several spells as well, though I don't know very many."

She's quite happy to be part of this gang. "I have a good feeling about this lot."

[ooc]I don't want to miss out on all the lovely RP. So the bed time post comes after this one.

"That Eli doesn't seem to a bad chap at all. Perhaps the rumours about goblins are true as sailors tales. "We made a pretty good team. You charmed the quartermaster pretty good. It will be nice to get my armour and dagger back tomorrow. Then we'll see who tries to mess with us." she says sounding bolder than usual, still under the effects of the rum.

"Narhwal Nate, Slippery Syl, the Scourge and Plugg seem to be in the same gang. Looks like they're the bullies running things. Best be careful then and watch out for them. Might be more we haven't heard about. We got our own gang. We'll see who runs the show pretty soon. Best not to underestimate them though." she thinks to herself recalling the many years she's spent on the streets of Port Peril.

"Oh and I forgot to mention I have a bit of healing in me. I ain't no proper cleric like you, Sandara but I can get by." she says as she offers to heal up anyone that needs it.

Dwarfed by the human-sized hammock, Eli scratches his head with a claw. "Never been charming before or called 'cute'. I just hoped that our similarities might keep her from pitching my ass over the side." He sighs, "What a strange day."

He adds belatedly to the list, "Also, I noticed a couple junior officers who seem friendly with Plugg and Scourge... Gunner's Mate Kipper and Bosun's Mate 'Patch' Patchsalt."

Upon return to the bunk

Astein still walks gingerly from the fall he took that day, but seems in fairly good spirits. You notice when he returns, his parrot is with him as is another bird who immediately flies over to Ri'el.

"I can tell you all that the cook is a good sort, if a drunk. Might be a good one to sneak your rum ration to if you can manage it slyly. He doesn't have much good to say for the ship however, considers it poisonous."

Astein will take the healing if no one else needs it. Having received the healing, the Varisian stands up much straighter. "Ahh... I may just survive this after all. Besmara seems to want to keep me afloat a bit onger."

Upon hearing about Eli's in with the quartermaster.
"I would have my harrow deck returned. I think you can see its value as you have already encountered your Tyrant. With it, I can help guide our actions as Fortune wills it and maybe keep us all alive."

Astein, I already made a post about Ri'el looking for you and getting Thali back from you. You are now Ri'el's favourite person amongst the PCs. =) Oh and for reasons that will not be revealed yet, Thali did not fly, and will not until absolutely necessary. You'll find out why when she finally does. ;)

Also, Sandara got you your harrow deck back. =)

Ri'el smiles as he gently tosses the small pouch containing the deck of harrow cards to Astein. "I'd wanted to retrieve it for you as thanks for finding Thali, but turns out our beautiful swashbuckling priestess already beat me to it," he says as inclines his head towards the red-headed young lady seated beside him. "If we're counting Besmara's blessings, I'd say having Miss Quinn here with us ranks at the top."

Turning his mind to more severe matters, Ri'el grimly notes the information gathered by his new allies. "We'll need to be on our guard against them. Scourge, Plugg, Nate, Syl, Kipper and Patch. If the cook thinks this ship is dangerous, he's sober enough for me. Unfortunately, we can't keep Plugg from separating us when we're given our daily tasks, but we should stick together when we can so as to watch each others' backs. And if we can find more allies amongst the crew, all the better."

"Speaking of tasks, though, we should probably get some sleep now. They abducted us to work us hard, so we'll need our strength if we want to perform adequately and stay out of trouble."

Before Ri'el goes to sleep for the night (choosing a hammock close to Sandara's if he can), he will cast goodberry on some of his holly berries. The spell lasts for 24 hours, so they should last till the next night.

goodberries: 2d4 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8

He'll also ask Thali to keep watch through the night. In exchange, she'll be sleeping in the familiar satchel throughout the day. Spell selection for next day will be the same.

Edit: Nice!

The Bell tolls to summon the crew to the deck and you all get ready to head above deck, when Aretta, Fipps, Jaundiced Jape, Slippery Sy, Maheem, and Narwhal Nate bar your way. Nate steps in front of the group, and pushes Garavaen in the chest, "In a hurry? Seems you sluggards need ta be whipped inta shape." It's clear from their demeanor they have no intention of letting you pass. Several of the other sailors linger around the stairs, clearly waiting to see the fight.

