Mogmurch drifts through the crowd, glorying in the adulation of his subjects. When he realizes that the moot has not been declared over, and that some of his subjects are plotting with his hated Licktoad companions to usurp his throne, he feels consumed with rage and immediately begins to plan the construction of a vast dungeon complex into which each of the usurpers can be thrown, and devising ever more demented alchemical "experiments" they might be subjected to.
He is startled from his reverie by the realization that his rivals have already set off on the next portion of the moot and he hurriedly moves to catch up with them, buckling on the boots and rushing out onto the one remaining plank and leaping across the gap to the first of the stirge posts.

They do not count as helpless and are capable of attacking anything in their square.
Move over gaps or jumping from plank to plank is an acrobatics check.
Reta rushes in and catches the tiny creature by surprise, nearly squashing in on her first blow. Yet, it hangs on...and looks displeased.
'Encouraging' Mogmurch, Chuffy makes his way down the plank, eyeing his first would be victim.
Not to be outdone this time, Poog rushes down the wobbly bridge with the grace of a gazelle. Leaping across the gap, he lands with the grace of a goblin...but manages to stay upright.
Mogmurch Jump: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 4 - 2 = 13
Realizing those blasted lickers are trying to steal his crown, Mogmurch rushes down the remaining bridge and leaps across the gap. As he lands, his large boots slam into the stirge bound there.
The creature stomped on by Big Reta spins and attacks the goblin in return. Latching onto her with its spiny legs, it plunges a probosces nose into her thigh.
With a buzzing flurry, another of the flying things latches onto Poog's arm and sucks from the marrow within.
However, seeing his companions fate, Mogmurch manages to anticipate the bite and spin away from the foul foe.

"Bad bad nasty bitey thing! You no burrow into Reta leg!!!" She screams at the top of her lungs, her voice filled not with anguish or fear, but pure and simple anger. Reta would sometimes let Spotol lick at her wounds to please her little pet frog, but this stirge was a different matter entirely. Only her pets may lap up her blood!
Reta draws her dogslicer, unconcerned about whether this is within the rules or not (she couldn't hardly kick at her own leg with one of the boots, could she?); she begins hacking away at the stirge that's attached itself to her.

Reta pulls her blade and slices the pesky bug in two. As the bound half hangs limp, the other plops into the sewage below. The crowd erupts in a see of cheers for the woman.
Mogmurch bats at the thing with his club, but concern of its close proximity causes him to hold back. The goblin attempts to play off the pitiful attempt, though it seems few of the crowd by it...certainly not Wise Mummy Sprattleharsh keeping score.
Disappointed Reta fell her own bug, Chuffy takes aim at the one on the far side he'd seen stomped earlier. Taking aim with his weapon, he pops off a shot. The projectile sails over the course and slams into the stirge battling Mogmurch. It falls limp on it's tether. Another see of cheers erupts in favor of the possible Chief Chuffy.
Assumed you were intending to shoot at a previously injured stirge so adjusted to the other one. If you'd have shot at the closer one (Poogs) just let me know
Realizing his companions have opted to use other methods, Poog begins to shake off his hand shoes. The stinging bite of the creature annoying, he lashes out with the half on, half off boots, but fails to connect as the insect slides around to the opposing side of his arm.
The stirge repositions and plunges his needle-like mouth deep into the poor Poog again, sucking from the cream filling within.
As Chuffy moves further along the plank, the tethered beast he passes lashes out. Latching on, it tries to taste from his gooey goodness...but the tether yanks it back out as he moves past.

Lobbing the bomb across the gap, Mogmurch watches it slam into one of the little beasties with an explosion of fire. Cheers ring out from the onlookers, and chants of Mogmurch's skills can be heard.
The flames spread out from the point of impact scorching the one near Reta. Though the flames spread north to the one of the opposing side, it somehow manages to avoid the worst of the flames.

