Oh Geez - Two locations?? Crap!
Ok - This was another idea I was working for my second NPC. So I will incorporate a third NPC into this location as it does not make sense unless you have the NPC.
Elston's Landing and Elston's Body Shoppe
On the eastern banks of the Suthrun is a small peninsula that juts out into the river. Here the water shallows off and the currents ease making a very nice landing spot for small boats the size of a canoe. Of late the place has become known as Elston's landing.
Elston runs an morbid business that very few know about. He deals in unwanted dead bodies. Elston sells his bodies to whoever wants them for good or bad. If you have gold, he has bodies. He has found a way to keep the bodies from decaying and thus usually has a fine selection for what ever needs one may have (usually needs of the necromantic sort).
He has of late found a constant stream of bodies coming from the Pits. Nightly deliveries of the poor souls who did not yeild are hauled out of fighting ring by a couple of Ragan's workers. They load the bodies into a small boat and drop them off at Elston's Landing. If Elston does not meet them when they arrive, he usually leaves a sack of gold hanging from a nearby branch and they leave the bodies just out of the tidal zone.
Elston's Body Shoppe is located about 100 yards off the banks of the Elston's point. His shoppe consists of small hovel that he calls his house and a barn where he keeps the bodies. Bear traps and pits surround the barn to keep wild animals away from the dead stored within.

Tonight's the night!!!!
If I do or do not get selected (and I hope I do!) I have learned one thing in the last three of these PbP recruitment threads I have posted for...
THERE ARE A LOT OF IMAGINATIVE AND TALENTED PEOPLE OUT THERE!!!
Reading some of these posts has been a pleasure. Nice work all and I don't envy GM/Lictor Lane.
GOOD LUCK ALL!!!

Sazer |

NPC 1: Aladezar, gnome owner of Mystic Remidies & Trinkets. He runs the shop along with his wife and their friends Sazer. Al, as he's called for short, makes small charms and wards and sees to the finances of the shop.
NPC 2: Astarama, gnome healer and seer, wife of Aladezar. She mizes ointments, salves, and the occasional potion. She's a cleric of Nivi Rhombodazzle, the gnomish deity, and keeps a small shrine in back of the shop. She has also been known to have vision, on rare occasions.
Location 1: Mystic Remidies & Trinkets. Owned by Aladezar and hois wife Astarama. Located Outside Rego Cader, but close enough that fewer and fewer patrons visit each day. In order to stay in business they must make a weekly trip to the Dusk market, to hock their wares to those unfortunate souls still living in that sector. They stayed too long on their last trip and barely made it home safely. As they came within sight of their home, thbey ehard a strange otherworldy noise from the rooftops. Luckily Sazer was still their waiting for them to return and was waiting in the doorway, wuickly closing an dbolting it when they got through.
Location 2: Strange Brew, a small Tavern not far from Mystic Remidies. The owner and operator is a retired dwarven adventurer, Hoskar IronHand, and the palce is decorated in all maner of broken weapons and dented armor, each piece acco, mpanied with a harrowing tale of narrow escapes adn valient rescues. The tavern does betetr than most its size, mainly due to Hoskar's family recipe for dwarven stout and spiced potatoes.

Ok folks, thanks for all the fantastic applications. You made it really, really hard. As Galstak said, there are a lot of creative people out there. Don't give up. If you're not in one yet, I'm confident you all will be soon.
In the end, I'm going with two teams. Working titles are:
You Certainly Can't Hide
- Jo
- Ilthad Thrune
- Satinal Ulvauno
- Alrra Dayne
- Ariena Balialos
Mad (Half) Men
- Coran Ven den Heuvel
- Caravas Simjen
- Antal Syiel
- Franco Nymmis
- Sazer
Feel free to offer suggested names for your team/thread. I should be able to get the IC/OOC threads up in the morning. Also, I will be asking for an email to invite you to a Google Site for AP materials so be prepared for that in the OOC thread.

![]() |

hey, I can hide. I think all of us can just hide behind Jo actually. :)
Since 3 of the 5 came from noble houses and the others are of hag and uncertain parentage. What about "Scions of Hell" or something like that? Actually, I'm not sure what Erebus is, but we could be the "Bastards of Westcrown", as well.

