DM Jelani |
To be honest, I can't play in this anymore. My life has gotten exponentially more busy post RPG Superstar, and my wife will be giving birth any day now. So, thanks for the ongoing offer, but I need to withdraw. Hopefully I can find another group running this a few months from now when I'll *crosses fingers* not be so busy. Have fun y'all.

Good luck with the new baby! That's still a few years away for me.
So, if I remember correctly, we've got me as melee/arcane and Phai Kareen as ranged/divine. We're a little light on skills, though my familiar should help some.
Might be nice to have something like a melee/buffer of some kind for flanking and keeping Phai out of melee, plus buffs are always nice. Should be interesting figuring out the 3 player dynamic now that we're not ultra-fragile level 1 PCs.
MordredofFairy |
Ah, yeah...I might mention that too, then...baby coming end of february, here ;)
But i was careful to stay absent from recruitments, not get into more than I'm confident I can handle long-term despite the changes certain to come to my life ^_^
So grats to Jelani.
@What to get, I second the request for someone going skilled. We covered Arcane and Divine, so a Melee/Skilled would probably be our best match-up to cover all we need.
Either something really focused like Bloodrager/Ninja or something really supportative like Bard/Investigator would be my preferences.
MordredofFairy |
Might I inquire/request the summary you mentioned about what happened in the village?
It would be interesting to know, and if it's verbose enough to set a "thematic background", it could help flesh out the characters more and act as a guideline on what to expect for whoever will be that character joining...
GM Rednal |
You may inquire. XD I think I'm keeping it in the "to be discovered in-game" category, though, since that's kind of how it got written up. I will be inserting it as early as possible, though - and as for what to expect, well, there's a reason the first adventure is called "To Worlds Unknown...".
That said, have any of the re-recruitment applicants caught your eyes?
Vincent Riker |
I'm not super familiar with the classes, but Ooran sounds kind of cool.
MordredofFairy |
Ah, ok, I took my time reviewing the applicants, feeling there was no hurry as long as we don't have the AP ^_^ I'll hurry that up, then.
I'm fine with Roll20...I also like the direct links to google docs as it seems "quicker" but I don't have a strong bias in either way.
Vincent Riker |
I tend to prefer google docs, since I frequently post (or at least check) from my phone during lunch at work or while I'm out and about. I'm guessing roll20 would be harder for that.
Also, just got the download as well and read the blurb for Haymot Steel-arm (then closed it of course, no spoilers). Seems like a pretty cool deity, and very appropriate for my paladin/sorcerer. Seeking a method to revive fallen auttaines is perfect for his eidos. Hopefully the campaign uses the deities throughout the adventure, rather than just write them up and then forget about them.
GM Rednal |
All right, everyone, please format your aliases like this character, and set up your quick-reference bars following the data in my alias. ^^ We have three players, the book is in my hand, and I'd like to get started as soon as we're ready!
Ooran Thaal |
Hello Phair, fellow Tretharri, I hadn't realized anyone else would be playing a Tretharri. I just looked at the races and this gladiator concept just fit so well.
I think I've got my profile and stat lines set up properly. Let me know if something is amiss.
Looking forward to adventuring with you all.
Phai Kareen |
I would asume we are.
On a side note, I'll try to be really open-minded with Ooran.
I'm personally not a big fan of psionics and most people I saw use Path-of-War were more interested in power combos than actual fluff+teamwork.
Why am I stating this? Just as a disclaimer, as I am neither highly familiar with the things you will be able to do, and may be a bit "on edge" regarding my inherent fears regarding your class choices.
I promise I'll see it as a clean slate and not be narrow-minded, but it may take me a while to "warm up" to the idea.
I thought it best to state it now, because I am only a person, after all, and I cannot promise it will not at all affect my interactions, and I would not want wrong ideas about those.
GM Rednal |
As long as nobody's trying for ridiculous combos, your builds shouldn't be a problem. ^^
(Basically, don't try to stack more than you normally could. As a general principle, any kind of scaling offense - the Cryptic's Disrupt Pattern, the Rogue's Sneak Attack, PoW maneuvers, etc. - should not stack with other kinds of scaling offense. ^^ That should help keep everything at a fair, reasonable level.)

Not a problem. I understand your concerns. I've had some of the same ones as a GM. I thought I could try playing some of them and see how it works. Given the information in the recuitement post, I aimed for a melee character who could double as a skill monkey and had a high survivability ( ei. high HP and defensive abilities). The Warder class also seemed to provide a way to protect teammates.
Vincent Riker |
I'm good to go.
As far as class goes, I've read a little bit about cryptic a couple years ago and no pretty much nothing about Path of War. Should be interesting to see it in action, and see if it's something I want to include in my games in the future.
And on a totally unrelated note, auttaine are my favorite race since grippli! Body customization is totally sweet, and having it be a primary aspect of the race is awesome.