Waiting to see how people are positioned when my turn comes along before posting my action. It'll basically be color spray to get as many of them as possible, but depending on position, I may or may not need to cast defensively, and the positions will also determine how many I get in the AoE. Eli blinks at the dazzling display of lights and the suddenly dropping enemies. Magic like this is clearly something new to him. He rolls Maheem over onto his back, giving him an excuse to think for a moment and weigh the matter, deciding what would make them more friends than enemies and weaken the ship's leadership. "Is there a way to wake some of them up? I don't want to see a man lashed because he wanted a little punch-up... especially if he was following the orders of a fat-beaked parrot." His red eyes fall heavily on the stunned dwarf. "He led them into this so he should take the punishment." He looks at all the crew remaining below-decks, his allies and the others. "Beaky STAYS where he lays." The 'or else' in his tone is obvious. The goblin slaps Raheem lightly, trying to rouse him. When that fails, he begins dragging the man slowly towards the stairs. He looks to the crew that are merely standing around, "Well? Lend a hand, will ya? He musta been overcome by the stink of the piss-pot. Nate left a kraken in there this morning."

Eli is more than a little torn on navigating these treacherous waters. His first inclination was to make an example of Nate. He considered giving the trouble-maker a hard stamp kick to head, breaking his nose, and laying the dwarf up for days. He'd also considered getting everyone but Plugg's known cronies out on deck... but that would reveal what they knew.

Round Recap:

Garavaen nimbly dodges his way around the surprised pirates, who turn instead on his compatriots. Astein calls down the ire of Besmara upon Nate who noticably skips a breath, especially after Astein lets out an otherworldly sounding cackle.

The sailor that you know is named Maheem throws a punch that lands solidly on Eli's shoulder, but much to his surprise, Eli rolls with the punch some and lands an unerring strike to the man's hip, causing the leg to buckle and Maheem to catch his balance. Maheem noticeably favoring the leg.

Garavaen gives an exasperated sigh at the pirates and circles back, clipping Nate on the in the back of the neck. Nate gives a worried look, evidently rethinking things now that Besmara's ire is upon him.

Arletta moves forward to take a swing at Jack, but her blow goes wide.

perception dc 15 or sense motive dc 10:
Arletta seems reluctant to attack the group, and has obviously been coerced in some manner.

Arenya bolsters the group by singing a sea-shanty, as both Ri'el and Davina blast the thugs from either side with a spell that causes a spray of multi-colored light to wash over Jape and his men who all crash to the ground, unmoving.

From the look in her eyes, it looked like she at least did not have her heart in this fight. I don't think I can lift her on my own though. I'll help carry her at least. Stop slapping them, Arenya. The spell would have stunned them, not put them to sleep. No amount of slapping will rouse them before the spell's effects wear off."

With that, he begins to drag Arletta towards the stairs, though he is careful not to grab her in any way that might give Sandara the wrong idea. In fact, if Sandara's close by, Ri'el will ask for her help in carrying/dragging Arletta.

Garavaen agrees, "We bring her for sure. The only question is whether we bring Nate's cronies, too. I'm thinking we do... But make it clear they only get one free pass - and they just used it. Nate, on the other hand, needs to learn the consequences of his actions. "

Arenya looks sheepishly at Ri'el. "Well how was I supposed to know that. It's not my magic now is it? Though it's not like they don't deserve atleast a bit of a slap." Trying to justify her actions as she struggles to support Slippery Syl.

"Never a dull moment aboard a pirate ship, eh!" she adds playfully.

Nodding, Astein says "Good to save her a flogging then, though I wonder if Plugh or someone set them up to this. Well done everyone. Lets get to the deck before we get flogged ourselves."

With that Astein hurries up the stairs.

Sandara moves to give Ri'el a hand, and Arenya manages to muscle Syl up the stairs. You all are able to make it to muster before the bell. Arletta and Syl come to just a bit before Scourge starts to give out the duties for the day. As he does, he continues to give a look to the stairs with a stormy look on his face. The others arrive late, and Plugg issues them 3 lashes each for being late.

Mainsail Duty - Diligent

Eli gamely mans the sails and makes no mistakes while working his shift. But, by the end of the day, the little goblin's bruised shoulder leaves him wrung out. (Fatigued) As usual, Eli keeps an eye on the goings-on of the crew... particularly Plugg, Scourge, and their cronies who are now owed some lashings. He also keeps a wary eye on the Rahadoumi, trying to see if Maheem is the kind to hold a grudge and return later for payback or appreciates the fact that his one-time opponent saved him some stripes.

Ri'el keeps a straight face as he is assigned his task for the day, but as soon as Plugg turns his back, a broad grin appears on his face.

"Ship repairs? Easy!" he thinks to himself.

He breezes through the day's task, splicing rope and sewing sails with a practiced hand, before heading off to the quartermaster's again to have a chat again.

Effectively taking a 'shop' action, but instead of shopping I'll be trying to influence her/get info out of her. I'm thinking since I have a +6 on my next diplomacy roll with the QM, I might be able to get her really on side, and also get some crucial info.