I'm Jo |

Thanks for the opportunity GM!
Ilthad, Satinal, Alrra, Atiena - Jo needs a trusted companion. Someone he goes to after his father is killed and he has no one to turn to. He needs to earn money and knows that but does not know how to go about it in a socialy acceptable way.
Any of you seem like you fit the bill. Any takers want a hulking brute protector and someone to mentor?

Moondark is fine with me. If you have second thoughts though feel free to change. I'll make sure I correct how I'm addressing you.
@Ilthad: Sorry, I changed it before I saw your note. You guys will get another naming opportunity in this AP though.
@Antal: I would love to see what you come up with for a campaign journal.

Hello folks, due to a couple characters that have had to drop out for various reasons, we are seeking to recruit 1-2 new characters for the Council of Thieves AP.
Note that this is not a race. You have until Noon CT (GMT+6) on Friday, December 2 to post your character. There are no bonus points for posting it early, although I will try to offer advice if you do.
We're still at a relatively early time to join the campaign as we have only completed the first major jaunt through Westcrown's sewers and have named the group of concerned citizens seeking to improve the city - The Children of Westcrown.
Your fellow adventurers are:
Jo a hulking magic-hating barbarian (Barbarian (Brutal Pugilist) 2) that used to fight in The Pits, a semi-legal fighting arena in the northern ruins of the city.
Moondark the roguish daughter of a Westcrown noble who has been living as a street urchin (Rogue (Spy) 2) after nearly being turned over to an Asmodean convent.
Coran an escaped halfling house slave (Oracle (Metal) 2)
Creation Guidelines
Profile
I would like to see the following items in your character: Stat Block, Background, Appearance, Personality, Desired Role. This and your locations/NPCs (see below) will be key to my evaluation and the better job you do of investing your character into Westcrown, the better. As this campaign has been running for some time, Jo, Moondark and Coran will also also have considerable input into the decision.
References
Pretty much anything by Paizo is acceptable, but the overall rule of thumb is make sure it fits into Westcrown. I will consider 3PP.
Please read the Council of Thieves Players Guide before creating your character
You may also read the section on Westcrown in the back of The Bastards of Erebus. There are minor spoilers in there, but I will accept that in trade for the richer character that will result. You can also read up on Golariopedia
Level
2nd level, please use wealth guidelines in CRB.
Class
CRB, APG, UM and UC are all acceptable. You're going to have to work at making the Gunslinger, Ninja, and Samurai fit. The favored class options from the Core Rulebook and APG will be allowed. Words of Power will not be used. Keep in mind the characters that are already in.
Ability Scores
20 point buy - if you dump a stat, role play it
Hit Points
Hit points will be max for first level and average + 1 for every level thereafter.
Alignment
You must be good or neutral. I have a preference for good.
Race
You may be any of the standard races and may use any of the options offered in the APG. You may also be one of the following non-standard races: Tieflings (options in The Bastards of Erebus are acceptable), Changelings (using the rules found in the Haunting of Harrowstone). I will consider Aasimars, Fetchlings, Suli, and Tengu, but expect a good story that is well-integrated into Westcrown. I will not allow the Advanced Race Guide playtest.
Traits
You must have two traits. One must be a campaign trait from the players guide (see below). I will accept Paizo traits that are reskinned to fit into Westcrown. 3PP must be approved.
Westcrown
Your character must be from Westcrown. If they are not a native, I expect a good reason for them to be here and have put down roots.
Required Background
You have recently (within last 6 months) joined an organization of concerned citizens trying to create positive change in Westcrown while avoiding becoming labeled as rebels
This AP is about bringing Westcrown to life. I expect you to contribute to that experience. So, I’m requesting that you each create two locations and two NPCs in Westcrown that your character has ties to at the start of the campaign. The NPCs do not need to be statted out. Please post these to me with spoilers. This becomes part of a Westcrown Guide that I have built for all characters.
Player Guidelines
- There is desire in our group to pick up the pace, at least a little. Would prefer daily posting, but please plan on a minimum of 5 posts a week. In combat, post daily or you will be GMPCed.
- If you need to take brief breaks for heavy work or vacations, let me know. It is relatively easy in Council of Thieves to work players in and out at certain points of the campaign. But, please try to work with me instead of disappearing

