Re: Where Dris and Bingo are heading
In my understanding, the three sleeping guys aren't actually "down" anywhere. Our map is a map of the upper floor, right?
The "room" where the bandits are sleeping is (more or less) on the same level as the battlements/towers. On the first picture we got of the fort, you can also see on the small lateral picture, that the towers aren't higher than the center ruin.
So, from your position, you actually have to go UP (to get over the wall of the center ruin), then down again, and then you're back on the same level.
Now, why am I posting this?
The reason is that "Meet you there" might not be that easy to achieve. The, let's say, not-so-stealth-friendly-armored people, can't climb over the wall like Mornaura because they'll probably make a lot of noise.
They will probably head down the stairs and along that side of the building.
But, firstly, we don't know yet if there's an entrance on that side - on our map it doesn't look like it - so they might have to go all the way around and past the tower on the other side, and secondly, even if there is an entrance into the center building, they're down on the ground floor - we don't know what's going on down there yet, and they'll need to find a way up again.
All that without making too much noise.
PS: I don't want to offend anyone or start a discussion. Just want to make sure we're all on the same page about the current wheres and whats of our situation. :)
PPS: @Dris: Sadly, the message spell targets only one creature per level (spell targets are chosen when you finish casting the spell and can't be changed later on). Hence Mornaura didn't know about the guard in the other tower until Bingo told her, and doesn't know about your current plans. I meant to add that Mornaura can see Dris and Bingo moving in and that she'll whisper to you anyway, but actually she can't - low-light-vision doesn't help to pierce your darkness SLA. ^^

![]() |

GM Nel,
A 3-D description of what is on what levels would be excellent. And what Dris can see...120' darkvision.
@Mornie-- If you wanna get into nitty gritty details, then Dris didn't move for 3 rounds, waiting for Bingo to catch up and move into position. She had plenty of time to cast message over and over again and let everyone know what she and Bingo were and what they were doing. I was just waiting for a response from Bingo to let you know. If you want to take it farther and say she didn't have line of sight, she could bounce up several feet, get line of sight, message, and drift down again, all with time to spare before Bingo got into position.
And she had already tagged Bingo and Kaeso before moving North herself.
It would help me hear your "corrections" better, if you could phrase things in the form of questions to GM Nel-- and letting him decide, rather then presuming what his response will be.

Mornaura |

I'm "presuming" that we're playing along the RAW as long as Nel doesn't say anything else, that the map is correct as long as Nel doesn't say anything else, and that things that have been described once don't change as long as Nel doesn't say anything else. That too much?
Some time ago, you explicitly told me I shouldn't assume Dris doing anything - that's what I've been trying to do. Now you want me to assume that she repeatedly casted a spell while being close enough to a guard who could've heard her...?
PS: I didn't correct you, I just explained why Mornaura won't react.

![]() |

GM Nel, how do you want to handle Bingo's absence?
Could you NPC him until the end of this battle?
I'm not sure if he's checking in again, but it might be nice continuity for his character, cuz avenging his family and getting rid of bandits was his thing. So it makes sense that he'd leave after the bandits are handled. Or after this battle we could have him in the background in an "administrative position."
If he checks in, maybe he'd let us know if that's okay.
Ok, ok, and selfishly I don't want Dris to be alone at this end of the fort.
That sounds fine, Dris. You could even have someone from Razmiran come along to finish what they started. Unfortunately, Ionnia, the only way to get better from kidney failure is to get a new kidney. I've already been waiting 2 1/2 years. It will probably be another year or two before I get to the head of the line. High demand, low supply. :(

![]() |

Hey Bingi, it'll probably work for you to take on one of the Kingdom roles, and still be around. And if your schedule does lighten from time to time, I think we'd all love you to jump in occasionally.
@Mornie:
I think it's only one Trip attempt (on the Bite attack), isn't it?
Yes, that's correct. Was going to mention last time but forgot
*This* is just fine. It's courteous. It's respectful. You waited for a ruling from GM Nel. This is the method that will actually be most effective if you think I'm running into a rules snafu.
The wall of words earlier had a presumptive and disrespectful tone. I think there are half a dozen ways by RAW, I could have messaged the remaining party. If you had asked GM Nel a question like, "Hey, is X going to work?" and then waited for a reply, I woulda been cool with it. But this method... I'm going to ignore.
If you think we're seeing things differently-- then put it in the form a question to GM Nel, and wait for his answer. That feels respectful and courteous, is what I'm saying.

