Pushing open the door, you peer into what might once have been a study. A large wing-backed chair faces a small yet elegant writing desk set into the south end of the room. On the west wall stands a bookcase containing several leather-bound volumes and bundles of large scrolls. A matching bookcase, now face down on the floor in the centre of the room, looks like it once faced its twin. Dust patterns on the floor suggest that this toppling occurred very recently.

Wow! Those are pathetic!
We should decide on a new marching order(s), now that we have different characters. Don't forget Sir Rollynd! :) He's a front line kind of guy.

For the kinds of exploratory scenarios, it's fine if you want to move your token around and post new maps, but make sure you indicate in text what the purpose of your movement is, and where you go, as the map doesn't indicate the path taken. Unless you specify otherwise, I'll always assume you walked a straight path from your starting point to your end point.
Ty Purgest |
Ty ignores the scrolls and bookshelves and immediately heads over to the door in the northwest corner of the room to listen for any noises on the other side.

then it is perhaps something we can handle. Lets us see.

Ty moves forward and slowly lifts the bookcase. The scratching and tapping sounds stop as soon as he starts to move it. A few breathless seconds pass with nothing happening.
Then, with a screech, a tiny, horned, winged creature comes tearing out from under the bookcase to attack. At the same time, another similar creature leaps up on the back of the chair to the south. Both look crazed and violent.

that question threw me, and I don't remember, so 2str+1ranged increase+2point blank+1inspire, so yes, the attack did not, so should be a 28 to hit, not that I really think that makes a difference lol.

They have 11hp, hence why I asked.
As the creature emmerges from beneath the bookcase, Thanephos begins to inspire courage, and Daniel puts an arrow through the creature's head, ending its insanity and its existence. Rhylellia runs her target through, but it hangs on to its spark of arcane life and attempts to tear into her. Rhylellua gets an AoO as it has to move into her space.
Rhyl AoO: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
She succeeds in skewering the creature as it rushes her, and it drops inert to the floor.
Combat over.

Rhylellia glaces about the room.

Wow! You guys suck with the Perception rolls! Fortunately, you have plenty of time and don't actually need to roll any checks to find what you can on these shelves.
The bookcase still standing contains journals and bundles of maps. Opening some of the journals, you see that many of the entries have faded beyond legibility, but some of the more recent entries can be deciphered. Reading through, you learn that the journals and study belonged to a wizard, who, along with his hommunculi and other constructs, were instrumental in the raid on the Seventh Church that brought out the Cloak of the Inheritor, along with other relics and treasures. One entry, written in an angry hand that has torn the paper, comments that somebody named Kreel had claimed the cloak for himself, rather than smuggling it back to Westcrown, as per the original plan. This last entry suggests that the wizard himself teleported back there, to "go over his infernal head before I lop it off his infernal shoulders!"
The bundles of maps are of Absalom and the island of Kortos, annotated with defenses and troop deployments. They depict the stealthy invasion of Absalom with the intention of raiding the Seventh Church.
Lifting the fallen bookcase, you find several texts on magic item and construct construction. The books are in decent shape and would be worth at least several hundred gold pieces, depending on the buyer. Also, reading them would grant enough knowledge for the reader to take the Craft Wondrous Item or Craft Construct feats, once at the appropriate level.
Sir Rollynd finds a locked drawer in the desk against the south wall.
Rhylellia Carilyss Boyce |
"I shall try." Rhylellia says walking over to the lock.
She studies the lock. looking for traps

Rhylellia's initial attempts are unsuccessful, though she's pretty sure the lock is not beyond her abilities. Taking her time while others flip through journals, she eventually pops the lock. The drawer appears to be untrapped.
Inside the drawer are six rolls of paper, a feather, three wands, and a key. Casting detect magic, Thanephos determines that everything except the heavy iron key is magical. He can also cast read magic to determine that the scrolls are scrolls of identify, animate rope, comprehend languages, expeditious retreat, shield, and silent image.
Thanephos |
Thanephos examines the wands carefully, I wonder what these are. That feather is likely a feather token, although of what I haven't yet determined.
