GM Odea's Short Adventure Playtest PBP (Inactive)

Game Master Odea

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I've written up a short adventure and am looking to playtest it with a couple of groups of players. I would like (but do not require) feedback at the end (even if it's just "That was cool!" or "You suck." I want to run the following groups:

1) Official Pathfinder pre-gens level 1 (group of 4-6)
2) Official Pathfinder pre-gens level 4 (group of 4-6)
3) PFS legal player-made characters level 1 (group of 4-6)* °
4) PFS legal player-made characters level 4 (group of 4-6)** °
*brand-spanking-new, so 150g and no wands!
**Wealth-by-level ~6000g, I'll make it 7500, but no single item with a price greater than 5000g.
°If you have a PFS character at this level (or who was at some point at this level) feel free to use that character (as they are/were at that level).

The pregens are available on Paizo's GM Resources site on the right side under "Free Downloads;" Core rulebook and Ultimate Combat pregens are allowed.

PFS character creation rules (generally) are in the Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play (a free download, currently v4.2) and on the Additional Resources page.

If you're interested in playing please post/PM me:
a) Days/times you are available and timezone (e.g. "Thursday evenings Eastern Time" or "Saturday 10/20 from 9:15:22am PST to 10:47:16am PST")

b) Whether you want to run a pregen or your own character (remember, this is just for fun/testing, it's not going to be a campaign)

c) The level you want to play at (i.e. 1 or 4)

d) If you're making your own character, a link to your stats/etc.

e) Whether you are willing/able to play using Roll20 (http://www.roll20.net) or insist on PBP.

And of course, if you have any questions/comments you're free to post those as well.

I will try to form a couple of groups (depending on interest, the times people are available, and whether people want PBP or Roll20).

Last notes:
I'm new to GMing via PBP (and to some extent via Roll20), so there may be some bumps. If playing over Roll20, I'd expect this adventure to run around an hour (but this is testing, so don't quote me on that! =p).

For PBP I really haven't done enough to estimate how long it will run. I ask players to be ready to post once per day (as that seems to be somewhat standard). I think I'm going to try using maps (I'll just make a Roll20 game and screenshot it or something) rather than combat-by-description.

I will do the PFS legal, level 4 character test. I have varying hours. I can only guarantee being home after 830 every day, but if you list a time and day when I can be around for that day for the next 2 weeks. I am actually a GM on roll20 so I know how it works already. If you have any questions shoot me a PM or ask here. I prefer roll20.

Thus far I have two players interested in the level 4 PFS legal test: Mr. Swagger, and a PM from Tirq. If I get two more together I'll try to set up a game time (or PBP if we can't all meet on Roll20 at the same time).

Still interested in getting groups for the other 3 as well, so PM me or post if you're interested.

Sczarni

I am very interested, and I would be willing to play as a PFS legal character I had and wish to remake/revive.

The story behind him is I made him, got him to lvl 4, then lost his character sheet.

Would a Half-Elf Rogue be able to join this team?

Absolutely. So far I've got 4 people interested, which is enough to make a group. I'll wait another day or two for more interest, and then we'll go with what we've got.

At that point I'll PM the 2 who sent me messages, and see if we can arrange a time to meet on Roll20. If not, I'll set up a PBP for this group here.

Thus far we have:
Half-elf Rogue
Divination Wizard/combat wizard (replied via PM)
Gunslinger (possibly the level 4 pregen?) (replied via PM)
Mr. Swagger (Not sure what he's running)

Okay looks like we're going to try and proceed with the 4 we have. Everyone please get your characters ready to go and let me know when you are set; Mr. Swagger & SinBlade06--what timezone are you two in (PM me if you don't want this public I suppose).

We have a range of timezones thus far, so I'm thinking we'll try to run around lunchtime Pacific Time (that's noon-ish PST, ~3 PM EST and 7 PM GMT). Once everyone tells me their character is ready we will pick a day.

Hi, Odea! Daron here, for Abandoned Arts.

Has there been any interest in a PBP? I'd love to help a fellow developer out with a little playtesting (and it might be an educational experience for me, too). I could post at least once a day (on weekdays), and I'd probably run a pregen for simplicity's sake - maybe a ranger? Besides, I have no experience with PFS character-building.

If you start up a PBP, I'm in with a pregen.

Daron Woodson
Abandoned Arts

Sorry GM Odea I missed your post. My timezone is EST.

3pm will work on my days off and on days like this when I go to work in the morning.

I don't know what character am running yet, but I will have an answer within 24 hours.

