Kajar nods at Shuo's arrow.
He whispers to Lissa, "Nope, but I hope he speaks our Common tongue, or even a pigin of it. I'm gonna move up, slowly."

The cautious pathfinders (save Nbu T'ka) reach for their weapons at the sight of the figure at the edge of the water. Nbu T'ka, not known for his tact, marches up to the water and expertly grabs one of the centipedes. It wriggles around his hand before being popped in the Tengu's mouth.
The figure remains motionless until Nbu T'ka passes into his periphial vision. He turns his head to regard the oddity, then slowly stands up and turns to finally see the rest of the group.
See tactical for a headshot
"Who are you, and what are you doing here?" he says, curious, but guarded after a few moments of staring. His voice carries an odd, nasal tone to it as he speaks. His face shows signs of age, and his body the signs of some moderate weight gain one might expect as they get older. The most striking feature are the three lines of gills along his neck that mark him as a gillmen, and bright purple eyes that are highlighted by stark black hair.

![]() |

"We are Pathfinders!" Nbu T'ka declares when he finally swallows the centipede with a loud *gulp*, "And *squawk* we are here to discover more about these caves - and why you and your fellow gillmen are here. Ooh, that's a pretty diorama. Do you *squawk* know anything about it?"
The unarmed, aged gillman doesn't seem to scare Nbu T'ka like the spider swarms, minotaur or even the pit did.
"That's also a strange speech impediment you have there," Nbu T'ka bows his head in the tengu fashion to indicate that he is not trying to be rude, "If I don't *squawk* miss my guess... I'd say you had trouble hearing your own words."

![]() |

"Oh, um...no thank you Nbu T'ka, I'm still full from breakfast!" Nella whispers in response to the offer of a centi-snack, flinching slightly as droplets of bug juice splatter on her clothing.
As Nbu addresses the gillman, she looks on curiously though she seems to be struggling with herself and trying not to simply stare. "That's right! We don't mean any harm," she slowly raises her hands to show that they're empty. "We're just here to learn more about the caverns, like he said - we weren't sure who or what you were at first. My name is Nella and this is Nbu T'ka, Kajar, Lissa, Luthor and Shuo," she adds, pointing at each of her companions in turn.

GM_PapaSteve |

Should have mentioned something in the previous room. The blue torches are everburning torches. Feel free to take one if you like, just note it in your post.
The man stares intently at Nbu T'ka's beak as he speaks, doing his best to hide his confusion.
"I've never read the lips of a Tengu before... Do you actually have lips?" he says, not really indicating that he couldn't quite understand the occultist. He recognizes the physical indication of the elaborate carved city on the platform, and guesses he is asking about it.
"It is a city, one with which I am guessing you are quite familiar with."
Know: History, Nbu T'ka: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
know: religion, Nella: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
know: geography, Kajar: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
know: religion, Shuo: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
know: local, Shuo: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Just as the gillman begins to explain what Nbu T'ka is pointing at, The party recognizes several of the landmark buildings in the diorama, then the whole as an intricate carving of Absalom, with a surprising amount of fine detail. The most distinct part is the impressive carving of the Starstone Cathedral.
Lissa: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Kajar: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Nbu T'ka: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Shuo: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Nella: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Luthor: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Lissa: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Kajar: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Nbu T'ka: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Shuo: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Nella: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Luthor: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Lissa, Kajar, Nella and Luthor get the distinct impression that as the gillman takes in the sight of the assembled pathfinders, he is looking at the cloak that Lissa is holding. Kajar, Nella and Nbu T'ka happen to notice that the gillman is wearing a nearly identical cloak.
"Nella, it is then?" The gillman says, focusing intently on her lips as she speaks. His hands remain folded in front of him, and he stands in a very relaxing posture. "I am Uori. This is a holy site for my people. We come to listen to the waters. It is a pilgrimage of sorts for us. The pure water is holy to us." He smiles ambivilantly.
"I ask that you please take care in your... learning endeavors."
I'll give you guys an opportunity to interact more with this guy, I will try to keep responses to your questions and statements on a quick turnaround so we don't dwell on this forever. I've got another little nudge for you in short order as well, since there is a wrinkle in here that you would never know unless I nudge you along on it. There are consequenses (good or bad) depending on how your interaction with Uori goes.

Nbu T'ka looks insulted, 'Lips! *Squawk* well, I never!"
The tengu struts off. It must be hard for a deaf man to understand me with my beak, but still... 'lips'!*
"Lissa," begins Nbu T'ka, deliberately facing away from the gillman, "He's wearing clothes that look like the cloak you're holding. I wouldn't give it to him, though! Did you hear what he said? 'Lips'!"

