Nothing wrong with a little jaded stoicism in a horror-themed story. :) And surely Aduard hasn't seen everything.

I'll wave the pre-reqs for Breadth of Experience, by the way.

"Hey... don't say that to a half blind oracle wielding a scythe."

Well, he doesn't have to have the clearest memory..."Angel Heart" comes to mind....

Grand Lodge

How young of a human could I play without having to take the young template? 13? 14? Younger or older?

The rules say that humans reach adulthood at 15. So I'll say 15 is the youngest you can be without taking Young.

Grand Lodge

Ok

Thanks Axolotl - just looked it up and that looks like a fascinating movie. I did have things in his background so some images will be piecemeal and disjointed.
GM Olmek: thanks for waiving them :)

Actually, the more I think about it the more I think the "slowly recovering memories" idea is a good one. That way if he has seen something he can be scared of it, have a flashback to being scared earlier, and be scared of that as well.
It also nicely fits the fact he's 1st level again; if he had all his memories, he'd be a later level.

I just add two quirks to the last step in the "10-minute-background"™ since I had only memories there so far.

I'm going to see about getting a last minute submission in for this, we'll see if i can swing it. I'm in the mood for something spooky.

Updating the list.

Martial
Maxim Kanterhaus, Human Fighter
Radag Ironfist, Half Elf Ranger
Moira de'Karne, Human Gunslinger

Skilled
Vivian Deberth, Human Rogue
Brogol Stockl, Half Orc Investigator
Genie Bawttle, Halfing Rogue
Dashil Masozi, Aasimar Inquisitor of Sarenrae

Arcane
Barvo Radarian, Tiefling Magus (Bladebound)
Aduard "Old Faust" Bookman, Human Wizard (Spell Sage)
Desrovyn Barazakshev, Human Wizard (Spirit Whisperer)

Divine
Dred 'Scythe' Mardock, Aasimar Oracle of Battle (Dual Cursed)
Narah an'Aras, Sylph Cleric of Calistria
Wakati Nahodha, Elf Oracle of Time (Ancient Lorekeeper)
Dmitri Zorya, Human Cleric of Cayden Cailean (Evangelist)

That's a healthy group of applicants. I'm actually extending the deadline an additional 24 hours to 11:59 PM EST on the first of October. This is for a couple of reasons: one, to let the people that are still interested get a character in, and two, to give me sufficient time to review all of the submissions. I have limited internet access at home right now, but that should change soon.

I'll take take "Old Faust" out of the name if he gets in, I originally put it in to differentiate the two characters, and as a placeholder. I'll also do a little more clean up of the application.

I have tried and tried to create "Young Faust". I've found ways to control the influx of summoned creatures, but the trouble is that the builds I am creating keep bumping into niches other characters already have (which would be a problem with meshing, I think).

I'm not too worried about niche collision with Barvo and Desrovyn. Barvo has a fighting ability far in excess of Aduard.

Desrovyn is more complex, but I think given both Spell Sage and Spirit Whisperer trade away Arcane Schools (and therefore get much less in the way of spells/day) we'd be alright for not colliding too much. I think perhaps we might want to tune the characters slightly (Given Bookman is book focused and Desrvyn is a Spirit Whisperer, probably push Bookman more towards book skills and knowledges). If Desrovyn is still masquerading as a wizard I could see an interesting set of reactions with both Desroyvn and Bookman trying to convince the "normal wizard" that both of them are who they seem. Certainly from my point of view a character who gives Bookman the fear of being caught out is a good thing.

Alright, I have cleaned up the Profile a bit.
Made 2 mechanical changes;

I changed the Spell Focus: Evocation to Heroic (2 Hero points when leveling)

I also removed some knowledges, bought spellcraft (oops) and bought crafts:books. I figure craft:books is the craft you use to make and write books. There's a number of them in the equipment section, so probably worth having. I guess profession: author is more about making writing books people will pay to read that can be reprinted by a publisher.
If that sounds crazy, please, stop me!

Two wizards solves the prepared spell conundrum, that's for sure! As Aduard is really SAD on Intelligence, that will give him great DCs for non-ranged touch spells, and then Des can go for ranged touch (at times). Knowledge skills could be spread around as well, although redundancy is nice for Aid Another. Desrovyn is not masquerading as a wizard; he's pretty comfortable in his own skin these days, starry longings notwithstanding.

Spirit Whisperer with Heavens Spirit gets Des a killer debuff in the form of Starshine. There's no save! I had to re-read it to make sure. Well, it's not a huge debuff at first, but it grows.

I had considered a straight Heavens Shaman, but that would conflict with divine caster contenders, not to mention that probably (?) a strong anti-undead cleric type is needed for this campaign.

Oh good, this gives me enough time to finish my crunch :)

Here's Feth with my submission. She's a Goblin Firebomber Alchemist.

Suspense is killing me, I must have read this post about twenty times.

Not sure we've solved the prepared spell conundrum. Together we can prep 5 spells. If Aduard was a 'normal' wizard with a school and a bonded item he could prep 4 and spontaneous 1. If he were a Thassalonian specialist he could prep 5 and have a spontaneous up his sleeve.

Normally wizards gestalt a but by sharing spellbooks. Not possible in this case.

Starshine certainly is a nice debuff.!

So this is terribly embarrassing, but between an odd week at work and moving into a new apartment, I seem to have lost a day some where. Up until 15 minutes ago, I thought today was Wednesday.

Suffice to say that I'm currently deciding on a group. The selected players will be posted some time later tonight or tomorrow.

Dark Archive

Looking forward to your decisions. :)

Good luck all!

It happens - thank you for telling us :)

Totally understandable. Good luck, everybody!

Good luck all, heavens know we'll need it for whatever is to come!

That's fine, good accomplishment to lose a day without the assistance of alcohol!

Good luck, all

I would cross my fingers, but Dred thinks it's bad luck.

Here are my selections:

Aduard Bookman
Dashil Masozi
Wakati Nahodha
Brogol Stockl
Dmitri Zorya
Radag Irefist

Please head over to the Gameplay thread. :)

To everybody else, thanks for applying. You didn't make this easy.

Congratulations, all! Aduard, it's up you in the arcane department! :D

Thanks Axolotl, you've built big boots for me to try to fill. Great concept, I hope you get to use it.