Roman Fomin |

Posting interest as an Inquisitor. Desired role - Archer/Utility.
This character was conceived for a CoT run on another forum. I am open to any changes needed to fit your vision of the campaign.
Stats, Appearance, Personality, Background are in the profile.
Dagran Makedon - An elderly librarian, retired adventurer, who has a cache of illegal books on monsters, survival and combat techniques. Roman learned his skills from these books. It was he who introduced Roman to the Children of Westcrown, through some secret connections of his.
Ruhnama Kazbek - a female Tiefling, who was rescued by Roman from the shadow beasts. As a favor, Roman asked her to teach him Abyssal language. They used to meet almost every day, until Roman started to notice signs of affection from her. Afraid of his own feelings towards her, he ceased these meetings.
Westcrown Library of Foreign Literature - a tiny library, barely tolerated by the authotities to serve as an example of free thinking allowed in Westcrown. Dagran works here under.
Dancing Shadow Inn - a bar near Roman's house, where he used to come after surviving another night outside. The bartender here suspects Roman leads an illegal double life, but he doesn't like the city laws himself, so would not voluntarily give him up to the authorities. His evidence would be heavily implicating Roman under harsh Westcrown law.

Raging Bull |

Ok, I read by on Cheliax history and Westcrown. I have a sketch for a character, I will prepare the details and the NPC's you requested tomorrow. If there is anything in the story you don't like tough, do say so, I might come up with something different.
Egder is a halforc bard coming from the southern lands of Katapesh. He is a blade dancer and actor, but always performs masked as not to scare the spectators.
An injury made his life difficult. When he pierced his leg while dancing ten years ago, he ran out of money rather quickly and he had to sell himself in slavery to avoid death from starvation. He was sold to a Chelian Noble and transported to Westcrown to entertain him, his family and their guests. During the years tough, he managed to collect some money. Six months ago he bought himself free, but he didn't find the taste of freedom as good as he had imagined. So when a group of concerned citizens approached him with tales of a free societey, he gratefully accepted.

Extending recruitment until Monday
Raging Bull - your concept is fine. It would also work with you getting broken out of the estate.
Dreaming - I've played with you before as Chavakala. You are welcome to take a little more time to submit.
Joy - That is definitely a workable concept and would fit a need for the group. If you have time to complete the concept, please go ahead.
Waltz - As long as you separate player knowledge from character knowledge, I'm fine. Party feels like they could use front-line help and an arcane caster. Synthesist summoner may really trouble Jo. We'll use the official FAQ. I'm ok with whip-bound magus.

Basil Kettering |

I would like to present Basil Kettering, a CG Half-Orc Barbarian (Armored Hulk) 2 for consideration.
Full statistics are available on his profile :-)
Basil's early years were harsh. He learned that he was considered to be less than human by many, because of his Orcish heritage, and that he could rely on no-one except himself. As he got older, he discovered that he could dish-out the punishment as well as he could receive it; deep within in was a rage and fury worthy of a true Orc, and when he let it out, it was difficult to control him. Things came to a head when, after being provoked by one of the other orphans, he nearly killed the boy. Filled with shame, Basil fled the only home he had ever known, and disappeared onto the streets.
Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it...), Basil turned out to have a knack for survival, and turned into an embittered street monster, too wary to readily accept aid from others, and perfectly capable of looking after himself, when necessary.
Eventually, he came to the attention of a recruiter for one of the clandestine floating pit-fighting leagues; although reluctant to join at first, it seemed like it had better prospects than a life on the streets (which, from personal experience, he knew was quite dangerous)... He now lives from one fight to the next, bouts of rage and pain interspersed with periods of terrible ennui; he knows that there should be more to life, and dreams of escape, but just does not know what he should do to make it a reality. The only occasional relief he gets from this, is when he sneaks away in disguise, and watches a play at one of the more 'rough and tumble' playhouses - for a few hours, he is able to lose himself, and dream about what could have been...
Gian-Luigi 'Hellstalker' Prominos
Gian-Luigi is a giant bear of a Tiefling, whom Basil has encountered numerous times in the ring, and with whom he has something of a love-hate relationship. Over time, they have grown to respect one another's battle prowess, but their lives outside the ring could not be more different - whilst Basil mourns what could have been, Gian-Luigi revels in his Fiendish heritage, and spends his life drinking and wenching.
Sergeant Mathos
Sergeant Mathos is a drill instructor for the Dottari with whom Basil had more than a few run-ins with in his childhood. However, over the years, Mathos has come to grudgingly respect the way the 'Half-Orc wretch' has found a vaguely useful (and moderately legal) way to spend his existence. Whilst not exactly friends, they do meet-up every so often and share a few beers, whilst Mathos 'checks-up' on how Basil is doing...
The Second Flute
A small theater in a rather run-down section of town, The Second Flute nonetheless manages to put on a string of fairly respectable shows, year round; they need to, as the audience has been known to throw substantially more dangerous things than rotten food when they do not like a performance. Basil attends performances when he can, and occasionally moon-lights as a bouncer, so that he can be closer to the actors who provide a spot of calm in his turbulent life.
The Quarrelsome Imp
Not really a specific location, per se, The Quarrelsome Imp is a floating pit-fighting league which does a regular circuit of the less salubrious districts of Westcrown, and for which Basil is a star attraction.
Let me know if you would like any further information :-)