Mornaura |

@Dris:
Oh well, if it helps you stop feeling offended by everything I write because you don't like the tone you're reading into it, I'll try to phrase any further remarks regarding something you write as questions to Nel.
In the mean time, could you please try to do some of the following things?
1.) Stop forgetting that English is a foreign language for me - I've said multiple times that I don't mean to sound offensive, and that you're free to ask if something is unclear.
2.) Read my entire post instead of picking parts out of it.
My "wall of words earlier had a presumptive and disrespectful tone"? See the PS of the post you're referring to: "I don't want to offend anyone or start a discussion. [...]" I've merely been posting my grasp of the situation, and the tactical considerations that seemed to result from that. I didn't say anything like "don't do that" or even "it's totally stupid to do that".
3.) Stop feeling offended by everything I write because you don't like the tone you're reading into it.
---
Really Mornie? Snarking at Ionnia all night for making noise, and then yelling across the entire fort, instead of waiting for Norn or Kaeso to tell you where we are? Yeesh. Usually you're smarter than that.
Seriously, Dris?
Complaining about my posts supposedly lacking respect and courtesy, two minutes after you post that? oOI posted the explicitly whispered question when it seemed like Dris wanted to levitate (I'm going to quote myself here) "over the wall and down towards the sleeping bandits" more or less directly in front of Mornaura. Of course she wouldn't have tried to contact Dris on the way she took now... She couldn't even, because she couldn't see anything - there isn't even a line of sight to the sphere levitating out of the tower and down to the ground.
Now, even if we were to ignore all that, there still remains one issue: whispering equals yelling now?
Whispering, the very same thing Dris has been doing all night to feed the Message spell, much of it while being within spitting distance of a bandit (and definitely more quiet than the supposed half a dozen castings of the spell in between) equals yelling now?
---
PS: Just because there might be half a dozen ways by RAW that someone could've done something doesn't mean they can just state that they did something they haven't mentioned before, does it? Nel? ^^

![]() |

That's fine. I've got a thing this weekend as well. (Silent meditation retreat. Technically I'm not talking if I'm PbPing. But that's a very RAW vs RAI interpretation of the retreat guidelines.) I'll get my post in just in case you have a little time for the person after me...

Have fun at GenCon!
I haven't been myself since 1981-1987. Got to playtest AD&D with Gary Gygax back in the day!
Of course I lived in the very southern tip of Indiana at the time, and we had to drive to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Oh, how jealous am I of my friends who now only have to drive 2 hours to get to GenCon!
Well, have loads of fun!

GM Nel |

It was! I got to meet and really get to know a lot more people that I did last year. Maybe I was more comfortable this time. My roommates were all awesome (Paizo was putting us up at the hotel) and I had an awesome time.
The sheer amount of space for Pathfinder and PFS was gigantic. There was an obvious shift on this. The WotC booth was tiny, and all they were doing were small demos of D&D Next. Paizo had a very large store in the exhibitor's hall, seminars around the con for GMs, and the PFS section was the largest single room (outside the exhibitor and dealer rooms) of the whole con.
I was signed up to GM 8 slots of PFS, of which only 5 made, so I got to play a bit more than it was expected. I won one of the charity auctions, which was neat! I had never done an auction before (outside like.... ebay). We seated around 100 tables of PFS every slot, including the 8AM slots. It was pretty crazy but fun.
Indy is also a nice city.
I get to do this all over again in 2 weeks at Dragon Con lol

![]() |

Yeah, I'd really love to have him around about now. This would be a good chance for him to roleplay his backstory and bandit hate. Bingo, if you're peeking in... drop on by!
I was going to ask if we need another martial type to team up with you, Kaeso. Let's see if we get Norn back for sure. Then we can look at whether or not we need another martial character or skill monkey.

Mornaura |

Well, I think we don't necessarily need that much of a skill monkey.
We got the knowledges, spellcraft, perception, survival/tracking, heal, sense motive, handle animal and charisma-stuff pretty well covered already, and we got spells to help out with stealth.
My recommendation would be to search for someone who can disable traps - the rest can be left up to the new applicant.

So lets start with a wish list:
Who wants what?
Dris/Purrcy would like the amulet of natural armor.

