While we wait on Wakati and our benevolent(?) GM to return, anyone up for some fill-in roleplaying?
Brogol Stockl |
So, I just wanted to say that I really love what you all are doing with these characters. Really top-notch stuff.
Dashil Masozi |
Likewise! I look forward to seeing what our GM comes up with next
Dashil Masozi |
PS Are we done for tonight, and - if so - what's the plan for tomorrow? Do a planchette ritual at the fountain (with haunt siphon if needed) and see if we can get more information from Lereia?

I think Aduard's plan to tackle the haunt is a good step for tomorrow. Speaking purely in metagame terms, I'm sure that we're not ready to tackle Harrowstone. What other leads do we have? Perhaps we should put our heads here in the discussion thread?
We know that there's some connection to the Warden and his wife and the tragedy at Harrowstone. We know that the wife and the Warden lived on the spot that the Lorrimor mansion lives now. Brogol would like to find out what happened to the previous house.
We know the Professor was gathering an armory for some fight.
We have the books that I'm sure there's more information to be gleaned from.
What else do we know?
Dashil Masozi |
Good idea!
We know that there were some particularly vile individuals imprisoned all together (do we know names, identity, crimes, modus operandi?) and that they rioted.
We know the place burnt down, presumably with most of the prisoners inside(?).
We know someone in Ravengro daubed a letter 'V' on the monument in blood; we think it was Gibs, and he's been imprisoned.
We don't know if it's Gibs who also mutilated sheep, or if this is just unrelated background-level Ustalav-ness.
We suspect that the monument is the site of a haunting to do with Lereia's raven (familiar? Or just a pet?)
We know that Antrellus has had dealings with The King in Yellow, and that he killed Lereia's raven. He said he buried it somewhere near the monument, but isn't sure where.
Anything else?

Indeed. And the fire was of mysterious origin. And the Warden's wife was for some reason unknown at the prison that day.
We know someone in Ravengro daubed a letter 'V' on the monument in blood; we think it was Gibs, and he's been imprisoned.
I forgot about this! It is my assumption that the "V" on this statue has something to do with the warden's wife, who's first name also starts with "V". My Google-fu is failing me this morning. Vesriana? Or something like that.
or if this is just unrelated background-level Ustalav-ness.
Ha! A perfect description of this place.

It may be the monument (I think it is). But it could also be Leireia herself that is haunted. Perhaps the raven that Radag saw was a ghost as well?

On the basis that we're sharing (most) information, I've had a quick look back through the thread and found some more things we know:
Brogol found out that:
Secondly, while the commonly held belief is that the tragic fire began accidentally after the riot began, in fact the prisoners had already seized control of the dungeon and had been in command of the lower level for several hours before the fire. Warden Hawkran triggered a deadfall to seal the rioting prisoners in the lower level, but in so doing trapped himself and nearly two dozen guards. The prisoners were in the process of escaping when the panicked guards accidentally started the fire in a desperate attempt to end the riot.
Thirdly, and most bizarrely, is that the Lorrimor manor once belonged to the Hawkren family, a line that ended with the deaths of Lyvar and Vesorianna during the Harrowstone Prison Fire
Dmitri found out that:
Haunts aren't usually tied to a person, but rather to a location. The exact conditions that cause a haunt to manifest vary from case to case—but haunts always arise from a source of terrific mental or physical anguish endured by living, tormented creatures. A single, source of suffering can create multiple haunts, or multiple sources could consolidate into a single haunt. The relative power of the source has little bearing on the strength of the resulting haunt—it’s the magnitude of the suffering or despair that created the haunt that decides its power. Haunts can be temporarily defeated by holy power (ie. positive energy), but to truly end a haunt, one must remove the source of anguish
Dashil and Dmitri found out that:
"They took [Antrellus'] wife! Plied me like a fool with gifts and convinced me to bring her to a meeting. They called something that night. A multi-legged beast from out of a nightmare. I can still see it. Its mouth was like a lamprey's and its back was covered in blisters each containing a pulsing brain. It put worms in my wife and took her away. It tried to put worms in me too, but I have this."
He gestures to a ragged doll tied to his belt. Made of filthy sackcloth and stuffed with who knows what, the moppet lacked any noticeable features save the requisite head and limbs that betrayed its humanoid shape.
"My Marisol made it for our child. But now as long as I have it, they can't find me, and the worms can't get out. Do you understand?"
The moppet has a Protection from Evil spell on it.
EDIT: Also, dreams: Brogol dreamt that he was the warden's wife(?) waiting for him to come home; Dashil dreamt that she was sold a silver holy symbol by a merchant who turned into a demon and slit her wrists.
Kendra's mentioned bad dreams, but hasn't shared specifics. Someone should try and find out.

We need to do an IC information share.
...says the man who communicates mostly in spoilers ;)
Good thinking though. Let's do a big info-share at breakfast.
@GM Olmek - is there any more you need to do with this evening session (like send us any more bad dreams), or do we go straight into the morning session?

Ah, OK, so the raven is probably tied to the monument. So, what is the source of anguish? Leireria? The raven itself?

Yikes! I don't know how I forgot this! If the guy isn't totally crazy, this is very worrisome!
Thanks for recap, Dashil!

