Perhaps you all can help me with my work here. Apart of my time is spent making a one shot con game that is Cthulhu Now Zombie Apocalypse.
Do any of you have any ideas for iconic zombie fighting characters. Need eight have
Mother - defends daughter to her dying breath.
Girl Child - Zombie Bait Survival.
Lone Vagabond - always finds something useful.
Up and coming Rap artist - seems to attrack...trouble

Ex-convict/Prisoner - self-serving, but realizes that he'll survive longer as part of a team. Can kick some serious a$$.
Army Ranger/Navy Seal - knows tactics, familiar with heavy weapons, etc.

Geek/Gamer - knows the lore, all but useless in a fight

Old-timer Ex-Military - Vietnam vet or the like, crotchety grandpa, stuff like that.
I wonder how much better it would be to change the Army guy into a cop. Give a bit of edge to the Rp, should the players want to.
Oh and I forgot to add. The Doctor, knows a lot of stuff, and it only seems to make everything worse.

What about an academic of some sort? Maybe a college professor? Knows a ton -- heh, just read Makvor's edit, which is basically the same as this suggestion. Might be more fun as a gamer, though.
So would it be better to have a Professor type or a Doctor type. There isn't a lot of differance with the persona so much as skill base, thou there could be a cross ulitiy thing going on there.
So long as this Academic/doctor allows for the campaign hook.
Which is, as the zombie outbreak is upon them and the military is declaring and praticing martial law everything goes to sh*t. The characters are saved by/run accross a friend of the Doctor/Academic. Who turns out to be something of a serial killer, but has just been living with it for years. Now that the end of days is upon them he sees fit to do whatever he wants, which is kidnap the PCS through drugs and put them into a SaW like senerio, but with NPCs.
I got the trap worked out for that too, or at least the mechanic.

For the knows-stuff role, I'd lean more toward a professor with "friends" in low places.

In addition to the names I gave in the PMs I sent, I've got a friend who's got a friend who may be willing to GM for us, or failing that may be able to find us a GM. My proposal is that we decide on a new GM by this weekend (whether it's one of the other current volunteers, or someone new that my friend's friend provides).
Does that seem reasonable?

So I've got a volunteer... a reasonable guy, in fact. I know him from the MUD I help administer, though I've not known him for more than a few months.
The only proviso (so far) is that he only runs games on myth-weavers, so we'd have to relocate to that site. I've already got an account there, so that's not a problem for me -- how do you all feel about it? Deal-breaker?
The volunteer and I had the following conversation (pardon the language; posting it as-is):
<Prospective GM> tells you 'I can do about 1 per 2 days, realistically. And I can't do weekends just cause that's my family time (I post from work). I'm pretty easy going to deal with. I'm not a serious GM in the least (no heavy dramatic roleplay from me), and generally stick with simple and easy.'
You tell <Prospective GM> 'Hrm, what do you mean by the roleplay bit?'
<Prospective GM> tells you 'In the world of TV shows, I'm closer a long ways from the Breaking Bad or the Sopranos and closer to something like Doctor Who or crappy ass sitcoms. I roleplay, but I don't do the drama side for crap.'
<Prospective GM> tells you 'Getting drama from me would be like getting Sci-Fi from Shakespeare- it'd feel false and hacked on. I do lighthearted roleplay just fine.'
You tell <Prospective GM> 'Seems fine to me... the players are generally the ones doing any dramatic roleplaying, at least in my experience.'
<Prospective GM> tells you 'There's a forum here: http://www.myth-weavers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=24380 you and the other players can chat me up there if ya like'
You tell <Prospective GM> 'Whatcha want us to chat you up about? ;)'