![]() |

Shuo tries to study this man.
This man does not look dangerous... but it is better not to risk it.
Shuo puts his bow only a bit down.
"Honored man, we indeed came in peace and we have no intention of disturb or profane the holy site of your people."
He thinks for a moment.
"Perhaps you, honored one, could explain to us why is this cave so importante to your people? We will surely disturb less hearing than searching."

![]() |

"My name is Luthor. I've lived in the city my entire life, well the full size one anyway." he says with a chuckle.
Luthor makes of point of trying to speak clearly once he knows the man is trying to read his lips, though not so slow as to insult him.
"That carving of Absolom looks amazingly detailed. How long has it and this site been here for?"

![]() |

*chuckles* I was beaten to all the questions I would have asked.
Lissa feels slightly uncomfortable with the attention the gillman is giving her, though that lessens a little when she realizes that it's the cloak he's interested in, not her.
"Lissa, He's wearing clothes that look like the cloak you're holding. I wouldn't give it to him, though! Did you hear what he said? 'Lips'!"
Lissa smiles faintly at Nbu T'ka's outrage. "Not everyone has dealt with the true pride of the tengu, Nbu T'ka. I'm sure he didn't mean offense." She steps past the offended avian, and goes to ask a question. But as she's about to open her mouth....
"Perhaps you, honored one, could explain to us why is this cave so importante to your people? We will surely disturb less hearing than searching."
That was the gist of the question she was about to ask. With a slight frown, she closes her mouth and thinks for a moment. Then she is about to speak again, and...
"That carving of Absolom looks amazingly detailed. How long has it and this site been here for?"
With a bit of frustration, as her query was again asked before she could say it, she huffs again and goes to examine, but not touch, the water in the pool, and whatever is in the pool bed. The urge to touch it with her powers is a little strong, though.

![]() |

Kajar regards the gillman with suspicion, especially as he follows the man's eyes towards the cloak Lissa holds. He decides Uori knows more than he reveals; his hand relaxes from the hilt of his sword.
"Master Uori, we seek knowledge, I have two questions- how long has your tribe considered these caves sacred?"
Kajar pauses, hoping the gillman could read his toothy mouth. He points towards the cloak,
"And have you sent your companion away, or is this cloak meant as a sign for your companion to join you?"

GM_PapaSteve |

Ok - So right now Uori is indifferent towards you. Asking information, looking for help/favors would require a diplomacy check. I am going to roll aid checks for each of you who spoke with him, and then take your best diplomacy check. DC to improve his attitude is 15+ his CHA modifier.
Diplomacy aid, Nbu T'ka: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Diplomacy aid, Luthor: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Diplomacy aid, Kajar: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (13) - 1 = 12
Diplomacy aid, Lissa: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (11) - 1 = 10
Diplomacy aid, Shuo: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (8) - 1 = 7
Diplomacy Main, Nella with 3 aids: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 6 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 25
This officially improves his attitude to helpful, per the diplomacy skill description. I like when the rolls back up the role (play). He has no reason not to help you (as well as no reason to help you) but you were polite and showed respect. Just the way I would think he should react, based on his description.
Uori smiles politely at the Tengu and nods his head. He cocks his head sideways a bit when he reads Lissa's lips, and furrows his brow slightly in confusion, unsure what he might have said to offend anyone. Love it...
He turns to each of them who have addressed him, relaxing visibly as they show him respect and curiosity.
"Gillmen have been coming to these caves for many years. It is sacred to us. It once was sacred to the god Aroden, but like the carvings you saw on the way in, his influence on this earth, and in this cave is fading fast." His nasally voice rings out as he speaks, and he begins to use his hands in conjunction with his voice.
"The cloak, master Kajar. I am glad you recognize it belongs to one of my kin. Unfortunately he passed here during the last lunar cycle, and we have not heard from him since. Where did you find it, may I ask?"
Uori turns to Luthor, "I do not know how long this miniature city has been here. It has been here since before my people started coming to listen to the waters here. I do know that it, and these walls, hold a fading remnant of Aroden's divine blessing. Perhaps there is something you need to do? Please, feel free to do what you must to study. I only ask you treat this place with respect. It may have once belonged to Aroden, but it is for my kin now."
Addressing the whole group, he says, "Master Kajar says you seek knowledge. I implore you, seek higher than just knowledge. Seek Truth."
I've got more for you, but ran out of time tonight. He gave you a hint, and I have another hint for you when I have a few more minutes.

