Senma Set-en-et |
Senma sees the group get suspicious and his hand immediately crackles with electricity. "Why are we getting ready to attack? Don't people come to this temple all the time?" he asks, uncertain of the need for violence.
GM NotEspi |
The four figures go through the alcoves one by one. With a stroke of luck, they check the northern ones first. They didn't seem to notice you. YET.
Some insignia used by the other group indicate they are members of the Harbingers. A group known for their obsession with powerful artifacts.
While the Pathfinder lodge collects artifacts for study and safekeeping, at least officially, Harbingers try to use them to trigger events prohecised to happen in the Age of Glory.
Map updated. I also moved some of your tokens based on your last action. For purposes of not getting flimflammed after an accidental reveal.
So what's the plan, boys and girls? Talk it out? Your call.

Knowledge, local: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 1

Ophelia will put one dagger back in her spring loaded wrist sheathe, then stealth up to behind a pillar.

Stealth: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Senma Set-en-et |
Senma looks to everyone acting strange, so he takes the lead. "Hello, misters and misses! I am Senma of the Pathfinder Society and these are my fellow recruits! Who might you be?" he asks jovially.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
GM NotEspi |
The four individuals immediately stop what they were doing and look at Senma, then look at each other for a moment. All of this in a moment of dead, awkward silence.
Finally, a heavily armed human steps forward. "Pathfinders? There were artifacts here yesterday. You wouldn't happen to have taken them, would you?"
The man draws steel as he speaks the last sentence, apparently planning on being as intimidating as possible.
Ophelia Feshal |
Ophelia activates her spring loaded wrist sheathe to draw the second dagger again, but remains hidden behind the pillar.
Senma Set-en-et |
The undine man loosens his rucksack before swinging it forward and dumping the contents onto the ground. As a spare set of billowy pants, a sunrod, a few trail rations and a heavy blanket tumble to the ground. "Aye, I have a few artifacts! These pants were made by my mother before I left to join the Society!" he says completely seriously.
"The blanket belonged to my teacher in the mountains. He was a small man but he could move the very earth with just a thought." he says proudly.
"The sunrod and the food are not artifacts though..." he says, sad at this prospect.
Ophelia Feshal |
Ophelia rolls her eyes, but remains silent behind the pillar. If the others can talk their way out of this, then we'll be on our way. Otherwise, she's ready for a fight.
Feza Savard |
Feza remains where she's standing, quietly listening for any sounds of casting or increased hostility...
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
GM NotEspi |
When Senma spills the convent of his backpack, the man with the blade in his hand looks over them, then sighs. "Wiseguy, huh? As to you, birdman... We were here looking for something, with the apparent intention of theft. But for now, killing some pathfinders will have to do. Get'em, ladies!"

Senma shrugs. "Well, at least we gave you a chance, Mister! Don't say we didn't when you go cry to your mommies!" he says, still quite chipper.
With a surprising quickness (at least to the enemy), Senma's hands spark and he thrusts both forward, sending an arc of lightning at the closest Harbinger.
Electric Blast - Touch Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Ophelia Feshal |
Ophelia comes out of hiding and stabs the closest enemy with a dagger, assuming he's still standing after Senma's attack. If that one's already down, then she'll instead throw a dagger at one of them in Plokkis's alcove (same rolls, but subtract -4 on the attack for cover).

Senma was that with PBS in the calculation? Because you missed by one vs touch if it was.
Ophelia jabs at the armored man with her dagger. He screams in surprise and pain as the blade manages to find a way through the chainshirt.

Moved Eldak 2x30 ft.
The Harbingers move in to help their leader.
Two figures emerge from Plokkis' tomb. One of them drawing a large club with both hands as it moves towards Ophelia, then immediately swinging in her direction. He wants to bring the hurt and slams the thing into her ribcage. Did something just crack? From behind him, a half-elf woman steps out of the tomb's shadow. She recites an incantation and a beam of cold energy pours from her palms aimed at Ophelia. The ray goes wide, however, and ends up chilling a column on the other side of the room. Seeing the brute dealing with Ophelia, the leader decides to go toe-to-toe with Feza.
"You've brought fists to a swordfight? Bad decision.", says the chainail-clad man as he swings at the Tengu. He swings, but it seems he will have to do better than that. Even with Feza unarmed. As all this transpires, the dwarf in Demuren's tomb recites an incantation. then slowly starts moving towards his companions.
Throughout all of this, Baied seems to remain unnoticed.