Due to the nature of these planks, yes. Acrobatics to 5' step is appropriate
Mogmurch owns his superiority and commends his big headed minion as he gingerly moves down the plank. Raising his club high, he attempts to bash in the nuisance bugs brains and claim his chiefhood. Just as he brings down the stick, the board shifts beneath him and he swings wide.
Chuffy cries out in defense of the unfair practices going on at the far end of the field. Slashing desperately at the stirge nearby, a cry of "MOGGY BE BESTEST" with a follow up "NO BIG HEAD CHIEFY!" causes him to look up at an inopportune moment and miss the target by less than an inch.
The divine goblin realizing his untimely visit to the underworld approaching calls out to the others. Desperate for any aid, even if it means his chieftain ways would be delayed for a day or two, he swings desperately with his blade. His offbalance swings nearly stab himself in the foot, but come no where near the probing insect.
More fluid finds it's way out of Poog. The bloated insectoid looks up to the goblin and lets out a foul smelling *BRRRRRCH* as it detaches and lazily hovers nearby.
Sensing the blood in Mogmurch's veins, his closest foe races forward. Alas the wobbling plank snaps its cord back at just the right time and his probe fails to meet skin.
The smoking stirge turns to Reta and dives nose first deep into her skin, latching on to her neck.

"WOOOhoooOOO RETA E'EN SHAVES SELF FOR GOBBY!" cries out an onlooker as she nimbly hops to the next plank.
Holding his club aloft, Mogmurch twirls it about slowly, preparing to bash the nuisance into dust. Twirling the stick again and again, him seems to forget to swing it...but it looks good. One of the tribe remind him "Ya need ta kill buggies...or be last out of water!"
Annoyed at the persistent survival of the flying beast, Chuff lashes it and removes a few of it's legs. Yet, it continues to hover. The thing looks rather mangled, but still buzzing.
"Ooo Poog feed purposeful." mumbles one of the feathermunchers. "Poog wise gobby. Maybe wise as Mummy Sprattleharsh?"
The bloated stirge hovers lazily as Poog brings his blade to bear. It seems to fly towards the blade as it hurdles downward. A sickening *SPLOOCH* can be heard as the creature splits in two, showering Poog with his own blood, recently removed. "WEEEE HA HA HA! Poog bath in Poog Blood! HE HE HE"
The stirge Chuffy had been slowly slicing away, bit by bit, lunges at him. Connecting solidly, it collapses limp, sticking out of his hip. The creature on the opposing side of the platform darts forwards as well, but as Chuffy flinches from the first bite, he manages to step out of the seconds way.

Overwhelmed with concern that he may have just died, Chuffy takes a moment to ensure he still breathes. While the distracted McStabberson assesses himself, Poog jabs another Stirge in the face. Getting into the groove of things after his ritual, Poog knows he can win yet!

The buzzing suddenly stops what a strange *SlurCK ACK* as it sucks a clot through the probe and begins to gag. Pulling it's head out, its tiny legs reach for its straw-like face and it falls limp.
Now it's down
The love pat seems to have done more than it seems at "Moggies Pet" buzzes about his head, but coming nowhere near his creamy filling.

Big-Bad Reta |
I don't think I understand what just happened there with Reta's stirge. How did it die? And is it still attached? (The text seems to say that it's not, but the detail below says it is.)
GM RePete |
You took it down to 0 HP (which makes it disabled). It then performed a standard action putting it at -1, causing it to drop.
It is not attached anymore. I forgot to take that off the conditions part

Poog have power of the stabby-bug in blood, Poog stab with- "NOOOO!" The unwanted bolt going through the stirge he was just about to kill, breaks him from his trance. "That not what Poog want and Chuffy knows it!" Poog yells stamping his feet in anger at Chuffy and wobbling the plank precariously. Frustrated, Poog looks around for another target and spots an injured insect near Mogmurch. With an evil grin, Poog pulls a gnarly twig that looks to be held together with spit and baling wire, and points it towards Mogmurch, releasing a cacophonous burst of sound.
Using wand of sound burst Sonic damage and DC 12 Fortitude save or stunned for 1 round. It has a 10' radius and I'm hoping to get both E10 & D11 if it doesn't hurt Mogmurch, or just D11 otherwise.

Mogmurch sees Poog shooting at him and rages! Treachery, most foul! Et two, Poog, et two? When I am Caesar of all the Goblins, I will not forget this."
Knowing that he must put the foul stirge away before turning to deal with Poog, he swings even more furiously than before:

"When Reta chief, she happy to make Moggy Chief Seizer of tribe!!!" She imagines Mogmurch slinking around a tribal village to jump out and grab other goblins by surprise. To what end? Who knows; it looks fun!
After a quick survey of the remaining stirges, Reta decides to try for the last one by Chuffy. She crouches really low, and springs forward across the long gap. "INCOMING!!!!" she yells as she comes flying towards Chuffy! She then quickly spins and strikes at the stirge!