Mornaura |

Mornaura would like the ring of protection or the amulet of natural armor.
I'd say that the mass of small coins, jewelry and trade goods can be used to compensate Restov for the material component cost of Raise Dead, if needed - as the required diamond is worth 5,000 gp and the promised 6 masterwork weapons only 1800ish gp.
The trade goods (and misc adventuring gear) might also come in handy later - when we want to develop our mine.

Lady Ionnia Orlovsky |

Dovan has:
magical rapier
mwk chain shirt
turquoise earrings (130gp)
28gp
Auchs, upstairs, has:
2 magical potions
1 magical potion
magical club
children's toy collection (45gp)
Don't forget these
Were this in the total?
With this stuff I'll take the Magical Club and the children's toys, as I have a child in character.
Otherwise I am fine with getting the Raise Dead Scroll to raise Norn and than use alot of the stuff to set up shop here.

![]() |

Ah thanks Ionnia. GM Nel posted those earlier and I overlooked them. Some included in his last list and some not. So I'll add them now.
And Kaeso, thanks for remembering the river ghoul wanting the stag lords body before opening up the river. And giving a shiny weapon, which Kaeso might just like too, eh? ;)
GM Nel if you'd allow a bit of a retcon... Dris will put her plea for Norn in the form of a letter for Kreston to take to the powers that be in Restov.
The letter will speak about Norn being the most honorable among us, and how they could have no more loyal ally, etc...
Hoping to get it for less than 5000 gp, cuz the loots been slow a 'comin until now. Hoping the 30 diplomacy roll carries over. (please!)
Or maybe you'd like to mix it up a little and have Norn come back as a kobold? Could be fun GM Nel. (I was kinda hoping Bingo would channel Norn there for us.)
And here's the updated list with things Ionnia remembered:
On his person, Stag Lord had:

Mornaura |

Well, it's not like we had trouble affording Raise Dead.
Hell, with all that loot, we could even buy a Resurrection for Norn, and Mornaura would gladly do that.
If all other options fail, Reincarnate via crafting a Salve of the Second Chance costs, for reasons unknown to me, mere 800 gp.

![]() |

Let's see what GM Nel responds to various things, before yelling "wow, we're rolling in dough!" shall we?
Even if we sold everything here; And even if Restov accepts Dris' plea for a raise dead scroll; Dris will still only be somewhere around 2/3 WPL. Which is especially painful with a second mouth to equip.
(My PFS characters of the same level each have 2-3x Dris' wealth. And PFS games are extremely frugal.)
I will do that for Norn if I have to. But please don't give GM Nel the idea we have a lot of money. We really don't.
Starting up a Kingdom is expensive. Very expensive. And we will need to be frugal with every copper piece.
Let GM Nel enjoy DragonCon. I'm sure we'll hear back on his plans for Norn, and Kingdom starting when he gets back.

GM Nel |

Back from Dragoncon! And with that con season should be over for me.
Kingmaker book 1 is notoriously treasure-light. Patience, patience. Trade goods, jewelry and art objects are all 100% value. I did adjust treasure for 6 players, but it may still be a bit short.
There are also more treasure-opportunities coming.
As for raising Norn, that is still the decision of the party. Either way, with this break in timeline, I see it as a good chance to tighten down to a core 4 players instead of finding the need to re-recruit a 5th. On Norn's end, he would become a NPC (now prominent, to be determined!) in book 2.