Reporting in. I thought the pdf for he gunslinger was on the paizo page, ban not seem to find it anymore. Does anybody know where to find it ?

found it!

I will try an oracle.

I will be switching to a cleric. She can easily take on the role of tank
(Crusader archetype w/ tower shield.)
I need to do a little work to get her up to level 4, but I have the pregen as an example, so as far as i'm concerned, I'm set.

Greetings, GM Odea,

This recruitment thread sounds fun, but confuses me. You mention Play-by-Post which usually means "throughout the week a few posts per day". And you ask for available days and times.

Would you please clarify, for myself and others? Are you wanting to do real-time chatting online, or a few posts per day?

Thanks!

Sir Egon what were you before? I only chose the oracle because we had no divine caster.

The gunslinger.

So now we have rogue, wizard, and a cleric. I am looking at a dwarf fighter or a magus(never played one). I expect to have a character complete tonight or tomorrow.

I would prefer to run this using Roll20 (an online map/dice system), however I am willing to run it as a PBP. I am also willing to run several groups. The dates/times available was for people/groups which wanted to play on Roll20.

Sczarni

WOW have I not been keeping track...

I'm in Mountain time, and I've been trying to get my character up, but other things have been pushed in so I didn't have time.

I'll get him running and let you know when he's done.

There may be a problem though.

I plan to move within the next month or so, and that may ruin the Roll20 bit. I'd still be able to do a PbP, so please keep me in mind!

I am behind also, but I did decide on a paladin.

I will try to get it done today. I do have a few PbP issues to resolve. I will also tell you, as someone that is using roll20, that it is using a voice system such as Skype might be the better choice.

Feel free to PM me.

Character in progress ETA-->1 hour. Well it is only the mechanics for now. The background story will come later.

Thanks for the reply, GM Odea.

(a, e) Play-by-Post. I take care of two boys (1 and 4 years old) so committing to a weekly time is difficult.

(b, d) Either. But since free time is precious I have a slight preference for a pregenerated PC, official or GM-provided. (Making PCs is fun, but I'd rather be playing the game!)

(c) No preference. Whatever you want play tested first.

Odea, what do you think of mr.Swagger's decision for a voice system ?

Sorry. I went to sleep.

I would vote for Skype, but I'm gonna be moving soon and my time will be taken up, so as much as it pains me, I vote PbP.

Skype is fine with me for a roll20 group; I've got it and have used it previously.

Looks like several people want to do a PBP for various reasons; I'm going to post what I believe is the list of PBP players and the Roll20 players:
PBP
Sinblade06
.....Half-Elf Rogue 4
davidvs
.....Any pregen (lvl 4)
Daron Woodson/Abandoned Arts

Mr. Swagger (EST after ~3PM = Noon PST = ~7-8PM GMT)
.....Human Paladin 4
Sir Egon D'Clausanne (GMT 6am-11 pm = 10pm-3pm PST = 1am-6pm EST)
.....Cleric 4 (based on pregen/use pregen)
-

Unknown
Tirq: PM'ed me once, not sure if he's still around/available/interested

I'll open this to the following for the people above:
Option (1)
Play 2 separate groups, one in PBP, one in Roll20, each group gets one additional pre-gen that will be controlled by the GM (like in PFS).

Option (2)
Everyone plays PBP as one big group (up to 6 players depending on who is still following this thread & interested).

Either way, please choose which pregen you want (for the players who want to run a pregen) and toss in your vote regarding the 2 options. I would suggest for those of you creating characters: don't spend a ton of time on background unless you plan to use the character elsewhere--remember this is a short-ish one-off adventure.

If you are doing the two groups if it is not to late, I have a 4th level Druid from society that I could use for PBP since I am in similar shoes as Sinblade if you do decide to spilt up. Give me a few and I can get her up.

You say that because I have a backstory, isn't it? (just kidding)

I'm good with either option, but I'd be in the PbP group if you did two groups.

The Exchange

Agh! I lost this forum. Now I've found it and would like to say that I'm still interested, and that I'd be interested in doing Either. Pick whatever for me, since I'm sure I'll fit in anywhere.

I present Ravagwen I am still working on making i pretty...and the animal companion.

Looks like there's enough interest to run 2 separate groups without me having to play pregens (probably). I'll create the discussion thread for the PBP group and PM each person the link, they can go there to discuss who's playing what pre-gen; if another person wants in on the PBP then I'll direct them there as well.

