I should have the starting post up tomorrow, everyone; sorry for the wait. If you haven't yet, please have a glance at the Campaign Info thread, which has some helpful information regarding the game. I'll be updating this as we move forward. Any questions, please ask.

I'd say go with your own character. Here's the recruiting thread, feel free to say I mentioned the game to you.

GM Rapscallion |

My apologies to all; the Gameplay thread went wonky, but the paizo postmaster has fixed it, and we're good to go. Initial game post is up; let's get this thing started.
Sorry Nacona - nothing yet planned on my end; though I may take up another AP after I give this one some time to develop. I just don't want anything else to take away from this game, but I may find that I have the additional time after this gets rolling.

GM Rapscallion |

To elaborate; taking 10 has been a question raised in some of the threads discussing the game. Some are in favor and some are not; we're going to treat it as a familiarity benefit. When you start doing the same chores on the ship for days, we can reasonably assume that you grow skilled enough at that skill to perform it adequately without having to leave it to chance every time. We'll discuss further when we get closer; for now, we'll assume that it's all new...even to the Bosun:)

GM Rapscallion |

My apologies; just figured that I'd RP it on my end. Should you wish to RP the climb instead, which I appreciate, please assume that a failure by 5 or more is a fall, but you catch yourself after falling only 7.5 feet. A natural 1 is a fall to the deck, which would be quite painful. A failure by less than 5 merely means that you didn't gain any ground, perhaps you spent the round seeking handholds or fell back slightly only to reclaim your footing after only a foot or two.

I have been trying not to step on your toes with my RPing Rapscallion. I am trying to feel out what I should and shouldn't do. Please feel free to let me know if I overstep my bounds. I'm also used to playing good guys. They are easy. Those of a little more chaotic persuasion are a tad unfamiliar lol!

GM Rapscallion |

Ben - doing great so far; my toes have been purpled in the past, so no worries.
I'm with you on that; the worst is evil characters...I'm not saying I'm a saint, but I just can't get in their heads to RP them. I always feel guilty in a PBP if I stab another PC in the back.

Bendrauss Seaborn |

lol I would too. Ben is Chaotic Neutral and it just seems like that would be the "take care of number one kind of person right?" But do you suppose that means he couldn't develop friendships that he was willing to act out of character for? lol I will be pondering on this!

Chaotic Neutral characters are very difficult for me to play. My perception of them is that, at least initially, whatever relationships they form are either out of necessity or result in some sort of personal gain. I imagine that it wouldn't be impossible for some of these to develop into true friendships over some length of time, but it wouldn't be anything that they consciously worked to achieve.

Yeah, Jack is more a reference for his thought processes and motivations.
Jayne Cobb (from the TV show Firefly and the movie Serenity) is less farcical in his behavior, but has similar motivations. Jayne is not very clever, but he thinks that he is, so he sometimes makes plans with ulterior motives that backfire on him.

Just as a warning to everyone - my weekends can, at times, be spotty for lengthy posts. My 2 young kids and wife with her honey-do list make it a bit tough; most of my posting is done on my phone on the throne (far too much information, I know), or when I can sneak a post. I will do my best to keep up the pace, but if my posts lack a bit in detail over the weekend, I apologize in advance.

GM Rapscallion |

@all - please include a brief description of your appearance in your next post, as one on deck with average perception would see. If there's anything about you that you'd like to hide (except for your hidden item which is, of course, already hidden), please include a stealth or bluff check, as appropriate.

Louly a'Maris |

Feel free to make a Bluff check or something for that, as Louly can't cook actual food at all, but is hoping to find enough ingredients to make some thing to indispose the rest of the crew.
Also, does the ship have any siege weapons? She'd be interested in those.

GM Rapscallion |

@Louly - believe it or not - no; no siege weapons that you can currently see
@All - thus begins our daily life on the ship. Please feel free to read each other's spoilers in this instance; you're all quite aware of what the other is doing on this ship...just broke it into spoilers for ease of tracking.
Here's how it works - each day you all will have a main task, such as I've assigned in the last game post. Also, each PC can normally take two ship actions each day – one during the day and one at night. A PC can also attempt to take up to two additional ship actions during the middle watch in the dead of the night, but to do so the PC must make a successful Con check (DC10 +4/extra ship action taken), or be fatigued the next day
These available actions will be posted in the campaign info thread shortly, so we can all use it for reference. For now, please RP and roll your duties for the day, and let me know what other daytime action you'd like to take. Louly - my apologies, but you've another task, so you'll be a bit behind...but you get the great pleasure of dealing with someone named Fishguts!

Nacona and all: My Kingmaker recruitment's beginning a bit earlier than I expected, thanks to one player deciding touring Europe for six months after graduating is more important than gaming (lucky jerk!). No guarantees, obviously, but please feel free to apply.
Thanks! I posted a possible. I doubt he will get picked lol no one really wants an aspiring Hellknight around do they? I really want to try one tho!

GM Rapscallion |

@Kehlysch - Alas, your character will have to use a ship action - either day or night, or take an extra night action, if you need to get into the water...which, well, you have to. The Bilges have seawater, but it's a foul, brackish pit and probably would not be a viable alternative. Remember, if you take an extra night action, please roll a Con check to avoid being fatigued the next day
@All - I added a description of the Wormwood by commonly known rooms. A simple question to any crew member can give you directions to or the name of any of the areas, so we can assume them to be common knowledge. When/if you'd like to use a ship action to explore one of these, please let me know which.
@Gregor - please verify which area you'd like to explore

![]() |

@Gregor - please verify which area you'd like to explore
I chose below deck because since I don't know exactly what's down there I couldn't be more specific than that. Perhaps I'll just take a quick look around to ascertain a layout and then come back tomorrow to take a closer look in more specific areas?

Kehlysch |

Curious, what is your ruling as meeting daily immersion requirements for the following:
1.) Dumping a bucket of seawater on myself. If yes, how many buckets would qualify as meeting the requirement?
2.) Does freshwater work as well as seawater?
3.) Does magically conjured water work?
4.) Since the bilgewater is seawater, could I use it as a last resort, perhaps with a Fort Save vs disease?

GM Rapscallion |

Sure thing; I'll post a generic detail of the layout below decks, then you can use a ship action to get more detail the next day. This won't, however, use your ship action for the day. I'll add more detail to the campaign notes as "common knowledge"; using a ship action will yield you much more detail than will be available there.
So - you'll still have a ship action during the day to do with as you please.