![]() |

multiclassing with bard would suit your character nicely.
on the other hand, general thinking is that it sets back your spellcasting levels kind of painfully. unless you have a very specific reason for doing so.
and... we very rarely run into traps. kingmaker doesn't put us into underground dungeons much at all.
and... to my recollection... Bingo never found a trap or a secret door.
and...mikmek could probably serve as our rogue if we do have need of one.
do what you think suits your character best. i don't think the party truly needs a rogue.
I'm kind of happy to be down to four PCs. It may speed up play a bit.
and bingo and norn can still be with us in the leadership positions, which is kewl.
~~~
I think we're in agreement that we all want Norn back. I just want to see what Restov says to Dris' plea, before deciding if we do it *now* or *soon*
![]() |
Welcome back GM Nel, I hope Dragoncon was fun!
~~~
By sending Kreston, Mikmek, and Akiros all to Olegs... I get that you are trying to hurry us along to there for the next chapter in our adventure. Yay!
I think we're still trying to tie up a few loose ends tho.
Its ok with me if we want to play things out in detail, or just get them done as efficiently as possible. Either one works for me.
Here are items for our checklist (that I can think of):
1. Identify remaining items:
Stag Lord's helm
Auchs' club for Ionnia
Mundane items-- was the price you gave us-- original value or resale price?
2. Stag Lord's body to River Ghoul
As Kaeso reminded us we have to go notify him (and collect Kaeso's reward!)
3. Get the Fangberries for Bokken
4. Pass judgement on the Druid.
5. Dris asked Bingo and Akiros to stay and keep an eye on the fort, and also deal with returning bandits (give em the repent or die option). (I know, I know, you want us to go to Oleg's. We're going, we're going. But Dris already asked Akiros to stay and keep an eye on the Fort.)
6. Dris wants to take Norn (and the unicorn) to Erastil's temple. Even if the one-in-a-million shot of the pool doesn't help them, at least Jhod could perform the gentle repose every day instead of Ionnia. And naughty, naughty Ionnia, not wanted to return Norn to the temple of his goodly god!
So for the most part I agree with Mornie about the path back. It will take Kreston a couple of weeks to get to Restov and back to Oleg's.
So my proposal is
1. remaining stuff identified
2. decide what to do with the druid
3. leave Akiros and Bingo here as arbiters
4. take the stag lord's body to the ghoul
5. get the unexplored hex to the west of that (fangberries?)
6. get unicorn
7. take unicorn and Norn to temple
8. go to Oleg's
other comments? ideas?

Kaeso the Human Fighter |

Mornaura would like the ring of protection or the amulet of natural armor.
I'd say that the mass of small coins, jewelry and trade goods can be used to compensate Restov for the material component cost of Raise Dead, if needed - as the required diamond is worth 5,000 gp and the promised 6 masterwork weapons only 1800ish gp.
The trade goods (and misc adventuring gear) might also come in handy later - when we want to develop our mine.
I could use the mwk chain shirt, the longsword +1, the Composite Bow +1 (since I took Deadly Aim this level), and perhaps a cure serious wounds potion or two. I'd like the human bane arrow. Bingo should have the rapier, even though he's NPCing now. It's what Kaeso would do.
As for plans, I'm indifferent as long as we take care of the river. In character, Kaeso really wants Norn back, so is willing to do whatever it takes.
What's the Stag Lord's helmet do?

Lady Ionnia Orlovsky |

I think if Norn isn't granted a resurrection or a raise dead, reincarnation is always fun....as long as you don't get whammied with an animal or something too weird.
I think we should maybe take the Stag Lords fort as our base of operations? and if we can't raise Norn...should we immortalize him in stone some where?

GM Nel |

What's the Stag Lord's helmet do?
After a day or two of spellcrafting, you can figure it out:
Stag Helm
This striking helmet is crafted to resemble the skull of a mighty stag. Although made from bone, the antlers and helm are as strong as metal.
When worn, the helm greatly enhances eyesight and hearing, granting a +2 competence bonus on Perception checks.
In addition, once per day the helm may be called upon to enhance any ranged attack made by the wearer to make an insightful shot. Activating this ability is a free action, and once activated, your next ranged attack against a target within 30 feet is made as if that target were flat-footed against you—this allows a rogue to gain the benefit of sneak attack with this shot. If you don’t make a ranged attack within 1 round of activating this power, the insight fades and is wasted for that day.
A worshiper of Erastil who wears this helm may utilize the insightful shot ability up to 3 times per day.
Aura faint divination; CL 5th
Slot head; Price 3,500 gp; Weight 3 lbs.