My after 3pm will vary from day to day. The latest I get home is 830pm, which is 530 pm PST I am assuming. Some days I am off by 1pm however which is 10am PST. Yeah I have a crazy schedule.

Shouldn't be too much of a problem, we really just have to schedule amongst the Roll20 players a time when we can all get on and play, then just meet up and do it.

The Exchange

I have my character made. Do you want me to send it to you via PM or should I put it in a spoiler?

Nelith is one of my aliases, I wanted to post as Egon, but had the wrong alias set. You can scrap Egon from the list.

@Tirq: Go ahead and put it in a spoiler, that way other players in your group can see what's available if they want to tweak their character choices.

@Sir Egon D'Clausanne: Are you removed entirely (remove both Nelith and Sir Egon), or are you saying "Just list one of them as they're the same person"?

Possessions amulet of natural armor +1; buckler (mithral); mithral shirt; outfit (traveler's); ring of protection +1; wand of magic missile; Arcane Bond (Su) You have selected to establish a powerful arcane bond with an object.

Armor Expert You have worn armor as long as you can remember, either as part of your training to become a knight's squire or simply because you were seeking to emulate a hero.

Bonded Object Objects that are the subject of an arcane bond must an amulet, ring, staff, wand, or weapon. These objects are always masterwork quality. Weapons acquired at 1st level are not made of any special material. If the object is an amulet or ring, it must be worn to have effect, while staves, wands, and weapons must be wielded. When attempting to cast a spell without your bonded object worn or in hand, you must make a concentration check or lose the spell (DC: 20 + the spell's level). A ring or amulet occupies the ring or neck slot accordingly.

Bonus Feat Humans select one extra feat at 1st level.

Cantrips You can prepare a number of cantrips, or 0-level spells, each day. These spells are cast like any other spell, but they are not expended when cast and may be used again. You can prepare a cantrip from a prohibited school, but it uses up two of your available slots.

Divination School You have chosen to specialize in divination spells.

Diviner's Fortune (Sp) When you activate this school power, you can touch any creature as a standard action to give it an insight bonus on all of its attack rolls, skill checks, ability checks, and saving throws equal to 2 for one round. You can use this ability 7 times per day.

Focused Mind Your childhood was either dominated by lessons of some sort (be they musical or academic) or by a horrible home life that encouraged your ability to block out distractions to focus on the immediate task at hand.

Forwarned (Su) You can always act in the surprise round, but you are still considered flat-footed until you take an action. In addition, you receive a +2 bonus on initiative rolls.

Illusion Opposition School You have chosen illusion spells as an opposition school. Preparing an illusion spell takes up two spell slots of the same level. You take a -4 penalty on any skill checks made when crafting a magic item that has an illusion spell as a prerequisite.

Necromancy Opposition School You have chosen necromancy spells as an opposition school. Preparing an necromancy spell takes up two spell slots of the same level. You take a -4 penalty on any skill checks made when crafting a magic item that has an necromancy spell as a prerequisite.

Prescience (Su) At the beginning of your turn, you may, as a free action, roll a single d20. At any point before your next turn, you may use the result of this roll as the result of any d20 roll you are required to make. If you do not use the d20 result before your next turn, it is lost. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Intelligence modifier.

Skilled Humans gain an additional skill rank at first level and one additional rank whenever they gain a level.

PBP's Discussions section is still missing.

Posted a new one, the old one may or may not be recoverable; it seems that the act of making it into a campaign opens a singularity in the servers and then the thread flies away. PMs with new thread info sent.

I did not get a PM.

I'll be watching this closely

Well, let's make use of this space to discuss days, dates & times for the Roll20 group. I'll be running (Or letting a player run) a pregen of the group's choosing (unless someone randomly jumps in here to join before the scheduled date/time).

I'm busy Monday and Tuesday nights Pacific time (so M, Tu ~17:00-00:00 PST/20:00-03:00EST/Tu, W 00:00-07:00GMT) The GMT on this will change in a week or two when daylight savings time ends/starts/whatever (it becomes 1-8GMT). I also tend to sleep at night (so ~00:00-08:00 PST/03:00-11:00 EST/08:00-16:00 GMT)

(Times above are 24 hour clock to reduce possible confusion with timezones and mornings/nights).

I think our best bet is probably around lunchtime for me, 15:00-17:00ish for Mr. Swagger and Tirq, and late evening (20:00-22:00ish) for Sir Egon, but I'm open to other proposals (missing a little sleep won't kill me). As far as days go, I'm open except for Mon./Tues., and Saturday Nov. 3 I'm busy.