![]() |

Kajar bows in an awkward facsimile of grandeur.
"I am humbled, Master Uori, but it is I who serve; 'Kajar' is enough to bend my ear. Surely you know of the pit trap close to the entrance to these caverns? It was triggered long ago, thus the plank to cross the pit- "
Kajar smiles, hoping to convey platitude.
"Master Lissa was deft enough to pull the cloak from the pit."
Truth....

![]() |

As Uori shares with them what he knows about the cavern, Nella pulls her journal out of her pack and begins scribbling fiercely as she mumbles to herself. "Gillman holy site...carving of Absalom...once sacred to Aroden...lunar cycles..."
This is good stuff!
When the gillman mentions that his companion has been missing since his last journey here, she frowns and looks up at him once more. "Kajar's right; we found the cloak in the pit near the entrance to the caverns but no other signs of anyone or anything. We uh...already had contact with some of the things that roam around outside," she says, absently rubbing at remnants of bug bites, "but is there anything dangerous in the caves themselves that you know of?"
But this isn't good stuff...something tells me that Uori's friend wouldn't have left that cloak behind voluntarily.
"Seek the truth..." she muses, looking thoughtful.
Are we supposed to seek the truth behind what happened to Uori's friend or is it something to do with the divine magic that he says lingers here? Or both?
"Seek...higher..."
For lack of any other obvious solutions, the priestess turns her attention to the cavern's ceiling, squinting to see if there's anything to be seen aside from stalactites.

![]() |

I'll try to take a step back from the conversation here. As a long time PFS player this is the third time i'm playing this adventure. I'll join in what others are doing rather than push forward any new ideas right now.
"It is nice to meet you Uori." Luthor offers his hand for a hand shake. "It's amazing to find such an inspirational holy place this close to Absolom that few have seen before."
Luthor takes some time to admire the carved city. He tries to spot places he knows even as he reflects on his own religious beliefs.

![]() |

Nbu T'ka calms down, but still refuses to face or speak to the gillman. He instead wanders into the waters to inspect the model city of Absalom. He quickly grows bored, but pretends to take great interest. He even pulls out his journal and draws a picture of it as best he can.
Craft (lanscape sketch): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
The focused tengu creates a drawing that is better than an untrained hand has any right to make.

![]() |

"Wait. If he came in the way we did, he would have spotted the cloak in the pit. It was rather obvious..."
Lissa pauses as she gathers the information together, before returning her attention to the gillman.
"How did you get in here? Does one of the other two tunnels connect to the outside, or did you come in the way we came?"

![]() |

"Master Uori, Master Lissa asks an important question. May I also ask if there are others dwelling here, beyond your sacred pool?"
Kajar feels a bit lost; the glyphs the others were so excited about mean nothing to him. He knows little about Absalom, its history and peoples. He wants to find out more about Uori's companion, thinking that might tell them more about the pool's significance, and the cavern's importance to Janira and the Society.
"Maybe Uori knows not what we seek. He has not answered any question with facts, just generalizations..."

GM_PapaSteve |

Uori regards Lissa with amusement as she opens her mouth, only to close it impatiently as each of her companions beats her to a question. When she finally gets a word in edgewise, he calmly replies, "Lissa, I feel a strange connection to you that I cannot explain. Perhaps it is your heart, I sense it is as wild as the sea, calm and stormy all the same. The waters speak to me, even more so than my kin. They tell me that they speak to you as well, though you don't seem to hear them the same way.
You no doubt saw the plank on your way in. I, and my people, are well aware of the pit. The plank allows us to pass over it and back with ease. I never looked in the bottom of the pit to see the cloak when I came in, if that is indeed where you say you found it. I am impressed that you were able to retrieve it from so far down." When he switches to speak about the cloak, he looks at it again, intently, wringing his hands.
He turns to regard Luthor, "You humans as a whole tend to have short memories, and often only care about the future. Aroden, from what I know of him, was only revered by humans. Since his disappearance over a century ago, the memory of him and his influence is fading as fast as your race turns the generations. It does not surprise me that this holy place has faded from your memories. No offense intended." he says with a polite bow.
"Nella, you are a gentle spirit, I sense. There are always dangers, everywhere we go. The dangers on this mountain, and in this cave are the obvious type. Violent and viscous creatures, bent on the destruction of your body, your physical life. But even in Absalom, or wherever you hail from, there are dangers that are far more subtle. Wolves in sheeps clothing, seeking to bend your ear and steal your heart, destroy your soul. It is your faith that you hold to, and the strength with which you hold it, that will save you from these unseen dangers. It is as I said, don't merely be knowledge seekers, be truth seekers. For that which you choose to place your faith in will determine your success or failure." Once again, Uori bows politely, and smiles.
"There is still a remnant of Aroden's truth in these walls. I can feel it, even if I do not care to listen to it's whispers. Can you?" The gillman smiles cryptically to the pathfinders.
So there really isn’t a good way to convey this information in the scenario without hitting the players over the head with the clue stick. I thought this would be the most appropriate, and hopefully still leave a little bit for you and your companions to figure out on your own. I wouldn’t want to tell you what to do, but if I don’t say something then you might not even realize there is a thing you could do… And we can’t have that!

