GM, I think I may not be able to see some posts. When Adelie asked if there was any other exits, I went back to look at the descriptions you gave. I can't find posts or private messages beyond the first arrival in the room. I know I posted asking if there was a carving that would take me back, and I thought you'd replied there were two in the room. But I can't find those any where. Was there a second room description that mentioned any other exits?

My posting may be patchy this weekend. I doubt I'll get to post tomorrow.

Aaaand is this where Tragershen starts to wear all black? Going to mull this over and post in the morning!
Hey, it would with Bilbo and Smaug, and Drizzt and Errtu. And if we can delay a TPK with it, so much the better!
My other plan was to wait until someone drew the demon's AOO and sprint to one of the teleporters, desperately pitching a haste spell over my shoulder on the way out.
Besides, Nethys' colors are black and white; from time to time, he may drift a little north or south of neutral as the situation demands. :)
Edit: As so what if the demon wants to mark and track us. We've already got a Druid and Dragon doing it. Pretty soon everything in the bestiary that starts with a "D" will have a claim on us. :P
Adelie
Adelie and Mone are standing directly opposite the teleporter (or directly next to the other thing which may also be a teleporter). They are unlikely to survive a 100-foot journey past a huge super-powerful demon, but they'd be willing to give it a try if it came to that. Or take their chances with the carving they can touch without moving.
If the demon ends up tracking us, this will be the first large evil thing to lay claim to us since Adelie joined! How exciting! :)

This will surely not bite us in the behind.
Nice work Tragershen. Otherwise we might all be rolling up new characters!
I may not get to post tomorrow. Will see.
Anzath
Just in case you missed it because Anzath almost died from friendly fire...
...but we just picked up another 2 scrolls of Remove Disease. Ehem, Talathel, ehem.
also 4 unidentified potions.

Edit: Moving this to the out of character thread.
"No doubt there are cultists in Querax! Though Orcus don't rule the city-fortress, not unless things have changed, scant news lately. I might've spoke less clearly than I should've--Ques Querax is well beyond my stagecoach's range. I can take people to various abandoned institutions, edifices, and forts. Some scenic points of interest. But I go no farther than the Gates of Gloom of Rappan Athuk, and nobody's been foolish enough to ask for that particular ride in some time, except those few folk what return home through the Gates. And, of course, the Last One Inn. May I? Just want the meat, for m'pigs. Their stuff's yours, naturally."
Urovok starts dragging the acolytes to the door.
The carriage driver said he goes to an entrance to Rappan Athuk. Do we feel strong enough to try that route, or do we want to go overland to the spot that Bristleback showed us on his map?

Well... what's the worst that could happen, eh? :P
GM Parrot
Happy to do whatever you all want to do, but in addition to traveling to Rappan Athuk either above or below ground, you could head back to the Ferry, where you actually have a lot of treasure waiting for you (Ippolit and Gelver and the merchants had tons of $$$ on them). Money's fun, but you would also know that a lot of the best stuff you'd actually want to buy is a boat ride away in Riddleport. The dragon's deadline was the end of the 30 day month--Anzath needs to prove her worth as a hoard-builder. The Laughing Dolphin is due back on the first of the month, but the war might disrupt its schedule (the war and/or pirates, monsters, who knows).
The important thing now is to pick a direction and head in it.

I would vote for Zelkor's Ferry. We could take a breath and get some news, and see where we are at. From there, we could go on to the main Rappan Athuk entrance or to Riddleport.
I'm not sure what to think about the dragon. For all we know, it could sleep through its thirty day deadline by a year or two, or it could get bored/greedy and say "Meh, a week is plenty of time." I doubt it has a calendar on its lair wall.

I think we're due some relative sanity. Bedlam especially.
Talathel Rhuiren
I'm all for GMs getting additional exercise. It's good for mind and body. Soul is another matter, you're running Rappan Athuk after all! ;)
Also, Zelkor's Ferry!
Tragershen
I've never climbed to the top, but I've done the drive and hiked the Ape Caves. Have a blast!
Get it? Volcano? Blast? Heh, heh.
This is a good summer for it. The temperatures aren't so high that you're at risk for heat exhaustion by walking to your car, and there isn't wildfire ash drifting from the sky like snow.

Sounds lovely!
Between erratic weather and being the proud owner of a pair of senior dogs, I haven't been able to stray terribly far from home for being outdoorsy this year.
GM Parrot
Mt. St. Helens picked my pocket and stole my phone!
Should be able to sort that out fairly quickly, but dang.
Going to take care of that, but I should be able to get a post up today. Back to Zelkor's Ferry seems to be the favored option at the moment, so I'll do the forest rolls (you don't need to fear wolves anymore, yay!) unless you come up with a different plan.