GM Rednal |
Path of War is an updated version of 3.5's Tome of Battle - Book of Nine Swords. It's basically martials who act like casters - they have a certain number of special attacks known, those attacks are expended when used and need to be recovered before they're used again, they can only have so many ready at a time... that sort of thing. The design philosophy was for them to be good, but not overwhelming - I'd say most PoW classes are unambiguously more versatile both in and out of battle than a Core Fighter (Which... isn't that hard to do, really), but by the time higher levels roll around, they're weaker than, say, a God-style Wizard would be.
There's also an expanded book in the works, whose content I am mostly not allowing because it's a playtest.
I suppose I'll get things underway shortly. ^^
(Also, Ooran, you don't need your archetypes in your quick-reference bar. The basic classes are fine. XD And you might need that space for other stuff later.)
Axis the Ioun Wyrd |
Shimmering stones emerge from a pattern of tattoos and inscriptions on Vincent's body to slowly float above his shoulder. The stones swirl about and flash a deep emerald green, before descending and melding with Vincent's shoulder and augmented arm once more.
MordredofFairy |
Hum. any ideas? I feel quite useless right now, being based on equipment-dependent ranged combat and spells that need to be prepared daily(and as such are not available)...any damage I do, I'm likely to receive more in return(d6 vs d3) and lethal, from the AoO alone. Right now, I'd just try and stall for you guys if you have better tricks up your sleeves.
Now where's the monk when you need him...looking at you, Eliphas...
Ooran Thaal |
I have to admit I'm a little surprised that Tretharri don't have a bonus to Grapple. That could be a useful tactic right now.
MordredofFairy |
Well, we COULD grapple 2 creatures at the same time, having 4 free hands...but I agree, it seems a bit of an oversight.
Then again, possibly it's intentional, in terms of not having "more strenght" in 4 arms than others in a single set. Meaning you have an advantage in flexibility, but actually weaker individual arms that have a harder time overpowering an enemy, with the total sum being "about equal" for game balance purposes.
Vincent Riker |
For right now, you may want to just try using your healing abilities to keep everyone up. Let's see if I botch my first concentration check...
Edit: Nat 1 totally makes the concentration check right? Right??
MordredofFairy |
As mentioned, those healing abilities are limited.
If I channel energy, that heals THEM, too.
My spells are offline until we can rest and prepare.
My spontanous spells are useless for the situation.
So, the only thing online and useable is my healing hex, which I can use once per each of us. Will use it once either of you is hurt for 10 HP+(to maximize possible gain).
GM Rednal |
Natural 1's are not automatic failures for concentration, so there's that. Don't worry, this isn't as hard as it might look. XD
Also, I'm not going to run this encounter in the harshest possible way, since you didn't really have a chance to prepare. I may like challenging you, but I try to avoid crossing over into outright unfairness.
Vincent Riker |
It's all good. It's actually amusing that the dice seem to plot against us.
Vincent Riker |
You guys post while I'm asleep, and then busy day at work.
Phai Kareen |
I already mentioned it to Rednal. I'm on a Job interview...today, in another city, Kind of nervous, and only got a s*&$ty old laptop that acts up with me. I will try and be active again ASAP, but for now, do feel free to bot me in the interest of things moving along nicely.
btw: no other gear? Say, for canine builds, like a muzzle of house-trainedness or a collar of anti-flea-shell? only ours, right?
Ooran Thaal |
BTW, I'm going to get this out there now. My posting rate is going to suffer this coming week. The kids daycare will be closed for Thanksgiving here from Wednesday through the weekend. And we'll be having family in town until next Monday. I'll try to keep up as much as I can, but I can't guarantee anything.
Ooran Thaal |
Nope, I'll be back to regular posting by next Tuesday. And I hope to keep up at least one post per day in the meantime, but I figured I'd give warning that I may not be able to.
Phai Kareen |
Well, up to you guys...if you clear the way, I can 5-foot step and shoot at one of them.
Or we can make them move into the choke and all three melee the spot.
Both fine with me, but my actions will depend on you guys :)
Either way, I would 5-foot step diagonally up and left(moved on the tactical map so you can better strategize)
Phai Kareen |
Or there's another option.
There is plenty options. Always. True that, of course. I only stated the two most likely ones that I was able to see. Either way, I would move to this position, regardless of wether we charge, retreat, talk, surrender, begin to act out a play, or bluff them into thinking we are dog-people.
Ooran Thaal |
There are probably some AoOs involved, and I'm posting from my phone, so I can't move my avatar. But other than that, we're pretty good. :)
Phai Kareen |
*pokes Ooran* you there?
I saw you posting somewhere else 22 minutes ago...
no worries if you have no time yet after busy weekend, but wanted to ask...Rednal usually only updates gameplay if there's as many posts as players...I could fill in but I actually like the system because it keeps everybody active and involved, even if they don't feel they have something to contribute in a situation-
So, just posting in case you were not aware of that peculiarity and waiting for Rednal.