As Uori speaks to her, something finally seems to click into place in Nella's mind. "Wait...Aroden's truth? I...even though it makes perfect sense, I never really looked at it that way before. But you're right, I place my faith in Lady Shelyn, the Eternal Rose...because I believe her teachings are the truth. And it's the same for anyone who places their faith in the gods."
"And if the truth of a dead god still lingers..." she continues slowly, in the manner of one reasoning their way through something, "then..." she snaps her fingers. "then maybe there's a way to tap into it!" She turns and looks excitedly at the others. "The carvings, it's something to do with the carvings we saw earlier, it has to be!"

Suddenly, Nbu T'ka seems interested in what is going on. He is eager to nod along with Nella. "Yes, yes! Tell me, Uori, do you know anything of how that might work? Uori? Are you paying attention to me? Oh, right. Nella, would you mind please *squawk* repeating what I say so that he may read your beak."
Nbu T'ka does not realize his slip until about an hour later.

![]() |

Shuo looks towards Nella and Nbu T'ka and even though he has some knowledge about the divine, it was more focused on the Tien aspects. He had a lot to learm listening to this two.
"Some of the symbols and drawings from before were to old for us to see... but someone with the tradition of worshiping this place might know about all of them!" He pauses for a moment.
"Honorable master Uori, could you tell us about those carvings?"

![]() |

Kajar listens to his companions, grasping at anything he might be able to add to the conversation.
"Well, you've identified the Thief, Farmer, Artist, and Shepherd aspects of Aroden," Kajar says.
"I know little of him beyond what snippets I heard from the crusaders and spies of my youth, unfortunately."
Kajar considers carefully Nella's reply, and briefly imagines he is the wind, like his own patron, Gozreh.
Master Uori, may I inspect the diorama of Absalom? That city is my new home, and I am fascinated to see the whole place at once, as if I were in flight on a clear day, not banging my heels on her cobblestones, shaded by the spires and towers."
Unless there's a Kn:Geography check involved, the best Kajar can do for a roll is an Int check, to aid another, I guess? and that's a +0...

GM_PapaSteve |

"Please do be respectful, but yes, you are free to do what you need in your search for truth." Uori bows politely in response to Kajar.

Rising up from the pool is a column of rock with steeply sloped sides and a flat top, as if someone had sawn off the top of a massive stalagmite. A miniature city carved from this same stone occupies nearly the entire surface. Tiny trinkets such as ancient coins, polished semiprecious stones, and ornately braided loops of string are scattered throughout the diorama, and pale cave frogs clamber atop it.
Luthor steps into the pool to take a close look at miniature Absolom.
Apart from the trinkets and frogs this is a pretty accurate depiction of the city.
He turns back to Uori so the gillman can see him speak.
"Do you and the other pilgrims look after these little froggy fellows or are they just here naturally?" with no knowledge of the natural world to speak of Luthor doesn't know if this is a stupid question or not.
As he lived in Absolom his whole life i think Luthor would very much be interested in the miniature city, so off he goes to investigate

GM_PapaSteve |

"The denziens of this cave, including these frogs, are here naturally. Perhaps they are drawn to the tranquility of this cave, and its abundant natural food supply," he says, indicating the centipedes that Nbu T'ka continues to eye. "My people do not care for the frogs, we do not come to the cave often enough to give them proper attention. This of course, isn't to say that we don't appreciate life in it's various forms." He finishes with a smile.
Both Luthor and Kajar take the gillman's approval and move out towards the miniature city. The water gets progressively deeper as they wade out, but is not too deep for them to approach the city.
Quick note in case it wasn't clear, the city is solid and sturdy enough that you can climb onto it. We are not in combat rounds, so I will allow more than one of you to occupy space on the 5' diameter circle. Review the clues about the carvings. There are several minor rituals that you can perform to gain the blessings of Aroden, tied to the guises of Aroden you saw carved in the previous room. Luthor is hot on the heels of one of them right now. And just a note to save time and questions, if one person performs one of the rituals, everyone gets the bonus.