Ophelia obviously felt the great club hit her, but doesn't seem to care, despite looking very damaged.
She attacks the one she's flanking with Feza with her first dagger.

damage: 1d4 + 2 + 1d8 ⇒ (4) + 2 + (7) = 13
If that knocks him down, then she turns her attention to the one with the club. Otherwise, she hits the leader again. Take out the +2 to hit and +1d8 damage if it's not the flanked guy.
attack vs flanked: 1d20 + 4 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 4 - 2 + 2 = 5

Baied performs a minor ritual and the air starts shimmering around her. Meanwhile, Ophelia finds another soft spot in the swordsman's armor. This time he falls to the ground, staining the white marble with a crimson pool. She swiftly turns around to slash at the obvious muscle of the group, but her aim is off due to pain. She merely latches at the air.

Feza is not unarmed, she had a whip out. In addition, Tengu have a natural weapon in the form of a beak, so the unarmed aspect isn't entirely accurate.. :)
Being relatively untrained in drawing her weapons, though, she makes a bit of noise as she pulls out her shield and places it on her arm. The whip makes a signature *crack* as she pulls it out as well which sharp ears couldn't possibly miss.
The inquisitor of Calistria moves again to provide Opheilia support, and attempts to trip the one with the club.

Senma's electricity fizzles once more in his hand as he tries to conjure more power, but the undine looks at his hand oddly. "They are stopping me somehow!"

My bad. Every time I see "natural weapon" on PC's, I just assume fists/unarmed. Also, that trip attempts is a no-go.
Feza's whip cracks through the air, but the brute is heavier than she expected. Maybe next time, after reconsidering his weight.

Yeah I saw. You posted when I was checking the thread and writing my next post. Didn't notice it until way too late.
Moved Eldak.
And just like that, the two Habingers drop to the ground. Kaa's and Eldak's attacks are very much efficient.
Seeing his friends on the ground, the man with the club considers his options. He drops his weapon to the floor, and quietly waits for your mercy ... or a killing blow.
Combat over. Also, scenario over. I'll post a debrief and send you sheets later today. Hopefully. Running a game on Saturday, so if it's not today, Sunday at best.
Ophelia Feshal |
Ophelia doesn't put away her daggers. She watches the man who dropped the club and waits for the rest of the team to accept his surrender before taking any action.

"Even the misguided deserve a chance at vengeance." is all she offers if she's questioned on her actions.
Thank you for running this!

I'm glad you didn't expected me to turn the tide of the battle. I have little worth as a fighter. I can heal someone, if that would help.
Looking at the last (and now clubless) outlaw
Why did you attack us? What were you seeking here?
Feza Savard |
"Might I recommend the Temple of the Savored Sting? These individuals will have a reason to live, now."
Feza will offer to help, even.
"Of course, settling up with local authorities might be required, too, but that's neither here nor there, is it?"
GM NotEspi |
The man nods, but remains quiet. He just picks up his companions, lumbers towards the stairs, and out of sight. Given the bruises on Ophelia's ribs, she's not really surprised he managed to do that.
Moments later, the party goes back into the cave to pick up whatever boxes with documents they can. A minute and a few sets of stairs after that - A quick look outside shows that the Harbinger and his 3 friends were not stopped at the entrance. Lucky for you, Janira must be keeping the guarding acolyte quite busy. You simply walk out of the Shrine without problems.
You have to walk a few blocks, but finally you meet old man Dreng in the Lodge. Despite the fact that his assignment must have been tiresome, his eyes open wide when you present the located documents and he starts shuffling through them with interest. His assistant is sent to fetch Shaine to organise and store the lot.
"Good job, recruits! We'll go make sure there's no more of these in the Shrine of the Failed. Just in case. I hope you don't mind."
He walks around his desk so that it does not divide him and the party and offers each of you an individual handshake.
"I believe your status as recruits will be merely a formality from now on. Surely you'll become fully-fledged Pathfinders in no time."