Welcome back!
Did you summit it? Wait, that doesn't sound right. It doesn't have a peak anymore.
Did you rim it? Wait, that definitely sounds wrong...
Other than losing your phone, did it go well?
Anzath
(you don't need to fear wolves anymore, yay!)
...nor spiders, right?
Tragershen
I'm thinking about selling the snake tunic. Or at least putting it back into the pot for someone else to claim.
Ballpark, how much are we talking here? Is it worth a trip to Riddleport to get crafting supplies?
If Adelie and Lolly are a decent amount ahead of the rest of us, then maybe calibrate some to catch the rest of us up? What does everyone else think?
Anzath
Anzath only expects to be able to restock on potions and adjust her new breastplate.
GM Parrot
Quick ballpark, I think the party has amassed about 9k of cash and unclaimed loot--the merchants also owe you 10k, and I'm not going to complicate that overmuch, I just thought it'd be fun to have your treasure get its own story.
The real limit is the low level of stuff available in Zelkor's Ferry. I can roll up some random magic loot at Rasmus' shop, but there aren't any custom crafters in town other than Tragershen.
Tragershen
I would be fine waiting to do a Riddleport run. I'll just keep the vest until we are ready to go back then. I would love to get some scrolls and scribing material; I used a lot of scrolls in that fight with the little demons. Do we roll for each scroll and potion we are looking for? And yes, I would be curious what Rasmus has in stock.
Aurora Fallowarc
Re:Splitting the Loot, I don't have any strong opinions on the matter, but it'll probably be a good idea to keep everyone as evenly geared as possible. As an aside, DM, Aurora's already claimed Yaza's second light mace.
On that note — any shields for sale in the Ferry?
Talathel Rhuiren
Talathel wouldn't say no to the snakeskin tunic. :)
And a run to Riddleport sounds very apt indeed.
Tragershen
We do need to go as far as the sea to see to disposing of Yaza's remains. That puts us a good way towards Riddleport anyway. And if we've got enough information for the Sarenite wizard to think we've discovered the cause of the outbreak, we may be able to convince him to make part of our reward teleporting us to the start of Rappan Athuk proper (per Bristleback's map).
Tragershen
As I understand that, the dragon expects us to take treasure to his island. And he's expecting at least 5k worth of stuff (the value of her swords, at least). Do we know which island is his? It looks like there are a few on the map that have encounter numbers (24, 26 and maybe 19?). At the very least we can meet him near the coast rather than Zelkor's Ferry; he can sense how far and what direction it is to Anzath's bracelet).
So maybe we do what shopping we can here at Zelkor's Ferry. Then head to the main entrance of Rappan Athuk. Then head down to the mouth of the river. See if we can catch the Dolphin on its way to Zelkor's Ferry to give us a ride to the island? I'm just spitballing here.
Do we know how long it should take to get to Rappan Athuk? Do we know how long we have until the dragon's time is up?
Talathel Rhuiren
Are we certain about that gold value?
Catching a lift sounds promising.
I have no idea of the distances.
Anzath
If fancy swords is what we need, there’s only one place to get ‘em.
And thanks to a Tragershen for being the dutiful player and taking notes.
Talathel Rhuiren
Thank you, Tragershen. :)

It's my pleasure!
GM, if there is anything we can do to help with the accounting portion, just let us know.
When it comes to confronting the dragon, I was thinking part of our argument for unleashing Anzath could be this: we are established in Zelkor's Ferry, so he knows where to find us. Sending Anzath in with the tether could pose a risk to the dragon. We may be facing powerful liches and other casters. If they defeat us and use divinations to trace the dungeon ring to its master, they could mount an offense against the dragon under the assumption that it is invading their domain. And while some liches and an army of undead may not be lethal to such a powerful dragon, but it would certainly be inconvenient.

As much as i loathe the dragon stealing from our wealth, keeping the bracelet i actually think is in our best interest. The more the dragon sees us as an asset, the more protective of us it will be. Not because of any altruistic sensibility, but just out of pure draconic narcissism and greed. It knowing Anzath's location and overall status is actually a good thing... I think.
But Anzath is true neutral, and has no qualms with allying with a red dragon if it means her continued existence.

I don't mind the dragon tracking you too much. Against some foes, we might be able to bluff that we are under the dragon's protection. As for the treasure it takes, I think of that a bit like a savings account. And when we are higher level (10, 11?), we go and make withdrawal. A Big withdrawal. With interest.
It might be nice to buy more time though. One month isn't much when we are dealing with overland and sea travel.
I wonder if we can convince the dragon to give us some intelligence; if it has flown over the whole area, it might know what has territory where.
Tragershen
It totally makes sense that Rasmus wouldn't have had time to find new stock. Can Trag find materials to scribe scrolls and to have Bedlam craft alchemical items?
Anzath
I too would like to put in an order for some alchemist fires, acid flasks, antiplagues and antivenoms, If I may. Like, 3 of each?
Also, would things like silver and/or cold iron bolts be available?