GM_PapaSteve |

Almost forgot to answer Shuo's question
Uori is caught distracted by Shuo's question, once again staring at the cloak in Lissa's hands. He breaks his focus and looks at Shuo when the hunter indicates he would like to speak to him. Looking at his lips intently, he reads the words.
"Unfortunatly master Shuo, I do not know anything more that what you have already figured out yourselves, other than I know that there is information in those carvings that may help you unlock the fading blessings of Aroden here."

![]() |

Nbu T'ka continues to crunch on centipedes as he wanders around the miniature city. He notices Nella looking at him sideways. Oh dear, she must think I'm a terrible pig, eating all of these. Nbu T'ka places the last of his centipedes absentmindedly in the city.

![]() |

I apologize for this "do nothing" post, but haven't the foggiest idea on this one, and with Lissa not being very knowledgeable on the religious front, she is twice as lost.
Lissa steps back, watching the others riddle out this so-called "ritual" out.
Best to stay out of the way of those that know what is being talked about. Say.... wait a minute..
"Say, Uori... you said the danger outside and in this cave were obvious dangers... Are there monsters further in? " she finally asks during a pause in the other conversation.

![]() |

Kajar regards Lissa's question.
I'm with Lissa. What is it we are supposed to be doing here? The creeds of the gods are not my cup of ale...
Trying not to appear too ignorant, Kajar whispers to Luthor,
"Master Luthor, Absalom is your city. Is this model accurate, or is it an older depiction? I don't know what you've seen in the carvings of Aroden. I'm at a loss here. Is there anything you can tell me that would help discover this 'Truth' Uori references?"
I see what might be a solution, but Kajar is out of his wheelhouse for this one. Thus he turns to his fellow Pathfinders.

GM_PapaSteve |

When Nbu T'ka drops the chunks of half eaten centipede in the miniature diorama of Absalom, a brief glow envelops the party, and each feels suddenly more nimble, which brings about a small measure of peace of mind.
Nbu T'ka has just absent-mindedly completed the ritual tied to The Hunter (a carving you weren't able to decipher) but in doing so, has given each of you a +1 Dodge bonus to AC vs Charge Attacks. For your reference, had you been able to uncover The Hunter in the previous cave, I would have given you this information:
The Hunter is depicted slaying a giant serpentine creature and then parading a trophy through the city streets—a sign to all humanity that the wilds are safe to inhabit once the monsters are slain.
Nbu T'ka completed the ritual by dragging a slain serpentine creature through the city streets, which gave all of you the blessing. There are 4 more that you can complete, one for each of the guises of Aroden you were able to decipher in the previous cave. The hint is in the description of each one. I'll give you to tomorrow night and then we will move on with whatever bonuses you are able to get! Luthor and Nbu T'ka can feel free to jump on any of them they would like at your own discretion. If you still want to let others try to figure them out, just spoiler what you would do and I will count it for the group if no one else is able to get it.
I see what might be a solution, but Kajar is out of his wheelhouse for this one. Thus he turns to his fellow Pathfinders.
I know some people have differing feelings on this, trying to mimic their characters as best they can. In my opinion, if you as the player are smart enough to figure out a puzzle, don't penalize your character, or the others in your group because you happen to be playing a character with low INT who wouldn't be smart enough to solve it. This is a game, played by players who enjoy telling a story, and being a part of a story they have a stake in. If you think you know, just go for it :) No matter the situation. A character with a low wisdom score can still show courage in the face of fear, just because they would normally fail all will saves vs fear doesn't mean you can't roleplay 10 seconds of insane courage. :) It's your character, play how you want to play.