![]() |

My error Roman. You've provided plenty of detail. Thank you. You will probably need to take the library to be entirely clandestine if you are selected. The Order of the Rack is just a bit anti-literature and I think this is just the sort of place they would like to put to the torch.
Basil - I'm a little concerned you have a lot of overlap with one of our existing PCs - Jo - also a barbarian pit fighter. Great background and NPCs. It may still work, but wanted to let you know in case you want to look at Jo's info.

Egder |

Submitting Egder for a Skirmish/Utility role. I think he'll do fine giving melee support, while covering other roles when needed. I think I put up all details in his profile so I refer to that. Should anything be missing, do ask.
Didn't find a good avatar, might change.
GM, would you allow me to take the Legacy of Sand trait? I believe it would be a plus to Egder's story, but it's up to you.
Jontas Khollarix is a member of House Khollarix. He resides in the city centre very close to the Golden Palace. He loves performance and regularly imports artistic slaves to Westcrown. He has slave trade contacts in various regions in the Inner Sea, tough mainly in Katapesh. He is widely known for eccentric parties and pays lip-service to the Church of Asmodeus, tough keeps his true deity a well-kept secret.
Casper Thareman is a weaponsmith and owner of the Steelhouse. He excels in creating swords and axes, but due to his dedication and the hard work he puts in, he is not the fastest. He is quickly irritated by impatient customers and would prefer someone else taking over the shop so he can dedicate to the creation of weapons. For this job, he hired Egder. Much of his swords find their way to the Dottari, but unmarked versions start to appear in the ranks of the freedom fighters.
The Steelhouse is a smithery in the north of the city. It is specialized in swords and axes, tough all weapons are available. Sometimes a second-hand armor appears in the store, mainly because Casper being too lazy to mold the iron for something new.
The Golden Palace is a theatre in the centre of the city. Regular performances take place in front of much of the Westcrown nobility, but lately the Asmodean Church is looking for excuses to shut the doors.