Mornaura |

I think if Norn isn't granted a resurrection or a raise dead, reincarnation is always fun....as long as you don't get whammied with an animal or something too weird.
I think we should maybe take the Stag Lords fort as our base of operations? and if we can't raise Norn...should we immortalize him in stone some where?
Well, the worst that can happen to him is becoming a goblin... :D
Regarding the fort, well... I don't want to base a future kingdom on this ruined bandit fort.
Ionnia, I know you didn't really say that, so please take no offense.
But I guess once we start using it as an operation base, and probably start dumping resources into it, someone might want to keep using it as our foundation stone.
And as I've thought about this for quite a while, I'd like to voice my opinion before we're too deep down the rabbit hole.
Here are my reasons why I don't want to use the fort:
1.) It's a ruin that can collapse anytime.
I don't know the amount of work and money it might take us to even overhaul it, but I'd say we're better off investing in a Lyre of Building and building a real stronghold.
2.) Even if it were in good shape, it still wouldn't be a great fort anyway - it's small, badly layouted, and in a strategically suboptimal place.
3.) It's a bandit fort, that has been the source of grief for these lands for quite a while, feeding on blood and gold of the people like a parasite. If that doesn't scream "bad karma", what else does?
4.) Oh, right, this reason does, too: it's sitting right on top of a mass grave with gods-may-know-how-many undead in it, who're just waiting for someone to step on the wrong stone or plow their field too deep, not to mention excavation work for cellars and fundaments.
5.) If you want to have a metagame reason in addition: I've tried hard not to spoiler myself too much in the forums, but if there's one thing that I feel like you hear from almost every Kingmaker group, it's that they took the fort as a basis for their city and kingdom - which imo makes it a really really boring choice.
So honestly, I'd rather burn and smash the place down and place a memorial on top of it, labeled "bad people will get crushed like this place". ;)
And then we search us a nice spot to give our future kingdom a fresh, clean start, without any inherited liabilities.
PS: We will get Norn back. :) Be confident.

![]() |

I don't want to get too far ahead of GM Nel here.
It looks like we'll start the Kingdom Building phase once we meet Kreston back at Oleg's.
* I haven't played since Ultimate Campaign came out.
* GM Nel may have his own houserules.
* I don't know how much of the building values of things he wants us to know.
So metagame I'll speak only in very general terms.
* My previous group was very happy setting up at the Fort.
* And ruins are very, very valuable. They give something to build on and save building costs. A lot.
In game reasons for strongly considering the Fort:
(Ever played Civilization?)
* It's in a very defensible position, up on a hill. On the non-forest side it has a good view of the countryside.
* It's surrounded by Rivers. Important for trade, travel and irrigation.
* It's surrounded by Farmland. Can't begin to say how important farmland is.
* +/- Depending how you look at it... it's farther from Restov and its political machinations.
* +/- Depending on how you look at it... it's closer to unexplored territories we're still going to want to look at.
But let's wait to really discuss, until GM Nel gives us the parameters we're going to be using.

* I don't see a MW chain shirt. Do you mean the +1 leather armor?
* In game-- Norn is a Divine Hunter of Erastil, specializing in bow, so he should absolutely have the composite longbow. But... we haven't raised him yet. And maybe he'll feel that raising him was already his share of the treasure. Same thing with the Helm.
KAESO/IONNIA
* Kaeso, if you're upgrading your armor, are you replacing something that Ionnia might be able to use?
* Or maybe the +1 leather armor would be good for her?
EVERYONE
* We've got an in-game vs ooc quandry:
Are we giving Bingo a rapier?
Are we giving Norn the bow or the Helm?
Are we giving them a share of treasure?
~~~
Later on, I'll ask if we think its fair to give characters who receive less loot more cash. We've got a few things to find out about Norn and Kingdom building before we make final distributions. So just putting the question out there.
My other suggestion for setting up shop is the place where we fought the Taztlwyrms? Or possibly build anew which would be super expensive! If not I would love to have one of them as a possible Church??
Though it all depends on costs.Though, I think also that in character I will bring my characters daughter and have her here as well.
One of what?
Building a temple to Shelyn is right in character for you. And bringing your daughter would be a nice touch.
Each of our characters will probably want *something* built. Stables for Kaeso, a Casters Tower for me and Mornie, etc. And we'll have things that absolutely must be built to keep our people safe, healthy, and happy. EDIT... and Prosperous! Very important to keep them prosperous!
So... once we get to that point, we'll discuss what order we should build things in. But eventually we should be able to get everyone their hearts desire.
Just getting the ball rolling Dris.
First and foremost if a Base of Operations. Next is encouraging the people and getting them to join our land. Oh a name is always good too.
We have currently three major areas to build from. The old Fort, the castle ruins we defeated the Tazlwryms at and Olegs. I prefer the fort as it is defensible and well fortified. If not we should make it temporary before we go and secure a better sight.