As the Nbu T'ka accidentally activated the ritual Luthor remembers the carvings from earlier.
"What if..." He tries to remember each carving as he tries to turn the problem over in his head.
"Could the carvings represent rituals to gain blessings from Aroden?"
He heads back down the passageway with his journal and starts to take notes on each of the carvings he recognises. In a couple of minutes he returns.
"Let us see if my knowledge of religious texts has a practical application!" he says with a laugh.
He takes his time to describe each carving in detail to see what his friends think of his idea.
"The Artist is depicted painting murals on the walls of impressive buildings, associated with Aroden having painted the city of Absalom with beautiful colors so that it might awe all who visited."
"The Farmer is depicted plowing four lines in a field, retelling Aroden’s prophecy that humankind would prepare the rocky earth for planting and over generations wear the pebbles down into fertile soil."
"The Shepherd is depicted herding animals out of a crowded city to the pastures beyond, just as Aroden blessed leaders with the foresight to direct people to the tasks and places that best suit them."
"The Thief is depicted stealing a gem from a shop while whispering a prayer, an allusion to a passage saying that larceny—though illegal—is a form of praise, for anything worth stealing is also worthy of praise for its craftsmanship."
A little long winded, but i think that at least puts all characters in the same place for working out the rituals.

![]() |

Sorry for not jumping in and describing more. I left it to the others and only Luthor described one (the thief) and I neglected to add to the discussion! I think we got carried away with other RP!
"Great descriptions Luthor! Hmmm... so we need to show our understanding of Aroden's teachings using the city... *squawk* what can we do?" Nbu T'ka seems oblivious to the fact he has accidentally triggered a ritual, "The Artist, eh? Can anyone paint? Maybe we could paint some of the city nicely like the artist is doing int he carving. I don't have any paint's though..." The tengu pulls his beak down all the way to his chest and thinks deeply.
"Farms don't exist in cities, but just outside of them. Maybe we could till the soil and sow some seeds. I don't have any seeds, though... and I don't particularly relish the thought of *squawk* going back to the forest to find some," Nbu T'ka pauses for a moment, "But I have no idea how we might shepherd animals out of the city. Does anyone have a familiar they could put inside and lead away from it? Or maybe we could find a wild animal here and *squawk* do the same."
Nbu T'ka turns to his companions to make sure the Gillman cannot see his face - in case he has learned to read beaks - and says, "For the thief... well, I guess we need to steal something from the city. I imagine we can't do so with permission, though, or it's just 'removing' not 'stealing'. Hmmm. If someone can distract Uori's attention, I'm sure one of us could nab something from the City... though it seems a shame to disturb it."
I think that'll do for clues from Nbu T'ka! Happy to ritualize and move on.

Sorry for the lack of posting; my work schedule has had me bounce from days to nights and back to days so I spent the majority of yesterday and last night catching up on sleep. Also all apologies for neglecting to describe more of the carvings out loud earlier - I think I got distracted by the other RP as well!
As a glow suddenly surrounds the party, Nella gasps with surprise and then laughs out loud, clapping her hands delightedly. "We were right! It doesn't seem like it was related to one of the carvings we were able to identify earlier, but you definitely activated some sort of blessing Nbu T'ka!"
While Luthor and Nbu share what they were able to piece together from earlier, she looks thoughtful. "I don't know much about farming or animals, but I do know a little something about the fine arts," she smiles. "I don't have any paints, but maybe ink and a writing utensil would be just as good? It can't hurt to try, at any rate." She glances over at Uori and lowers her voice. "As far as stealing goes...maybe someone can try nicking one of those trinkets or stones? I'm probably not quick enough, but I can help provide a distraction if need be. But first, let me see if my idea with the ink will work!
The priestess turns and carefully makes her way out to the carved city, climbing up to get a better look at it. She scans the diorama for a few moments until she spots a carved building that looks as though it might be a temple, wherein she takes out her quill and begins to carefully draw the first thing that comes to mind, a sunburst, on the side of it.
Craft: Painting (Untrained): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17

GM_PapaSteve |

As Nella puts the finishing touches on her sunburst, the pathfinders once again feel a brief flash of elation as The Artist ritual is completed.
Great Job! The Artist gives each of you a +1 to your perception to notice creatures.
In case I forgot to mention it, each of these bonuses last for 24 hours - in effect through the rest of this scenario.

"Hmm."
After listening to Luthor discuss the carvings, Nella triggering one of the rituals, and a look about the carving, Lissa smiles. "I think I see what's going on now. I wonder if this'll work."
And with that, she approaches the miniature city. Just before she steps onto the carving proper, she bends over, and drags her hand through the gravel, with her fingers spread apart and thumb tucked up against her hand. After that, (successful or not), she'll begin to try to catch the frogs climbing all over the carving in an attempt to remove them from it.