Hmmm... maybe - but why would anyone want to daub the first letter of her name in blood, some 50(?) years after she died? Then again, we don't know anyone else whose name begins with V, do we? So we assume it's Vesorianna unless we find otherwise. But that just raises a whole load of other questions.

Antrellus said he basically strangled it with his bare hands. And then drowned it. And then dumped it in an unmarked grave, underwater. If it was a Familiar and not just a raven (i.e. an intelligent, magical animal), maybe this alone would be enough to turn it into a haunt?
Brogol Stockl |

I (and Brogol) am operating under the assumption that it is because Ustalev. Could be Mrs. V, risen from the dead, or a cult dedicated to her, or a haunt connected to Harrowstone, or any other myriad things. 'Cause, Ustalev :)
Dashil Masozi |
Ha - it seems that Dashil's cynicism is catching! ;)
Aduard Bookman |
Trying to come up with a reason IC for us to share the information people posted OOC. Your post especially really helped me Dashil.
Dashil Masozi |
Glad to be of service, Aduard.
Since we're pretty much agreed to tackle the fountain haunt, shall we do that? We can spoiler our discussion as necessary if we want to continue it, but it would be good to give our GM something to do - other than sit around plotting our demise, I mean... ;)
Dashil Masozi |
Sorry, me again...
In this post, our benevolent(?) GM awarded us some treasure, including arrows.
Since I'm the only one with a bow, I propose to take the dozen silver arrows, ten +1 arrows, five +1 ghost touch arrows, and the two +1 undead bane arrows.
That leaves:
four sun rods, (Humaaaaans!)
six flasks of holy water, (1 each plus 1 for... someone?)
five potions of cure light wounds, (1 each)
two potions of lesser restoration, (???)
a scroll of detect undead, (???)
two scrolls of hide from undead, (???)
and a scroll of protection from evil (???)
...
..
.
Thoughts?
D
Wakati Nahodha |
Hey all, I'm back. It turns out I had a bowel obstruction, which required surgery and close to 2 weeks stay in the hospital. Everything went well, and I'm slowly getting back into my routine. Which includes catching up on by PbP games. I will get a gameplay post up later today or tomorrow, and should be back to regular posting after that.
As to Dashil's post on divvying up the loot, either Dmitri or Wakati should be able to use any of the scrolls. Perhaps split them between us?

Dang.
Good to have you back. :)
Brogol Stockl |
Glad you're back, Wakati, and glad to hear you're recovering well.
Brogol Stockl |
Your greatest shame is beautiful, Brogol. Wow. Just... Wow.
Thanks, Aduard! It was fun to write, and inspired in no small part by your journal.

I'll happily take a flask of holy water, a potion of CLW, and a sunrod (Brogol's got those weak human eyes, 'cause he really needed the extra skill points...)
Dashil Masozi |
Yikes, welcome back Wakati!
EDIT: @ Brogol - you gave up your Darkvision?! The youth of today, they just don't know when they've got a good thing... *shakes head*
Aduard Bookman |
Aduard will take a potion of cure light wounds and a potion of holy water, please.
Do we want to see if we can acquire or craft anything else?
Dashil Masozi |
For crafting, go for it - not sure how much money's available; or time, for that matter. What were you thinking of making?
BTW, are we all happy with this:
"So then, we're agreed - we take tha planchette ta tha fountain an' ask tha raven wha its name is?"
as the plan for today?
Dashil Masozi |
Probably shouldn't have spoilered it, I guess, but my posts have been getting a bit long - I admire those with the self-discipline to keep theirs short; it's a skill I have yet to acquire!
Dashil Masozi |
Ugh. Totally missed the spoiler where Dashil asked the haunt a question. I've been sitting on my hands waiting it for a couple days now. XD
The suspense...
I like to think that our GM isn't posting because he's busy plotting his ascension to lichdom from his Charnel Throne, while a devoted hunchbacked minion plays sinister music on an organ constructed from human bones - and if he isn't, then he ought to be: this is the Carrion Crown AP! I just honestly don't know what else he'd be doing with his (un)life...

Hi guys/gals,
I want to try out at least some of the new Unchained rules, and I've set up a thread to gauge interest.
Feel free to dot in (here) if you'd like to be involved! Be good to get your input.

I've only just reviewed the rogue class, and read a little about the barbarian. Im a few, pbp games short of what Id like, so I would have the time to read up on everything else and contribute, but Im certain you'll have no problem finding better testers than myself. To blow my own horn though, im pretty active and thats hard to come by on the forums so Ill definatrly follow your link and throw something out there either today or this weekend.

Oh, and this seems the most appropriate thread for me to say RIP Christopher Lee - a voice that made me want to stop whatever I was doing and lie down quietly... Have a listen and tell me you disagree!

Always and forever, a better wizard than Gandolf. RIP Christopher Lee

Never heard Mr. Lee's rendition of this poem before - it is pretty great.
Regarding CoCT, I'm heading over to dot, and would love the chance to play that game. I've played part of a 5E version of a CoCT prologue leading that petered out before
I'd probably submit the same character from that game, who I enjoyed playing, Pathfinderized as a Swashbuckler 1/Bard X.
Aduard Bookman |
Dashil: if it makes you feel better, on the rolls more central to his concept Aduard rolls terribly.
I mean, when did Aduard become the one talking people into following the law.