Egder |

Thank you. Ties should be allright. I deepened the story a bit. I'm having a little trouble* updating his profile so I'll post in here a good description as well.
*: I would swear I wrote out everything from his profile earlier today, when I wrote that post. Looking at it now, it seems nothing saved. Lucky I did on a .txt file...
Egder:
Egder is a halforc bard coming from the southern lands of Katapesh. He is a blade dancer and does a good job at entertaining his crowd with oratory, but always performs masked as not to scare the spectators.
Abandoned as a child, he was raised in a temple of Sarenrae. He was gratefull for the kind atmosphere and started to worship the Dawnflower. He also liked the swordplay in the temple, but prefered a bigger sword as the scimitars the priests were practising with. He joined the exercises with a falchion, a gift of one of the other halforcs residing in the temple. Because of his difficulties adapting the scimitar moves to those of the falchion, he was reprimanded often not to "dance" but to fight. Yet he started to take a liking to the strange movements and continued them. This got him out of the temple, but by the time he was out he managed to put up a show and managed to survive from the income of his masked performances.
An injury made his life difficult. When he accidently cut his leg while dancing ten years ago, he ran out of money rather quickly and he had to sell himself in slavery to avoid death from starvation. He sold himself to a Chelian Noble for ten years and was transported to Westcrown to entertain him, his family and their guests. Once his wound healed, he did a fine job at that. He impressed his master, Jontas Khollarix* and his family in such a way that they invited other noble family's to see him. Once, he was even allowed a performance in the Golden Palace*. This way, he was introduced to various Westcrown nobles. Jontas insisted he would remain masked tough, to put up the appearance he was human. He also had to make sure he hid his worship of Sarenrae, as he found her religion to be unaccepted in House Khollarix.
His ten years of slavery ended six months ago, but he didn't find the taste of freedom as good as he had imagined. He didn't dare to perform his blade dancing on the streets out of fear for Asmodeus' clergy, who would be able to recognise the similarity of his dance with the swordstyle of Sarenrae clerics. He also could not enjoy favours of the nobles he danced for since none would recognise him as a halforc. So he was on the lookout for a job when he met a local smith.
Casper Thareman*, a weaponsmith took Egder as an assistant, in exchange for a place to stay and a low wage. Egder agreed with it and took a room just above the Steelhouse*. While doing his job to the best of his capacities, he started looking for ways to change the current situation. He didn't consider leaving, as the city became a home after ten years and took more kind to halforcs as in his homeland. Casper learned of this, and brought him in touch with a group of citizens. When they made clear their intentions, Egder joined their fight for a free society.
*=see NPC and location description
Egder has a dark grey skin, and the typical muscular build of a halforc. He has pale eyes, almost white, and small but still visible tusks. He is often wearing a scarf that he uses to hide his face when performing. When not wearing it, his long black hair and moustache are visible.
Egder prefers to keep to himself in Westcrown, but is opening up in the company of people he trusts. He rarely speaks to outsiders, but when he does he shows fine oratory skills that surprise most. It is difficult to anger him, but when one does he tries to intimidate the other in going no further. If his enemy crosses that line, his orc heritage takes the upper hand and he will show himself as a furious combatant.

Roman Fomin |

The heretic archetype might be a bit of a misnomer - the idea was that Roman used to have the Asmodeus faith as most of the Westcrown citizens when he was still a commoner. Once he decided to take on his personal crusade, he devoted himself to Gorum to rely upon him in battle. Gorum was picked because it's a CN deity.
I am now thinking that maybe an Infiltrator archetype with an Anger inquisition could reflect this better mechanically - Roman hates the laws of Asmodeus but has to pretend to abide by them. The library could then be changed to a half-orc who instructed him in the ways of Gorum.

Faelar Braegen |

Right, here is what I have so far. Still need to work out a background, location and people yet though.
Stats, STR : 16, DEX : 12, CON : 14, INT : 10, WIS : 10, CHA : 14
Skills : Intimidate (+9), Knowledge Arcana (+5)
Feats : Skill Focus (Knowledge Planes), Eschew MAterials, Iron Hide
Traits, Sacred Tattoo (Racial switch), Veteran of Battle (Religion), Westcrown Firebrand (Campaign)
Saves, FORT : 5, REF : 2, WILL : 3
Alignment : Chaotic Good, Diety : Undecided
Gear : Battle Axe, Breastplate, Masterwork Backpack, Waterskin
0 Level Spells : Touch of Fatigue, Acid Splash, Flare, Detect Magic
1st Level Spells : Enlarge Person, Touch of Gracelessness
Still flicking between Half-Orc and Half Elf. If Half-Orc, then will do the 1 level of Fighter. If Half-Elf, then will do 2 levels of Sorceror and will take Light Armour Proficiency.
Which sounds better for the group? I can whip up a backstory and finalise the character in about an hour.

![]() |

@Faelar: I think either would work. We have two humans and a halfling. A couple of the characters we've lost were further out there - tiefling and changeling. Westcrown itself is heavily human with halfling slaves and a larger than typical tiefling population. The tieflings are the race that sees the most discrimination. Half-orcs and elves/half-elves are going to be less common, but not unknown.