GM_PapaSteve |

Lissa drags four fingers through the soft pebbles at the shore of the pool, creating 4 furrows along the edge of the water. As before, the entire group feels all at once elated and relieved as Aroden's fading blessings fall upon them all.
That is The Farmer ritual! Well done. Everyone gets a +1 luck bonus on Fortitude saves vs Poison.
Climbing onto the small city, Lissa stands next to Luthor and they stare at the frogs Luthor was asking about earlier. She starts waving her hands at the stubborn creatures, trying to shoo them off of the pedestal.
Handle Animal, untrained: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
With surprising success, the oversized frogs begin hopping away from her, and leaping down into the water below. One stubborn Frog remains perched on top of the carving of Skyreach. Luthor stops his foot in the open grounds, yelling "BOO!"
Intimidate: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Which causes the frog to pee slightly before launching into the pool in one mighty leap.
For the fourth time, the companions feel a warmth in their souls as another of Aroden's blessings envelops them. Uori just smiles at the group in apparent approval, and amusement.
And that completes The Shepherd's ritual, granting all of you a +2 insight bonus on a single check made to perform the aid another action in the next 24 hours. Lissa had it with her untrained handle animal check. I just liked the idea of Luthor scaring the last frog off the pedestal.
1 more to go!!

Kajar's eyes widen, realizing that the of the Aspect of the Thief is the last Incarnation of Aroden left that they had identified.
"Well, try the hook-and-crook, Kajar, like the old days in Trunau's market. This might be your one chance."
With his mates gathered in and around the diorama, Kajar wants to try and palm one of the gems from the model.
No ranks in Sleight of Hand, could he use a Stealth check instead, with so much activity happening around the diorama, plus Uori's condition?

![]() |

Luthor also realises that the last ritual would involve a little thievery.
Well if someone is going to take an item Uori had best be looking th other way...
He climbs down from mini-Absolom and heads towards Uori.
"Excuse me Uori, would you check over my notes here and make sure that i have my facts correct? I'd hate to get the details wrong and report some incorrect details of these amazing carvings."

GM_PapaSteve |

Uori shuffles over to look at Luthor's sketches as requested, and nods politely as he looks at them.
"You are a skilled note taker, Luthor. I have no real knowledge of Aroden beyond my observations here, and my desire to learn more is... well... lacking significantly in comparison to you. By my estimation, your superiors will be rather pleased with your work."
Meanwhile, as Uori drones on, Kajar pockets a gem and non-chalantly hops off of the diorama, swimming back to the shore. After an uncomfortable minute in which his heart rate increases enough to feel it in his orcish ears, a feeling of confidence washes over Kajar, and the rest of the group.
You have successfully completed The Thief ritual, granting each of you a +1 circumstance bonus to AC for a single attack while you benefit from cover. Oddly specific, but there you have it. Well done everyone! Unless there are strenuous objections, I will move you on to the west as indicated by random roll in the discussion thread. I'll break the GM curtain enough to tell you that in the end, it really doesn't matter.
The group says their goodbyes to Uori, and he responds in kind, polite and appreciative of their care in his people's holy site. They make their way to the west corridor, pleased that the everpresent bioluminescent fungi continues to shed its soft, blue light wherever they go. Please indicate if you have taken any of the everburning torches from the previous room.
As the group walks, they constantly come across splits in the tunnels, or side passages. Stopping to discuss each time as they take careful notes of the cave's layout, they quickly find that each branch either leads back to the main tunnel, or is impassable. Some of the branches have been closed in by landslides, and others simply narrow down so small that passage through would be impossible with their current capabilities. After approximately 20 minutes of walking through the relatively comfortable cave corridor, they hear the soft tinkling of slow running water ahead.
The persistent glow of the bluish fungi dimly lights the way deeper below the Kortos Mounts. The tunnels broaden to reveal a shallow river that bisects an immense tunnel stretching to the north and south. To the east a small passage exits the chamber at a steep incline.
1d6 ⇒ 6
On the other side of the cavern, it appears as though several larger denziens have taken over this part of the cave system. Three very odd creatures can be seen sifting through the pebbles and dirt. The squat humanoids seem to be nearly all head, an unfortunate circumstance, considering how ugly its puffy blue face is. Weaving in between the three small, ugly creatures is another centipede, however this one is significantly larger in size than the tasty treats that Nbu T'ka enjoyed in the last cavern. In fact, Nbu T'ka is quite confident this one is large enough to eat him.
Knowledge (Nature) to learn more about these creatures.
I didn't have time to get the enemy tokens up on the map. I will get that as soon as I can, as well as the combat table. I know there isn't much you can do until I get that, so I will get it as quickly as possible for you!
Kajar initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Lissa initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Luthor initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Nbu T'ka initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Nella initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Shuo initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Bad Guy initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Edit: Hey, good news! You all get to go first. Feel free to make your action if you want, and don't be afraid to wait until I can get the map up. No surprise round. The creatures will be somewhat randomly placed in the upper northeastern portion of the cavern, and you are just coming out of the tunnel on the south west side. The river is approx. 1 foot deep and the water is not moving with any appreciable speed. This means it takes 2 squares of movement to pass through water, though it is not specifically treated as difficult terrain. (ie - you could charge through it)