"AAAAAHAHAHAHA Chuffy know what Poog mean but do opposite! Chuffy smart like that!" he giggles, but his joy is soon short lived as an airborne pumpkin comes crashing onto his plank.
"NO RETA NO! THAT CHUFFY's STIRGE!" he shouts, spit flying from his mouth and a few boils bursting in his rage. Knowing he can't beat her at her own game, Chuffy tries the next best thing.
"Chuffy show you!" he says darkly as he tries to shake their shared plank and knock his archnemesis into the mud.
________
GM, what sort of check would it be to do this?
GM RePete |
The simplest thing would be to do a CMB check...I would allow a Disable Device Check to try and remove the plank, then both of you would need an Acrobatics check to land on the poles.
You could also try to break the plank with strength or damage. I'm not coming up with another option for an appropriate skill at the moment.
Lickwound, Chuffy |
Disable Device vs Plank: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25

Knowing she's going to win the title, she offers Chuffy an olive branch as she leaps to the next plank. As she lands, the wooden rail wobbles a bit and she can't quite get the angle she needs to slice the stirge. Mutters float across the field as the onlookers discuss her kindness. "Oooo Reta Big Head know gobbies have uses. She make titles to give loyal gobbies?!" a slight pause is interrupted by an avianlicker screaming "I BE CHIEFLY FOOD TESTER?!"
Mogmurch readies to dispatch the vile bug before him, but can't seem to clear the traitorous act of his minion from his mind. Though Poog hasn't done anything yet, he has a wand in hand. We all know this can only mean treachery! His club travels true, but way too slow to connect. The insect sees it coming and skitters away in time.
"Poog sacrifice make better den Moggy?" whispers one of the tribe, a bit too loud.
With a flick of his wrist, the stick in Poog's hand shoots a crackling bolt of lighting across the swamp. Slamming into the murky water, it explodes with a 'KRACK babaBOOOOOM'
The stirge tethered to Mogmurch's post drops, wide eyed, into the waters below. The remaining creature seems to struggle to stay flying, but continues to buzz about angrily.
Annoyed with Big Head, Chuffy grabs hold of the plank beneath him and yanks it back and forth. With minimal effort, he manages to tug the ends off the posts. As it plunges to the scum below, both he and Reta leap for the nearest posts.
Reta makes it look rather easy. Chuffy however...still holding onto the plank finds himself plummeting to the ground. At the last possible second, he remembers to drop the wood and snag the post with one hand. He barely manages to pull himself onto the pole.
The stirge sharing Retas post dive bombs her, impaling the goblins hand and sucking the fluids from within.

Big-Bad Reta |
Reta starts chastising Chuffy for trying to send her into the swamp."No Chuffy!!! You not get to be Chief Carpenter, that for sure!!!" Then the realization that her nemesis to Chiefdom is clinging to the bottom of the post and she starts to laugh, pointing with one hand as she holds her gut with the other, still gripping her dogslicer.
It's the pointing that does it, as she finally notices the stirge attached to the back of her hand... her original objective anyway. She brings both hands together in a single motion, drawing the blade across the stirge, hopefully ending it for once and all.

"Treachery? HA! Poog save Mogmurch from stabby-bug!" Poog says haughtily, "Unlike Moggy, Poog be a good leader and keep his minions alive until funnest possible moment for them to die. Now hold very still..." He pulls out a javelin from under his cloak and seemingly takes very careful aim at Mogmurch, his tongue hanging out in concentration. "POOG FOR CHIEF!!!" He bellows as he lobs his pointy stick across the bog.

On top of his pole, Chuffy throttles it while screaming in frustration. "RETA NOT BE CHIEF, CHUFFY SAY NONONONONONO!" Froth and spittle flying from his mouth as he does so. Trying to regain control of something in his life, he leaps from his perch, diving into the muck and mire below. "FAT HEAD NOT BEAT CHUFFY, CHUFFY LOSE BECAUSE CHUFFY FALL IN SWAMP!"