Profession Sailor: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 9 - 2 = 16

"Hello again, Grok," he says cheerily. "I finished my work early today, so I thought I'd come to say hi. Oh and by the way, here's the rope and sails I patched up and spliced. Had to use some old cloth from the tattered sail that'd been thrown in the bilges 'cos if I'd used the new cloth, the patch would have shurnk quicker than the hole, and it'd rip right open again. Also, someone really needs to teach the crew that you need to start a back splice with a proper crown knot or the whole splice would come apart!"

As he hands the rope and sails over to the quartermaster, he adds casually, "you know, the new crew members are really taking to you. I was chatting with some of the others last night, and seems you're quite popular with all of us. Well, those that I talked to, anyway. I mean, it's not hard to like the woman who brings out the rum each evening, if you know what I mean. But you're also easy to talk to, and you know, you treat us fair and you're straight with us, and we appreciate that. Place like this? People who treat you on the level are rare. It's easy to trust a woman like you."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 9 + 6 = 31

He allows Grok a moment to bask in the praise as he hefts another folded sail over to her, genuinely panting with the effort. A couple of coils of rope later, he leans over a crate to catch his breath, and as he does so, says conspirationally. "Not too sure about Plugg and Scourge, though. Have you known them long? What are they like? What's their story?"

This is going to be exhausting work, but I'm glad I've got Jack with me. Less likely anyone will try and slip a blade in my back... Don't be a fool girl. One eye on your work the other one watches your back or did you forget the last time. Nearly cost you your life. The baker was a kind big fellow but even he missed that little scum bag. she chastises herself for being to trusting.

Arenya and Jack get to work the ropes. The damned things are heavy as all hell and she stretches her little sailing knowledge to its limits but manages to get the job without tiring herself out too much. Chatting with Jack as they work she says. "Not much to tell really. I can't really remember much of the beginning, just the last 60 years. Been at the shackles far as I can remember as a little girl. Scrounged around for food till I learned I could sing and that kept me fed most times. I got quick fingers as well." she admits shamelessly. "Took what I had to to survive. I always dreamed of being on a ship like this and one day having my own. But I had no way of learning, at least no offers that I was willing to accept... What about you inquisitive Jack. What's your story?

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

After they finish their work Arenya heads over to the shop to see if she can convince the Quarter master to "lend" her things back and see if there is anything else of use she might be able to get a hold of. "Hey there Grok. How's the most terrifying Quartermaster that ever sailed these undrinkable waters doing, this fine day? I was hoping to get me my things back that I had we were first to elegantly introduced to this fine ship. It was a fine piece of studded leather armour and a dagger.... Say there's not way I could get at some extra supplies not is there?"

Astein genuinely enjoys the bull session, and tries his best to make a good impression on the cook. He is interested in details about the history of the ship and crew, particularly the officers.

When he is done in the kitchens, he tries to learn more about the ship.

Explore main deck: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Jack and Garavaen:
Both of you wind up at the officer's quarters which are locked

Ri'el and Anevya:
Grok listens to your flattery for a bit, and smiles, and looks at Anevya when she asks about her gear, "All the gear belongs to Harrigan now. Bring the little green skin around after rum, and we can do trade then.

Grok is still helpful

Eli:
You do your work throughout the day, and keep a weather eye on Maheem. Despite being saved from the whip, you still catch him throwing a glare your way every once in a while. Apparently he didn't like getting beat up by someone half his size.

Astein:
The maindeck consistes mostly of the working deck, with doors aft leading to the Captain's quarters and doors fore leading to the officer's quarters, shared by, Mr. Plugg, Master Scourge, Riaris Krine, Peppery Longfarthing, and Habbly Quarne

When Davina is done with the day, she is met on deck by an irate Mr. Plugg. "Swab Davina! I just went down to the bilge and it's a mess o' filth and water. That's the worst job of bilge work I've seen. I've a mind ta give you a rope bash for my trouble, but I don't want ta spoil yer looks just yet."

He grabs her shirt and pulls her in close, whispering in her ear.

Davina:
"You'd do well to start making real nice with me, lass, it could make your life here a whole lot easier."

Astein, because of the bull session you still have one extra ship action for the day. Everyone roll for your rum ration save fort dc 5, and let me know what you're going to do for night activities.

Struggling lightly at Plugg's manhandling of her, she quickly ceases and listens to what he tells her.

Plugg:
She thinks to herself a moment, I don't want this, but I can't risk being killed by these people, I'll never save Nisha then. As sickening as it is, I might do well to give him what he wants and get revenge another day. Davina looks at him seriously, "And what exactly making nice mean sir?"

Rum save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Davina:
"The captain has his girl-toy, I think the first mate should have one too, don't you." The look that he gives you after saying that, makes it very clear that being his girl-toy would be anything but pleasant.