GM_PapaSteve |

Even Better news!!! Tactical is updated - Combat table will be delayed until later tonight. But you are all up, so feel free to take your 1st round actions, and make those knowledge checks if you have them.

Nbu T'ka uses his tetsubo as a walking stick, so already has his weapon out...
Seeing his opportunity to shine here, Nbu T'ka wants to prove he's equally unafraid of the big centipede as he is of the smaller, more tasty (probably more tasty) ones. He pulls back on his iron-shod walking stick and has a quick glance Nella's way before rushing across the shallow stream and towards the many-legged monstrosity.
Nbu T'ka testsubo, charge: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 3 + 2 = 25
Crit confirm: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 3 + 2 = 15
Regular damage + crit damage: 1d10 + 4 + 3d10 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 4 + (1, 4, 7) + 12 = 33
AC 15 until next round.
Since I have the stats, I know certain things and can describe the following...
Nbu T'ka's weapon smashes the centipede, hard, upon its outer casing. The walking stick - as he calls it - sinks deep within is carapace. There is a small delay before the additional pressure on the creature's insides is too much for its shattered shell and it explodes outwards. Chunks of centipede fly outwards. Nbu T'ka, with mouth open as this happens, confirms to himself that the smaller variety of centipede is indeed tastier.

"Hum... what are these creatures?"
Knowledge (nature): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Even while he things what kind of creatures they are, Shuo steps right, prepares an arrow and lets it fly, aiming one of the blue creatures.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3

GM_PapaSteve |

Still won't be able to get a proper combat table up until tonight (if you guys even need it) but I can respond to this...
Nbu T'ka displays dashing speed and courage as he runs across the water and destroys the gigantic centi-buffet in one mighty swing of his walking stick.
Shuo lifts his bow in support of his avian companion, firing an arrow across the expanse. The arrow hits one of the creatures square in the shoulder, bouncing off. It screams and hisses at the group anyways as a small trickle of blood appears. It seems as though it didn't escape the arrow strike completely unscathed.
"Dituzu ordaindu horretarako!"

![]() |

Knowledge(nature): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
I assume that with that roll, I at least know what Shuo does.
Lissa winces as Nbu T'ka and Shuo quickly jump into action before an attempt at diplomacy could have been made. Then she recognizes the foes.
"Ah, These are trouble." And with that, she skitters upstream, then gathers her orb of water together, and lets the wave of water fly at the closest one.
Kinetic Blast,point blank: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 3 + 1 = 15
Kinetic Blast damage,point blank: 1d6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 1 = 6

GM_PapaSteve |

Lissa hesitates for a split second, and quickly wises up to the situation. With nary a thought to her string of previous struggles, she wills a blast of water at one of the little buggers. It's natural defenses are not strong enough to withstand the blast, and it quickly drops to the floor of the cave, unconscious and bleeding through its nose and ear.

Kajar draws his orc double-axe and follows Nbu T'ka's lead, charging across the stream, axe held high with both hands.
"GRAAAARGH!
Orc double axe, both hands: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 2 = 6
damage: 1d8 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 2 = 6
AC 15 until next turn
previewed. Dang.

"Trouble? But what are they?" Nella responds, staring at the little blue creatures with fascination before it finally registers in her mind just what the word 'trouble' means. As she begins to move forward, her jaw drops in awe as the huge centipede just...explodes...under the force of Nbu's charge. "Holy moly!" she gasps. "I'm glad you're on our side!"
She wades forward into the river and focuses her attention on the form of Nbu, calling upon the blessings of the Eternal Rose to grant her companion a temporary boon. "Keep it up guys!"
Using Blessing of the Faithful on Nbu; +2 sacred bonus on attack rolls, skill checks, ability checks, or saving throws or to AC until Nella's next turn.