Keeping track of Chuffy's failings, Reta makes note that he should be building things. She then proceeds to leap from her post to the plank across from her.
Mogmurch watches with annoyance as Poog fells the final beast with a limp javelin toss. Just before it falls though, Chuffy chooses to take his own way out and leaps into the fetted waters below.
Trial 2 Over
The onlooking goblins cheer and snarl, each having their own ideas over who should be the winner. "SILENCE" screams Wise Mummy Sprattleharsh as she strides towards the stagnant pit. "All do good in stirge fight. But Reta do bestest. Reta win trial!"
A sea of cheers and boos ring out in response.
"You do last trial now." she announces. "You come with Sprattleharsh." Without checking to see if you heard her she starts walking away. The tribe falls in behind you, whispering (not very quietly) about who should be the next chieftain. It doesn't take long to realize you are walking back towards the birdcruncher cave.
As you approach, the smell of rotting meat and spoiled milk begins to overcome you; the stench getting stronger with each step. Rounding the last turn, you spy where the odor is coming from. A large bowl containing a kind of rotten meat slurry of dead birds, spoiled milk, mashed up grass, and muddy swamp water simmers before you.
Stopping, Sprattleharsh turns back to you and smiles. "Meat pie still cooks. Is no done yet. For last trial, you maybe chiefs is tied up and tossed inside. Yous can keep all yous stuffs. Yous gettin points for getting self out first....and maybe points for other things." With a wink, she motions for some of the other goblins to bind you.
The vat is 10ft around so you will all be counted as squeezing for this. -4 to attacks and -4 to AC
To get untied requires a str check or escape artist check as a standard. You can untie a friend as a standard without making having to roll anything.
Once untied, it's a move action to get out.
Every round after the first that you are in the pie, you need a fort save.
Any questions for me or Sprattleharsh before you are tossed in?
PFS Pregen #1 - ShieldBug |
Poog can't stop drooling as he approaches the giant pie, anticipating an eating contest that he couldn't possibly lose. He look looks a little more sceptical, however, when he hears what the challenge really involves, "What if Poog just cook pie now with BIG fireball!" He makes a wide gestures with his arms and wiggles his fingers to simulate flames. "Then we eat in celebration of Poog's chiefdom, yes?" He asks hopefully as goblins grab his wiggling arms and start to bind them.
No questions from me... unless there is a way to eat ourselves out. :)
Lickwound, Chuffy |
Crawling out of the muck, he shakes himself like a dog until most of it is on the others. Fuming, he stalks behind the rest of the group to the cave.
"Chuffy want to know how to get other points. Can Chuffy tie up slow goblins?" he asks, grumbling. Poog finally right, Chuffy want to eat instead. Stupid Chiefy games.
Mogmurch Z. |
Mogmurch is sulking from his ignominious failure against the stirges. The realization that his chieftainship might conceivably be shared with swollen-headed Reta fills him with the urge to vomit. And the absurd suggestion that the group should feast on bird pie in such awful circumstances has caused him to realize that the HerdScrunchers may not be worthy of his rule. He looks at the vat of stewing birds, recognizing that most of them were his worthy targets in the first trial, and savors the aroma. While it is not as delectable as the scent of his lab, it does remind him a bit of the many joyous hours he has spent with his own cauldron, and as he realizes that his minions are also going into the vat, it occurs to him that this could finally be an ideal chance to experiment on them. He smiles.
Big-Bad Reta |
Beaming with pride at her victory in the stirge challenge, Reta pumps her fists in time with her supporters' chants. She laughs as Chuffy emerges from the swamp covered head to toe in the muck. "Chuffy look better with mud mask. Chuffy can be chief of goblin spa!"
"Poog be chief chef of bird pies, and Moggie be chief of boom boom in the sky. We be biggest bestest goblin resort!"
Reta allows her arms to be bound by the other goblins, confident that she will be able to win this task easily and become the tribe's new chiefiest chief.

With a smile, Wise Mummy nods to Poog. "Yes, be yum yum when done. But no fireball to cook. Wise chiefy must be able to get out of trouble. If no kin get out, maybe no able to save tribe."
"Other points...well fer doing chiefy things." she adds, winking at Chuffy. "All tied up now and good.
As the last of you are bound, they pitch you into the goo and Sprattleharsh calls out "FINAL DARE BEGIN!"
Promptly four large eagles are dumped in on top of you. "SQUAWK SQUAWK SQUAK!" Fruitless flapping their clipped wings, they don't look happy.
